Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

I avoid wheat and dairy as much as possible, but do eat a lot of veg on the high FODMAPs list so could do with being a bit more careful. I made the mistake of eating some raw cauliflower last week and was in pain for three days after!

FunnyWonder · 30/06/2021 09:16

@Menora very interested to hear how your baked oat concoction goes! Do keep us posted.

@poorpaws I'm drained of energy today too. I went to bed at stupid o'clock then somehow thought it was still a good idea to set my alarm for a run at 6.15. I didn't get up. And I didn't run. So am considering going now. Just waiting for all the stragglers to disperse from DS's primary school and be safely ensconced in their houses/workplaces so that I can head out. I don't want to risk anyone recognising me grunting along the pavement! Most of them pass by where I run.

It feels like a Friday because DS gets off school for the summer today (ridiculously long summer holidays in NI) and they're all bouncing around in normal clothes instead of uniform. I need to NOT think tomorrow is Saturday or I'll be on the wineGrin

I had cake yesterday!

Menora · 30/06/2021 09:28

The baked oates came out really good!
Just some rolled oates, 0% Greek yoghurt, a little honey and a little bit of stevia. Put blobs on a baking sheet and bake for 25 mins. Helps my sugar cravings as it’s sweet but not ridiculous. I tried to count out the calories sensibly I think it was 300 with a banana

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 30/06/2021 09:38

Menora do you have a recipe for your baked oat concoction? I love oats, but just do the boring microwave ones for breakfast.

Yesterday was my lazy day for exercise, just went for a walk and did a gentle yoga class in the evening. It was so hot here that it was easy to keep hydrated and not eat very much. Did have some ice cream, but it was very much needed!

Unfortunately today is much colder and I already feel hungry for comfort food! Anyway, will try and stick to healthy options, and get a workout in later.

I'm getting used to the no snacking in the evening thing, and I think it helps me sleep better.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 30/06/2021 09:40

Oh sorry Blush, I didn't see your latest message sorry haha! Oh dear, need more coffee.

Menora · 30/06/2021 09:45

I don’t have an exact measurements of items, I made them before on slimming world but they had egg in and did not taste that good 🤮 like really wet?

I started with 200g of rolled oates to split into 4 cakes and just added 1 Greek yoghurt and some water, if they are too sticky or dry add a splash of water or yoghurt, if too wet add more oates. You kind of want it to be stiff but not dry
Then one tbs of honey and a small amount of stevia gave it a little sweetness

poorpaws · 30/06/2021 13:51

So I decided to look at a Youtube shred challenge (Chloe Ting). I sat and watched the whole thing, didn’t move a muscle and I was exhausted just watching it 😀

Which reminded me that just after the first lockdown I ordered a hula hoop (from Smarthula I think it was called). It arrived very quickly and my OH put it together for me and leaned it against the curtains. It is still there looking at me menacingly, it hasn’t once been around my waist or anyone else’s waist for the matter. Perhaps I should at least TRY it, perhaps not!

My new digital scales show me so much heavier! I tested this with DD - she weighs the same on both so I don’t know WTF has happened for me

I actually cried

poorpaws · 30/06/2021 14:46

@Menora ah bless you. No need to cry we are all here for you. We are all in the same pickle you know. Flowers

Menora · 30/06/2021 14:50

I have only weighed this much when pregnant. I’m so upset with myself. I used to look great. I’ve really let myself go

FunnyWonder · 30/06/2021 15:34

Aw @Menora I know how deflating it is when that happens. Flipping scales! The number on there can make or break your day when you're trying to lose weight. I'm heavier than I was during either of my pregnancies. In fact I said as much to my mum last week. She doesn't think I ever look any different, bless her.

I know it's not much comfort, but at least you know where you're at now and it is quite satisfying with digital scales watching the numbers go down ... and they will. Thanks

Menora · 30/06/2021 15:55

I am feeling so emotional! I think being hungry and sinking in my weight is just all a lot to deal with

I just had my 6 week post op physio consultation (by phone) and she said I was doing really well. But that I cannot go swimming or do anything more than fast paced walking yet either. I have the consultant in 2 weeks and she said maybe he will agree to me doing more. I was trying not to get upset with her too 😂

I don’t want to cry all over your thread so I will just keep on keeping on and thank you so much for support

So I though I was 14st 7 but I am 15st
Healthy weight would be 11 stone but I am going to try to get to 12 and then reassess. So 3 stone to go

poorpaws · 30/06/2021 17:12

@Menora you are going to be ok, you’ve had a bit of setback but you can deal with it, we’ll help, you’ll be ok. Take a deep breath, you can do this.

Hello everyone. Just checking in now to see what's been happening today.

@Menora it sounds so frustrating for you when it seems like you really want to get going on the exercise front but are being told by your physio and consultant that you can't. I would say though that a fast paced walk is amazing exercise and as they have said that walking is ok, go with that for now. Any movement is better than no movement plus I find that being outside makes me feel better and also means that I am not at home eating Smile Last time when I did my initial weight loss, I had a calendar on the wall of Anthony Joshua (Grin) and every day I went to the gym or did some kind of exercise I put a star on it. I know it sounds daft but it was like a little well done me reward and also it motivated me to do more and therefore get more stars! I tried to get my partner involved and although it didn't get really competitive, some days if he had a star and I didn't, I would go and do something to get one!!! A couple of my friends also had some little fitness challenge going on between them to walk more and use their exercise bike, at the end of the month whoever had done the least bought dinner! That seemed like a good incentive. Anyway I ramble on but am just trying to think of things that can make it all feel less daunting and a bit more rewarding in the shorter term.

@poorpaws I always wondered about those hoops and was about to ask if they are any good?! They look good in the adverts at least!!!

@FunnyWonder did you manage to lose the Friday feeling and dodge the wine?!

So we have had an ok day, not sure I will win any accolades for food I have eaten but there wasn't loads of it and I didn't have ice cream, chocolate or crisps so that's a win! I also took my baby for a 40 minute walk in his carrier and he is pretty heavy now, then did an online zumba class so that feels like enough exercise for one day!

FunnyWonder · 30/06/2021 20:49

Ha! @VonWeasel It still feels like Friday, but no wine has been consumed ... yet! I like the idea of using your baby as an exercise aidGrin

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 30/06/2021 22:06

@VonWeasel I like the calendar idea. Wonder if DP would notice me using a 'hunks in trunks' calendar or similar as motivation?! Grin

The DC & I did PE with Joe this morning @poorpaws, might as well recreate our lockdown experience fully!! Actually it was nice to see Joe's cheery face again - I completely owe him a debt of gratitude for getting me exercising again.

@FunnyWonder I went through a very motivated phase of getting up at 6.15am to do an exercise video. It hasn't lasted! I find it easier to exercise after the school drop off TBH, once I've warmed up a bit with the walk there and back.

For all those looking for baked oat concoctions - bananas, eggs and porridge oats are all free on WW so I end up eating a lot of them! Currently I mash 3 bananas, mix in 3 eggs and a handful of frozen berries, chuck in enough porridge oats so it's not complete mush and bake it for about 20 minutes. As you can tell, cooking is not my strong point (apart from Cake, sadly) but it tastes ok and is handy as a snack.

@Menora I am currently trying to get back down to my post-baby weight, you're not alone!! I have 3lb to lose and then I'll be back to what I was the first time I dared to step on the scales after having the DTs. Whilst pregnant I was well over 110kg Confused

MrsMime · 01/07/2021 06:45

Morning everyone! This week has gone a bit pear shaped eating-wise but I've kept up the exercise and I'm trying not to beat myself up about it.
DS1 doesn't have Covid thankfully Smile so all good on that front.
I can definitely see and feel some changes - things are firming up so trying to focus on that and not my lousy eating!!

Menora · 01/07/2021 08:11

Morning everyone. The scales finally show a 3lb loss this morning. I’m feeling positive and really wanting to keep going

Have a good day everyone

Guestdressquery · 01/07/2021 08:38

Good morning all! Good news on loss @menora and on lack of Covid @mrsmime.

Yesterday was okayish. Only 6k steps walked but 2l water still drunk. Have really seen an improvement in my skin since massively upping my water intake about 8 weeks ago. A good incentive to keep going with it.

B: overnight oats, raspberries, almonds.
L: wholewheat toast, carrots, peppers, low fat hummus. 2 sqs dark chocolate.
D: homemade veggie risotto. 4 squares milk chocolate (almond and sea salt). Very thin squares at least.
Snack: handful raspberries, 1 cracker with hummus.

poorpaws · 01/07/2021 08:54

Good morning all

I’ve had the most terrible time, I’m such a fool! I completely lost this post the whole lot. I spent two hours last night trying to get it all back and eventually contacted the lovely mumsnet HQ people who asked me loads of questions I didn’t understand (because I’m very stupid) and they are trying to get it back for me. Apparently I might have hidden It inadvertently. They’ve sent me a link to it so I can keep in touch but I can’t get it at all.

As I type this they are trying to sort it out and I feel extremely stupid and not really fit to be on mumsnet. I just hope they can fix it for me but I still have no idea how I did it. Also I have one page now for the whole thread so I’ve done something else.

I’m very deflated with everything today But hopefully will be back on track soon.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I am incredibly impressed with your Joe exercise. I really ought to get into it, really really but it’s very hard to get started. I’ve got this idea that if I once start I’ll be fine but I never start!

Have a good day everyone and do as well as you can, that’s all we can ask.

poorpaws · 01/07/2021 08:58

Ooh it looks like I’ve got 17 pages back, not just one! I have no idea what I do but I think I Should go to mumsnet school and learn about navigating the posts (I’ll sit at the back of the class so no one asks me questions).

FunnyWonder · 01/07/2021 09:57

@poorpaws I have to confess I'm laughing just a little bit here, BUT it's in solidarity, believe me. What has happened to you with the Mumsnet post is the sort of thing that happens to me almost every day. I'm always running around like a headless chicken about something that has gone wrong on me (or because of me I fear). I shouldn't be let loose in this modern era of gadgetry and technology. My 12yo just rolls his eyes at me Believe me, you have nothing on me.

@Menora Yay! Fantastic weight loss.

@Guestdressquery I don't think I've ever managed to drink 2l of water in one day. I drink so much tea, there's not much room left! But maybe I should give it a go if it's making a notable difference to your skin. I'm known as Piddling Petunia in our house as it is though!

Menora · 01/07/2021 10:03

Water helps my skin too!
Also I have had terrible bladder and bowel issues for years, since my surgery these are Improving and drinking water really helps.
I count it by cups so try to drink at least 7-8 a day

MegBusset · 01/07/2021 11:12

I have terrible skin and that has definitely improved during my nearly a month now of no alcohol. However I'm finding that I need to get up for a wee at least once during the night!

Menora · 01/07/2021 11:30

I don’t know what I ate to flare up my IBS today 🥴
I suppose it will help with weight loss though
