Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

poorpaws · 06/06/2021 20:22

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Morning everyone

I thought I’d just check in to see how everyone is. How are you all doing? It’s all getting a bit difficult now after all this time and I think we’re getting bored with this dieting business 😀

Have a good Wednesday everyone. I’m off for a long walk.

OP posts:
Mulletsaremisunderstood · 18/08/2021 12:11

I hope your walk goes well poorpaws. You're right this is the boring bit, after the initial enthusiasm. I did another workout yesterday, but my energy levels are not what they were a few weeks ago, so it's harder to push myself.

Anyway something is better than nothing. Also it's my birthday this week so lots of cake and snack will be involved. So, I'm just hoping to maintain.

Is anyone else worried about long term maintaining once you get to your goal? That worries me more than actually reaching my goal (which I'm not that far off). I feel like i'll just give up totally and then only get back on the horse once I've gained weight again. I'm almost resisting reaching it because then I will have nothing to motivate me - It's a mindfuck really.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 18/08/2021 17:00

hello folks. Food's been average for me this week, but I've been super busy with work so no exercise apart from Monday. Like none. Driving to work, sitting at a screen, driving home.

I am still a looooong way from my goal, and losing only slowly. A stone still to go and losing at the rate of a pound every other week at the moment. So how to maintain the loss is very far from my thoughts! At this rate I'll still be here on the thread in 2022 Grin.

poorpaws · 20/08/2021 07:43

Good morning everyone (wherever you are)

I guess most of us are struggling at the moment! I keep trying so hard but fail in the evenings. I’ve got a meal out on Saturday at my favourite restaurant. I’ll try damage limitation but I fear I’ll gain this week.

I hope everyone is muddling along successfully 😀

OP posts:
TheTurn0fTheScrew · 20/08/2021 09:10

well, I thought I was doing ok until I had a little extra-mural hop on the scales this morning. 2lb up! From Monday! I am going to have to eat nothing all weekend just to maintain (not gonna happen). I'm post hysterectomy as well so can't even blame my cycle Grin.

poorpaws · 20/08/2021 22:10

@TheTurn0fTheScrew I think I might be 2 lbs up too. I’ve not actually got on the scales because I daren’t. I’ve had the evening from hell food wise, I’ve just been so hungry all night so I’ve eaten far too much and just before my meal out tomorrow as well. Maybe we’ll be seeing who can gain the most in the shortest time 😁 Not really ideal for slimming thread!

Just checking in after a holiday - feeling tired and bloated really, frankly exhausted with having to look after/ entertain the DC constantly!! I miss their holiday clubs Grin

Unfortunately we have to go away again almost immediately as DP's DGM is very ill, she's in hospital (but not allowed any visitors sadly) and we're going to stay nearer her for a few days. Luckily DP's work is quite quiet at the moment and he can take an extra few days off; it's not ideal from a financial point of view but obviously DGM is the priority at the moment.

@MegBusset I'm in awe of your walking... I was doing maybe 12 - 15K steps per day but nothing compared to yours!!

Never thought I'd say this but I can't wait to get back to my exercise routine. Also can't wait to not have to work round DP's constant "oooh I'm a bit tired/ have a bad back/ not used to this" when asked to do pretty much any walking. Not long till the new school term and hopefully back into my healthy eating and weight loss plan!

PS @poorpaws your doggy is beautiful Smile

poorpaws · 23/08/2021 07:57

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl so sorry to hear about your DP’s DGM and I hope everything turns out well. Again I’ve got the opposite DP to you, mine races ahead and I’m huffing and puffing behind trying to keep up and yelling “wait for meeee ...” 😕

So I’m a quarter of a pound up this morning, it could have been worse I suppose but I hate a gain. I fear I’ll miss my mini goal by a couple of pounds unless I can really get my act together this week. I have to admit I’m struggling atm. I still have a great ambition to lose this weight but finding it so very hard and laborious.

I hope everyone is doing well and we have some good losses. it’s gone very quiet here, I wonder if we are all struggling and bored with limited snacking and healthy eating.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 23/08/2021 08:09

morning all.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl sorry to hear about your DP's grandmother. It's great that you're able to go to her - everything else can wait for now.

poorpaws that's a such tiny increase. I know up is always hard, but 1/4 lb is so tiny.

I've gained as well, a pound. Grr. I hope this will motivate me to focus at least until friday. We've away over the bank holiday weekend and as ever it will be food based. I'll weigh in before I go, and when I get back.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 23/08/2021 10:29

Morning everyone,

Clara I'm sorry your holiday wasn't as relaxed as expected, and hopefully your DP's granny makes a good recovery.
Sorry to hear about the gains this week, but it's only small for both of you, hopefully it's easily lost again next week. I managed to maintain this week, which is weird as I definitely felt like I would gain something.

I know what you mean poorpaws about waning enthusiasm. I can't seem to get back that initial burst of energy to get into a routine. Also, because I have lost a few pounds and have noticed a bit of change in my shape, I think I'm just coasting along.
Anyway, hopefully this week I will get my mojo back (think I have said that for about 3 weeks!).

SW: 10st 11.8lbs
CW: 10st 3.6lbs
GW: 9st 7lbs

poorpaws · 23/08/2021 13:23

So we’ve got two gains and a maintain 🥴 blimey we aren’t very good are we 😂

OP posts:
MegBusset · 23/08/2021 14:05

Hello to everyone and Flowers to those who are struggling for whatever reason. If it was easy I guess we wouldn't need to have a Mumsnet thread about it!

I have got a loss this week and slowly inching towards my goal.

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 2.2lb
GW: 9st

That's a stone off since the start of the thread. This has definitely helped me to stay on track and accountable - though I'm in no doubt that the number one factor in my loss has been stopping drinking alcohol.

Bjarnum · 23/08/2021 19:16

Dammit-I just can't diet when I have guests and I have guests all this week and have already put 3 lbs on. (Hangs head in shame)

poorpaws · 23/08/2021 20:31

@MegBusset. Very well done you, our only loser 🎖and you are about done with this dieting 👏 I hope you stay with us when you are maintaining.

@Bjarnum don’t hang your head, we all find it hard with guests. Just enjoy this week and you can start again next week. Most of us are struggling I think.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood I didn’t mention your week sorry. It’s very good to maintain at his stage of the boring dieting game so well done. 😀

So this evening I’ve decided to try and tackle my evening snacking. I made dinner a little bit later and did some housework and then was about to sit down and knew I would eat so I took the dogs out for over an hour (they were delighted) and I’ve just got back. I’ve now done over 17,000 steps and kept away from the fridge, win win! It’s just a case of if I can manage it for the whole week but it seems my snacking is just habit rather than hunger.

It’s the mini goal target next week, how are you all doing with that? I’m 1.3/4 lbs off target so I doubt I’ll do it but when I set the target I felt it was a bit difficult to achieve so I’ll hope for a pound of this week and I’ll be happy with at least getting near to it.

Stay positive everyone, we all know it’s difficult but hang on in there, it will be worth it.

OP posts:
Mulletsaremisunderstood · 25/08/2021 18:51

Well my mini goal was to be 140 lbs by my birthday, which didn't happen unfortunately. But I'm only a few pounds off. Would like to be 140 or below by mid September, which would just about fit what I have managed so far which averages out about 1/2 pound a week.

I managed to do a workout today and went for a 10k walk yesterday so I'm keeping on top of exercise, but my food is still sketchy. Too much ice cream and yummy stuff!

Hope everyone else is doing well. It's mid-week, still time to pull it out of the bag by Monday.

poorpaws · 25/08/2021 19:22

@Mulletsaremisunderstood nearly making your goal is still an achievement so well done and happy birthday (I’d love a summer birthday).

I thought I would really really try this week but we’ve been out today and of course there was lunch. I tried damage limitation yet again and was the only one who didn’t have an ice cream but even so I ate a lot of bread and I’ve come home now and I’m starving! The more I eat the more I need to eat.

I noticed today just how big my eldest dog is getting too so we are both starting the diet tomorrow.🥴

i hope everyone is doing well.

We are finally home. I'm exhausted. Will check in again soon but just wanted to see how everyone's doing! @poorpaws @MegBusset @Bjarnum @Mulletsaremisunderstood @TheTurn0fTheScrew

poorpaws · 28/08/2021 21:46

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl pleased you’re back safe and sound. I hope DPs granny is ok. Have Sunday and Monday off to relax and we’ll start afresh on Tuesday. Nearly everyone has deserted us now, I've been dreading this thread coming to a full stop but it’s looking likely. I’m really, really struggling now but want to keep going if I can.

Hopefully people will come back soon 🤞🏻

OP posts:
professionalcockney · 28/08/2021 22:24

I will join. I've gained a stone due to lockdown and some personal trauma, and it will be more if I don't stop. Need to lose two stone in total. Am currently on holiday in Cornwall but sick of food already. We're self catering so can control the food to some extent.

Low carb from tomorrow. I am craving salad!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/08/2021 14:52

Quick check in - I'm away with crappy WiFi. I am firmly NOT sticking to my diet. Not back til late Mon evening so will reveal the full horror if my post holiday weigh in on Tuesday.

After Tuesday I have no more holidays so will be back in track. I have a couple of meals out booked, but TBH that's often the case, and one-offs are easier to mitigate against across the rest of the week.

I hope everyone is feeling well and ready for weigh in tomorrow - good luck!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 29/08/2021 15:30

I'm still here....just about Grin. I hope your holiday goes well Turn you're right to enjoy it and get back on the horse when you come back. Feel like I've gotten back into bad eating habits the last few weeks, even though I'm exercising regularly I realise it's not enough on it's own. I guess you can't out-exercise a bad diet after all.

Anyway this week was up and down as usual, did a few strength workouts and went for walks etc. but then went to a bbq yesterday and stuffed my face Blush, and meeting a friend for a walk along the pier tonight which means chips at the very least. Oh well.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow everyone!

poorpaws · 29/08/2021 17:05

No amount of crossed fingers is going to help me this week I’m afraid. I’ll try to get back into it after Monday 😕 I so wish my neighbour wasn’t such a brilliant cook and didn’t keep bringing me exquisite food to try out.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 29/08/2021 18:11

@professionalcockney welcome and enjoy your holiday. When you are back home you can join us and enjoy healthy food (sometimes 😳).

OP posts:
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/08/2021 18:46

Not our neighbour but MIL is a 'feeder' @poorpaws!! She's very kind and has such good intentions but is constantly offering crisps, biscuits, cake etc...

@TheTurn0fTheScrew enjoy the rest of your holidays! Mine were mainly spent eating chips and anything chip-related to appease grumpy, fussy DC Hmm I can't wait to eat something with a bit of taste/ spice again!

It's tricky when you get out of a routine @Mulletsaremisunderstood. Sadly I'm quite missing mine and am looking forward to running/ Shredding/ general exercise again! Also I find that when I don't have that to work towards, I end up eating rubbish, which makes me feel worse, and so on Sad

DP's DGM seems better thank you, well, she's out of hospital and the doctors couldn't find anything definitely wrong, which we're hoping is good news?! She has various long term health issues so perhaps it was a combination of those. However we spent days sleeping on very uncomfortable beds and trying to keep the DC from getting too bored, it wasn't the most exciting time and now I'm full of aches and pains. I'm going to a friend's wedding tomorrow and actually am really apprehensive - that probably sounds really sad but my social life is limited to the occasional coffee with one friend, meeting up with a crowd of people is just not something I do any more. Pre-DC I went to loads of weddings and generally had a good time, but since having them I don't get the opportunity to go anywhere, DP has always been completely rubbish about looking after them (had I known this before then I wouldn't have had them!). I'm glad I've lost a bit of weight though Grin

I think the thread will pick up again once the schools go back poorpaws, most people are counting the days! And welcome to @professionalcockney, I still have two stone to go as well or possibly more once I've been brave enough to weigh in

professionalcockney · 29/08/2021 19:13

Thank you for the welcome everyone. I'm trying as much as I can whilst being away also balancing it with enjoying myself and will be back to it properly when we're back from holiday.

I have stuck to low carb today apart from one new potato as the restaurant said they were local so wanted to try them - they just tasted like a bog standard potato to me 🤣

I also ate 1 dark chocolate from the local chocolatier.

I am feeling less bloated, and I know I feel so much better when I eat this way.

I'm having a couple of vodkas this evening 😀
