Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

poorpaws · 06/06/2021 20:22

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

And welcome @redkiteflying. This is the first of these types of threads I have ever joined but everyone seems lovely and positive, swapping tips and keeping each other's spirits up and the lockdown pounds down (and decreasing!).

MrsMime · 25/06/2021 12:36

Scales just aren't shifting for me this week despite eating less and moving more.
I'm wondering whether to switch to measurements or even just go on how I look and feel but I like having some kind of tracker if that makes sense. Any ideas?
@poorpaws I am a little envious - I love Devon. My DP still has family there so we at least get to visit and enjoy it then.

poorpaws · 25/06/2021 13:59

@redkiteflying You certainly may join, you are very welcome. We are quite a new group and I think a lot of people have left us already but I try to post daily to keep this going. I’m sure the others will be along soon. Good luck with the biscuit avoidance.

It's been a tough week for me with lots of house stuff going wrong/ requiring attention - plus my fitness tracker has gone AWOL, taking my motivation to move more with it! - but I don't think I've eaten too much...

@MrsMime could you go by an outfit in a smaller size to see if you're losing weight? I have a party frock in my wardrobe which I can't fit into yet, but every so often I try it on to see how far I am from actually doing it up...!

Welcome @redkiteflying Smile

Hope you are doing better today @poorpaws?

poorpaws · 26/06/2021 07:53

Good morning all

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl yes thank you, I did do a bit better yesterday thank goodness. I hope you are doing well too.

I’m going to IKEA today with a friend, it’s about an hour away by car. She said to me yesterday that we could have a McDonald’s breakfast and then have lunch at IKEA 😱 I had to tell her I would do one or the other but couldn’t possibly do both.

I hope everyone is doing as well as they are able and on Monday we see some losses (although I doubt very much I’ll be one of the losers this week). I will keep trying, I am not giving up. I wish there was a magic potion we could all take to get rid of the flab, that would be amazing.

MrsMime · 26/06/2021 08:38

That's a good idea, @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl thanks. I have some jeans that are my goal jeans!
I did weigh myself this morning (despite what I said yesterday ) and am 1 lb down so that's better than nothing. Going to do some exercise shortly then DS needs new school shoes so will take him to Sports Direct and maybe have a look at other exercise stuff. I fancy getting some small weights I can hold while I'm rebounding to help tone my arms (and increase my heart rate).
Hope everyone has a good day.
Welcome @redkiteflying!

MrsMime · 26/06/2021 08:38

@poorpaws enjoy IKEA! I love that place!!

Xenia · 26/06/2021 09:05

I might joint this thread as it seems to be quite active.. Just marking my place for now.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 26/06/2021 16:03

Oooh, IKEA - I love their frozen cinnamon rolls (drool). Good call on having either McD's or IKEA lunch. Plus the aisles are so big there that you can walk off whatever you eat! I hope everyone's having a good Saturday.

The middle of this week was a bit crap, but I'm definitely feeling more positive today - I stuck to my eating window yesterday, and dealt with the evening hunger pangs with green tea. I feel less bloated and not stressing about calories so much.

Had coffee and porridge for breakfast, lentil vegetable soup for lunch (with a cheese toastie on the side). I will make spinach and feta parcels for dinner with steamed veg, and will stop eating at about 6.30pm for the night.
I also walked about 10k today and did a 15 minute cardio workout when I got back.

Let's hope I don't blow it before the weigh in on Monday.

poorpaws · 26/06/2021 18:02

I’m back from my shopping trip to IKEA. I’m ashamed to say we filled the car (I only have a very small old car) and then went back in again. I’ve spent a small fortune and my kitchen looks like an IKEA bargain basement but I’ve had an amazing day.

Totally skipped the McDonald’s breakfast and chose the salmon at IKEA which I thought was a good call, AND NO DESSERT! that is absolutely unheard-of and my friends face was a picture when I said I wasn’t having a dessert, she just couldn’t believe it 😀 (I couldn’t believe it either).

I only tracked 7000 steps although we were there all day. I do about 11 or 12,000 on a dog walk. But I am shattered this evening, I think it must be the standing round looking at things. I only went for two items!

@Xenia join us do, we are a nice little group, very friendly and very supportive.

I remember last Saturday I couldn’t stop eating so I’m very mindful of that this week. I hope you all have a very healthy weekend.

Good morning everyone, happy Sunday.

I woke up to rain again this morning, it’s so depresses me. I have no idea what I’m doing today or what I’m eating. With weigh day on my mind I need to have a good day eating-wise today.

I hope everyone sticks to plan today ready for the big weigh-in tomorrow. I’m not expecting miracles, one pound off would be lovely.

Morning! I wonder if I might be able to join you folk on here? I was on a another thread that appears to be dying, and I could do with some support, motivation and accountability.

Between lockdown and surgery that immobilised me for a bit I put on about a stone and a half, on top of already being a stone over my desired weight. I have been losing weight since 19/04 - no particular diet, just trying not to eat all day long like I used to. Can't exercise right now due to a foot injury but normally work on 10k daily steps plus a couple of half hour runs a week.

I've been weighing in on Sundays, so my stats are
Start weight: 13st 4 (April 21)
This week: - 1lb
Current weight: 12st 3
Loss so far: 1st 1lb

Looking forward to catching up with you all in the coming week!

FunnyWonder · 27/06/2021 09:09

Morning! Hope everyone is well and not being too hard on themselves.

@poorpaws I really empathise because I hate the rain too. I live in Co Down and we get a LOT of rain. There have been summers where I just couldn't take any more wet, dreary weather. We're very high up, so the wind isn't funny either. Our garden is like the inside of a cyclone vacuum cleaner with its own mini weather system. Garden furniture doesn't hang around for long!! Think opening scene of the Wizard of Oz ...

Well, I had my usual Saturday 'blow out', but I don't care too much because, unlike before, I seem to be able to get back on track the next day. I am eating my normal meals, just sticking to no snacks and feel as though I'm making some progress. But I know there will be a sticking point where my body decides that it doesn't want to lose any more. That's what usually happens and it's the point at which I will have to rethink my meals - portion size, calories etc. In saying that, my meals aren't TOO bad. I can't have too much oily/fatty food as I get a really bad stomach. We bought an air fryer and I do home made chips in there which are lovely.

The exercise is going pretty well. I'm still running (ok, slow trotting) three times a week and lifting kettlebells at home. I definitely feel better and that's gotta be good! There's a woman I see quite often when I'm running and she power walks, marching along with her arms swinging like mad. I always feel a little laugh bubbling up inside because it does look funny - but she is in fantastic shape, very toned and muscular. So she's clearly doing something right.

FunnyWonder · 27/06/2021 09:13

Welcome @TheTurn0fTheScrew.

VonWeasel · 27/06/2021 10:36

Good Morning All! I wondered if it would be ok to join this group? I could really do with losing a stone but 11 month old baby/disrupted sleep/peanut butter cravings aren't helping! I thought signing up for some group motivation might help focus my mind a bit. I am finding that not buying chocolate unless I really fancy it is quite helpful but I seem to have replaced chocolate with ice cream and lollies. Three of them yesterday. Oh dear!

MrsMime · 27/06/2021 15:15

Afternoon all and welcome to any newcomers!
I got my weights and my youngest son got a kettlebell so we're now workout buddies!
My period started yesterday so that might account for a slow loss this week. Definitely building muscle though so that's something!

poorpaws · 27/06/2021 19:32

@TheTurn0fTheScrew and @VonWeasel welcome, you are very welcome, it’s nice to have some newcomers, keep us updated on your progress.

@FunnyWonder oh how I sympathise and empathise with you. We’ve had torrential rain here for most of the day and it’s so hard to get out in it. I just want to stay in and eat! I live on what was once a steep hill full of horses. It’s so steep at the back and the wind howls right around the building, so depressing.

@MrsMime I love the fact that you’ve got a workout buddy, I'd love that.

It’s been a long boring day here and I’ve just wanted to sit and eat all day. I managed a 11,000 step dog walk before the rain got even worse but I really struggled, I just wanted to be inside. I’m trying hard not to eat my own body weight in food and a friend left me a box of Celebrations which was hard to resist, especially as OH sat and ate lots of them in front of me (I should LTB I know 😂). I don’t want to wreck any weight loss tomorrow morning so I’m trying to stay clear of anything delicious.

For those weighing in tomorrow, our third weigh-in, good luck and let’s see those weight figures come down 🤞🏻

Ah bum! No loss this week. Serves me right for thinking I can get away without calorie counting. I'm still a bit surprised. Not giving up though. And no more Saturday blow outs! Will check in again later. Have just been for a run and am glowing like a pigGrin

Good luck everyone!

MumofSpud · 28/06/2021 07:33

I reached my target weight at SlimmingWorld the week before the first lockdown!
Then it all went pear shaped!
I put on a bit over 3 stoneAngryBlush
I rejoined SlimmingWorld in May and have lost a stone - gone back to swimming again which will help, I hope!

poorpaws · 28/06/2021 07:56

Good morning everyone

@FunnyWonder, never mind, don’t get disheartened, you’ll do better next week I’m sure. So good that you’re not giving up! Years ago I would have given up at a no loss week but now I just put it down to being a lesson learnt.

@MumofSpud you’ve done it once, you can do it again and swimming will definitely help. I can’t swim.

I’ve lost 1.1/2 pounds this week and to say I’m flabbergasted is an understatement. I’ve eaten out twice during the week (with great care) and I’m so delighted. As you will know by now I’ve got an extremely sweet tooth and it just proves by cutting out Chocolate and not having the desserts and ice cream when I went out (which I have to say wasn’t that bad) I’ve lost more than I thought by this time in the diet.

Good luck to all those left to weigh, we can do this and if you don’t do as well as you’d hoped there’s next week to concentrate on and you’ll be more determined than ever.

Well done you aswell is - eating out means drawing on will power and not being sabotaged by the person you are with (DH I am looking at you!) It is DH's birthday today and there is cake everywhere!
FunnyWonder · 28/06/2021 08:22

@MumofSpud I am in awe of you reaching your target weight in the first place. That was a fantastic achievement. And losing a stone of the regained weight since May is absolutely brilliant. You'll definitely do this!

@poorpaws That really is fab. Eating out is such a minefield. So hard not to overindulge. I can usually forgo dessert, but it's the desire to clear my plate that gets me every time. Portion sizes are HUGE in NI (certainly anywhere I go).

Although I'm disappointed with no weight loss, I have to keep reminding myself that I'm eating probably a quarter of the sugar I was before and I'm not sitting around absently throwing crisps or sweets into my face. I've got to be healthier than I was, which is a plus.

Guestdressquery · 28/06/2021 08:59

Morning all, well done on the loss OP!

Measured hip and waist this morning and no loss but no gain either - after a week on holiday, ending with an all-day wedding, that feels like an ok result.

Meals Sat/Sun:

B: Sat - fruit salad, yoghurt and a tiny croissant. Sun - poached eggs, avocado, 1 slice brown toast, 2 rashers back bacon and 1 hash brown (hotel breakfasts both).
L: Sat - picked at the wedding lunch (soup, braised beef and potato, some kind of strawberry mousse. Had maybe 1/3 of each course). About 2 glasses champagne, 1 glass wine, 1 G&T. Sun: tuna sandwich, 1/2 bag baked crisps, apple, mini Ritter chocolate.
D: Sat - bacon roll and 3 slices wedding cake (wedding dinner/snack). Sun - 1/2 salmon steak, cottage cheese, asparagus, small slice toast. Strawberries and yoghurt.

Lots of water drunk and steps walked over the weekend but glad to be getting back into my normal routine now!

MegBusset · 28/06/2021 09:05

Well done on the loss @poorpaws. Eating out is definitely tricky for me too - so hard to keep track of calories unless it's a chain restaurant and even then it's hard to find healthy options.

2lb off for me this week Smile I've now gone 14 days without alcohol which is the most in my adult life apart from when I was pregnant!

I have adjusted my goal weight downwards a bit as I think with not drinking it ought to be doable - we'll see.

SW: 10st 2lb
CW: 9st 9.6lb
GW: 9st 4lb
