Optimistic October

Hi, here's the new thread. Its pouring with rain , the days are getting shorter, so I thought we needed some optimism.

8st 12 this morning, aiming for a bit of a loss this month, I would be pleased with a pound. I've got my Dad coming down for two weeks tomorrow so going to be quite busy, which generally helps.

9st4.25 again here this morning. Absolutely no craving or effort needed yet, which really is absolutely mad considering where I was.. However I know it will come for me but I hope the easy days help me when the hard days come. It really does feel like being free now so I need to keep a cool head and also, not drop cals in regular meals. It will be a much slower road but a pound a week and a no junk normality would be amazing. I'm going to weigh daily again tomorrow and Fri and aim for weekly then in an effort to play the long game.

Aims: 10k steps, tho it's wet and rotten, skin, teeth, decent bedtime and no junk. Have a good day all.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 27/10/2021 08:40

Oh I nearly lost the run of myself there - 2L water of course part of the key to life! Grin Octopus I hope you are doing OK.

Octopus37 · 27/10/2021 09:06

Thanks @HeyGirlHeyBoy, I'm getting there. Slow progress to be honest and I'm worrying about how I'm going to cope with getting back to normalish next week. Still feel pretty weak tbh, really annoyed at having to pace myself. 8st8.5 this morning, long long time since I've weighed that. Managed to eat a pop tart for breakfast

LadyDanburysHat · 27/10/2021 09:51

Hi all, I'm feeling really pre menstrual so struggling with food. Currently 11st 12, but hoping there is actually some water retention and it will go down.

Interestingly I've been stuck around this weight for a while. And this is the weight the mirena coil made me gain. The weight I've already lost was lockdown weight.

@LBB2020 I really want to make a pasta sauce with philadelphia now. THere was a lovely recipe they used to advertise on TV that was made with the garlic and herb one. I don't know is they do a light version of that though.

TheHoneyBadger · 27/10/2021 16:52

Make sure you're drinking lots of water Octopus! Hope you start to feel better soon and manage to eat something more substantial.

I haven't weighed today. Must remember to tomorrow.

I had spaghetti this week and just used a nob of butter and a load of garlic and tossed the pasta through it and it was delicious. No idea how many calories in what I'm calling a 'nob' of butter.

Had cottage pie and veg last night which was very nice and wintery. Haven't eaten yet today and think I'll try and string out being calorie free a bit longer. Just water and black coffee so far as I haven't had an appetite. I should make a plan as to what I'm going to eat before hunger kicks in and I reach for crap because I'm tired.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 27/10/2021 17:22

Definitely all about the plans/being prepared isn't it? But that pasta sounds delish! I am logging now for the day ahead of dinner, only 5500 steps as it has lashed all day but am still holding out for some exercise this evening if it calms.
Greek yoghurt, blueberries and kiw, cappuccino
Chicken, cherry tomatoes and mayo on homemade soda with carrot and chickpea soup
Roast chicken and veg dinner.
Doing OK on water, will get a few more large glasses in.

Octopus37 · 27/10/2021 17:25

I'm trying to eat bits of food, but I've now lost my taste and smell. Hoping they wont be gone too long

LBB2020 · 27/10/2021 19:26

Hope you’re feeling better soon @LadyDanburysHat.
I’m sure there are recipes on the Philadelphia website.
Garlicky, buttery pasta sounds delicious @TheHoneyBadger!
Well done on another good day @HeyGirlHeyBoy Smile
From memory my smell and taste took a couple weeks to return @Octopus37. I had an ok day, meet a friend at the farm with the children for some half term Halloween fun! I did have a cake at the cafe though Blush I just can’t seem to help myself!

TheHoneyBadger · 27/10/2021 20:14

Definitely stay hydrated Octopus - remember that means sugar and salt too. Can you do a spoon of marmite or bovril in a cup of boiling water? I'm worried about you wasting away as well!

I do love that spaghetti LB - I hadn't had it in ages and forgot that something so simple is so delicious. I actually like quite simple food - will happily eat cold hard boiled eggs with a bit of salt and pepper and really enjoy them but again forget about about them for ages and then be surprised how lovely they are when I have them. Likewise I could happily just eat fish and green veg with no need for a carb.

If I wasn't so lazy/lacking in energy and had more of a liking for being in the kitchen I would probably find it easy to stay slim. The trouble is eating crap when over tired.

I did not make a plan and then ds had spicy noodles, made too much and gave me his leftovers which I ate despite not being hungry or fancying them much because I knew eating a small amount at that point would probably see me through v it getting later and me reaching for something even junkier than noodles.

Glad things are going well HeyGirl and I hope the cake was nice LB.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 27/10/2021 22:04

Well then that was a sensible choice Honeybadger, the least worst for sure and has probably stemmed a tide that could have come otherwise. I always think your foods are very healthy, prawns are a regular if I remember!

TheHoneyBadger · 28/10/2021 08:00

Yes, I think if I ever live on my own again it will be much easier to eat well because I'd just be buying what I like and just enough for the week and a bit of a food store. With ds there has to be loads of quick grab, fast calorie food in the house because he is so ravenous and active much of the time. My quick grab food would be prawns, smoked salmon, mackerel fillets, avocados, brazil nuts etc and I'd have the budget to buy enough of that sort of thing and it wouldn't all get snarfed in a day by ds.

Alcohol would still be a big weakness though.

13:1 so it's bad but not as bad as it could be given my crapness of late. Perhaps I'd have seen scarier number if I hadn't had a bit of an ad hoc fast yesterday.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/10/2021 08:39

Very true re taking others into account! Husband has baked twice since Sat Hmm

9st 3.25 this morning. Delighted. Need to just keep off junk and will be OK but not always easy of course.
Aims : skin, teeth, 2L water, bed by 10.30, no junk.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/10/2021 09:23

Sorry @LBB2020, only see your post now. Thanks for the good wishes. The sweet stuff absolutely my downfall, to the point that I'd say I'll have to up my meal cals as junk was taking up so many. I am finding it much easier having absolutely none as just a taste sets me off for more.

Octopus37 · 28/10/2021 10:27

@LadyDanburysHat hope you are feeling better. @TheHoneyBadger it sounds to me as if you make healthy choices a lot of the time. I can sympathise with having to have loads of food in for hungry boys. I've just eaten some raspberries and melon. Not very substantial I know but worked well as I cannot really taste anything. Up until now I've always been a bit cynical about the health implications of healthy/unhealthy eating. Probably because of sudden bereavements etc, thinking life's too short. Sounds daft (hope I'm not offending anyone cause I know I'm saying this in a position of health privilege), but this covid malarky has made determined to pay more attention in future.

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/10/2021 15:48

Logging for the day, I have a meeting I'm very keyed up about and know I'll just flop when home!
Strawberries, kiwi and Greek yoghurt, cappuccino, green tea
Three egg omlette with roast veg, mushrooms and cheese. Possibly too much, it was a huge feed and I'm feeling over full now. Trying so hard to make sure I'm covering my cals and not getting too hungry.
Spag bol, broccoli, no pasta for tea, as I simply don't think I could fit any in.
Water going well, zero activity again but will be back on it tomorrow.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/10/2021 16:24

I'm very glad you're in a position of health privilege if you want to call it that Octopus! I was trying to explain to ds that death and illness feels different when you are older yourself than it does when you're very young the other day after my family member died.

I've just had the one meal today in mid afternoon which was grilled bacon, scrambled egg and a toasted panini. I'm having a couple of beers though. If I get hungry later I will nuke some vegetable soup and I must drink lots of water - bit behind on that today as I was doing hte soaking and rinsing saga of a new water jug and filter.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/10/2021 16:31

Sounds like a really tasty omelette!

I braved the scales this morning and it wasn't completely awful. 4-6lbs to be back to target.

Octopus37 · 28/10/2021 17:43

@TheHoneyBadger sorry I really didn't mean any offence. You are right about death and illness feeling different the older you get. Hope your Son is ok. I'm getting my appetite back, despite the lack of taste. Have managed a Belvita biscuit snack thing, some sesame bread sticks and a piece of cheese and toast. I'm making some roast potatoes and chicken for dinner, thought I'd ordered carrots but I mustn't have done. Hope everyone has had a good day.

OP posts:
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/10/2021 18:09

I don't think anyone could take any offence octopus, totally get it and you're right. Honeybadger that meal sounds v tasty! I came back on to say I did have the pasta Grin We rarely get fresh pasta and it was served up in the bowl so I gobbled it up. Now done for the day!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 28/10/2021 18:10

Nutella 4-6 similar for me but it will melt off you quicker now as it's not longterm gain.

TheHoneyBadger · 28/10/2021 19:37

No offense taken at all Octopus! I don't think you had to apologise and see yourself as in a position of privilege - I guess we all are compared to the elderly and most of us take it for granted till something comes along to remind us of our fragility.

I've stuck happily to the one meal that really filled me up, I am drinking beer though and not counting calories. I've started drinking lower alcohol and calorie beers but they still add up no doubt. If I stay stuck that's what is going to have to go again I guess. I'm still hoping for magical weight loss I guess Hmm At this rate I'm going to end up leaving October heavier than I entered it which might wake me up.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/10/2021 21:11

Yeah I hope so.
I was so stressed busy at work today that I didn't snack one bit which is unheard of for me but gave me some nice dessert calories this evening. Still loving the pinch of nom recipes. I love pasta way too much to skip it Grin

LBB2020 · 28/10/2021 21:41

I’ve gone a bit crazy for the sweet stuff today Blush I’m hoping that next week I will sort myself out as I’ll be back to work so not out eating cakes and drinking coffee! (I have been making up for the lost time during my maternity leave when we were in lockdowns!). I might even be able to squeeze in the odd short exercise video on my lunch break as the children won’t be around!

TheHoneyBadger · 29/10/2021 08:45

Morning. 12:13.4 so going back in the right direction. Would be a bit of a miracle to end October on a loss but you never know.

Drink water! Reminding myself really

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 29/10/2021 09:20

Well done Honeybadger and always grateful for a water reminder. I do find JS recommendation of large glass before and after each meal works well for me with my 3 meals.
Delighted here with 4.75lbs down since Sat, shocking the amount of junk I was putting away.. That's my last weigh now till next week, might try go till Tues/Weds and then the weekly each Fri like way back in early 2020. Would love to get back to 9 in next few weeks. Sleep not wonderful unfortunately but a v long rest at least.
Aims: 2L water, teeth and skin, bed by 11, no junk.
Have a good day all! Enjoy your meal out nutella!
