Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife. I will post my starting weight tomorrow.

A bit about me. I’ve been losing weight since March of this year and lost 3.5 stone so far. I’ve gone for a complete lifestyle overhaul - more sleep, less stress, more exercise and less junk food. I actually think it’s the first two that make the real difference, as I’ve found that I have no desire to eat junk food when I’m well rested.

The next few months will be about consolidating good habits for me. I have set myself a goal to lose another stone by March 2022. The bigger goal will be to still be exercising and eating well by that time next year.

SunshineCake · 31/08/2021 08:29

Just a quickie as need to get up. Don't want to post weight as feeling a failure. Hopefully I'll be back properly soon.

Thank you for the new thread.

Allgoingtopot · 31/08/2021 08:52

Morning all,
I would like to join you if thats ok? I have recently lost 3 stone and I am happyish with my weight at about 11 stone. Another 7lb would be great as I would like to look and feel good at a special event in early December.
I have changed my job recently for a very outdoorsy and active lifestyle and I also walk my dog lots so I clock up between 15 and 20k steps a day.
Maintaining and losing the last bit is so hard! I feel cold all the time and eating warms me up! Dreading the winter!

swampytiggaa · 31/08/2021 09:15

You have been ill this month. Please be kind to yourself. We all love you 💕
bluewkd · 31/08/2021 09:26

Morning everyone Smile Would it be okay if I join?

Weighed in this morning at 128.7lbs and my goal weight is 110lbs by Christmas (with a mini goal of 120lbs in 5 weeks time for a friends birthday). I know 110lbs may sound quite low but I'm only 5'2"ish. Will be weighing in every Tuesday as that's my day off work.

Downloaded MFP and will be sticking to ~ 1200 calories a day. I have an active job where I'm walking around all day, and apart from that exercise will be mainly football. Will hopefully start running and maybe cycling too at some point. Aiming to drink 2 litres of water every day from now on too.

youdoyoutoday · 31/08/2021 10:04

Can I join please?

I've just finished Noom and I've lost and maintained a 2 stone weight loss so far this year. I really want to push myself to lose more as I know I can do better. I'm also getting married next year and I've already got a dress that doesn't do up.... eek!!

I also need to lose this tub of lard around my waist, I still look pregnant and its really getting me down.

I'm just waiting for the summer hols to be over so I can get back to swimming as I was going twice a week but the holidays have messed with that.

What app do you guys use for calorie counting? I've just been looking at MFP and the NHS one but not sure which one to use. I prefer to calorie count as it seems to keep me on track better.

TheRealHousewife · 31/08/2021 11:35

You’re very welcome @Crazzzycat, I’m pleased to see you’re joining us all again 😬

A warm welcome @youdoyoutoday @bluewkd & @Allgoingtopot 👍👏🙏

@SunshineCake you’ve been unwell 🤒 . You are never a failure ❤️

Rushing as have cleaning to do … chat later.

Morning everyone, hope it’s ok if I join?

I’m hoping the support on here will keep me motivated to stay on track! My weight has been like a Yo-Yo over the last decade and I really want to finally sort it before I turn 30 next year. Im fed up of not being happy with how clothes look on me and constantly thinking about my weight!

I weighed in on the 10th of August at 87.7kg after getting down to 80kg in February from 92kg in August Sad. The extra glass of wine here and far too many meals out over the summer has totally derailed the progress I had made over the previous year! Weighed in this morning at 84.9kg so a loss of 2.8kg. I’ve lots of family events, weekends away over the next couple of weeks so really need to stay on track! I’ve booked a surprise trip for my partner for his 30th in January and would love to get down to 70kg.

swampytiggaa · 31/08/2021 12:40

Hello everyone! I have actually hit my goal so I’m here for maintenance and to see what happens 😊

I’m doing 16:8 fasting not eating biscuits and drinking as much water as I can. Also trying to do a minimum of 15k steps every day 😊

I reckon this is my life now and I’m ok with that 😊 I’m 52 next week and I’m mindful that weight doesn’t come off as easily as it goes on these days 😂😂

Harnett11 · 31/08/2021 13:32

Hello Everyone
I have not been good at all this year, I just can't seem to get my head into gear. I am starting today & would like to lose 1st 3lbs before christmas. Just healthy eating and walking at least 10k steps a day. I'm hoping if I write on here instead of just reading threads it will make me more accountable! I'm just under 5ft (4ft 11 & 3/4) & weigh 9st 10lbs.

QueenMabby · 31/08/2021 13:40

Hi all. Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife. I’ll weigh in tomorrow for the start of the month but a little reminder (for myself and others!):

I spent most of my adult life around 10st ish but about 5-6 years ago was ill for a while and lost a lot of weight, ending up around 8st 10lb. Oddly even once I was better the weight didn’t really got back on and I sat between 8st 12lb and 9st 2lb for many years. Last year I started the year at 9st 1lb and gradually over lockdown the weight just crept up. I did take up exercise with weights so a pound or two may have been muscle but not a stone!
I have a goal weight of 9st 4lb which should put me comfortably back in my size 8s.

I’m joining a gym next week and intend to do some resistance training so don’t mind if I’m a bit heavier as long as I’m not a lot bigger in size if that makes sense. I’m also perimenopausal with all fun that entails!

Hyppogriff · 31/08/2021 13:57

Thanks for the new thread! Let’s kick september’s butt!

youdoyoutoday · 31/08/2021 14:31

Step count is definitely something i need to improve too but I find my motivation to exercise is literally non existent!

Does anyone have any tips on self motivation?

youdoyoutoday · 31/08/2021 14:32

Although I have enjoyed swimming!

Crazzzycat · 31/08/2021 16:12

Welcome to all the new people on this thread (and the old ones of course! 🤗)

@youdoyoutoday, not sure this helps, but exercise wise what worked for me was to stop thinking about exercise as something that is optional. You need willpower for things that are optional!

I treat exercise as my top priority each day and as long as I am not ill in bed, it’s non negotiable. This probably sounds a bit extreme, but it works for me! It stops all the “I’ll do it later/ do it tomorrow” way of thinking 🤔

Also, find something you love. Exercise doesn’t need to be gruelling. A gentle walk, or a dance around the kitchen are fine too!

For calorie counting, I use the FitBit app, but not sure if that works without a FitBit

youdoyoutoday · 31/08/2021 16:48

Thanks @Crazzzycat

I don't have a fit bit as I don't like wearing such a big bulky watch, the ones my friends have all look so bulky. I've been playing around with MFP today so I think I'll stick with that, I couldn't edit the calorie intake on the NHS one.

I like your thinking on the non negotiable aspect of exercising though!!

SunshineCake · 31/08/2021 18:11

Looking at some posts reminds me rather harshly I am well and truly in the 🐢 club!

Started at 14 stone in October 2019. May 2020 I was 12 stone nine. Today I was 11 stone 1.8lb. My best recent lowest was 10 stone 8.6 back in June Sad.

Welcome to all our newbies. Lovely to see you.

I miss our old gang too though. MrsJonesAndMe, HalfShrunkMoreToGo, etc.

@Puffalicious?! Where are you??

I'm taking all this week off running. Can't compute I can move. DS2 back to school tomorrow, blood tests on Thursday, life is just too hard atm. Will restart next week hopefully.

SunshineCake · 31/08/2021 18:14

Thank you @swampytiggaa Flowers and @TheRealHousewife Flowers. You are both very kind.

joysmoy66 · 31/08/2021 19:02

Checking in for September after disappearing for most of august BlushI suspect I'm back up to around 10 st. I've looked at myself over august and decided I look my best around 9st 10 so I'm aiming to get back to that by Christmas (I'm in no rush so happy to lose slow) I was aiming for lower than that but I start to look a bit to thin in the face any lower so that is my aimSmilewill try and post more regularly as it definitely keeps me on track even just posting my weight. Will catch up on last thread later. Hope everyone is well Smile

buzzofthebumblebee · 31/08/2021 19:36

Hello - a long time lurker I would love to join you all. I will weigh-in officially tomorrow, but it's around 13 stones. Certainly not proud of that. I need to stop making excuses, and address my over-eating. Aiming for 11 stone. So 2 stone loss. I have 6 months before I'm 50 to turn around my health and fitness (and mindset!). I think that's a realistic goal.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife for starting the thread, & @SunshineCake for your impressive loss statistics which is spurring me on this evening to not have a last indulgent dinner.

CalmConfident · 31/08/2021 19:47

Hello - joining for focus and accountability! I got fit and lost weight in lockdown 1, was feeling great, looking fab and down to 61kgs. Then I got injured and fell back into old habits. I am now almost exactly back where I started at 69kg!

Target is under 60kg…and ultimately 57kg. I want to be stronger and faster.

Plan is IF 16:8, MFP, running and Jillian Michaels. I have done it once, need to do it again Grin

Twounderfive83 · 31/08/2021 20:38

I’d like to join this please! I need to lose at least 7lb, possibly up to 10lb depending on holiday weight! It’s not loads but it’s so stubborn, I’ve been doing a half arsed attempt to lose it for ages and not stuck with anything.

Does anyone else find 1400 calories hard to stick to? I enjoy exercise so don’t find sticking to a routine difficult, it’s the diet for me every time.

TrueRefuge · 31/08/2021 21:13

Just a quick one to say thank you @TheRealHousewife for the September thread, and hello to the new joiners!

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!

I'll check in with my September weigh in tomorrow morning - feeling positive but nervous!

gammyhip · 31/08/2021 21:22

Hi, can I join in please?
I have just started my weight loss journey - I will be 50 next year and I want to be a healthy weight before then 😃 I've started going to a group on Fridays to weigb in so I will post my progress then.
I started at 12st 10lbs and last week lost 3lbs and 11 inches from my measurements

SunshineCake · 31/08/2021 21:28

Thanks @buzzofthebumblebee. Glad to have helped! I ate something even though it was fasting time but it is okay. I'm listening to what I need.

Welcome @gammyhip. 11inches in a week?
