Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

I know I don't "know" you like others on this thread @SunshineCake, but really feel for you at the moment. So much going on, and that is without being knocked sideways by glandular fever. I know I would be heartbroken to not be able to take my DD to Uni. So be kind to yourself, and get yourself better, and you will visit her soon. In the mean time, rest, rest and more rest. Also sending kind thoughts your way.

buzzofthebumblebee · 18/09/2021 13:35

And how are you today @Graphista ? Hope you aren't feeling as lousy. Sending you warm wishes to get better soon too.

buzzofthebumblebee · 18/09/2021 14:00

I haven't been on the scales since wednesday. Not sure whether that is a good or bad thing?!! I guess all will be revealed next weds !! I've been making good food choices at least I think I have, plus no snacking & no sugar, and drastically reduced carbs. But dinner out last night and birthday brunch with a friend this morning I hope I haven't undone all my good work. Work too busy for proper exercise (other than dog walk) but will get out for a run tomorrow morning.

Have a lovely weekend everyone

fallfallfall · 18/09/2021 15:14

@SunshineCake, I wish there was something I could say or do to help. I’ve had mono, had kids leave for uni, and have a dh who can be really really challenging, but I’m at a loss as to how to be helpful. Keep reaching out, I’m here and certainly don’t mind you expressing yourself.

Graphista · 18/09/2021 16:42

Really really lousy still. Stuff tastes weird or gross so I'm hardly eating.

The only things that taste remotely ok are plain water, plain bread, bland non juicy veggies, instant mash with no flavouring added, satsumas, bananas...

Weighed out of curiosity and that's one plus! 12 stone 10.5lbs I've lost 5.5lbs since last Sunday

Tuirseach · 18/09/2021 17:17

Hi, thank you for the warm welcome! 'm sorry you've not being well @ sunshinecake especially with your daughter leaving home & that you have covid graphista!! So I'm aiming for 2lbs a week, 2lbs doesn't sound much but I'm feeling pretty daunted! For my first week ( I think I'll do Sunday to sunday) I'm starting at 13'12 and hope to be 13'10 by next sunday, for this week I'm going to do 16:8 ( I actually always feel better when I fast & then I just go back to bad habits!) And during the 8 hoursa small lunch , v. small snack and a regular dinner and try and stay away from the sweet stuff, Chocolate is my vice!! Ive also started c25k, Looking forward to sitting down properly some evening and reading through the thread fully once I have more than 5 minutes to myself!!

SunshineCake · 18/09/2021 18:12

While waiting for dh to get back I thought I would ring my Nana. Then remembered she died in 2005. Just feel hopeless. I can't find much out about GF, I have a migraine now but feel okay except everything is tiring me out Confused. No energy to post much or even read my book. I have loads to read and thought would be the nice bit of being in bed but I just can't.

Well done on your loss @Graphista but rubbish way of doing it.

I think 2lb a week is loads @Tuirseach. good luck and thank you.

Youdoyoutoday · 18/09/2021 19:14

@Graphista don't be fooled though, weight loss through illness doesn't stay off. Hope you feel better soon

swampytiggaa · 18/09/2021 20:09

Currently drinking a large glass of my birthday gin (thanks son) as I don’t have work tomorrow. I do however have a 10k race in the morning 😱 so I’ll have another gin before bed 😂😂😂

I’m driving so my friend is paying me with cake 👍 really looking forward to it.

Well done everyone who has lost weight or maintained and welcome to the newbies!

I’ve really milked my birthday celebrations 😂😂 2 weeks so far and I’m at my goal weight so I’m happy! Upping my water again tho as that has slipped recently.

Keep resting @SunshineCake and get well very soon @Graphista 💞💞

Graphista · 18/09/2021 23:50

Yea I know I'll probably pile it all back on when I recover but I'll admit I feel quite scared at how ill I'm feeling but equally I don't wanna go into hospital if I can avoid it

I just want to feel a teeny bit better.

I'm so sore all over even breathing hurts, nausea, headache, sore throat, violent cough...

Just really really sucks!!

Cathy31 · 19/09/2021 07:05

Sorry to hear about how hard things are atm @SunshineCake @Graphista wishing you both speedy recoveries!

I skipped weighing myself. Been off colour all week and back to bad habits. Didn't even go to yoga as I was feeling so ill. But I'm so much better. Hoping to have a good week and see the scales at least maintain 49.3, maybe even tip below 49 for the first time since I got pregnant with my first, four years ago!

SunshineCake · 19/09/2021 07:22

You might not @Graphista. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you @Cathy31

I couldn't speak last night and still can't. Sats are 80 something to 94. Heart rate all over shop. Temp okay. Feel off. Feel sick. Ache in torso. Dh asking what I want to do. Not being very gentle.

fallfallfall · 19/09/2021 08:14

Low O2 sats is not something I’d associate with mono. Or torso discomfort. Just the overwhelming tiredness @SunshineCake.

Youdoyoutoday · 19/09/2021 09:37

Morning all,

Maintained today which is great, the 2lbs I lost has stayed off so I'm really pleased with that.

CW 14.8
SW 16.10
Total loss since January 32lbs

It may not be the biggest loss across 9 months, but I just really relieved I've kept it off!

Happy Sunday x

fallfallfall · 19/09/2021 14:25

I’m looking forward to weighing in, it’s been a difficult week with weigh gain (as per the scales) 5 days in a row. And there’s no way I’ve eaten 4lbs of extra food! I’ve switched up my exercise and finished the Mongolian beef which is made with 3/4 cup of soy sauce.

swampytiggaa · 19/09/2021 16:32

10k done. Lots of cake eaten. Birthday celebrations officially ended now for this year.

swampytiggaa · 19/09/2021 16:34

Hope @Graphista and @SunshineCake are feeling a bit better today 💞 Sunshine I’m worried about the symptoms you’ve posted is it possible for you to speak to a doctor? It sounds like there is an issue as well as GF to me (not a medic obviously)

fallfallfall · 19/09/2021 16:50

well done @swampytiggaa!
what does your schedule look like for the week ahead? you sound super active.

swampytiggaa · 19/09/2021 16:57

@fallfallfall

well done *@swampytiggaa*! what does your schedule look like for the week ahead? you sound super active.
😊 I have a club run Monday and Wednesday probably a run with a friend on Tuesday morning and I would like to get a run in on Friday as well. Thursday is a long walk with the husband and Sunday I’m hoping to get a speedier 10k in if I can coordinate with a friend.

Got the virtual London marathon in 2 weeks but we’re walking that 😊

SunshineCake · 19/09/2021 20:46

I have been able to speak again but I am so tired.

I am failing dismally in my sensible eating and fasting rules. Twice I've stood up to look out of the window and pretty much had to sit/fall back on to the bed. Was nodding off at 7.30pm.

fallfallfall · 19/09/2021 21:28

@SunshineCake, i remember when i had it going to bed at 3:30 pm and sleeping till the next am for school (yes i attended school with it as i certainly didn't know better nor did my mom) and only woke up briefly to eat the tapioca pudding and drink grape juice certainly for 2 weeks. other kids in school tested positive and thats how "we" found out it was mono.
as with my broken ankles, this is probably not the time to be fasting per say, you don't want this to turn into a long term chronic condition so i would suggest you eat lots of nutritious foods and even consider additional vitamins. sadly there is a link between adult mono and chronic fatigue syndrome as well as MS.

SunshineCake · 20/09/2021 06:57

Oh goodness. It took six months to stop being done for the day at lunch time after covid and another three to feel more like my old self. I'm not sure it's going to be a great outcome if I'm still in bed past this week. I'm on week five now of being in bed. Dh and I have already fallen out, him with me, reading your message makes me want to cry. I've got a headache, need a shower but feel claustrophobic in it lately, the bed needs changing, dh is stressed out. I wish I knew how I caught it though it makes no difference. The hospital want me to see the GP this week but I expect that will be a battle with the receptionist.

I appreciate you all still talking to me. Your messages cheer me up loads. Thank you.

TheRealHousewife · 20/09/2021 09:52

Good Morning All

The weekend passed so quickly. Had a great day Saturday with friends, spent yesterday recovering (not from alcohol) from all the fun 🤩.

There’s been a definite shift in climate today. Light frost 😮 but very sunny early on. Heating is on!

Anyways I’m having a re-set week as went off piste at the weekend 😬. I’ve read THIS article to remind myself of my core principles for healthy eating.

@Youdoyoutoday great progress! 👍👏

@Graphista sorry to read you’re still poorly.

@swampytiggaa sounds like you’ve had a blast! 🥳😬 lovely photo ❤️

@fallfallfall could the weight gain be oedema somewhere in your body? If I take meds I can gain up to 1/2 stone in a week. A combination of water/waste. I share your frustration.

Sad to read your updates @SunshineCake. I wished I could help in some way, change your bedding, aid in getting freshened up and take your dh in hand. Please don’t worry about how much/what you’re eating but please try and make it nutritious. Think full fat everything, protein, healthy carbs. Your mind and body need to be nourished to get well. Don’t fight it (whatever ails you) and try to clear your mind by focussing on the breath. Sending loving thoughts ❤️

Enjoy your week everyone 😊

Morning peeps!

Another 1lb off this morning, behaved yesterday with just the 1 roast potato with my roast dinner. Used a smaller plate piled it high with veg and just not as much meat and potatoes I normally would and I didn't feel like I was 'missing out'.

I have a cold at the moment but I will try to get out for my 3rd run of c25k today, don't fancy swimming outdoors today, bit too chilly for that!

@swampytiggaa still wishing for your energy levels, I'd be running 5k in no time!! Well done to you!!

@SunshineCake good luck with the GP, please talk to them about everything that's upsetting you. Talking to someone will help you FlowersFlowers

SunshineCake · 20/09/2021 10:12

😰😥thank you. My MH is scarily bad right now. I have showered, dh did the bed, we are polite but neither of us wants to talk I think.
