Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

poorpaws · 06/06/2021 20:22

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

I'm about to go to sleep. Have had vodka and munched on some Doritos. Feeling so much better than the previous few nights when I've gone to bed feeling sick and bloated!

poorpaws · 30/08/2021 08:06

Good morning all on this bright and sunshiny bank holiday Monday. That’s as good as the news gets!

SW: 12st 2.3/4
CW: 11st 5.1/4
Mini goal 11st 3
(Mini goal up today and not met ☹️)
Gain today: 1/2 lb
GW: 9st anything or 10st which now seems years away.

So this is the second gain in a row, I have to sort myself out starting tomorrow. My problem is I’m getting bored with the diet and I’m not eating enough variety of food so I feel hungry and grumpy. I’m going to have a look round the supermarket tomorrow and see if I can find something slimming but tempting.

My neighbour has promised me a home-made apple and rhubarb pie today So I’ll give my partner a huge portion and I’ll have a very small taste in the hope that I won’t gain again next week.

Good luck to everyone today, I fear there could be a few gains just because it’s that time in the diet when it gets very boring and monotonous. Fingers crossed for everyone to have a good weigh in.

@professionalcockney I know exactly what you mean about the bloating. I ate too much last night (fully aware that it was weigh day this morning) and I felt awful. I hate that bloated feeling and it’s almost worse than hunger pains. I’m going to try to remember that horrible feeling so I don’t repeat it tonight. So pleased to have you onboard with us and I hope you enjoy your holiday without the bloat.

Well, on the upside I have managed to get off most of the weight I put on whilst family was here! Right now I'm concentrating on not just throwing in the towel. I don't like eggs, curry or porridge - anyone with some suggestions for a low calorie high protein meal? Getting sick of fish ...

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 30/08/2021 09:19

I have plateaued again, which is disappointing but I’m also relieved. Can’t believe I didn’t even lose a few ounces, maybe my scales are stuck!

Anyway, I know what you mean about diet poorpaws, I got bored with calorie counting, plus there are more socialising opportunities these days, which for me means food! Will have to get back to salads etc. which is harder now the weather is getting colder.

If anyone has some nice recipes for delicious veggie winter meals, I’d be happy for some inspiration! I love Autumn/ Winter, but mostly for the comforting food and opportunity to hibernate Blush.

Anyway, we’re still here, which is a good thing. Hope everyone else does ok this week.

SW: 10st 11.8 lbs
CW: 10st 3.6 lbs
GW: 9st 7 lbs

I'm still here :) although I'm close to my goal weight, I find maintaining harder than losing so will stick around as long as the thread keeps going!

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 1.2lb
GW: 9st

This week's challenge will be two meals out - will aim to stick to fish and veg as much as possible!

Thank you @poorpaws! Your start weight is the same as mine - you've done so well to nearly get into the 10 stone bracket! One good week and you could get there I'm sure of it! I could've been there too considering I've been 'on a diet' all year, I just haven't stuck to it 🙄

Had an omelette for breakfast 🍳🍳

How about -

Stir fry
Roast Chicken breast with mixed veg or salad
Veg omelette / frittata without the potatoes
Halloumi and chorizo salad

??

MegBusset · 30/08/2021 10:17

I'm veggie, here are some of my favourite winter meals:

Sausage and bean stew
Roast veg and sausages
Sausage, mash and beans
Veg curry
Veg chilli
Linda McCartney pie and veg

Hi. Just read the whole thread to motivate myself. Would you mind if I join a little late. PoorPaws my starting weight is similar to what yours was so am motivated to copy you!
SW - 12 st 4

Mini goal of under 11 stone for my daughters birthday in November.

I am doing intermittent fasting so no eating between 8pm and midday and also low carb. I'm veggie so rely heavily on carbs for food. After just a few days I've noticed less bloating and jeans fit a little more comfortably. (They were pretty tight before)😅
Hopefully this will help to keep me motivated as I usually give up on week 3-4.

poorpaws · 30/08/2021 21:37

Hi and welcome @CherryBlossom100 lovely to have you here. I feel very honoured that I have motivated you but I don’t feel worthy atm because I’m struggling (but absolutely determined to do this). Don’t give up this time, stick with us.

So does anyone fancy another mini goal by the end of October. Since I didn’t meet my goal today I thought I would have another go for two months time. Anyone want to join me? Same rules as before, choose your own mini goal and do your best to get there by the end of October, no pressure.

I’ve tried really hard today despite my lovely neighbour bringing round four huge pieces of apple and rhubarb pie! I did a long dog walk this morning and then some planting in the garden and then did another hours dog walk tonight to stop me snacking all evening. I’ve done 19,711 steps which I’m very pleased about.

Well done to all losers and maintainers today, you did much better than I did but I promised I will try harder.

Evening check in. Good day eating lightly and then a Chinese meal in a restaurant tonight. Not strictly 100% low carb but also no bloating / over eating / uncomfortable feeling. Also no booze today.

We have decided today to have a no meals out / takeaways in September. That should save some money after a very expensive August!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 31/08/2021 09:34

Morning all. Congratulations to those losing and maintaining. It's inspiring to hear from others in the same boats, and that this weight loss business can be done!

Am back from holiday and ready to confess my sins: a 2lb gain. Which is understandable. I've had a full english breakfast every day since Friday, on top of all the usual holiday goodies.

So today I am not at mini goal weight (11st 13), but I have reached that weight twice over the summer. So a partial win Grin.

my weight loss has tended to be slow, about a pound every second week, so I will aim for a 5lb loss by the end of October. I hope this is achievable but noticeable.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 31/08/2021 16:01

Checking in to report a massive 1lb loss for the whole of August. Gahhhhh. Better than a gain I suppose although I was hoping for better after avoiding all the ice cream on holiday

Today was supposed to be a peaceful and easy day before back to school but DS1 has been utter hell; he's borderline ASD but is (in general) much easier than he used to be, just off days here and there. However he woke up this morning being a complete pain and has just got worse, kicking, throwing things, hitting etc. He's already had me in tears Sad roll on school days...

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 31/08/2021 17:25

Thanks for the food recommendations professionalcockney and MegBusset, I have found a few veg chilli recipes online I will try out. and have to get off my arse and make some soups to stock up the freezer.

I don't usually like stuff thats pretending to be meat, it's kinda freaks me out, but I need to up my one pot veggie repertoire. Had Spanish tortilla with side salad for dinner last night, was delish!

Clara I just looked back over my weigh-ins for August and it went like this:
143.6
145
143.6
143.6
143.6
BlushHmm

So no real progress there at all. I was hoping to have reached my goal by now so I could focus on maintaining for Autumn/Winter, considering I plan to hibernate with hot chocolate and hot whiskies for most of it!

Anyway, I'm sorry you're having a difficult time with your son, hopefully when he gets back into the school routine it will be better.

My mini goal for the end of October is to be under 140 lbs, fingers crossed.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 31/08/2021 22:27

@Mulletsaremisunderstood we obviously had a very similar August Grin

Today has been rubbish food-wise, no surprise there with DS1 being so relentlessly bloody awful. I could literally do nothing without him flying into a temper tantrum/ shrieking/ picking at DS2. And now he's finally asleep I'm regretting shouting at him, including completely losing it in the car earlier when he threw something at DS2 and I was so startled that I nearly crashed. 75% of the time he is very sweet, friendly, thoughtful, loving etc but the other 25%... Confused

Is anyone else doing the 'run 60 miles in September' challenge for Cancer Research UK? I've printed off my timetable but as yet haven't filled it in, thanks to a DS1-related headache!

professionalcockney · 01/09/2021 00:12

Evening check in. Low carb breakfast, shared some fries with DH as out all day and then a home cooked meal this evening as we leave tomorrow and had to use up the food in the fridge.

I'd be interested in the running challenge - can you post a picture of it?

professionalcockney · 01/09/2021 00:16

And sorry to hear you're having issues with your son @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl 😞

poorpaws · 01/09/2021 08:08

Good morning and happy September everyone

I’ve been thinking long and hard about my mini goal and I think it has to be 11 stones by the end of October, that would be 5.1/4 lbs off. It sounds very doable in two months and I ought to do a lot better than that but I’m very aware that like some of us here I am struggling.

I’ve tried hard for the last two days but seem to have reached some awful plateau where I can’t shift anything ☹️ I think I would normally have given up before now but I so want to shift this weight this time. I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror (by mistake, I didn’t mean to) and I still look horrendous around the middle. I would’ve thought by now I’d have looked a little bit better than I do. I am not giving in though, not this time, no !

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl won’t be long now before it’s time for school 😀 (and the tourists have left here, can’t wait for that one). I haven’t seen the beach for months and it’s only at the bottom of the road and I can’t wait to see what Tilly thinks of the sea.

@professionalcockney the running challenge is at CR UK but it directs you to their Facebook page; if you join their Facebook group you can find a timetable to customise (and more details) there. I couldn't find a photo with it all on!

Happy September @poorpaws (and everyone else!) - AF arrived unexpectedly early yesterday, just to add to a horrific day Confused so between that and DS1's behaviour there was plenty of chocolate eaten! My half term goal is to make it to 11st 7lb. That's 8lb away in 7 weeks - some serious planning needs to be done...!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/09/2021 09:54

@professionalcockney don't think my clicky link worked - try www.cancerresearchuk.org/get-involved/find-an-event/run-60-challenge#FAQ_run60challenge5 - posting from my phone doesn't always work too well!

poorpaws · 01/09/2021 15:12

Blimey @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl that’s quite an impressive goal in a short time. I hope you do it but you are more brave than I am. I KNOW I’d never do it. Good luck. It makes my goal look a bit insipid 😳
