Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Well I'm back up to 143.4lbs. which is a small increase of 0.4lbs. Not surprised really, just glad it's not worse.

Have to run out the door but hope everyone else did better than me!!

Bjarnum · 27/09/2021 10:13

turnofthescrew Blimey well done! poorpaws looks like you are back in the game - keep going. After the past week I am lucky there is not more damage! Everyone seems to be hanging in there

Well done to the losers and for those not doing quite so well, stay with us, we will all do this eventually.

Could’ve been a really bad start to the day as I’ve got to wait in for a parcel which I thought would be here early and it’s not coming until 12 so the dog walk is massively delayed. I’ve used the time wisely and done about an hour and a half housework so I’m quite pleased with myself because normally I would sit waiting drinking coffee.

Have a really good week everyone. I don’t think I’ve got much on this week so can hopefully concentrate on losing some pounds.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 27/09/2021 17:37

Oh yes I’m going for it today! 2hr 15 min slow dog walk
1 to 1 1/2 hours light housework
Exercise dvd (easy one) 8 min warmup and 18 min aerobic (don’t be too impressed it’s not a very strenuous aerobic workout).
I’ve done 15,000 steps.

Could I ask our members whose target weight is 10 stones, how tall are you? If you can remember my original goal was 9st anything but friends and family think it’s too low so I’ve changed it to10st. I’m 5ft 4 but old so they are worried I will look ancient if I lose too much (thanks family 🥴).

Have a really good week everyone.

Ugh, had a busy long day and reached for crappy food far too often. Damn you chocolate biscuits!

Well done poorpaws on the exercise, I always say something is better than nothing so your aerobic workout sounds great.
Was it a step class? I think we should all dress head to toe in spandex with our headbands and workout with jane fonda Grin

I'm still kind of aiming for 10 stones, although these days I'm just trying desperately to maintain! I'm 5 foot 6. It's so hard to tell what weight would suits someone best, because body composition is so different.
I carry most of my weight on my hips and thighs (classic pear shape) but other than that the rest of me is fairly slim. I'd have to lose a lot of weight for my thighs to look quite slim, but then the rest of me would look completely gaunt and ridiculous! Annoying.

poorpaws · 27/09/2021 21:40

@CreepingDeath I used to be a pear (well a very thin pear) but with age I’ve turned into an apple 😀 (I’m giggling to myself because if someone reads this out of context they’ll think I’ve lost the plot). So you are quite a bit taller than me so maybe I need to go under 10 st. This of course is all fiction because I’m struggling to even get to 11 st.

The exercise I do is a very old Rosemary Connery dvd. I’ve had it for years but it’s in pristine condition (says it all). It’s quite gentle and is mainly just stepping to different sides and flapping your arms a bit 🥴. My Fitbit said I’d burned 164 calories but it’s better than nothing. I missed the end bit cos that’s toning and I’m leaving that until I’m fitter. (I used to have brilliant balance but with this weight on I just wobble all over the place). I bought a Jane Fonda workout years ago, tried it once and sent it to the charity shop (I do fancy the headband though and leg warmers too).

OP posts:
poorpaws · 27/09/2021 21:53

Ha not sure who R Connery is 😳

OP posts:
professionalcockney · 27/09/2021 22:24

I'm 5ft 5 and aiming for 10 stone. I used to be a pear shape but now I'm an apple shape - I'm not used to having a stomach 😭

@poorpaws I was 5ft 4in! Now I'm 5ft 2in. In my youth I could wear a bikini at 9st. I think 10 st will be right for me, but it's been so long since I weighed that it's hard to be sure. Will revise when I get there. At the rate I'm going that will be when I'm about 120 ...

poorpaws · 28/09/2021 12:57

@Bjarnum you’ve made me think. Maybe I’m not 5ft 4 now! I always was but I haven’t had my height measured in years, as far as I know I could be 4ft something 🤦‍♀️

You’ll get there sooner than you think, we’re all here to support you (although I admit our numbers have dwindled). Stay positive.

I’m just back from a very wet dog walk but was determined to get my 10k steps. Food shopping tonight (hate food shopping) so that should be more steps.

Keep up the good work everyone.

I’ve been invited out for lunch on Sunday and all I could think of was “I’ll have to EAT”. Since this is my big week for trying hard I will try to do damage limitation but it’s the day before weigh in! I think the forces of evil are against me and I didn’t like to say no because I might not get invited again.

How are you all doing? I’m still really going for it this week although water consumption and dvd workout are poor (DP is putting a new aerial up and he was short of a part so I had no tv yesterday so I couldn’t work out, I did do my 15,000 steps though, just!)

Keep on trying and we’ll all see good results on Monday. I’m going to beat all of you with weight loss though 🤞🏻😳

professionalcockney · 29/09/2021 09:17

Where is the meal @poorpaws? Can you get the menu beforehand and see if you can see anything that fits in with your diet? Maybe order something with salad / veg instead of chips? There are ways...

I'm here but haven't been well past 2 days so haven't left the house. Food has been good but no exercise. Feeling better today so going for a walk after I've done some work this morning.

poorpaws · 29/09/2021 10:02

@professionalcockney i’m sorry to hear that you haven’t been feeling well, it’s impossible to diet if you’re ill. I’m glad you’re on the mend and enjoy your walk.

I don’t think the venue has been decided on yet, nothing is been booked. Most of the places we go to we’ve been to before and I’m okay with damage limitation apart from desserts which are my downfall. I’ll choose chicken or fish, won’t have a starter, diet Coke instead of a glass of wine. As you said probably salad instead of chips but everywhere we go I love the desserts 🤦‍♀️That’s my problem but I think if I cut down on everything else I should be allowed a dessert.

It’s not easy here to find places open on a Sunday so I’m wondering if my friends even thought about that. I hope we don’t end up at McDonald’s or I’m screwed 😁

OP posts:
poorpaws · 29/09/2021 15:11

@professionalcockney so the meal is now booked for Sunday and it’s one of my favourite places. Not only do they have an extensive menu but added dishes of the day/week etc. I’m really looking forward to it now as I know I can keep it fairly healthy but it will be lovely (never had a poor meal there).

So how are you all doing? I hope it’s quiet on here because you’re all busy not because you're failing 😀

OP posts:
CreepingDeath · 29/09/2021 16:49

Haha, Rosemary Connery, I'm just hearing her with a Scottish accent now Grin.

Unfortunately, I am definitely failing this week. I haven't dared get on the scales, but apart from more walking haven't done any exercise yet, as I hurt my neck and didn't want to strain it anymore. Hopefully it will feel better tomorrow and I'll do a workout. Have also been more busy than usual and just reached for the crap food. Story of my life!

It feels more wintery here, so I'm entering hibernation mode (which I love) but it means less healthy salad, and more warm and filling stodge. Gonna have to keep an eye on it.

Dinner on Sunday sounds great, something nice to look forward to. I'm glad you're feeling better professional.

professionalcockney · 29/09/2021 19:36

@poorpaws you could also cut back 100 cals per day from now until your meal out so you have a buffer - I heard that on a podcast today 😃

I'm here and doing well. Did a 10K walk earlier and have stuck to calories. Still can't give up crisps though...

poorpaws · 29/09/2021 21:02

@CreepingDeath all I could hear was Sean Connery’s voice, I loved his voice. Sorry to hear you’ve hurt your neck, that can be so painful I know. I hope it’s better by tomorrow. I have to admit if I’m busy I eat junk too, that’s why this week I’m not doing much on purpose apart from lots of steps. You’ll probably be fine next week if you’re not so busy and will be able to make up [?]. I live on homemade parsnip soup in autumn/winter but unlike you I hate hibernation mode, I love sunny evenings.

@professionalcockney cutting calories is such a good idea but I’m on very few calories this week anyway. I’m so determined to lose a decent chunk of weight this week, I’m really focused. The restaurant does a very nice dessert (similar to a pavlova) with small meringue nests, strawberries, topped with cream and a drizzle of chocolate. I ask them to replace the cream with a scoop of ice cream and it’s not too many calories. Meringue, although made of sugar, is quite light and a good choice I find (well much better than a huge piece of chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and a ton of cream, which is what I really want).

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/09/2021 22:38

Hi all - 1lb lost here this week. Frankly it would probably have been a gain if I hadn't run around like a mad thing on Sunday doing loads of cleaning Grin I did go to my social occasion but couldn't make myself go to the whole thing - my social anxiety flared right up - it was lots of friends who I don't see often and dearly love to talk to, but faced with a big group of people I just wanted to run home and hide. I had to make my excuses and go home to clean like a tubby, middle aged Cinderella...

Congratulations on your anniversary @Bjarnum! Shame about the food prep!

Well done on your 3lb loss @TheTurn0fTheScrew and your maintaining @MegBusset, great news Smile

I used to have an aerobics teacher who did the whole Jane Fonda thing @CreepingDeath - she was such a lovely lady (my teacher - JF may well be, but I wouldn't know!) - leotard, American tan tights, headband etc. I'd love to know if she's moved with the times!

Many years ago I went to Rosemary Conley classes @poorpaws, they seemed much better value than WW/ SW! I know what you mean about the exercise, just walking doesn't seem to help at all with my weight loss Sad when the DC were toddlers I'd often do 20K steps with them every day and still put on weight although to be fair I did also eat too much cake. That must have been tough with your DM & DF being too busy to spend much time with you as a child? I found it really hard when my second sibling came along (I was 12) and suddenly there was zero time, money or energy for me.

Unfortunately I have joined the lurgy crew with @professionalcockney and am full of a cold: sniffles, sore throat etc. And AF has arrived early to join the party, marvellous. I am mainly living off hot chocolate which doesn't bode well for this week's weight loss plans!

SW: 14st
CW: 12st 2lb
TW: 10st 6lb

I'm 5ft 5 poorpaws and technically my target weight is at the top end of the range for my height. I know I felt and looked good at that though and it would probably be very difficult for me to get much lower!

poorpaws · 30/09/2021 18:36

Oh my dear lord I’m struggling tonight. It’s been raining all day, it’s cold and I’m just not feeling in the diet zone at all.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl sorry you are feeling rotten, I hope you pick up very soon. Well done on the loss, if we could just lose a pound every week we’d have this in the bag in no time.

I also went to Rosemary Conley classes and did very well with her but I was 9 st at the time and wanted to be 8 st 🥴 that will never happen now. I also remember going to the gym in black leggings, black leotard with a thin pink bit of piping and pink leg warmers. I thought I looked good, I didn't.

Social anxiety is such a difficult one to deal with. I’m no good with crowds, I retreat to the kitchen. I’m much better one-to-one but to be honest I’m a bit of a loner. I love the stillness of being alone and never feel lonely, a social butterfly I most certainly am not.

I’ve bought some trainers to do the old dvd in and they arrived today. They’re very comfy but a bit big and they are lilac! I’m sick of black and navy and I doubt anyone will see them but I quite like them. I have no excuse now.

I hope everyone is staying on track, it’s so difficult as it gets colder. I was going to do some cleaning but I’ll probably sit here all evening until bed time 😳

I like the trainers!

I've not had the best couple of days so I am drawing a line now _ ready for the weekend!

poorpaws · 02/10/2021 08:00

All going well here. I have definitely lost some weight this week but not nearly as much as I should have for the work/effort I’ve put in. It’s going to be a long hard slog to the end of this but I’m still on the wagon and determined to do it.

Not long now until weigh day so have a good weekend everyone and try your best.

OP posts:
CreepingDeath · 02/10/2021 11:54

Love the trainers poorpaws purple is my favourite colour. You seem to be doing really well this week.

So, the sore neck of a few days ago turned into a sore throat, which has turned into a cold. I'm like Clara and professional having a bad time of it. The up side is I haven't eaten as much, but because I've no energy, I haven't worked out either. I'm also due my period next week (goody Angry) so I'm just going to try and get through the next week or so without putting on too much, and then hopefully get back in the swing of things.

Hope everyone is doing better than me.

professionalcockney · 02/10/2021 20:36

Quick pop into keep me on track. Have had a good day today.

Weekends are hard everyone but stick to it, we can do it 💪
