Hello and a warm welcome to new & established members. July already! Lockdown easing and an end in sight! Hallelujah! Let’s embrace the summer and extending freedoms feeling like our best selves.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Thanks sunshine Grindefinitely won't be weighing for a week afterGrinyour son sounds so sweet baking you cookies Thanks

Puffalicious · 30/07/2021 14:27

Hey guys, sneaking back in. I'm a bit dispirited tbh. Last week's weigh in stayed the same- again- but yesterday up by 3lbs. It's time of the month, admittedly, but I do FEEL heavier around my middle. I'm definitely not over-eating but not sticking to my IF. It's hard in the holidays to stick to it.

Off on a break again Sat-Wed and won't go crazy (I didn't last holiday and put on!!!) but I suspect I'll only start to lose again when I'm back at work on the 12th: routine seems to suit my body, all this relaxing on the hammock with a book is wonderful but not for weight loss!

I'm just a bit ...harumpff. Well done to all still losing.

SunshineCake · 30/07/2021 15:04

Come on @Puffalicious, don't be disheartened. We are the 🐢🐢gang but can't be top of the class all the time. I found that if I wasn't strict with IF I didn't lose anything, and sometimes went up. On the 18 hour fast I've noticed it is only the last two hours that is fat burning.

CarolinaWeeper · 30/07/2021 15:14

I so relate to the baby weight discussion. Although actually I'm heavier now than I was in-between having my DC. Lost 3st before having DC1, got almost back to that before having DC2 but then it crept up and lockdown last year really hit me. I've put on 2st since lockdown 1. I know exactly why..... comfort eating, working from home and not moving as much etc etc but I'm still frustrated with myself. This week has been harder food wise than last week but I think I've been there or thereabouts on my calories each day.....but the "wrong" sort of calories if you know what I mean. It'll be interesting to see what the scales say on Monday.

Graphista · 30/07/2021 15:26

@Elle200 I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope the op goes well are you needing other treatments too? I've a few relatives have had breast cancer and one has had the same op. I think she would say make sure you do the physio recommended and use the skincare recommended too. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

@CescaCesca

our usual dinners are all meat/fish based - chicken/pork stir fry, Spanish chicken, salmon & veg, fajitas, chilli con carne, sausage pasta...

Most are easily adapted to veggie options :

Veggie or vegetarian stir fry (just veg or with a meat sub, if cooking for omnis also either use 2 pans or add meat at the end.)

Spanish chicken I'm not familiar with. Could you use Quorn or similar fillets here?

Salmon and veg, nut cutlets or similar instead?

Fajitas and chilli are easily done veggie

Sausage pasta I like the linda McCartney sausages

Well done on the 2lb loss!

@joysmoy66 thanks for reminder to check monthly figs - 2.75lbs loss for me so that's cheered me up a bit, plus I'm still under 13.5 stone which I'm also taking as a win

@Crazzzycat I've just sat and looked at my diary. 2 days went over even though I'm averaging 1467 per day over the week I think I need to be under EVERY day to get a loss just seems to be how my body works. Also one day I had 8 slices of bread which I think had an impact too. I'm not cutting out bread or anything but I think I need to spread it out across the week. Think I may switch to wholemeal too if I can (I get 400g loaves as I can't get through an 800g one myself) just checked and 400g wholemeal is available so will switch to that next week.

@SunshineCake sorry you're low again. Hopefully you won't miss ds too much. Phone regularly?

@Puffalicious that's annoying but don't lose heart. Perhaps increase activity and reduce cals a bit more?

Juno231 · 30/07/2021 16:11

Firstly, thank you for the warm welcome ladies!

@QueenMabby I agree with you and the plan is to cut back to maybe just having some wine on Fri/Sat. Definitely wouldn't be able to cut it out completely!

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCatemember the time I ran longer than 5km - must be 7 years now lol.

@TheRealHousewife How's the calf today?

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Yes I used to be quite a moderate drinker but it's gone up a lot with lockdown out of sheer boredom really. How long have you been TTC#3 for now?

@Crazzzycat thank you for the book review - sounds sensible but often forgotten when all we aim for is cutting cals usually!

@graphista I tend to snack mindlessly out of boredom so it's not particularly difficult to cut it out - I've just got to remember not to automatically reach for the fridge whenever I feel like it lol. Alcohol wise my consumption just really went up during the pandemic - again due to sheer boredom. I think there's a lot of new research debunking the caffeine/mc connection nowadays actually! But yeah I'm at the stage of my TTC where I can't be bothered with all the supplements/cuts cause nothing I've tried in the past has worked lol!

@crazzzycat When I was borderline 25 BMI my body fat was still 33% so I wouldn't get too upset about it - I think it's fairly normal!

@elle200 best of luck on your surgery - I hope that will be the last you see of the C-bastard! Oh and I have 2 stone to lose so it's a decent amount considering my poor track record in losing any weight previously ha!

QueenMabby · 30/07/2021 16:21

@SunshineCake how sweet of your ds! It must be so tough when they start to leave home. Is he far? My ds is 15 so a while yet but I know it’ll go in a flash.

@Puffalicious it’ll be mostly water retention I’m sure. I always feel massive round that time of the month and like you I really struggle out of routine - even at weekends! I’m mentally giving myself jobs and things to do this weekend to keep me occupied and not reaching for the biscuits!

SunshineCake · 30/07/2021 16:38

@Graphistawe text every day and he Skype a few times a week usually.

This is his third year @QueenMabby of uni but it is his placement year so he's only fifty minutes away as opposed to 2-3 hours. DC2 goes to uni this September and my youngest starts year 12 then.

Just been and bought DC2 18th birthday presents and some random crisp beef thing for me tea.

Having trouble with my running watch which is annoying me. Have done two days of sprints and it is refusing to tell me my km times. Tells me everything else so no idea what is going on. Anyone got a polar flow watch that knows?

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 30/07/2021 17:45

Only about 6 months @Juno231. I had spinal surgery in December so in a way it’s probably for the best it has taken longer this time as I’ve had more of a chance to properly recover. Hopefully one day soon! I have an 18 month gap between my first 2 and love it so I wanted another small gap but hey ho you can’t plan these things can you.

I’ve woken up today with another stinking cold and ds2 is full of snot. Ugh. I had a very annoying cold a couple of weeks ago I’ve only just shaken off. I’m sure my immune system isn’t what it used to be! Lots of bugs going around now I guess.

Yesterday was not a good day for healthy eating. Think I was just a bit run down and ended up having far too many snacks. Today has been better although feeling very resentful adding calories for flipping lemsip on my Fitbit 😂

CescaCesca · 30/07/2021 17:58

Hahaha twins @joysmoy66
We can do this!! 👯‍♀️

joysmoy66 · 30/07/2021 18:12

😂absolutely cesca although I'm having a week off it to go on holiday so fully expect a gain. Will try not to weigh until end of aug to give me time to get it back down!

CescaCesca · 30/07/2021 18:19

We really are twins 😂 I'm having a week off for my birthday! Hahaha! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Puffalicious · 30/07/2021 18:23

Thanks all. I DO need to stick to my IF Sunshine, I think that's the key.

Having tuna and feta salad now, will have cherries and an ice lolly before 7 and that's me! Back on the horse.

joysmoy66 · 30/07/2021 19:25

😂cesca! Have a fabulous birthday and enjoy every bite!

SunshineCake · 30/07/2021 19:43

Have a great week @CescaCesca!

I'm having a night off. I just want to eat. I do feel hungry but I also feel I am eating my feelings.

Graphista · 30/07/2021 19:49

@Juno231 hope I haven't caused offence, just saying what I did when trying to achieve a full length pregnancy. Research may well have changed in some respects it's been a long time. Wishing you so much luck and success with it.

Re premenstrual/menstrual weight gain, I'm on noriday permanently now but when I wasn't I could gain as much as 7lbs week of period and drop 9lbs the fortnight after once it had been and gone (mine lasted 10-15 days heavy the whole time due to endo)

I've had a delivery of cross stitch stuff and puzzle mags so hoping they keep me occupied and hands distracted

text every day and he Skype a few times a week usually.

Aw that's lovely. I only hear from dd when she wants something! Money, advice, editorial services on assignments...

I jest (slightly) she's super busy at the moment as she's working as many hours as poss in 3 jobs to save money up for next academic year, plus learning to drive (with some difficulty due to her disability it's driving her nuts!)

So she hasn't much free time.

She called the other night and messaged yesterday.

Lots of bugs going around now I guess

I think with people having isolated/socially distanced for past year+ it's not just COVID that was stopped temporarily from spreading or spread was minimised. It's all the usual bugs too.

@Puffalicious I've cherries in too!

@joysmoy66 and @CescaCesca

Enjoy your birthdays both august babies?

TheRealHousewife · 30/07/2021 20:14

Hi Everyone

I don’t know where today has gone; I’ve tried to pop on all day!

Anyways here’s LOSE IT August 2021

@Elle200 Flowers ❤️

Great losses @CescaCesca & @joysmoy66 👍👏. Are you the same person hahahah 🤣 Twins indeed!

@SunshineCake What a lovely son you have ❤️ Made with love cookies don’t have any calories 😉

Lovely to see you @Puffalicious. Sorry you’ve not had a good month. Try to not worry too much. Brand new shiny month around the corner. Fresh clean slate and start over 😊

@CarolinaWeeper you’ve aware of what you need to change which is half the battle. You’ve done it before and you’ll do it again 👍

@Juno231 thank you for asking, my calf still feels bruised tbh. I seem to be getting more soft tissue injuries. A tendon or something in my other leg is painful too. I’m a bit broken all way around 😬

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Hope you feel better soon! Colds are awful things. They sap your energy and make you feel so groggy. Well done on counting the cals of your lemsip 😬

Enjoy your crossstich @Graphista.

Menu
Meal 1 - Scrammbled egg and salmon

Meal 2 - Salad, guacamole & spicy chicken wrap.

Almonds, walnuts, pear.

Enjoy Your Evenings.

Good job they 🍪don't have calories as I've eaten five or 6 and I'm on my second baileys. I've also been trying to message you all day. Sorry.

Happy birthday Cesca🎂🎁🎈🎉🕯

I love cherries Graphista I could eat a box every day!

joysmoy66 · 30/07/2021 21:00

Not my birthday graphista-I'm an October born. But have a wedding to attend with a stay in a posh manor tomorrow and off on holiday Monday and plan to enjoy every bit of it😁

Graphista · 30/07/2021 22:21

@TheRealHousewife thanks I have 5 kits now! Goodness knows how long they'll take (there was a sale on)

@Puffalicious I love cherries too but they do have a laxative effect on me so I'll be spreading them out across the week.

@joysmoy66 ahh right ok. Well hope you have a lovely time anyhow where you off to? (If you don't mind saying) off to find new thread

joysmoy66 · 31/07/2021 07:11

Not at all graph we are going to Yarmouth. We did have a holiday booked with hoseasons but they cancelled it unfortunately. Just pleased we could get something else tbh. The wedding today is 4 hours away from us at Thornton manor-looks lovely! Have to leave in an hourGrin

Juno231 · 31/07/2021 09:01

@Graphista no offence taken at all! I love a bit of embroidery so I'm jealous of your cross stitch kit arriving - do you do much arts and crafts stuff like that?

@TheRealHousewife thank you for the new thread! Sorry to hear about your lumps and bumps. Do you take any collagen or curcumin for your joints? Might help xx

TheRealHousewife · 31/07/2021 09:23

Good morning Everyone

I’ve done something with the iPad key board and it’s now 3 inches square ….does anyone know how I can revert it …

@SunshineCake mmmmm Baileys … I dare not have it in as it calls me from the cupboard until I’ve drunk it all 😬

@CescaCesca. Is it your birthday Happy birthday 🥳

@joysmoy66 enjoy your wedding!

@Juno231 thank you. I add turmeric to lots of things. I might try the pure supplement.

I’ll have to make this a short post as typing in very difficult for me on tiny key board.
