Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

@FunnyWonder you see in my little head I am a genius it’s just that other people haven’t caught up yet 😀 I think it’s genius status to even be on mumsnet, you see it’s technology and I don’t do technology obviously.

Great weight loss @Menora very well done, I hope that’s put a smile on your face.

I must drink more water @Guestdressquery in fact I must drink SOME water. I keep meaning to and then I forget.

I really don’t know where today has gone, it’s flown by. I did the usual dog walk, lunch, then it started to rain as I was planting a clematis so I had to come in. It rained for quite a long time and very heavily and then the sun came out again (typical Devon weather) so I went out and planted a couple more climbing plants, came in for dinner and the whole day is gone. It’s not a great achievement really for a whole day. The food has gone quite well so far but it’s early evening yet and the evenings are my downfall. I keep eyeing up that hula hoop.

Good Evening Everyone!

I hope you all had a good day. It's been mostly sunny here which has made a welcome change after loads of rain. So much easier to get out and about.

@poorpaws sounds like you have been making IT magic in some kind of hokey cokey! The 17 pages and they're in, they're out . . They're back! Hurrah! What type of clematis did you plant? I bought one a few months ago because of the beautiful dark purple/pink flowers on the picture but when it actually flowered it was white. Sad times. As luck would have it I did then discover that a previous owner had already planted a purple clematis so win win!!! But what are the chances?

@Menora well done on the weight loss. I hope it has spurred you on and cheered you up Smile

The Joe Wicks workout sounded interesting. I kept hearing about it in the first lockdown but never got around to watching it. Seems like a great idea though and I must check it out.

I did a couple of walks today. One with the baby carrier for 45 minutes and then a bonus walk this afternoon due to a grumpy baby! He was so grumbly that it was easiest just to get out of the house as that seems to cheer him up! We went to the park and then did a bit of food shopping. I bought mostly healthy things and fruit but did buy a box of Cornetto for my other half. I am determined to resist their temptation though!

This evening hopefully brings another instalment of Lupin. The French detective series on Netflix. It's so very watchable and addictive! Have a good evening and will report back tomorrow. We have friends over for dinner on Saturday so I am trying to think how I can cook something healthyish as we will now be watching the football but will definitely want some snacks and booze!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 01/07/2021 20:29

poorpaws oh no, that must have been so stressful! I randomly delete emails for some reason and can never find them, so annoying. Thankfully the MN technology fairy was on hand.

Well done Menora, that's brilliant.

VonWeasal I totally agree - I feel like weather has a direct effect on how motivated I am to workout and eat well. For example today has been a bit crap here weather wise, cold and cloudy for most of the day.
The last few days the weather was good and I was eating salads, going for long walks etc. Today I just scoffed heavy food and didn't move much Sad.

At least I have managed not to snack this evening (hopeful).

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 01/07/2021 21:20

@VonWeasel I would definitely recommend Joe - his Friday workouts are the most fun! But he does themed ones too - dumbbells, abs, HIIT etc - so just depends what you prefer. And it's all free on YouTube Grin his series is on Netflix at the moment, I enjoyed that too. Could you do a BBQ type meal on Saturday (with or without BBQ weather!) - so burgers, bread, sausages etc but also lighter options like kebabs and salads?

Well done on the 3lb loss @Menora and I hope you're feeling better soon.

@poorpaws at least you are back with us now!! How has your evening gone?

I ended up eating much later than planned and really need to get to bed soon. DP told me again that he needs to lose weight - then scoffed four burgers for dinner, half of a large crusty loaf, lots of butter and some fries. I think I give up...

Good morning all

A sneaky look on the scales, which I should never do, tells me I have stayed the same this week so far even though I feel I should’ve lost something no matter how small.

I’m still not properly on here I’m still posting through the link that mumsnet kindly sent to me. I just don’t know what I’ve done and it’s so irritating and at the moment I haven’t got the headspace to sort it so I’m just going along with this link.

@VonWeasel The clematis I planted on the large picture was a sort of lilac grey, pale lilac beautiful shade. It came out pink! It was in very deep bud when I bought it and came out yesterday and was a very dark pink. I wouldn’t have actually chosen it but it looks quite nice but nothing like the picture! We’ve been doing the garden up for years, it’s a very difficult garden because it’s very very steep so as my OH puts a balustrade up for safety I’m trying to soften the walls with climbing plants on trellis. It will look lovely when they eventually grow but at the moment it looks a bit sparse.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl my evening was ok. I did much better than I thought I would because I was a bit down. I went to bed early so I wouldn’t eat, I do this quite regularly I take my iPad to bed and look at mumsnet because once I’m in bed I know I won’t get up and consume any food. I am trying this week but don’t appear to be losing which is so frustrating.

It’s a lovely morning here, the sun is shining so at least my mood has improved (my mood does fluctuate with the weather).

Have a lovely day everyone, try your best.

I’ve always been a big girl. Through your primary and high school too. I just got bigger over the years u till one day I decided to make a change. I started crash dieting which did help me lose weight but now I’ve put it all back on. I’ve got no motivation or willpower whatsoever and cannot get past crash dieting. Any tips welcome

FunnyWonder · 02/07/2021 08:52

Hello all. Hope things are going well for everyone.

I'm back from a run - no need for the usual early rise as the DC are off school and I'm not rushing back to herd them out the door. My eldest's school report dropped onto the mat yesterday and all good, except ... PE! The remarks were good as in it was recognised that he is enthusiastic and puts in the effort, but he ain't sporty. Just like his mum😬 I hated it so much. My youngest is a little dynamo so we'll have to rely on him for future Olympic medals!

I was gauging what 2 litres of water looks like earlier. It's a lot, isn't it? I needn't stray too far from the toilet while I give this a go. I was at my mum's yesterday and we had one of those sachet coffee things - it was a Starbucks caramel latte. 90 cals, so not too bad and tasted surprisingly nice. I'm not a coffee aficionado though, so coffee lovers would probably hate it.

All the best for today.

VonWeasel · 02/07/2021 10:20

Morning Ladies!

A quick update as it made me laugh so thought I would share it! I started using an app back in February to monitor my progress and logged on just now! At my current rate of progress (which wasn't much until hopefully now!) I am due to reach my target weight on 11th October 2024 Grin

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/07/2021 10:44

poorpaws, I weigh daily at the moment. I feel it keeps me a bit more focused on what I'm trying to achieve, even though I haven't lost a bloody ounce this week yet.

Friday's a hard one for me. We got into a routine over lockdown of walking to the M&S Simply Food in the evening for treats, because it was just about the only fun we were allowed. We're still doing it, and I think the DC would revolt if we stopped. I will need to be strong in the face of chips and dips.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/07/2021 10:44

Grin at October 2024

FunnyWonder · 02/07/2021 10:54

@VonWeasel only 3 and a half years to go😂

@TheTurn0fTheScrew I was in M&S yesterday and they had an offer where you buy a dip and can get a bag of tortilla chips for 50p instead of £1. They had no sour cream and chive dip left and that's the only reason I didn't buy any. I might have bought some Extremely Chocolatey Toffees though (which are definitely less Extremely Chocolatey than they used to be) but I haven't opened them yet. The DC will scoff most of them anyway!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/07/2021 14:03

VonWeasel Oh dear, October 2024 - I guess slow and steady wins the race Grin.

Better day today, had a healthy breakfast, then went for a long walk at lunchtime and did a 20 min workout when I got back.
Gonna have some lentil veg soup for lunch, and hopefully keep up the good momentum for the rest of the day.

I think the weigh in looming on Monday keeps me on my toes, trying to do my best over the weekend!

MegBusset · 02/07/2021 14:10

Scales are evil. I have kept on track this week, no more than 1400 cals a day, walked 4.5 Miles a day and did Zumba yesterday. But apparently I've gained 2lbs in two days Hmm undoing two weeks of hard work!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/07/2021 15:41

MegBusset please don't get disheartened, I do think sometimes we gain muscle, or are holding water weight or something. Especially if you are doing lots of exercise.

The scales don't always give the full story.

I took measurements at the beginning, and have lost 1/2 an inch on my thighs and waist, but the scales are not giving great results.

Some people also have those fancy scales that give you body fat percentage, I guess that could be more accurate.

muddledmidget · 02/07/2021 20:39

@poorpaws hiding the thread is exactly the kind of thing I would do, and probably should have done this week! I've had a midweek break in a lodge with my sisters, who I've not seen since October. Much food was eaten, much wine was drunk, and very little exercise was done.

Have no idea what the scales are going to say in the morning but I think I'll just leave it til Sunday so at least some of the water weight will come off. I am trying to lose this weight, but life keeps getting in my way...

VonWeasel · 03/07/2021 06:09

Morning All,

I hope everyone is ok. I usually do my weigh in on a Saturday morning as that's a tiny window of quiet time in the week. I am pleased to report that things are back on track and I am currently 65.8 kilos and now due to hit my target on 10th June 2023 so things are looking up Grin I have been drinking more water but do feel quite hot and dehydrated so this probably is playing a role in the lower number. But it's a loss so I am happy!

@poorpaws are clematis just tricky plants that pretend to be one colour then aren't? It does sound like you are creating a wonderful garden though and also gardening is exercise in a way. When I mow the lawn it takes me about an hour and then I am exhausted at the end!!! I do love a leisurely potter however!!!

@muddledmidget I hope you had a wonderful time with your sisters. That definitely called for a celebration and not being overly strict but maybe on some level you were subconsciously making slightly healthier choices?

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl thank you for the meal suggestions for today. We are going to do some lazy nibbles but I will make sure there are healthy alternatives and then a tandoori chicken and spicy potatoes but I will make a salad too. Dessert seems to have become a millionaires cheesecake however I bought some mini macaroons and mini chocolate coated ice cream bites so I was thinking I could possibly have a macaroon or bite as a treat and not go too wild.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood your Friday sounded very healthy. Is the lentil soup a homemade one, if so are you able to share the recipe?

@TheTurn0fTheScrew the M&S Friday treat shop is quite a nice tradition that you have created! M&S food always feels like something special to me so I can see how it would be hard to stop!!!

Have a good day everyone and enjoy the football if you are going to be watching it!!!! Wink

poorpaws · 03/07/2021 08:19

Morning everyone

I’m back on track and haven’t got you hidden any more thanks to the lovely mumsnet people who found you for me 😀 it won’t be long before I do something else stupid! (I spent most of yesterday looking for something I’ve lost, I still can’t find it and it only lives in one place
but for some reason it’s escaped).

@TheTurn0fTheScrew I love M&S food but I daren't even go in the store when Im trying to cut down because I always come out with bags full of lovely food and then I eat the lot (I am greedy by nature but M&S makes me worse).

@MegBusset scales are only nice when they go down and make you dance around the kitchen in delight (I might have done this quite a few times but not recently sadly). My AutoCorrect keeps changing your name to “Me gusset” regularly, annoying but makes me smile.

@muddledmidget
I believe it’s the law to drink and eat well when you haven’t seen your sisters for so long, plenty of time to claw back the damage during the rest of July I think.

@VonWeasel I used to believe that people picked up the tags in plants to have a look at the details and put them back in the wrong pot. On this clematis the label was actually tied to the plant with that thin elastic string and that’s usually done at the nursery. My OH has been an amateur photographer all his adult life and he says the photographs are hard to take in the right colour because you have to get so close to the flower and it distorts the colour. He is very much a smart arse so this could well be true. Had I am read the details on the label fully it did say it was pink but typical of me I didn’t read it and just looked at the picture.

What today has in store I am not quite sure but I want to keep on track because Monday morning weighin is looming. It’s raining here again so the dog walk might have to be delayed until this afternoon. I’ve got one dog who hates the rain because it goes down her ears (she’s got stand-up ears) and she feels very sorry for herself.

Not long now to Monday people so try your hardest this weekend. We’re getting to a time when it’s harder because we’ve already lost the water weight and we start to get a bit bored with the healthy stuff now (well I do) but I keep reminding myself of the first post I wrote and I really really do want to do it this time, get this weight gone forever. 🤞🏻

MegBusset · 03/07/2021 08:32

Lol @ me gusset

Scales are behaving again as I'm down 2lb from yesterday. I did seem to need the loo a lot yesterday so I guess it was water weight!

Off to the city with DS1 this morning, will be watching the football with a skinny ready meal while the boys have Papa John's.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Guestdressquery · 03/07/2021 09:57

Happy Saturday all! Good post @poorpaws - I think you are totally right about that very particular stage in the weight/inches loss journey. Am also at that point where I have my birthday week so lots of dinners planned :( shall try to be good.

Yesterday. 2l water but only 6k walked.

B: overnight oats, strawberries, almonds
L: toast, low fat hummus, carrots, chorizo. A spoonful Onken 0% vanilla yoghurt.
D: my favourite Chinese. We got everything I fancied but I ate v.v. small amounts of any of it: deep fried chicken wings, prawn balls, mushroom fried rice, char siu pork, stir fried veg. Aperol spritz. A little dark chocolate for dessert (at home).
Snack: 1 cracker & some low fat hummus.

I hope you all have wonderful Saturdays!

FunnyWonder · 03/07/2021 10:10

Well, fun and games here as we wait for a COVID test result for DS1. Almost certain his cough is hay fever related, but obviously can't be sure. When I got DS2 tested twice last year, his results were both back by 6.30am the next morning. But this time we're still waiting. I really want to eat a load of old rubbish to pass the time!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 03/07/2021 10:27

Morning everyone,
poorpaws you're right, after the initial week or two, it's harder to keep motivation going. I really think the weekly weigh in helps me get my act together for the second half of the week.

VonWeasel haha, well my 'healthy' Friday ended with a salted caramel Magnum Blush, but I think that balanced out the soup!

I got the recipe from here -
downshiftology.com/recipes/very-best-lentil-soup/
I just used normal tinned tomatoes with a bit of sweet paprika instead of the 'fire roasted' ones (wouldn't know where to get those and they sound a bit weird), and baby spinach instead of kale, because I hate kale. I usually make a big batch and freeze a few portions. It's delicious and very filling.
I stopped eating meat a few years ago, (and just ended up eating more carbs, which is partly why I gained weight) so I'm always trying to get more protein in, and eggs just get boring.

FunnyWonder · 03/07/2021 14:03

DS got a negative test. Does that mean I have no excuse not to go for a walk?GrinGrin

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 03/07/2021 19:19

That's brilliant FunnyWonder, you must be so relieved!

FunnyWonder · 03/07/2021 21:37

@Mulletsaremisunderstood certainly am relieved thanks. Have just eaten a celebratory yum yum! But I have been extra careful overall today in anticipation of a treat and reckon I have a calorie or three to spareGrin

poorpaws · 04/07/2021 07:45

Happy Sunday everyone.

@FunnyWonder so pleased to hear of the negative result, what a relief and now you can concentrate on weight loss 😀

Well Scoffing Saturday as I used to call it didn’t go too badly. I had a couple of fruit ice lollies (real fruit ones and not many calories) and a bag of low fat crisps extra to my normal eating habit so I didn’t think that was too bad considering I used to eat copious amounts of chocolate and crisps.

We’ve all just got to get through today and especially this evening without overindulging and the scales MIGHT show a good result (and a little dance around the kitchen).

Have a good Sunday everyone.
