Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Exactly FunnyWonder, you're still here! We're all still here, showing up, trying our best, even if we have bad days or bad weeks, we still keep trying and don't give up.

That's all we can do.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday. I'm trying to stay active even though the weather is crap and I'm tired this week. The weigh in looming always sharpens my focus a bit.

poorpaws · 01/08/2021 13:53

I have been doing so very well until last night! It was all a bit of a disaster, I was so hungry all evening. I didn’t binge like I used to before but I most certainly ate more than I should and just before weigh-in too

I am hoping I did so well earlier on in the week that I haven’t ruined everything in just one evening.

NSV yesterday though. I met someone I hadn’t seen for 2-3 months and her exact words were “you’ve dropped some weight”. She’s the first to notice; result!

I hope you are all doing ok today ready for tomorrow’s weight reveal. There will only be a few of us though as three members (I think) are on holiday.

Good luck for tomorrow morning everyone.

Hello all!

I'm back from holiday. I had a fabulous time and didn't watch what I ate at all... There's something about camping that makes me super hungry all the time! And I'm not prepared to be miserable and hungry on holiday.

There is no way I won't have put on weight this week. I'm back on it tomorrow... Then away again next week... Oops! But I have still stayed off the booze and I'm sure in a couple of weeks I'll be back on track. Thankfully my shingles is much better so hoping to get out running this week too.

Well done @poorpaws on your NSV and keep going everyone!

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/08/2021 07:36

Good luck y'all for your weigh ins. No scales here. I plead the fifth on holiday food intake. I am hoping to climb a mountain today so that will burn off at least one or two of the endless snacks. MegBusset I hope you haven't gained, but if you have I'm sure I'll be joining you on the holiday naughty step. Will look forward to everyone's updates.

poorpaws · 02/08/2021 07:59

@MegBusset and @TheTurn0fTheScrew you are most definitely allowed to eat all you want to on holiday, it’s the law! There is no way you can spoil the holiday by eating sensibly, it’s just not on. You will make it up in a few weeks anyway. We all agreed this will be a slow process as some of us have quite a lot to lose (I appreciate that is not all of us).

Anyway I’m so pleased you enjoyed your holiday Meg and @TheTurnOfTheScrew enjoy yours and we’ll support you if there’s a bit of a glitch.

SW: 12st 2.3/4 lbs
CW: 11st 6.1/2 lbs
Mini goal: 11st 3 lbs
GW: 9st anything or 10st at a push

That mini goal date is getting far too close for comfort. So I’m down one pound this week. It would have been a lot more if I hadn’t pigged out the last two nights . I was on track for losing two pounds or more this week but I really have got to sort out my evenings when I get bored and hungry.

I didn’t go nearly as mad on my binge as I used to before this thread started but it’s still bad enough to stop a really good loss. I think when it’s quite warm I’m happy to take the dogs in the evening for a stroll round the lakes which is lovely but it’s been quite cold the last two nights and Ive felt tired and I just find an excuse to eat.

I know it’s still one pound gone but I feel quite deflated this morning.

Good luck for the weigh-in everyone.

@poorpaws well done on your loss - 1lb off is great - slow and steady wins the race!

By some miracle I have managed to basically maintain which I'm very happy with considering how much I troughed last week. I did do lots of walking and playing with the DC so I guess that helped with damage limitation.

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 4.6lb
GW: 9st

No weigh-in for me next week so I'll see you all in a couple of weeks.

poorpaws · 02/08/2021 08:41

@MegBusset that’s great news. You are so so near the end now you don’t need to worry about a pound or two anyway but to maintain on holiday is awesome, well done. I’d like a miracle too 😉

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/08/2021 10:22

Very jealous of everyone on holidays. Hope you had/ are having a lovely time. Well done poorpaws every pound counts.

Ok, so I had to wait until my housemate was out of the shower until I got access to the scales. Down 3 pounds this week! Can't really believe it. The last few weeks were a bit up and down, so really happy.

SW: 10st 11.8lbs
CW: 10st 3.6lbs
GW: 9st 7lbs

I managed to workout a few times towards the end of last week even though I didn't want to which I think helped. The looming weigh in helps get me off my arse.

I definitely noticed some physical changes in the last week or so, some definition in my legs, so I think I'm managing to finally build some muscle thanks to those dreaded squats.

VenusStarr · 02/08/2021 11:53

Hello! Sorry for the late check in. I've maintained again (still 4lbs down). I was expecting a gain to be honest, so quite pleased.

When I joined I shared that I'm doing fertility treatment and I'm in the middle of a cycle, so on extra hormones and I'm adding in steroids this week 😬 the hormones are making me hungry. I'm still monitoring my calorie intake but had a rough week with little exercise and struggling to feel like I wanted the healthier options.

So I'm still here and still determined to lose weight but trying not to be hard on myself.

Well done on the losses ☺️

poorpaws · 02/08/2021 16:13

@Mulletsaremisunderstood wow! That is an amazing loss, well done just doesn't cover it. I need your help because you obviously hold the secret to great weight loss. Very well done and I’d be chuffed to bits if I were you. 🌟🎖

@VenusStarr. You are totally right to not be hard on yourself and I’m so pleased you are still here. Life must be difficult for you and to maintain with all that’s going on is a near miracle. Sending you a big virtual hug.

So only four weigh ins today and two absentees on holiday. I think there are normally eight of us. Perhaps someone will weigh in tomorrow. I think we are doing ok. Only 20 weeks to Christmas 🥴 I wonder if we’ll still be here. Well I will be because the Happy Scales tell me at 1 lb a week I’ll reach goal on 7 January 2022, oh my that sounds harsh.

OP posts:
FunnyWonder · 03/08/2021 07:34

Checking in a day late. I forgot to weigh myself before breakfast yesterday and decided to leave it until today, as I was already a bit down about going off the rails, without adding to the possible extra poundage by weighing myself after eating. So, today I'm STILL 11st 1lb for the third week in a row. But I'm very very pleased as I genuinely believed I would have gained. And yesterday wasn't great as we were out with friends and I ate chips and cake (lemon drizzle - I mean come on, it had to be doneGrin) and crisps. So definitely expected a gain!!

Well done @poorpaws on your pound. You deserve to be losing as you're putting the effort in.

Fantastic @Mulletsaremisunderstood that is amazing! I would be so happy if my scales moved down by 3lbs. Brilliant!

@VenusStarr you've a lot going on in your life and maintaining is really great.

@MegBusset maintaining after a holiday is no mean feat! Sounds like you had a lovely time into the bargain. Really good.

So, heartened by the fact I haven't gained (maybe my scales are broken!) I'm off for a bit of a run before the world gets busy. I've been let off the hook this week, so I'm going to make more effort not to stress eat this week.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 03/08/2021 14:22

Well done on maintaining Funny and Venus.

Well, after yesterday morning's triumph I massively sabotaged my diet Blush, two slices of coffee cake, crisps etc. I just had an urge to scoff all day, and felt like I 'deserved' it because my weight was down, so annoying!

Anyway, back on track today, although I checked my weight this morning and its up over a pound already...stupid scales!

The only thing I can manage to be consistent on is weight training 3 times a week. It seems to be giving me good results. But my food is all over the place. I just hope it all doesn't go to shit this week.

poorpaws · 03/08/2021 16:10

Hi everyone

@FunnyWonder good job on maintaining and maybe next week there will be a loss, we’ll see 😇

@Mulletsaremisunderstood cake is my downfall (well one of my many downfalls) and I love coffee cake. I used to bake a lot before this thread and I just daren't because I know I wouldn’t be able to resist. You’re back on track so put all things cake-like behind you.

I had such a good day yesterday, ate healthily and did 18,000 steps (two long dog walks morning and evening, the dogs were delighted).

So today I’m shattered, honestly I can hardly put one foot in front of the other. I wonder if it’s because I need food. I’m eating at 5 and off to the supermarket at 7 so I need to find some energy.

I hope everyone is doing well. I have a day out tomorrow because the weather is supposed to be lovely. I shall TRY to resist ice cream 🍦

I hope you are all ok and keeping on track as well as we all can.

Good morning all

I hope you have a good Wednesday. I am off to the moors for the day this morning. They’ll be quite a lot of walking and lunch out will be my usual ham Ploughman‘s, that’s about the least calorie meal on the menu ( apart from the very light bites which are tiny and wouldn’t fill me).

I think we must all be at the boring part of the diet. It’s exciting at first and the thought of losing weight consumes us.
Now it’s a boring plod of a diet but I knew this would come and if I want to be thin I’ve got to get through it. I’m not even 1 stone down yet. ☹️

Do your best is the only message I can think to send, just try hard. 😁

OP posts:
Mulletsaremisunderstood · 04/08/2021 10:48

Agreed poorpaws it's keeping the motivation going that's the problem. I keep reminding myself that the key is consistency over time, so even if I have a bad day or two, just get back on the horse.
I guess slow and steady wins the race and all that. But it sure is boring sometimes!

I was just hoping that by this stage it would all become habit and it would be easier, I would learn to love my new healthy lifestyle. But I'm still quite resistant to it, and have to talk myself into keeping up the exercise. Which is bonkers because I'm always really happy once I've finished it!

I think I imagined I would morph into one of those really enthusiastic fit, happy, healthy people who are positively beaming at the idea of a a kale smoothie, like you see on tv (I'm not convinced those people really exist).
But the truth is I'm naturally quite lazy and like sweet treats. So maybe I'll always have to fight against that. Grrr!

Anyway, sorry for the rant - I'm off out for a long walk today before it rains later, I hope everyone has a good day.

poorpaws · 06/08/2021 15:54

Hi everyone

I’ve had a couple of days where I’ve really struggled. I’ve felt so hungry in the evenings I’ve just eaten most of the contents of the kitchen cupboards. Looks like it will be a gain for me on Monday unless I can knuckle down over the weekend.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood
I agree totally with what you say, I too thought I’d be in some sort of healthy eating habit by now but sadly I find it a curse to be overweight and trying to lose it, a curse and a very boring one at that. I looked in the mirror today (I should not have done that) and around my middle is so fat, so awful and fat. I honestly couldn’t tell I’d lost one pound never mind the 10 I’ve supposedly lost☹️ Am I destined to be fat for ever 😱

I hope you are all doing well (better than I am), I can see I’ll be here for a couple of years looking at myself today 😢

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 06/08/2021 20:46

hello all.
Just back from holiday. I ate all of Scotland. On the scales in the morning to assess the damage but I think it will be 4-5lb up. BUT it's a long game, right? And I am getting back on that horse!

poorpaws · 06/08/2021 21:47

@TheTurn0fTheScrew. Welcome back. It sounds as if you had a lovely time scoffing in Scotland and I am so impressed that you are assessing the damage so soon after your return. You’re right it’s the long game and we all have do as well as we are able.

I’ve done a little better this evening but fear the damage is already done for Monday. Perhaps I should pretend I’ve been on holiday (but I know I haven't).

OP posts:
TheTurn0fTheScrew · 07/08/2021 08:19

accountability check:
I am now 12st 0, so a pound heavier than before I went on holiday. That's fair, I'll take it. Expecting more of a gain, but we did do some serious walking including bagging a Munro. I'll still do my proper weigh in on Monday with you all. Here's to a good weekend for everyone. I hope the weather elsewhere is more conducive to exercise than it is here.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 08/08/2021 10:45

Just checking in as we are back from hols - very tired, a sky high pile of washing to do and sure I have eaten far too much rubbish - will catch up on everyone's posts soon!

poorpaws · 08/08/2021 22:33

Look what I am having on Saturday. Just found out this evening.
Hopefully she is a good diet aid like my other two who will walk all day given a chance.

Oh my god, she's gorgeous poorpaws. Have you picked out a name yet? Well done on the weight loss this week.

I gained over a pound this week, which I kind of knew was going to happen. I think last week's 3 pound loss was some sort of anomaly. So maybe this is evening things out a bit (grasping at straws).

Anyway I only managed one workout this week, and was minding my nephews for a few days so baking brownies and pizza for dinner was the order of the day. Also, I had my first dose of the vaccine yesterday and just ate whatever I could really. So basically this week was a write off.

Anyway I hope everyone else fared a bit better. Onward and downward, however slowly.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 09/08/2021 10:23

poorpaws what a beauty! I grew up with greyhounds and adore them. Our lifestyle's not quite right for a dog at the moment, so I am making do with cats, but my heart will always be with greys. Well done on your loss.

Mullets I am a pound up as well. C'est la vie. I have a clear run this week though (no planned meals out) and I am working back to running after my injury by doing an accelerated couch to 5k, so I am feeling positive about next week.
