Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

@Youdoyoutoday tbh I always walked a lot. Then parkrun started locally so I went to that. Then I started volunteering there as well as running. Then I joined an easy going running club then accidentally signed up for a 10 mile race 😱

I run slowly with friends we encourage each other and celebrate afterwards with cake and alcohol 😊 I wouldn’t do it on my own I’m not dedicated enough.

Crazzzycat · 20/09/2021 14:01

That’s a great article you shared @TheRealHousewife. I needed that reminder after yet a week of staying the same. In all fairness, I did go off the rails again last week, so staying the same isn’t so bad 😂 I really need to remind myself of what I’m doing this for. The numbers on the scales are nowhere near as important as how I feel and I know I won’t continue to feel good if I keep going off plan, so really need to reign that in a bit. Easier said than done some days!

Well done on your loss @Youdoyoutoday! I hope you’re starting to feel a bit better by now @Graphista. It sounds like you’re going through a pretty rough time.

@SunshineCake, I’m sorry to hear things are so difficult for you. I’m sure that being this ill creates lots of additional stress for you, your DH and your relationship. I know this is such cliched advice, but I think the best thing you can do is to just take it one day, or even an hour at a time. You will come out at the other end of this and once your physical health gets a little better, your mental health and your relationship with your DH may well improve. Stay strong 💪

Youdoyoutoday · 20/09/2021 14:01

@swampytiggaa see now, I've always been a lazy arse and would just have the cake and alcohol without the running or walking! Grin

buzzofthebumblebee · 20/09/2021 22:22

Hi all, dropped off a bit last week as my MH took a bit of a dive. It’s been such an eye opener on this forum seeing how many others struggle with MH/weight and the link between the two. Did little to no exercise last week as I just wasn’t feeling up to it but managed not to binge on a ridiculous amount of food which is my usual MO when I’m feeling down.

I was sorry to see that your both still feeling so unwell @SunshineCake and @Graphista. @Graphista I definitely agree with @TheRealHousewife regarding contacting your GP. As much as we all want to lose weight half a stone so quickly isn’t good! Is your sleep very affected also? Your post was very early this morning!

As for my current weight loss saga Tuesday weigh in has be down to 83.9kg this morning so down 0.8kg this week. My weight has been fluctuating around the 84kg marks for a couple of weeks now so really want to stay in the 83kg (or lower!!) next week!

SW:87.7kg
CW:83.9kg
GW (Jan 22): 70kg

With only 15 weeks 😬 until January I’m going to have my work cut out for me to lose 13.9kg but fingers crossed I’ll get there!

SunshineCake1 · 21/09/2021 15:55

Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time @Graphista. Have you spoken to a doctor?

buzzofthebumblebee · 21/09/2021 21:53

Anyone else watched GBBO and now craving cake ?

Graphista - sorry to hear you have got even worse rather than better. Very worrying. Keep up with the fluids at least. Flowers

fallfallfall · 22/09/2021 02:06

@buzzofthebumblebee, i just finished binge watching season 4 last week and really enjoyed it. fingers crossed i can watch more episodes with no hassle (i'm in canada) and yes it's mighty tempting. prompted dh to work on his bread recipe (which was perfectly fine but maybe not up to paul hollywood standards.
hoping Sunshine and Graphista turn the corner soon and begin feeling better. yes to fluids, keep those kidneys happy :).
less then two weeks till i travel, hoping for a solid few days with no fluctuations at 145!! that means staying out of the pantry.
B: chocolate oatmeal recipe from fast 800 online program
L: cooked halloumi with asparagus (again a recipe from the fast 800)
S: beef and barley soup (of my own making ;) ) yogurt with a hell of a lot of honey BUT all done before 6pm.
good exercise, switching that up to a bit more upper body work with light hand weights.

buzzofthebumblebee · 22/09/2021 08:10

I've lost another 1lb. Feel relieved rather than happy. Think I'll be happy when I get in the 11's, which hasn't happened in a good few years.

SW: 13 2 (1 Sept)
CW: 12 9 (22 Sept)
GW 1: 11 12

Scales did flicker to 12 8.5, but I'll take 12 9. My scales are v old, but frighted to replace them incase they have been underestimating my weight all these years !!

Sun is shining here - hope everyone has a good day.

DayToNight · 22/09/2021 08:41

Morning all.

I had a weekend with the PIL, so lots of eating and drinking, but balanced with lots of walking.

SW 63.4 kg
CW 63.5 kg
GW 56 kg

Continued with week 1 of C25k and surprisingly enjoyed it. On to week 2 this week. Very humid here but the sun is shining too. Hope y’all have a good day.

Youdoyoutoday · 22/09/2021 09:35

Morning all,
Put a lb on this morning but I'm putting that down to not being able to exercise yesterday because my DD was the devil yesterday so no nap time for her and no time for myself. Oh well! Swimming tomorrow but I will try today, see how we go.

SW 16.10
CW 14.8

GW - I'm not sure, 13.10 before Xmas would be nice and then set a new goal in the new year.

Got a compliment from one of my friends this morning on the school run so that was lovely to hear.

@buzzofthebumblebee my son wants to make a cake at the weekend, he's chosen one that is nearly 500 calories per slice with the tonne of sprinkles, smarties and malteasers I know he wants to add Shock
@SunshineCake1 and @Graphista hope you ladies are OK today

SunshineCake1 · 22/09/2021 09:43

Morning all

Well done in the losses, NSV and STS.

I have put all the weight I lost in hospital back on. Considering two days ago I felt mentally dangerously unwell I'm not going to take any notice. Today's win is I have got dressed and I am sitting in the lounge with my dog at my feet. I'm hoping she'll get on the sofa with me very soon.

Crazzzycat · 22/09/2021 10:45

I’ve managed to make it to day three of this week without going off the rails again, so I’m cautiously optimistic that my healthy living mindset is back.

My plan for today is:

Overnight oats with raspberries and a teaspoon of pecan-chocolate spread

Carrot & lentil soup

Tofu stir fry. I’m still deciding whether I like tofu or not…I probably don’t, but it’s a hell of a lot more nutritious than Quorn so I’m determined to keep trying!

Exercise: a brisk walk and some quality time on the exercise bike 💪

I’m glad to hear that mentally you are feeling a little bit better @SunshineCake1. You’ve been through a lot Flowers

Sorry to hear you had a rough week too @LosetoHike. Mental health issues suck, but it’s really positive that you are becoming more aware of how that can affect your choice of, and the quantity of food, you eat. That’s the first step in breaking the cycle

SunshineCake1 · 22/09/2021 10:52

Thank you @Crazzzycat. My dog is on the sofa with me and the cat so I'm happy.

Youdoyoutoday · 22/09/2021 11:01

Just did my 3rd c25k..... wow! I can tell I haven't exercised for a week as I found that really hard but I've done it!! I might repeat the 1st week next week just to build my stamina up a bit more. See how feel But I've booked swimming for thu, sat and mon! Can't wait to get back in the pool tomorrow!

Happy Wednesday 😊

Crazzzycat · 22/09/2021 11:05

And well done on those losses @buzzofthebumblebee and @LosetoHike.

Great job on the exercise @DayToNight and even better that you actually enjoyed it!

I find setting a goal weight really difficult too @Youdoyoutoday. Before I started putting on weight, I was in the healthy BMI range but, in my opinion and that of others, far too skinny for my height and build.

I once had an odd argument with my GP who was convinced I had an eating disorder and didn’t believe me when I told him how much I weighed. He insisted I’d get on the scales and was gobsmacked when he worked out that my BMI was actually around 21. He was extremely apologetic afterwards, but clearly I don’t look particularly healthy if I go too low.

Youdoyoutoday · 22/09/2021 11:22

@Crazzzycat it confuses me to be honest. I was 13.7 for pretty much 10 years whilst in a very active job than got an office job and went up to 15. Yoyo-ed for years with diets, slimming world, pregnancies so I think now I'm at the weight I was before my 1st pregnancy 8 years ago. It kinda feel good.

But my bmi suggests I should be 11 stones, that's another 4 and half stone I would have to lose and that seems very daunting and very gruelling. Yes I want to lose weight but do I really want to be a slave to the scales to achieve 11 stone? That's a scary thought to me so I think smaller steps right now is for me!

Youdoyoutoday · 22/09/2021 11:26

Also I don't ever remember being 11 stones even in my teens.... I don't think my body could achieve it now. I'm happier now to concentrate on my awful fat belly, tone up, not wobble so much and look fab for my wedding next year!

TheRealHousewife · 22/09/2021 12:12

Good Morning All

Pleased to say I’m a lb down. Really pleased. I need to keep on it to maintain and add to that loss before month end.

@fallfallfall I’m with you! Fast800 have some tasty recipes 😋. I especially like their Beef Goulash and Spicy Cauliflower Soup.

@Youdoyoutoday @DayToNight well done on your k25! 👏. Getting started is the hard bit.

@SunshineCake1 Have you changed your tag from SunshineCake as I keep trying to post and it’s disappearing. Well done on your progress, it’s lovely to read ❤️

Menu
Meal 1 - Spicy stir fry.
Meal 2 - Hearty Chicken and mushroom soup.

I’ve been trying to write and post since 10:00am … here’s hoping this posts! Sorry if I’ve missed anyone, my post kept not posting and my fingers are tyres and the iPad is being naughty as per.

OP posts:
SunshineCake1 · 22/09/2021 15:45

I name changed and couldn't have SunshineCake back so added a 1 @TheRealHousewife.

DH just rang the doctors for me. Wouldn't give me the face to face appointment the hospital wanted me to have. I have a phone call on Monday. He said I was breathless and my SATS are low. She said ring tomorrow Hmm.

I don't feel well at all. Worse than this morning with the breathing.

Graphista · 23/09/2021 00:06

Talked to someone. I'm apparently just this side of needing to stay home and carry on doing what I been doing. Nothing they could do for me in hospital.

No vomiting today!

Breathing a teeny bit easier

Still aching all over and exhausted and coughing lots the only way I can prevent the coughing is the cough mix I'm using works for about 30-45 mins after taking then a combination of lozenges and constant sipping drinks - which is fine when awake of course but can't be done while asleep so it's hard to sort that

WOW -

12 stone 6.5lbs

So I can confirm the "COVID diet" absolutely works!!

That's 6lb loss this week and 9.25lbs this month so far. Not been eating much but what I have is quite high cal. Can't eat savoury stuff cos it tastes gross so it's been plain bread, biscuits, sweets, cakes as that's what I can manage at the moment. I may try mashed eggs tomorrow. I've also been avoiding dairy cos of the mucus nonsense which gp agreed with.

Gp also unsurprised but not overly concerned with weight loss either. Not as a general thing but it's how my body often responds to viruses anyway. I'd forgotten that and she reminded me that it's how I normally get when I have tonsillitis or sinusitis first thing that happens is weight falls off!

@LosetoHike my sleep is terrible normally! I've had terrible insomnia ever since my dd was born (she's 20) that has worsened since I had my car accident/breakdown if get 6 hours broken sleep in a 24 hour period I'm doing well!

Mh stuff definitely informs my eating habits! When I'm depressed I eat when I'm anxious I can't at all. I have ocd and agoraphobia and gad so I'm more anxious than depressed generally. What this means for me is that when I gain weight my loved ones tend to the relieved as they see it as an indication that I'm doing well mentally, when I lose weight they get worried I'm spiralling. There's also the ocd/ed link. I'm not allowed to actively try and lose weight without "permission" and support. I have had the same therapist for just over a year and she's lovely and so before I started all this I discussed it with gp and therapist. I have to follow certain guidelines so they can prevent me slipping into an Ed. These inc no cutting out food groups, no fasting, no meal replacements, no dietary aids (alli etc), no "cleanses"

You get the idea.

It's complicated because of course being overweight is bad for physical and mental health too. Particularly in my case as my physical disability is better managed if I am lighter. But I'm also on meds that cause weight gain... it's a minefield!

@SunshineCake1 push for a proper appointment that's outrageous! Also I'm thinking although you have gf doesn't mean you couldn't also get COVID and I'd hate for you not to get proper treatment
