Hello & Welcome

September has come around so quickly; children getting ready to return to school and Christmas around the corner (116 days). A time when summer is starting to fade and an autumn chill is in the air. Changing seasons is a natural transition that we echo in our day to day live’s. I for one look forward to cosy nights by the fire and mentally prepping for the coming festive season.

A part of my Christmas prep also includes dropping a few extra lbs ‘to make room’ for a little foody extravagance… and a Baileys or two 😬

Carrying on from August’s Thread this is a space for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Can I join please? I’d like to lose a stone but i need some motivation to keep on (start!) the bandwagon. My weight never used to fluctuate but about to hit 50 and the scales are going up and up. I was always a 10 at 8.5-9st and now I’m a 12 and 10st. Just need a bit of a reset with eating and drinking (and need to stress less and sleep more). I do enjoy exercising but can struggle to find the time. Diet starts tomorrow though after big curry and beer tonight! Weekends are always my downfall!

Graphista · 05/09/2021 00:48

Seconding the happy scale recommendation I'm using it too attached is my 90 day graph

Really helps to visualise it

@buzzofthebumblebee thank you. My opinion on that comes not only from my own weight loss challenges but also from an understanding of nutrition and how all the foods work together from my nurse training. we need a variety of foods

@Beanobellina welcome yea I think you need to get your head around weekends are not "special" and one needs to keep on track otherwise that's 2 days every week you're over indulging.

Meal 1 - cheese thins, veggie pate, twiglets, banana, cereal bar

Meal 2 - is gonna be soup (tinned) and toast with marmite maybe also fridge raiders (need to check the expiry date!) cherry tomatoes, grapes

Been drinking Earl grey tea no milk and sweetener and water today

SunshineCake · 05/09/2021 06:49

Welcome @Beanobellina

I've woken up with a sore throat so bad I can't swallow. It hurts to swallow anything so I'm dribbling my saliva into a flannel. Vision still blurry like yesterday morning but it did improve throughout the day so I don't know if it is an issue. I'm just so fed up. I'm hardly ever ill and now I've been out of full action for over two weeks.

Hello everyone. Can I jointoo please?

I had a baby in February and piled on the weight. I've lost a stone and a half, and have half a stone to go before I'm back to pre baby weight, but I was actually trying to lose weight before I got pregnant.

I would like to lose 2 stone. I would ideally like to lose that before the middle of November, but I realise that may be a bit ambitious because I don't have much will power. I would be happy if I lost at least a stone by then.
I hardly have anytime to exercise. 3 kids, work from home as a childminder, and dp is hardly ever here between his work and football, and I have no other reliable childcare. I feel like that's making excuses but most of the time I'm exhausted and just can't face exercise when I do get the odd hour free.

My problem is I reward myself with food. Its a really bad mindset, just can't seem to break through it.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/09/2021 09:49

I'm 13st bang on this morning, so I would like to get to 11st.

Crazzzycat · 05/09/2021 11:40

Welcome to the thread @Beanobellina and @Thatsplentyjack. There’s a lot of research out there that shows that weightloss is mainly down to diet, not exercise, so I wouldn’t worry too much about not having a lot of time to exercise.

Having said that, I have personally found exercise to be hugely beneficial. It helps me to sleep better, feel better about myself and (most of the time) motivates me to eat healthy food. It also helps to encourage fat, rather than muscle loss, which is pretty useful. So if you can find any time at all, it’s worth trying to do something active.

I’ve been having a bit of an odd week. My few days off-plan at the start of the week have turned into pretty much a whole week of not counting calories and eating many more snacks than usual 😳

I think I’m just rebelling against not having had much of a fun Summer, and am trying to make up for it somehow. I’ll have to reign it in fast though, but not today as my fridge is full of M&S picnic type foods. Has anyone tried their pickled garlic? Oh, my 😋

Thanks also to everyone who gave advice on sorting out my wardrobe! In spite of having the best intentions, I’ve only really managed to sort out my underwear drawer so far. It’s pretty much empty now, so I now have the fun challenge of working out what my new bra size is. Wish me luck 😬

TheOriginalNutty · 05/09/2021 12:15

@Graphista that is all such brilliant advice, thank you 😊

Can't do my food shop until Tuesday but that gives me time to really think about what foods/meals will work best. Increasing the veggies is def going to be a big part of it.

swampytiggaa · 05/09/2021 15:10

I did a 10 mile race this morning. Well not so much a race more of a very slow social run with my friend 😊 scorching hot tho🥵

swampytiggaa · 05/09/2021 15:11

Before and after. We got wooden medals 😱

Cathy31 · 05/09/2021 15:23

@Thatsplentyjack hi! I'm in a similar situation re exercise but as @Crazzzycat said it doesn't affect weight that much. I do want to feel healthier though, so have paid in advance (!) for 2 yoga classes a week. DH just has to plan his stuff around them.

Food today has been so much better! One snack - an apple - and two meals with lots of veg. I did have 2 sq dark choc as pudding but I'll work on my sweet tooth! I'm feeling much more positive for the coming week.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/09/2021 16:02

Thanks Crazzzycat and Cathy31. I think I might just book into some sort of class. That might push me to go.
I'm going to try and do 10k steps a day, starting this week. That's something I can't try and fit in with the kids.

SunshineCake · 06/09/2021 03:51

I'm in hospital. Can't sleep due to the pain and snorers.

I have tonsillitis along with the migraine but have to have an MRA? didn't seem like he said MRI to check my brain due to issues plus there's something wrong with my liver.

Haven't eaten anything since 6pm Saturday apart from an ice lolly Sunday morning to try and get fluids in. Swallowing water is still agony. They forgot my pain relief. After five hours I had to go and ask. Nothing for the tonsillitis. Just want to go home.

fallfallfall · 06/09/2021 04:53

@SunshineCake, virtual hand hold my weight loss friend.
Hopefully you get some peace and a few hours of sleep.

swampytiggaa · 06/09/2021 05:58

@SunshineCake really hope you’ve had some sleep and that you can find out why you have had such a rough time recently 💕

Lots of love from me to you x

SunshineCake · 06/09/2021 06:06

Thank you so much @fallfallfall and @swampytiggaa. I appreciate so much you are here to talk too. I've just had morphine so don't know if I'll make any sense. Does anyone know how long it takes to kick in? I had paracetamol at midnight and it didn't give much relief. I've slept less than 80 minutes. Two poor women were yelling most of the night.

I haven't eaten proper food since 6pm Saturday. I had an ice lolly at 11ish Sunday and nothing since. I'm scared to eat as I think it is going to hurt like mad.

Feel a bit weird. Is that the morphine? Does anyone know how I might react? Cocodomol makes me go in a fog and I don't react well to GA either.

swampytiggaa · 06/09/2021 06:10

I think the morphine will make you feel odd especially if you are on an empty stomach 💕

Don’t know why they routinely offer paracetamol it’s not like you won’t have tried that before 💕

SunshineCake · 06/09/2021 06:14

My dog refused to go to bed. Dh and I left home at 12 noon, he sat outside in the car until half seven so she knew we were missing and then daddy came home without mummy Sad. I know I'm here for at least the morning but I really want to go home. I brought nothing.

It wasn't even a full dose of morphine I assume as she said it is only a small one.

Bed number three is complaining all the time yet she's the only one who slept 10.30-6am! She's been very rude to the nurses.

TheRealHousewife · 06/09/2021 07:20

Good Morning Everyone

A warm welcome @Thatsplentyjack. congratulations on your new baby! You certainly have your plate full … working mum of three. You’ve done great so far on your weight loss journey 👍 Keep doing what you know works for you. Keep satiated, hydrated and nourished.

@Beanobellina jump right in! Nothing like a milestone birthday to kick start life changes. I’m not telling you off! Honest! I speak from experience, I no longer allow too many weekend blowouts to sabotage my weight loss efforts. It’s surprising how a weekend of indulgence and treats can undo my previous weeks efforts. Once at goal we seem to have more wiggle room 😬 What’s your plan?

Well bloody done @swampytiggaa! 10 miles is such an accomplishment 👍👏🥇 BTW great photo!

@Cathy31 Bang on menu! A couple of squares of the dark stuff is said to be good for us. Something to do with the antioxidants and flavanols 😬.

@SunshineCake sorry to read you’re in hospital. Hope you get some sleep! You don’t get any rest in those places! Virtual handhold. Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️

Menu

Meal 1 - Mushroom omelette

Meal 2 - Tray bake of veg and chicken.

Enjoy your day

Morning all! I’ve got this week off so today I had a lie in til 5:30 then tried bootcamp at my local gym 😂😂 jelly legs now. Was good tho

I’m finding the fasting good for me again after a break from it. It just stops me from snacking all evening 😊

In laws brought a veg box round yesterday that they won on a raffle along with a chicken so I’m going to do chicken and veg today with cauliflower cheese for my veggie daughter. Not sure what to do with the swede tho might just cut it up and Chuck it in the freezer ready for casserole season…

Hope you are feeling better very soon @SunshineCake and that you can get home pain free very quickly 💕

Tbh I needed to get going this morning and I knew that by booking someone I would do it. Otherwise I’d still be in bed 😂😂

youdoyoutoday · 06/09/2021 09:35

Morning ladies.

I had a couple days off as I wasn't feeling myself so back on the scales this morning and those 2lbs that went back on Friday have now come off again.

SW: 16 stones 11lbs
CW: 14 stones 11lbs

Still at the 2 stone mark but it's staying off so that a huge positive!! This week's goal to go down by a pound or 2.
I'm off the booze, first morning in a long time without a fuzzy head so I hoping to clean the house as the kids are both out at school/nursery and hopefully go swimming later as the weather looks nice so hopefully a nice day full of burning calories!!

@SunshineCake sorry to hear you're in hospital, I hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

ButterflyOfFreedom · 06/09/2021 11:27

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Graphista, yes it is about shifting the weight now before more creeps on.. slippery slope otherwise!

I love the weigh on Wednesday idea too! I used to weigh on a Monday- after the excess of the weekend - which was sometimes demoralising... Then I switched to a Friday which was better but I think a Wednesday makes sense!
As such, I haven't weighed myself again since coming onto this thread but I'm having a good week - no treats or junk food and have been running a couple of times.
I'm confident I'll have lost at least a pound by Wed if I don't fall off the wagon before then...!!

Well done to everyone on your losses, some very inspirational posts here :)
