Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

poorpaws · 06/06/2021 20:22

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

@cherrytree63 4lbs is such a good loss and it's early days so very well done.

I haven’t done quite so well tonight, perhaps it’s the wicked weekend. I really wanted to stuff my face with chocolate as I always do in the evenings but I had a bowl of porridge and two bowls of crunchy nut cornflakes. I realise this is far too much but it’s still not as bad as eating the enormous amount of chocolate I would normally eat. In fact this is my sixth day without chocolate, I think that might be a record.

@poorpaws I find popcorn is good for crunching through in lieu of chocolate. It's surprisingly low calorie, especially if you get salted.

poorpaws · 13/06/2021 10:41

@MegBusset you’ve just reminded me, I used to eat popcorn when trying to lose weight years ago. I’ll give it a try again, thank you.

Not long now to our first weigh in (for most of us). I feel surprisingly nervous but I’ve done my best this week and not faulted too much.

It will have to be a very short dog walk today, it’s far too hot here and I’m exhausted before the day starts. I much prefer the heat to the cold though.

Have a good day everyone and soon wicked weekend will be done! Good luck.

Is everyone weighing in tomorrow? Hopefully we all get some good results.

This morning I did my first workout using weights in years, had to dust them off and everything :-) I couldn't finish and was dripping in sweat with a face like a beetroot by the end, but did a good 20 minutes and now I feel amazing - like superwoman!!

I had porridge for breakfast, so will try and keep up the momentum and eat well today, good luck everyone.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 13/06/2021 13:59

poorpaws yeah today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far here, so I might venture out for a short walk, but trying to stay cool and not scoff loads of ice cream!

poorpaws · 13/06/2021 14:16

@Mulletsaremisunderstood that workout is so impressive. Not everyone is weighing tomorrow morning but I am. I know someone said they weighed on Tuesday and another Friday. I think the majority of us will weigh tomorrow though just because it’s a week.

This thread is slowing down a bit which is worrying. Mumsnet let me know a few days ago that there were 55 different people and more have joined us since but I think some have already dropped out. It’s so unfortunately because I think we’ve created a good gang.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 13/06/2021 15:16

i know, people tend to have a bad few days and then are embarrassed to come back or whatever. I understand if it feels like everyone is ploughing ahead without you.
Hopefully they will come back and join us...weight loss is such a weird thing, you can know all the right stuff to do, but have to be in a good mind set to stick with it.

Anyway, I might weigh in tonight coz I'm desperate to know if I've lost any weight...have spent most of the week hungry so it better have been for something Grin

Hello hello! I am still here!

Busy few days. My eating and drinking are still a bit of a mess.
Yesterday, met someone for brunch which turned into having a pizza with aubergines, peppers, goats cheese, pesto. I left most of the crust but not sure that it was very diet-friendly... only drank water,

Last night, I fancied pizza again so I bought a plain ish one - tomato & pepperoni. It was quite dry, so not too cheesy. Not sure if this is good or bad. Had 2 large glasses of white wine though Hmm

This morning, had to attend work thing. There was even bucks fizz on offer but I just had 1 glass orange juice, then 1 rasher bacon, 1 egg, 1 hash brown & a few mushrooms. Not sure if this is good or bad. I had to eat something to be social arghhh! I didn't even want it! Annoying. Also, didn't notice fruit until after.

I'm on a train at mo and in 1st class, so had a chicken salad sub and diet coke. Meeting family for dinner later. This will be so hard! It will be sushi, so I think ok.

I think I just have to accept there will be a bit of disorder for a bit, and to choose low calorie options. I'm cross because that pizza yesterday, I wanted a salad but they didn't have any. Grrrr.

poorpaws · 13/06/2021 17:49

@Mulletsaremisunderstood if you weigh tonight you’ll weigh more than first hing in the morning so I’d hang on if you can bear to.

@JohnSteinbeck you are doing as well as you can so don’t beat yourself up about the pizza. I can take or leave a pizza, I probably have two a year but I get tempted by many other foods as witnessed by my weight. Glad you’re still here 😀

Hello! Can I join? I’d like to lose a lockdown stone for sure. My downfall is chocolate and wine! Hoping that contributing to this thread will help - it sounds like you are all getting right into the swing of things and doing well. I do enjoy running which really helps but I have a knee injury at the moment and I’m not yet cutting down on chocolate to compensate for this!

FunnyWonder · 13/06/2021 18:54

I'm still here too!

Got back about an hour ago from a trip to the beach. DC had a blast running up and down the sand dunes. DP and I walked along fairly briskly on the wet sand.

Had a glass of red wine and a Magnum last night, although I fell asleep after half the glass. At least I didn't fall asleep half way through the Magnum - that would have been a disasterGrin Other than those treats I ate fairly well.

Today hasn't been too bad. I had a small bag of crisps with my sandwiches at the beach, but am ok with that, even though crisps are my major stumbling block. It's the robotic mindless munching in front of the TV that causes problems for me as I just keep on eating - usually a giant bag of 'posh' crisps! Then I feel the need for something sweet, usually chocolate.

So, I'll weigh myself tomorrow. Any loss at all would make me very happy indeed.

Chin up everyone!

muddledmidget · 13/06/2021 19:18

I'm still here, but only just starting after returning from holiday. Today has been a good day. Mushroom omelette for Brunch and roast dinner with just a couple of potatoes for dinner. Only snacks have been a slice of toast as I was planning an earlier dinner, and 2 oreos. Plus I've done my 10k steps and drunk 2l of water.

Guestdressquery · 13/06/2021 20:31

I would be all for taking a similar approach to mumsnet threads as we do to snacks: quality over quantity Wink am thoroughly enjoying our little lockdown weight loss community.

Today was ok, though with some treats. 11k walked, 2l water.

B: overnight oats, strawbs/blueberries, pecans
L: homemade chicken curry, rice (small portion and even then couldn't finish it). Bluberry and custard brioche. Yes: I had no room for the rest of my rice but I did managed to finish all my dessert Hmm
D: one teeny glass white wine, avocado/tomato/mozzarella salad and a slice of toast. Strawberries & 0% vanilla yoghurt.

Bring on the measuring tape tomorrow!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 13/06/2021 22:27

@JohnSteinbeck and @poorpaws, I completely empathise with the jeans issue. I've been stuck in elasticated jeggings but I don't think they actually suit me regardless of weight, my body shape suits bootcut/ flares much more. I bought some size 16 maternity jeans (I know, I know!) as I have an awful C section scar and couldn't face some jeans sitting right on top of it. They're actually a bit long but they were cheap via ebay so I don't care too much!

I do like the Paul McKenna theory @cherrytree63, I'm just clearly too greedy for it to work for me Blush another interesting book was the Marisa Peer one, about why people overeat to begin with and how to combat that - perhaps I need to give it another read as apparently it didn't sink in enough for me...

Have you seen the Joe Wicks series on Netflix @fingersdoublecrossed? I'm finding it really interesting, it's from 2016 so pre PE with Joe etc, it concentrates more on the basics of HIIT exercise and good food. Maybe I'll have to set my own 90 day challenge Hmm

I completely agree with @Guestdressquery's approach to MN threads - I really don't join many as some get quite bitchy - but thank you to everyone who contributes on here, and well done to all the 'losers' already!!

unicornsandchocolate · 13/06/2021 22:30

I'm also enjoying this little community. Day #7 for me has been ok but not great. I really find the weekends harder. We went to a bbq and I avoided the crisps and also offered to drive to no wine-so wasn't too bad. But I did have a mini magnum.
I'm not weighing as I don't currently have a working scales. I may buy one, but I'm hoping to see a change in my clothes and not rely on the scales.

fingersdoublecrossed · 13/06/2021 23:27

Hi everyone!
Tough few days - fell off the wagon spectacularly! Back on it today but I haven't logged. Will start everything again properly tomorrow.

cherrytree63 · 14/06/2021 00:08

I'm still here, can't say that my aim of LCHF is going spectacularly well, but it's 9 days since I've eaten any chocolate so that is a win for me. I can't stop once I start, I'm like a rabid crack addict at times Grin

Eviebeans · 14/06/2021 06:55

Morning everyone - I'm really pleased that by some miracle I am 3 pounds lighter than this time last week. I'm surprised because I haven't felt hungry or that I've missed out. I have given the chocolate, cakes and biscuits a miss all last week tho. When it comes to the chocolate digestives one is too many and ten is never enough. I think I must have been really greedy before.
Glad everyone is still here. I think posting here is really helpful for me. Good luck this week everyone.

MegBusset · 14/06/2021 07:17

Morning all Smile first weigh-in for me:

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 13lb
GW: 9st 7lb

Pretty pleased with that! And had friends round for a BBQ yesterday but managed to stick to my calories and just sipped at one glass of prosecco to be sociable.

Is my birthday on Thursday so going out for fish and chips, not sure how to make that healthy so think I'll just enjoy it and move on!

Lostmyunicorn · 14/06/2021 07:34

Morning all well done to those who’ve shed some pounds! I’m weighing tomorrow and fasting today. I’m going to try to go all day but I may have a salad this evening depending on how I feel. The dog and I went for a run at 6 this morning which was just lovely, not too hot yet and the dew still glistening in the sunshine. I also hit the gym twice her the weekend so pleased with that. Did have some (a bit too much) wine at the weekend but otherwise not too bad.

muddledmidget · 14/06/2021 07:39

My first week has not gone to plan, but I was on holiday. Have gained a pound but am now home and ready to start properly, gym booked for 11am and fridge full of healthy options.

Hope everyone else has had a better first week, it certainly seems so from the numbers, and next week I hope to have lost at least a couple

poorpaws · 14/06/2021 08:09

Morning everyone, nice to see some positive posts and well done to those who have lost pounds. There are some good losses so far.

I’ve lost 3 lbs. to be honest I was hoping for 4 lbs in the first week because I have a pattern of losing nothing on weeks 2 and 3 but I’ll see if I can change that.

I’m out all day today so it will every challenging. We go to our favourite cafe but they don’t serve salads, in fact it’s a struggle to find anything on the menu with low calories. My OH is bound to have something with chips and the chips are so lovely.

I’ll check in later tonight to see if there are any further losses.

I so pleased I started this thread, I’m positive I’d be 3lbs heavier now if I hadn’t. Thank You to everyone for contributing and good luck to those who still haven’t weighed in yet.

Good morning, all. Some fantastic losses here!

I am measuring myself and seem to have lost 3/4 inch on my waist and absolutely nothing on my hips. This is not surprising to me - I lose weight on the waist fast. And I think I read that it takes 4kg loss to take an inch off the hips?

Definitely feeling healthier and better about myself though. Aiming for a no chocolate day today (entirely sympathise with @cherrytree63 regarding an addition to the stuff!).

FunnyWonder · 14/06/2021 08:37

Hello all.

I've weighed in at 11st 4lb, which is a loss of 2lb. I'm very pleased with that as, to be honest, I didn't have any fixed idea of what I might lose. If I can keep losing a pound or two a week I'll be delighted.

Let's just keep going!
