Hello and a warm welcome to new & established members. July already! Lockdown easing and an end in sight! Hallelujah! Let’s embrace the summer and extending freedoms feeling like our best selves.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Hello again CescaCesca how are you? Did the wedding ever go ahead? I felt so upset for you, all those false starts.

CescaCesca · 06/07/2021 14:03

Hi Puff,
Good memory!
No unfortunately ☹️ we fully cancelled the whole thing, got as much money back as possible and have put it into our house/savings. Will get married in a few years when the kids are older, and Covid is (hopefully) long forgotten!! 😅

WhataMissMap · 06/07/2021 14:35

Thank you all for being so welcoming.
It’s nice to feel part of a community.

Thank you also to whoever it was that mentioned Lose It. I have an old calorie book from the 90sBlush, which I have been relying on, so this ap is a revelation to me.

It’s helpful to see other people’s losses, and it’s encouraging too!

Puffalicious · 06/07/2021 15:04

Such a shame CescaCesca but glad you've made a decision to wait and you can have the day you want in the future.

RunningKatie · 06/07/2021 16:24

Afternoon all
Having dc home from school is keeping me on the straight and narrow. We have healthy snacks and I make her little treats but don't have them myself.
I'm stuck at the same weight, but keep telling myself it isn't going up and hopefully will start moving downwards again soon.

SunshineCake · 06/07/2021 17:26

Nice to see you back @CescaCesca.

Welcome back from your holidays @Puffalicious.

I have taken two days off all exercise after my ridiculous 22+km run on Sunday but I'll go tomorrow and I think I'll start alternating with the bike for the sake of my knees. The last two days I have taken ddog on an epic afternoon walk, though this morning we were out for two hours as well, and it has been good for both of us. She's less fussing in the evening and I get time alone.

Graphista · 06/07/2021 19:19

@swampytiggaa it's the weirdest things being affected - and I know that Brexit was predicted to affect even British produce due to machinery, fertiliser etc coming from Europe - but it's mainly British produce.

Who you being bought out by?

Welcome back @CescaCesca I wasn't on when you were before. Well done on the weight loss so far and good luck hiring goal. Sorry you delayed your wedding that sucks

@73kittycat73 yes I worry about this stuff, partly as anxious anyway but mainly as I'm so dependent on deliveries. Last two weeks I've had to have an extra delivery from Asda. I've not seen the point in trying to get the same things from Tesco as I can see from the app they still don't have them. They're blaming Brexit but Asda so far don't seem similarly affected.

I have a Brexit stash which I had to use when lockdown first hit last year and I've gradually built up again but it's mainly fresh food I'm having trouble getting. Which I think makes losing weight harder as processed foods tend to be higher cal.

Is the lose it app accurate though? Some may remember my frustration at discovering mfp wasn't as anyone could update the database with unverified info. I've been checking labels and manufacturer sites and I've effectively built my own database of the items I have on a spreadsheet on my phone. I use a separate worksheet for tracking.

@RunningKatie I know it gets harder to lose the closet you are to a healthy bmi.

I may be teaching you to suck eggs here but have you reviewed your new tdee and cals to maintain etc?

I messed up at ww once when I was supposed to move to a new amount of points available as I'd moved down into a lower weight category and so was eating enough to maintain but I needed to lose. Leader spotted the issue. She had told me at weigh in but I'd forgotten (was so chuffed at the news I missed that bit!)

All you proper exercisers are putting me to shame!

I'm doing well if I don't lie down!

Was on my feet almost 3 hours yesterday doing chores.

Similar today, laundry getting sorted.

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:12

We’re being bought out by some American group @Graphista. Hopefully it will only make positive differences but we will wait and see.

Must admit I feel slightly disappointed as I always saw Morrisons as a ‘family’ type set up not a big corporation. The original family are still involved so they’ll be in for a wedge of cash.

73kittycat73 · 06/07/2021 20:16

Hi Graphista I had a stash last year but we just don't have the room really so don't have it anymore. At least Asda are doing ok then.

Graphista · 06/07/2021 20:17

Yea while I'm not personal a fan of Morrison's I'm also not a fan of Foreign corporations taking over

Look what happened with Cadbury - and I don't just mean the chocolate now being crapped. That company totally backtracked on the promises to maintain Uk production and employ Uk staff.

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:19

Congratulations everyone who has lost or sts or had NSV or even just decided to join us 👍 lovely to see you all

@SunshineCake I think alternating running and cycling is sensible 😊 have you ever considered a virtual challenge? I’ve done a couple over the last year and they have really kept me motivated 😊

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:21

Husband has just informed me that one of the Aston Villa owners is a major shareholder in the firm buying us out. He reckons our new uniform will be claret and blue 😂😂

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:29

So I’m managing to keep my water intake up and doing 15k steps every day as a minimum. Was 22k today.

Food is a bit hit and miss. I’ve been rather craving shit carbs recently. 3 donuts yesterday 😭😭 pretty sure it’s hormone related tbh.

Today I worked first thing then went back in for another 3 (6.5) hour shift. So I’ve eaten porridge with raisins in a cereal bar and 3 crumpets with spread and jam. And 4 chocolate malted milk biscuits. Not sure that’s a balanced diet 😭😭

Graphista · 06/07/2021 20:35

Alternating exercise is supposed to stop the body getting "used" to a certain one and not burn as many cals

@swampytiggaa I think that maybe be wishful thinking on dh part Grin

Thanks for the water reminder. I'm seriously considering setting hourly alarms on my phone saying simply "DRINK!!"

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:40

I honestly feel better for drinking more. I have a water bottle with a straw so it’s easy to drink and doesn’t spill if the cats knock it over. I’ve gone from drinking 1 a day to drinking 3 or 4 each day.

SunshineCake · 06/07/2021 20:46

Virtual challenge, @swampytiggaa?

Graphista · 06/07/2021 20:49

Ok not sure I want what I had planned for dinner, especially as it means potato twice in one day, I need to use up corn cobettes, any ideas for meals?

I have in:

Protein/ main component

Quorn - pieces, mince and chilled sliced ready to eat fillets and rashers
Linda McCartney sausages which was original plan
Cauliflower cheese grill (quite high cal, it's the last one I won't get again for a good while because of this)
Nut cutlets
Tinned curries and chillis and lentil ragu

Carbs

Pasta
Rice
Cous cous
Noodles
Bread

Inspire me! Smile

SunshineCake · 06/07/2021 20:54

I'd do cauli grills and cous cous.

Graphista · 06/07/2021 20:57

I think I'd go over cals that way unfortunately. Thinking I may have to save cauliflower grills for a salad day. Already had salad today.

Thanks though

Graphista · 06/07/2021 20:58

I've 685 cals to play with

SunshineCake · 06/07/2021 20:58

Decide by calories then even if a strange combo

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 20:59

@SunshineCake

Virtual challenge, *@swampytiggaa*?
I signed up to do lands end to John o groats last July. Had a year to complete 874 miles either walking or running. I chose to only log runs 😊 you log your distance and can track yourself on a map 😊 you get regular digital postcards and at the end you get a tee shirt and medal. Think it’s about £30

I’ve done LEJOG and the Welsh Coast Path and currently doing the North Coast Path

There is a Route 66 challenge that you can cycle on and I think a Tour de France challenge which is cycling only.

Lovely community on Facebook. Helped get me through the lockdowns tbh

Menora · 06/07/2021 20:59

TMI but my wee is almost clear! I also feel better for drinking a lot

I eat quorn a lot now as good on calories and usually have it with cous cous, then a portion for lunch the next day!

Tomorrow I have some sweet potato falafel things and salad. I am really looking forward to them 😂

SunshineCake · 06/07/2021 23:02

Sounds great @swampytiggaa but I don't have Facebook.

Graphista · 06/07/2021 23:55

Ok - yes I'm eating super late again! Bad graph!

I'm gonna go with @SunshineCake idea of cous cous but I'm gonna do Quorn sliced fillets with aubergine and courgette in the cous cous with a little sweet chilli sauce mixed in and the corn cobettes on the side

Hopefully it will work flavour wise

@menora Quorn is great cals wise but not everyone likes/can eat it. I'm lucky I can/do.
