Hello and a warm welcome to new & established members. July already! Lockdown easing and an end in sight! Hallelujah! Let’s embrace the summer and extending freedoms feeling like our best selves.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The members of these threads are inspirational, supportive and happy to share their progress (the ups and the downs).

We all know that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will reap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a healthy cycle.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. Personally, I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I try to not overload on carbs etc, include a protein source with most meals and aim to glug enough water. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding. We generally have WOW (weigh on Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. I’ve weighed daily at times and weekly at other times. Do what works for you.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

Thanks TheRealHousewife I've definitely learned this attitude from this thread. Good news on holiday- I felt completely fine in my new wet suit! Been years since I've owned one (pre-kids when I used to scuba dive) so that's a major win.

TheRealHousewife · 05/07/2021 20:13

I bet you totally rocked the wet suit 🤿 @Puffalicious 👍😬

I once tried scuba diving but I felt panicked under the water. The thought of doing it was exciting but in reality I found it scary.

Hi everyone. Smile
Well done on an inch off the belly Graphista! That's awesome! Star I'd love to lose an inch off my belly. Total apple here. Will be measuring and weighing next Monday. I used to do it four weekly on my old dial type scales. I thought as the weight loss slows I'd get some digital scales for a more accurate reading. Still, I thought I'd give it a good fortnight between weighing for (hopefully!) a bigger loss and so more motivation.
Which Fabulous 50s workouts caught your eye? I do the 10 min standing abs, 10 min begginers HIIT and 5 minute balance. I thought that one would help me improve my yoga! Smile

Graphista · 05/07/2021 20:44

@Puffalicious welcome back, enjoying the holiday is the most important thing, you can get back on track now. I wish I had done scuba diving etc when I was younger no chance now (lung issues)

@veryblearyeyed thank you didn't mean to make anyone feel excluded sorry

@73kittycat73 thank you

I couldn't use a dial scale these days as I wouldn't be able to read it!! Mine are digital and in BIG numbers which is good. I weigh 3 times as sometimes I get odd results I know aren't right sometimes.

Must add to schedule to measure once a month. Yesterday was the 4th but think I'll do it on the 1st of each month

I looked at the standing abs, I couldn't do all of those the way she does but I could modify the one leg ones to do them seated or standing but holding onto bed head. (My balance is screwed!) and the others I had a brief look at and seem doable

Puffalicious · 05/07/2021 20:45

Loads of people find that TheRealHousewife. I'm actually an advanced scuba diver: I travelled the world diving in my 20s, qualifying in Thailand and Bali. Oh the memories! For now I'll settle for body boarding in the North SeaGrin. Cold but exhilarating!

Puffalicious · 05/07/2021 20:47

Ah Graphista you can watch loads of amazing documentaries these days that make you feel that you are really there.

73kittycat73 · 05/07/2021 20:51

I believe she does a sitting abs too Graphista. I bought some fancy pants scales that tell you bmi, muscle and body fat %, etc. Only thing isd I don't know how to programme the damn thing! Grin Will try again when I next weigh.

TheRealHousewife · 05/07/2021 21:20

Very impressive @Puffalicious! You don’t ride a motorbike too do you? I knew a great lady who was an accomplished scuba diver and she also rocked the biker chick vibe too!

OP posts:
Puffalicious · 05/07/2021 22:36

I wish I was biker chick but, sadly, no. I had a boyfriend once who was a biker - he took me on a date riding the bike through a graveyard with the lights off. It was rather fantastic, actually, but I was only 17, so quite easily impressedGrin. I had another boyfriend who was a scooter boy- now that was very cool, especially as he was into Northern soul. My father was NOT impressed as, apparently, he spoke like a thugGrinGrinGrin. Why didn't we ever know we were living the life of Riley at the time?! So funny.

Graphista · 05/07/2021 22:40

@Puffalicious ah I know - but it's not quite the same. I'm such a coastal person I actually get physically ill when I live too far from the sea. Even a dr recognised this in me before - not just mentally, my breathing acts up and all sorts

@73kittycat73 I'll look out that sitting abs thanks

Puffalicious · 05/07/2021 22:44

Graphista are you near the coast? Can you get out for the day at all? Can someone drive you? It would really lift you if you could.

Graphista · 05/07/2021 22:50

I'm right on the coast. Can't get out yet though - working on it (agoraphobia)

Puffalicious · 06/07/2021 00:13

Very envious of you being on the coast. Keep working on trying to get there. In the meantime you'll be able to hear and smell it.

Graphista · 06/07/2021 01:17

Nope - can't open windows. I can see it just about.

veryblearyeyed · 06/07/2021 03:16

@Graphista

I'm right on the coast. Can't get out yet though - working on it (agoraphobia)
That sounds so tough, @Graphista. Fingers crossed you’ll get there soon.
TheRealHousewife · 06/07/2021 08:35

Good morning Everyone

How wonderful to live near the coast @Graphista. Are not physically unable to open windows or is it part of your acrophobia? Or difficult because of your physical disability? I have to have windows open or I feel to stuffy. Hope you’re ok?

@Puffalicious I know! We were all living a cool life and didn’t know it. They do say youth is wasted on the young!

I feel quite pants yesterday/today. Tearful and stuff. I think it’s an after effect of the fall down stairs and feeling vulnerable.

Didn’t sleep any worse or better last night. I did notice feeling much more sleepy early evening but ignored the cue to stay up with OH.

Menu

Meal 1 - scrambled egg, sauté red peppers and ‘shrooms. Few pecans.

Meal 2 - Chicken and vegetable stir fry. Apple/pear.

Have a great day!

Morning all, I'm still at it. Went over my cals on Sunday but after a week of tracking, I've lost 3lbs so I'm really happy with that.

Hope you all have a really good day. It's chucking it down up here so no 2 mile school drop-off walk today :(

TheRealHousewife · 06/07/2021 09:14

That’s a marvellous result @Sparticle … you must be doing something right!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 06/07/2021 09:20

Hi all, I dropped off the thread for a bit. Was mega stressed with the house purchase (still all up in the air Sad) and then had a week away at center parcs and then my birthday so food tracking and healthy eating completely went out of the window. Back on it yesterday and weighed myself and saw I’ve gained back 4lb Blush. However this morning I am 2lb lighter so assuming some of that was water weight.

Looking back I was getting quite fatigued with the dieting and needed a couple of weeks off so I’m not too upset about the gain, ready to get back on it now as I’m so close to my goal. Was 10 stone 7 before my holiday, now 10 stone 9. Goal is 10 stone. Considering I was 13 stone 8 at the start of Jan I’m keeping in mind the progress I’ve made so far and looking forward to my goal weight and (trying) to not stress about gaining.

Sparticle · 06/07/2021 10:26

Hey @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat - I went through an extremely stressful house move last Oct to this April and I put on 5lbs too. It's totally understandable, try not to beat yourself up.

I'm also at about the same weight and goal as you. I'm currently 10 stone 11.5 and looking to get to 10 stone 3. But you've come much further than me - brilliant progress!

Graphista · 06/07/2021 10:35

@TheRealHousewife it's the agoraphobia prevents windows opening

Sorry you're feeling a bit down - not uncommon after an accident. Hope you feel much better today and wishing you a speedy recovery

Meal one - baked potato with cottage cheese and salad

Meal 2 - sausage (or possibly nut cutlet) with mash and 2 corn cobettes

Tesco app and site playing up on me plus loads of items unavailable - they're blaming brexit. Anyone else noticing issues with food shopping?

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat

Hope you had a lovely time at Center parcs and that house purchase resolved soon

A couple of friends having issues with house purchases at the moment too, so I'm guessing a widespread issue

Sure you'll do well getting back on track with your success so far - gives me hope that's for sure that's amazing in 6 months

swampytiggaa · 06/07/2021 11:04

@Graphista not heard Brexit blamed but the shelves at work are currently pitiful… partly down to savage staff cuts I think.

We are being bought out so have suspicions that management are making it look like we have low overheads to make it look more attractive #cynical

CescaCesca · 06/07/2021 11:28

Hello All 👋🏻
Can I rejoin the thread please 😊
Not sure if anyone remembers me but I followed along for a few months end of last year/beginning of this year under a similar username.
Fell off the thread and the wagon a bit, but caught sight of myself eating a Krispy Kreme donut yesterday and thought "I'm on a slippery slope here".
I am not so far away from my original goal weight (although I think I will be setting a new goal weight after that anyway) and I need something to keep me accountable and reign me in a bit? So hello 👋🏻

SW: 12 st 1 lb (1st Oct 2020)
CW: 9 st 10 lb
GW: 9 st 7 lb
(I'm thinking of moving this to 9 st exactly)

I lost the first 2 stone with help from you guys so I'm back to lose the last one 🎉

I am avoiding sugar/processed foods (moving forward I mean....), eating lots of veg, drinking 2L of water minimum and working out with the Fiit app most days.

73kittycat73 · 06/07/2021 11:38

Sorry to hear you're feeling teary TheRealHousewife. Sad Do you think it could be delayed shock?
Congratulations on the 3lb Sparticle! That's really good. Star
Hi MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Smile Well done on the two pound loss. Star When I get fed up with dieting I always think with my next shop I'll buy in stuff to maintain for a while, then I can never so it! Grin I feel like time is passing by that I could be losing weight, and I' rather get it done sooner than later. Sounds like you have a good break and are back on the horse though. Smile
Hi Graphista Smile I have heard rumblings on this site of food shortages because of Brexit. I really hope it doen't become a problem. Sad (Are you like me, a huge worrier about things like this?)
