I love broccoli and Stilton soup. Both things to which I am now intolerant of course

purplegirl13 · 06/01/2022 16:46

@sooverthemill what are you eating at the moment that's 'safe'?

My sister recently announced she's getting a divorce and understandably her emotions are all over the place. It's looking as if her husband will try to screw her over.

My worry/ anxiety has messed with my appetite. I really didn't expect to feel so shaken, I'm only eating now for the first time today. Rice and tofu stirfry.

Badgerstmary · 06/01/2022 23:50

Happy new year everyone. Well I had my 50th birthday & had managed to lose weight but it was partly the fact that I got a nasty dose of covid & couldn’t even shower for 9 days. Not the best way to celebrate. Since then I have been knackered and my eating habits have gone to pot, but I’m now back more determined than ever. Yes I’ve put a few pounds back on over Christmas but at least I start the year with only a few pounds to lose & not over 2 stone!

purplegirl13 · 07/01/2022 07:58

@Badgerstmary belated birthday wishes! Do take it easy, and maybe eat some comforting foods - there are a few of us on here who are big soups fans. Nourishing and low-calorie

Happy Friday everyone, I am feeling like an anxious wreck. I am so upset about my sister's husband trying to screw her over, and she's fairly passive and he will take advantage. But it's not my fight is it?

Anyway, I've skipped a few meals due to illness/anxiety so no surprise I've lost 1.2lbs since Monday. I am sure some of this will be because I'm dehydrated.

Hope the scales are kind to you if you are weighing in today x

Morningmaeve · 07/01/2022 08:34

Happy birthday @Badgerstmary - hopefully you can have a belated celebration once you are feeling better. Sorry to hear you are so stressed @purplegirl13 - my weight always drops when I am anxious too. All you can do if look after yourself so you can support your sister as much as possible. I am back over 9 stone which is no surprise given the way I ate and drank over Christmas. I am hoping dry Jan can reverse the trend. Hello to everyone else!
Current weight: 9stone 0.6lb
Target weight: 8stone 10lb

Sooverthemill · 07/01/2022 08:39

@Badgerstmary happy birthday! Definitely take it easy after covid, just try to look after yourself as much as you can
@purplegirl13 not much! Gluten free bread, raspberry jam and marmite for lunch, granola and lactose free yoghurt for breakfast and parsnips, carrots and plain meat for dinner although I can tolerate chicken curry made with medium curry powder, butternut squash and coconut milk and brown rice. Which is weird but I tried it when DD1 was here and I was only slightly unwell. But last night I had pork chop no fat parsnips and carrots and I felt very unwell all evening. It's boring

purplegirl13 · 07/01/2022 13:12

@Morningmaeve with no wine, and some mindful eating you'll soon get back under 9st.

@Sooverthemill yeah, I completely get that 'boring' feeling when I'm having a IBD flare up - it's mostly white food and feels so repetitve. Am I right in thinking you cant eat eggs either? Will you try and seek advice privately since you've not got anywhere with your GP?

It's 1pm and I haven't been able to eat, the weight is going to whoosh off me at this rate. I need to work on the anxiety before it starts wrecking havoc on my gut and sends me into an IBD flare up. I might reach out to the counsellor I've not seen for a couple of years but now I'm working I can definitely justify the expensive.

I've gone to TK Maxx and bought some bath bombs, will plan on having a bath tonight ) the first in about a year.

Hope everyone else is having a better day

WellTidy · 07/01/2022 19:16

Happy new year to you all.

I was with you in this thread until around may/June when I fell off (both the thread and the wagon!) but I’m so happy to see that you’re still here

I started 2021 at 10st 13.5lb and in June got to 9st 3.5lb. Unfortunately I have eaten my way back up to 10st 5lb but I am, since the start of this week, back on it. I’ve walked for five miles three times this week and I am back to logging what I walk and eat in my fitness pal.

I clearly need the accountability to keep me on track. I’m really disappointed that I pretty much put back on all that I lost, but I can’t change that now. I have a wedding to go to at the end of February and I would like to be around 9st 12lb for that. And another wedding in May, which I would absolutely love to be around 9st 2lb for, but we will see.

I can see that you’ve all had ups and downs. Hoping for more ups than downs for everyone in 2022.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 08/01/2022 08:32

Good to see you @WellTidy. I have a holiday booked for May (the 4th covid reschedule of it from March 2020!) so if you want a buddy with a similar goal date let me know. I've got a similar target too (currently 10st 2.)

@purplegirl13 and @Morningmaeve I did have wine last night but it was planned. I went to an event at a bar and I go so very rarely that I wasn't going to waste it. Also DH birthday this month, so it's dry jan except those two evenings. I feel that I'll get the benefits without depriving myself of rare celebratory events.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 08/01/2022 08:36

Happy birthday @Badgerstmary, that sounds like a tough time you've had.

@Knittingnanny2 I also have a DH with lots of willpower. Although it's more that he simply prefers the taste of healthy food. He's much more likely to raid the muesli than the quality street. But I was thinking it's definitely more helpful to live with someone like that than someone who'll join in! And it means he rarely brings bad food into the house (except pastries for breakfast).

Sooverthemill · 08/01/2022 08:58

@WellTidy nice to see you back. You are right to leave behind last year and move forward with a fresh goal. We are here to help you!
@neverenoughchelseaboots the odd glass is fine isn't it? l rarely drink tbh because of DD I feel I need to be fighting fit always.
@purplegirl13 oh no I can eat eggs thank goodness. I do wonder if I have post infectious IBS but the GP just won't engage. DH works for the NHS in a non clinical role and doesn't want me to go private. I shall think more

purplegirl13 · 08/01/2022 09:34

@WellTidy Lovely to see you back! I have regained to 10st4 (I did get as low as 9st9/10) and I'm making a real effort to not compare and start afresh. Your posts often inspired me to get out walking and I'm hoping they will do again Smile

@neverenoughchelseaboots I hope you have a lovely night out

@Sooverthemill do think more. but it definitively sounds like something isn't right and will need investigations. So glad you can eat eggs! I had it in my mind you couldn't. They are a great way of adding variety when having a limited diet. My quick, comforting meal when I'm in a flare up is rice, topped with a fried egg and some soy/tamari sauce.

I am still very anxious, sleeping tablets got me to sleep last night. My nephew came around for a bath yesterday afternoon, and to take down the Christmas tree (he always puts it up). I managed to eat some noodles last night but that was the only bit of food I had all day.

My friend is coming around this afternoon to help me declutter my wardrobe. I think she will help me be brutal.

Morningmaeve · 08/01/2022 09:36

Welcome back @WellTidy - I have a wedding to go to at the end of April so that is focusing my mind too. I agree you shouldn't deprive yourself of celebratory events @neverenoughchelseaboots - it's the mindless habit drinking I want to lose. Still dry here but I'm eating more rubbish to compensate! Glad you are okay with eggs @Sooverthemill - they are a real superfood. Is there another GP at the practice you could see? Hope you are feeling better today @purplegirl13. Happy weekend all Smile

Knittingnanny2 · 08/01/2022 18:59

I’ve scrabbled around on my hands and knees in the cupboard under the stairs to retrieve one of the hidden tubs of chocolate. I’ve ripped off the sellotape in a frenzy and have eaten a lot in a row.
End of confession

Knittingnanny2 · 08/01/2022 21:12

Inevitably I now feel queasy and furious with myself
Tomorrow is another day
I’ve bought a new notebook to start again recording my mindful calorie intake and track my weight loss. Think it will be about 3 or 4 lbs up from lowest at least

Sooverthemill · 09/01/2022 10:49

@Knittingnanny2 don't let that ruin this for you! Accept it, forgive yourself ( if you feel guilty) and mov on. Every day is a new day. DH went out yes and came home with loads of gluten and lactose free treats for me! I'd been very fed up as I can't eat much and wanted something I could have with a cup of tea with DD. But although they meet my intolerance needs they are quite high calorie!

purplegirl13 · 09/01/2022 10:52

@Morningmaeve glad to hear you're still 'dry'
@Knittingnanny2 oh dear, but I have to say you held out longer than I would've done.
@neverenoughchelseaboots @WellTidy it seems like we have similar goals/timelines. I would like be 10st by the end of this month (or as close as I can get) and I'm aiming for 9st by June.
@Sooverthemill how are you doing?

Due to anxiety, I'm only eating once a day, but I've managed to speak to the counselling service provided by work and they've agreed to arrange 6 face to face counselling sessions soon.

A friend came around and helped me declutter yesterday and without her I'd have not got rid of as much. I have a LOT of clothes (mostly for Summer) that I love and can't fit into; they're being vacuumed packed so I don't see them until June. I have piles for charity shop/ebay and later today I'm going to tackle toiletries/shoes/bags. This is a great way of channeling my anxiety into something useful at least.

Happy Sunday everyone x

Morningmaeve · 09/01/2022 13:24

Enjoy your treats @Sooverthemill. I am glad you are getting some help with your anxiety @purplegirl13 - it is horrible. I am currently making a vat of broccoli and Stilton soup with my leftover wedge of cheese. Husband made a cheesecake yesterday and I had some of that. I think my focus for jan is staying dry and not the weight loss - will be happy to maintain for next couple of weeks.

Morningmaeve · 09/01/2022 13:27

Hello @Knittingnanny2 - I must say the image of you scrabbling around in the cupboard under the stairs resonated with me! I am usually searching for a bottle of wine in the same circumstances!

purplegirl13 · 09/01/2022 18:45

@Knittingnanny2 I don't normally have sweet treats in the flat as I can't be trusted but during desperate times, I've have been known to dig out the stepstool and go rummaging in the cupboard for baking chocolate. I always regret it as baking chocolate is never a good idea even if feels like it at the time!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 10/01/2022 10:50

Hi everyone! great to see this thread is still running and that there are lots of familiar faces/names :) I hope you don't mind me re-joining.

I had been doing great with my weight-loss - got down to 8stone 6lbs! But Christmas was an epic disaster. Like so many people we all had covid and I managed to eat my way through it all. I wasn't very ill, but i completely came off the rails, I ate about 33 bags of crisps (no exaggeration), ALL the cheese, sooooo much wine. I haven't been brave enough to weigh but I know I'm heavier because I've had to undo the top button of my jeans 🤭

I'm doing dry January too, but I broke it on Saturday night for a rare date night, back on it again now as I've no other social engagements for the rest of the month.

My plan is exercising 3/4 times a week and to eat clean. I'm not going to calorie count.

purplegirl13 · 10/01/2022 11:41

@SwimmingOnEggshells hello soup buddy, lovely to have you back Smile
Hope you are feeling much better post-covid

SwimmingOnEggshells · 10/01/2022 14:06

@purplegirl13 waves! I'm sorry to hear what your sister is going through, she's lucky to have you supporting her.

neverenoughchelseboots · 11/01/2022 07:24

Hey there founder, welcome back @SwimmingOnEggshells

I've had a bad week, I have been doing my walks, even in the rain, but I've been hitting the biscuits. The baby feeds a lot so sometimes I don't get chance to eat when I'm due a meal and need a stop gap.

My mum did say yesterday though that she thinks I look like I'm back to my normal shape and had lots of nice comments from others now that I've been out and about more.

Sooverthemill · 11/01/2022 09:21

Hello @SwimmingOnEggshells! Nice to see you. You know everyone's done it, so just take it one day at a time. I'm still under 9 but not massively surprising given I can't eat much! Interesting as it's pretty much stuck so I'm obviously eating enough to maintain
