Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I was tested for covid twice at least in hospital and was negative. Woke up feeling sick. Have stomach pain still. Just feeling fed up emotionally. A friend has really let me down and another wants to see me and I am not up to it. Seeing her would be great but I just can't manage it. I'm putting weight onSad.

Hope you feel better soon @Graphista.

Hi @Puffalicious. Where are you?

TheRealHousewife · 23/09/2021 09:44

@Graphista it’s great to read you’re feeling a teeny bit better. You’re having a rough time of it.

@SunshineCake1 in regards to the health care you can’t access… no words. NHS is truly broken.

Morning all! I had another good day yesterday, so decided to quickly hop on the scales this morning. In spite of going off the rails more than a few times this month, it looks likely I’ll finish this month by staying the same, or possibly even on a tiny loss. It’s given me a bit of a psychological boost! ☺️

My plan for today:

Overnight oats for a late breakfast/ early dinner

Pasta e fagioli

I’m sure there will be some snacks as well, but as I can’t have lunch at a normal time today (lunch time meetings 😑) my meals will be a bit erratic.

For exercise, I’m planning a long session on the cross trainer and may be a walk if the sunny weather continues.

Sorry to hear things are still so tough @Graphista and @SunshineCake1 😔

Youdoyoutoday · 23/09/2021 11:32

Morning all,

14.8 today.

Currently on the sofa in the sunny spot thawing out from swimming, really enjoyed it though!

Thanks for the links @TheRealHousewife, interesting reading.

I debate over breakfast. I know its an important meal but sometimes, I don't feel hungry enough to eat in the morning at 8/9 so just have a coffee. I also find that when I do eat breakfast, I'm more hungry a couple of hours later, 11/12, so end up snacking because it's not quite lunch time, 1pm, yet.

Does anyone else find this?

Right now, I could eat something but I just think I may as well wait til 1pm to have lunch with DP, so I'll crack on with housework to keep myself busy but I never really know if I'm doing myself wrong.

SunshineCake1 · 23/09/2021 12:18

If I eat breakfast I definitely struggle whereas pre glandular fever I could easily wait until lunch or even much later.

buzzofthebumblebee · 23/09/2021 12:18

I debate over breakfast too You. If I eat breakfast, I feel much hungrier. So if I can resist until lunchtime, I do. Maybe skipping breakfast a couple of times in the week justifies a slice of that cake, sprinkles and all? As much as I love cake, and still craving, I'd rather save my calories for GnT or prosecco at the weekend ; )

You can still make a loss this month Crazzzy.

I like researching too TheRealHousewife. I also find myself looking at before and after success photos on MFP.

Hope you continue to see small improvements Graphista.

Crazzzycat · 23/09/2021 13:08

I also feel much hungrier if I eat breakfast @Youdoyoutoday. But apparently there’s some research which suggests that grouping the food we eat into 3 meals, rather than 2 meals and snacks is more effective. That’s one of the reasons I’m experimenting with breakfast. I can’t say I’ve noticed a positive impact on the rate of loss yet!

Youdoyoutoday · 23/09/2021 13:58

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

@Crazzzycat maybe I should have a week with breakfast and see what happens.

LosetoHike · 24/09/2021 11:00

@Youdoyoutoday and @Crazzzycat I’ve also cut out breakfast during the week. I dislike most breakfast foods so I was just forcing myself to eat it because that was what you’re ‘supposed’ to do if you want to eat healthily. What I’ve found works for me is no breakfast Monday-Friday and then Saturday and Sunday I’ll have eggs or porridge if I’m hiking. I think the calories I’m saving is making a big difference overall. For mornings where I’m starving I have a package of porridge I can have in work at tea break instead of the dreaded biscuits!

Down to 82.6kg this morning! Which is a loss of 1.3kg from Tuesday weigh in 🤯 I started the month at 84.5kg, doing really well Monday-Friday and then have had a really busy social life at weekends which has been very difficult to manage. Im going visiting my parents this weekend so I imagine the number will be around 84kgish again on Monday 😩 Really hoping to see 82.5kg next week so that I’ll have lost 2kg this month. Thankfully October is going to be a quieter month with less socialising so I’m hopeful I can really get serious with the weight loss!

Crazzzycat · 24/09/2021 11:34

That’s a big loss in a single week @LosetoHike! I can imagine dieting being much more difficult when you have a busy social life for a few weeks.

I had another reasonably good day yesterday. I say reasonable because I ended up having way too few calories in my normal meals and ended up making up the deficit by eating chocolate. It’s not what I want to do, but I’d run out of healthy snacks so the chocolate became more and more appealing. I still came in under my calorie limit though, so it’s all good 😁

My plan for today is:

Overnight oats with berries and nectarine
Spicy bean wrap
Pasta e fagioli

For exercise, I’m planning some time on the exercise bike and may be a short walk.

Youdoyoutoday · 25/09/2021 12:20

Morning all, Happy Saturday!

Down to 14.6 this morning surprisingly as I may have had a few too many biscuits yesterday but hey ho!

Was meant to go swimming this morning but after yet another sleepless night with my DD, I just couldn't be bothered to get up. Now I feel guilty that I didn't go swimming but we are off for a nice long walk to the park later instead.

What happened to the lovely sunny weather, its been beautiful the last few days so was hoping to pop down to the coast today for the last bit of summer but its all a bit miserable today.

TheRealHousewife · 25/09/2021 18:32

Hi Everyone

@Crazzzycat 👍👏. Staying the same after going off the rails is a win!

You’re welcome @Youdoyoutoday 😊

@buzzofthebumblebee I’m too cynical to take too much notice of online before and after photos 😬. Too many variables, lighting, posture, angle of camera, clothes etc. Although I do occasionally buy Slimming World Magazine for the stories, which include before & after shots. Some recipes are ok too.

Fingers crossed for you @LosetoHike 🤞

I’m ill 😭😭 had to come home early from work yesterday because I was so cold and shivery ended up going back to bed for the rest of the day. Called in sick this morning.

It’s not Covid I think it’s a bug which is coinciding with my menopause symptoms kicking in. I’m having hot flushes every evening night sweats every night then this for the rest of the day.

Got a phone appointment for 4/10 to discuss next steps so only a week and a marathon to get through 😊

Graphista · 25/09/2021 19:58

Well done to all managing to stay on course.

Was hoping to have a better day and get some wee things done today...COVID had other plans!

Today it's gastro nonsense

I've no idea how to treat/manage it nothing seems to help.

@swampytiggaa sorry you're sick I'm afraid it sounds like it could be COVID so you may need to get a test. I started with a sore throat fever and headache, cough didn't kick in for a few days, if you recall I was sure it was tonsillitis at first

Hope you're very well again soon Thanks

swampytiggaa · 25/09/2021 20:02

I did a LFT which came up negative but I’ll see how it goes 😊 a few people have had this and all tested negative. I think it’s this year’s version of the back to school cold

Graphista · 25/09/2021 20:13

Hopefully nothing serious and you'll be back on your feet soon then

fallfallfall · 26/09/2021 00:59

nose to the grindstone here.
early in the month i saw 145 one morning not seen it since...
so i'm really staying away from too many "treat" foods (nut, dried fruit, even low sugar chocolate).
being careful with my portion size and cooking options.
B: boiled egg and 1 piece of toast, cherry tomatoes for garnish
L: leek and broccoli soup from the online fast 800 with a peach
S: www.styleatacertainage.com/cocktails/stuffed-acorn-squash-and-apple-cider-cocktail/?cn-reloaded=1 stuffed acorn squash and roasted beets for color.
squash from the garden ;)

fallfallfall · 26/09/2021 01:00

i'm sorry to hear about all the ongoing symptoms of flu like stuff :(
i hope all of you feel better and get better quickly.

TheRealHousewife · 26/09/2021 10:38

Good Morning All

@fallfallfall when I dropped the nuts I started losing again, albeit in tiny increments (nuts always counted in cc but clearly made a difference to say having the same cals in other foods). Your menu sounds very tasty 😋

@Graphista sorry to read you’re still ill with Covid. Fingers crossed you are soon through it all.

@swampytiggaa oh no, how frustrating for you. There are other viruses doing the rounds at the moment. I was out and about mixing with friends last week and this week I have the ‘sniffles’. Here’s hoping you soon recover.

Emotional day yesterday - dropped DD to Uni. I was all set for drowning sorrows in takeaway fish n chips and bottle of wine but settled for oven breaded chicken & only a few chips, homemade coleslaw (so v little mayo), and wine wasn't that nice so just had 1glass. Even that one has given me a v v bad headache this morning, which just goes to show I am much better off without it! Generally I'm doing OK with food. Down another 1/2lb from wednesday weigh in, so must be doing something OK. Just need to keep it up. And not have too many nuts !! Happy sunday all, and enjoy your roast chicken dinner @TheRealHousewife. sounds delicious.

TheRealHousewife · 26/09/2021 20:39

@buzzofthebumblebee empty nest? Hopefully our dd will touch base often 😊. Well done on your loss! Every bit helps. I did enjoy it, If I say it myself the Chicken Roast was delicious 😋

I agree with the no alcohol as I'm a tad hungover this morning. Went out for dinner last night and had 3 glasses of wine and 2 g&t.
It's not the worst hangover I've ever had but after 3 weeks of no alcohol, I'm seriously considering just giving it up all together. It literally is just poison!

1lb on this morning, hardly a surprise, but I'm currently sat on the sofa watching the rain wondering if I should go swimming or not.... I already soaked from the school run so putting my soggy wet trainers back on is not very appealing. I'm definitely a summer kinda person!

TheRealHousewife · 27/09/2021 10:04

@Youdoyoutoday tbh as I have got older alcohol doesn’t agree with me. My body really does treat it like poison. I don’t miss really. I miss the social aspect and the ritual of popping a cork, the glug glug of a pour etc. You’ll soon lose the liquid gain 😬

Rain here too ☔️ The garden is very happy. 🌱
