Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Well done on the loss @poorpaws and @MegBusset (and anyone else I may have missed!) - depressingly rainy here too and very tempting to sit and scoff cake...

No loss for me this week despite Shredding many times. Pah! However I have eaten convenience food a lot (due to chaos in the house with various things breaking down), probably shows that actually tracking what I ate made a big difference Blush

I did w6r1 today @FunnyWonder. Pensioners looked at me with concern as I huffed and puffed past Grin but I did it, which is the main thing, right?!

@MumofSpud I lost all my baby weight at SW. Yippee!! Then I put it all back on - and a bit more for good measure Sad with retrospect I think I lost it a bit too quickly and didn't pay attention to the underlying health issues that have caused me problems since, but to be fair it was easier when the DC were babies. When they were toddlers I had zero motivation to do anything except eat chocolate and try to survive Confused

DS1 was my workout buddy yesterday @MrsMime! He rode his bike and talked constantly whilst I walked behind him, we did about 5K. I really want to encourage the DC to be more fit and active as (of course) it's good for them but also to do more things as a family - I just need to get DP to get his bum off the sofa more often...!

MrsMime · 28/06/2021 12:14

Afternoon all - well done to all the losers this week Grin
All gone a bit pear-shaped here this morning - DS1 has developed Covid symptoms so in all the whirlwind of sorting work/school/test etc I forgot to weigh in. Pretty sure I haven't lost anything though!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 28/06/2021 12:17

Morning all. So I stepped on the scale first thing this morning, after I went to the bathroom but before I drank anything and it said 147.6lbs which I was delighted with....but then I had a cup of coffee and a glass of water, and decided to see what the scale would say...148.8lbs Sad. Hmm. So I'm a bit miffed that having a drink could make such a difference.

Anyway, it was a weird week, I was a bit all over the place, didn't exercise enough, but kept away from evening snacking which is a plus.

SW: 10st 11.8lbs
CW: 10st 8.8lbs
GW: 9st 7lbs

Definitely gonna do better this week, I will do a proper workout today and hopefully get out for a walk.

VonWeasel · 28/06/2021 14:35

Well done everyone on your losses this week and also to the biggest losers Grin I have found even just being here slightly encouraging and so I managed to say no to cake and crisps whilst out earlier. Will also try and stay strong today and avoid ice cream!!!

In terms of weight, I was 67.4 kilos yesterday and I would like to get to 60 kilos. A couple of years ago I stepped on the scales and it was 80.4 kilos so I managed to drop a little weight before I was pregnant which was great progress. Now I would like to be in the middle of a healthy BMI as opposed to the very top end. I do like my cheese and chocolate though!!! I haven't been drinking alcohol since pregnancy but can't get enough of alcohol free beer so that probably cancels out any gains! Anyway thanks again for your updates. There were also some nice meal suggestions and I particularly liked the watermelon and feta salad suggestion as it sounds positively dreamy!

FunnyWonder · 28/06/2021 19:13

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I could hear you huffing and puffing from here😂😂 Oh, oops, that was me!

Glad to see some losses here. Makes me more determined to try harder.

poorpaws · 28/06/2021 19:19

@FunnyWonder I hear what you say about portion sizes. When my 0H stayed for six months earlier this year our portion sizes were enormous and we both left a very clean plate. I am working on this now and eating much smaller portions. It made me realise today, when we were both working in the garden, that things have changed because I am always thinking it’s lunchtime, I’m hungry, I must get lunch. Today for the first time my 0H told me it was nearly 2 o’clock and I hadn’t fed him lunch. That’s some turnaround at my house, I hadn’t even felt hungry and had no idea that it was so late.

@Guestdressquery I think that’s a lot more than an okay result! A holiday and a wedding, Blimey that’s a stone on me.

@MegBusset 2 lbs off is so good, well done and also brilliant that you’re 14 days without alcohol, lots of people couldn’t manage that one. Alcohol doesn’t bother me but it would be hard for me to give up chocolate, ice cream or cake for 14 days.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl i’m sure you’ll do better next week hopefully, don’t give up. Your DC will become more fit with your great example to them.

@MrsMime I hope your DS1 is okay and it’s not Covid. It’s a very worrying time so no wonder you forgot to weigh in. There’s lots of time to weigh when he’s feeling better and you are less stressed. Please keep us informed.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood it’s best to weigh once, first thing I find so there’s no confusion. I am very easily confused. I’m sure you’ll do well next week.

@VonWeasel well done on cake and crisps avoidance. It helps me enormously to know I have to admit what I’ve done on here, I don’t know how I’d cope on my own, not very well I fear.

Had an horrendous dog walk today. Stupidly I went in open sandals and there were lots and lots of puddles from yesterday‘s rain one of which I slipped in. Then a big branch of a tree grabbed hold of my hair and I couldn’t free it and if that wasn’t enough I stood on a sharp stick and the pointed end of it went into my toe on my other foot, I really screamed it was so painful.

Try and have a good week everyone and by next Monday we will all be lighter. 🤞🏻😀

@poorpaws I nearly fell headfirst into a large puddle today... my usual running route is quite stony, after that scare I took a detour!! Hope your poor feet have recovered now!

@FunnyWonder I wouldn't be surprised if you had heard me huffing and puffing, Ms Tomato Face was there with a vengeance Grin Grin

Menora · 29/06/2021 00:20

Hi, can I join?
I have 3 stone or so to lose
I am 93kg
My boyfriend does too but he’s not really taking it seriously and is such a bad influence 😭😂
I also tend to binge eat and drink when I feel miserable!

I had major surgery after 5 years of period misery so I feel like I want the old me back but I can’t do much exercise yet. I gained a stone recovering from surgery 😭😭

I also have really bad IBS and having a bad diet makes it horrendous so it’s not just weight, I want the IBS to settle down

I’m awake this time of night becssue I am so hungry and if I drink loads of water I will be on the loo again at 5am

I can fight the hunger when I am feeling motivated but it is rubbish and I am sick of not losing weight!

poorpaws · 29/06/2021 07:55

@Menora welcome, your post made me so sad. We can’t offer a miracle cure here and sometimes we do get it wrong but we are a very supportive crowd without judgement so I hope you stay with us.
It’s very difficult when a partner sabotages what we try to do. My partner is very thin so I do understand. Fairy steps and keep posting and we’ll all get there. There is plenty of support if you feel you are failing and plenty of applause if you do well 😀

I’ve no idea what today has in store for me, I hope it’s not too much as my feet are still hurting from yesterday. I think an easy morning would be nice. I received my Fitbit stats this morning for the week and I’m down on everything from last week so I have to try harder.

Whatever you are all doing today I hope you all have a good healthy happy day.

Thanks! I’m off ‘sick’ for one more week but have been WFH. I am out walking dog this morning before I start but I need to get up earlier if this becomes more regular. Weekly weigh in - zero lost. I was up half the night wondering whether to get pills or injections to get started

Menora · 29/06/2021 09:19

Ok so to get me started, I think I didn’t have a big enough calorie deficit for me to lose weight last week. I think it’s at least 3500 yes? And I think I ate 12,000 (with little exercise). I think my maintenance calories are 14,000 a week with no exercise

This week I am aiming for a larger deficit and more exercise. I am walking 1 Mile briskly at a time. I will hope to up this as the weeks progress (I am post op)

Yesterday I ate 1200 cals and was super hungry so 1400 might work better?

poorpaws · 29/06/2021 10:37

@Menora
I am not a doctor or dietician (or I wouldn’t be in this pickle) but for me protein works best to keep me fuller for longer. I have just two scrambled eggs (loosened with a drop of water) in the morning and this keeps me going until lunch time. Eggs are your friend if you like them.
I get my sweet tooth cravings from fruit, especially this time of year as I love strawberries and raspberries. Lunch time I have a large bowl of fruit , one apple, one orange cut quite small and then a lot of strawberries and raspberries with a low fat raspberry yogurt. This keeps me going until my evening meal.
Eating less in the day enables me to eat a little more in the evenings and have supper so I’m not hungry overnight. No alcohol, no chocolate, cake, biscuits. I also enjoy fruit ice lollies (the good ones not the cheap ones full of water) and I drink a lot of Diet Coke and not enough water. None of this is perfect but it seems to be working for me. I do a 2 hour slow dog walk daily too but little other exercise which I must work on. I hope at least some of this works for you. Others on this thread are losing weight in different ways and I’m sure they’ll help you if you ask them to.

@poorpaws your walk yesterday sounded challenging although your description of it made me smile. It's the kind of situation I could picture myself in. The rain really does make everything so much more difficult whereas I find that when it's sunny, I tend to wake up with a spring in my step and up for doing things. Yesterday was more conducive to sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea so anyone out exercising was doing so well.

@Menora - you have made a massive step even starting this journey so should feel proud of yourself. Slowly does it.

So yesterday evening went a bit wrong. My baby took so long to settle that by the time I went downstairs it was almost 9pm and I couldn't be bothered to make anything for dinner so I had a mint cornetto instead. Whoops! Didn't have anything else though and then went to bed myself so hopefully yesterday was a bit of a deficit!

I started today with a bowl of porridge with frozen mango, blueberries and raspberries cooked into it. Was ravenous by 10 but had an apple as no biscuits or goodies lurking in the cupboards! Not sure how today will go but at least it's not raining! Good luck everyone Smile

Menora · 29/06/2021 11:58

No alcohol and chocolate is what I need to do!

I do eat eggs yes.
So a typical day will be
1 or 2 eggs scrambled
Seeded bread x 1 slice no butter
Banana or apple

Lunch
Cous cous salad with vegetables/protein or jacket potato

Dinner
A low fat healthy meal from hello fresh or gousto

Snacks
Fruit/nuts etc

I think issue is not moving enough! I am always hungry even drinking a lot of water

Menora · 29/06/2021 12:08

As I have IBS I can’t live off fruit it’s too sugary and really causes me issues with bloating and either C or D 😂. I have to eat more of the FODMAP type things -cous cous is really small so doesn’t bloat me out like pasta (I should switch to gluten free) and heavily seeded bread in small portions also doesn’t have too much of a bad effect

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 29/06/2021 12:46

Same re the hunger! I am such a bottomless pit. I am trying to learn to live with a bit of hunger TBH.

B - 2 cups coffee with milk, apple
L - cheese omelette, huge salad
supper will be chicken tacos in front of the football. Will try to be restrained with the cheese. Will fail, probably.

Still no proper exercise due to foot injury. I did the school runs on foot yesterday (4 miles total) and was limping, so will do one round trip per day in the car for now. Envious of those of you out running and hiking, evil stick injuries aside. Oddly, the weather here in the north is great and I wish I could make the most of it.

Menora · 29/06/2021 13:04

I was tempted to get that skinny jab just to feel less hungry 😂😭
I don’t want side effects though

Same re not being mobile it’s frustrating isn’t it

I just had a beetroot burger from Aldi, it was nice actually. With baked beans. I am still hungry 😂

Guestdressquery · 29/06/2021 20:06

Thank you @poorpaws - reading your kind words made me smile.

Today was a frustrating day at work. The plus side is that it meant I had to go out for a lot of head-clearing walks. So did just under 12k steps. 2l water.

B: 2 (small) slices wholemeal loaf, almond butter, bowl of strawberries.
L: 1 slice loaf, carrot sticks, cottage cheese, hummus, cherry tomatoes. 2 squares dark chocolate.
D: half portion wholewheat pasta. With half chicken breast and tons of leeks, onions, lemon and feta. 2 squares chocolate.
Snack: 1 tbsp cottage cheese.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 29/06/2021 21:58

@TheTurn0fTheScrew I know what you mean about getting used to living with hunger. And "try drinking water first" does not cut it Angry I drink plenty of water, but I'm still hungry! Had some fruit instead earlier and then will have an early night.

I was hoping to do more walking today but DTS1 is off school sick (not Covid); I did Shred but missed my walking. Jumping up and down watching the football doesn't count Grin

MegBusset · 30/06/2021 07:46

I find as long as I'm not wasting calories on alcohol, 1400 calories is enough for me not to feel hungry during the day (luckily I enjoy eating salad and vegetables. My teenage, carnivorous kids think it's hilarious - "Mum's eating rabbit food again")

I've got my period this week so not sure if I'll get a loss but not craving sweet stuff quite as much as I would normally.

MegBusset · 30/06/2021 07:49

@Menora I have IBD (ulcerative colitis) and am trying to cut down on FODMAPs - it's difficult with family cooking though, and hard to avoid eg pulses/beans as I'm vegetarian.

poorpaws · 30/06/2021 07:53

Good morning all

I’ve been up for a while but feeling extremely lethargic this morning with no energy at all. I fear I need food! Instead of moaning and thinking about it I’m going in the shower, eating my scrambled eggs and getting outside. It’s no good feeling sorry for myself so I’ll just get on with it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

OP posts:
Menora · 30/06/2021 08:15

I’m still starving and fell asleep on the bed fully clothed last night. At least I wasn’t eating 😂

I am making some kind of baked oat concoction this morning for a variation from bread - wish me luck 😂

I think I have finally lost a kg but I have ordered new scales as mine are ancient and no good really so hopefully can start weighing out properly later

I think with FODMAP it’s a good way to experiment - I know for instance I shouldn’t eat grapes and I already see a difference in my BM from changing my diet away from so much sugar (I am sugar addict)

Menora · 30/06/2021 08:18

I am back in my office next week and it’s so much harder to follow a diet there. This is how I have gained weight as I can walk to a bakery. I have been spoilt being at home with my own kitchen and work kitchen is grotty and always in use. I will have to force myself to take my own food every day and make something and not end up at the shop

I always struggle to make good choices off cuff with no planning does anyone else?
