Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

poorpaws · 06/06/2021 20:22

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood and @Timetochangeitup well done to both of you. I think we have all had a positive second week and long may it continue.

Having said that I just want to eat chocolate today. It’s very cold with heavy rain, I got drenched at the garden centre, the heating is on and I just want to eat. Had lunch and I STILL want to eat. Having a cup of black coffee doesn't really cut it.

Well done to everyone who is celebrating a loss today - or just celebrating not giving in to temptation Grin

@poorpaws I heroically resisted a large cup of hot chocolate earlier when I met a friend at a cafe. It's cold and rainy here too, I did a run on the way home from school drop off and looked longingly at the menu... but persuaded myself not to give in. If I don't lose again this week I will be most miffed!!

2lb off for me, obviously I was hoping for a couple of stone after all that Shredding but it was not to be Grin decided that when I've lost another stone or so I'll treat myself to some new underwear, as frankly mine has seen better days. I bet Anita and Natalie don't wear ratty old Tesco pants...

SW: 14st
CW: 12st 8lb
GW: 10st 6lb

Today I have reached a milestone of 20lb off and 10% of my original body weight lost. Woo hoo! However, I still have 30lb left to go. Oh Sad

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 21/06/2021 17:20

Clara you might be losing inches rather than pounds, as you are likely gaining muscle. I did the Shred a few years ago and didn't lose much but lost a few inches off my waist. Well done on your 20lbs though.

poorpaws are you in the southern hemisphere? It's so much harder to eat healthy when it's cold weather.

Guestdressquery · 22/06/2021 07:38

Good morning, all. Some great losses and demonstrations of willpower. I hope to he emulating you on both but particularly the latter as am now on holiday in a posh hotel in London. And hotel breakfast buffets are my downfall (as is cold, rainy weather - I entirely agree with OP and PP on this).

Yesterday was ok. 2l of water, 12k walked (I always walk a lot on holidays):

B: overnight oats, strawberries, almonds
L: small slice toast, warmed up veggie chilli, asparagus. 2 squares chocolate.
D: Five Guys cheeseburger BUT I only ate a few fries and left 4/5 of the bread of the burger. Pret bar.

Fancy dinner tonight but lots of walking planned for today. Will try to strike the right balance between eating what I want while also not piling on too many calories. Turning down beautiful desserts is hard but I find having a double espresso at the end of a beautiful meal out kills the craving.

poorpaws · 22/06/2021 07:54

Good morning all

I’ve got a busy day planned today as I did no exercise yesterday (far too rainy to take the dogs anywhere). Because I am used to doing my 10k steps on the dog walk every day it really shows on the scales when I miss a day because it’s so unusual. I’ve got to make up for it today.

@Guestdressquery I am so envious of your posh hotel and there is no way on this earth that I could miss out on gorgeous desserts, I might do okay on mains and not have starters but desserts oh no I’d have to indulge.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood I am in rainy, soggy, soaking Devon. I don’t think there is rain forecast today but you never know here it pours down just to annoy me.

Have a good day everyone and try your best.

muddledmidget · 22/06/2021 08:26

@poorpaws, I completely agree about the weather making this more difficult - I want warm stodge rather than cold salads.

Yesterday was a good day, shopping done, and a veggie chilli made for dinner for the next couple of nights, but no exercise, as Dorset was just far too soggy!

Today I'm back to work so need to get myself organised and pack up a lunch, otherwise I'll end up with a meal deal.

Have a good day

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 22/06/2021 10:51

poorpaws oh wow, I thought you were somewhere that it was winter! Sorry the weather has been so crap! That definitely makes it harder.

Having a bit of a panic today because I ended up snaking on crisps last night and had no energy yesterday and just wanted to eat all day. I keep snacking in the evenings and sabotaging myself.

I think I'm going to try intermittent fasting and see if that does me better, as I get really stressed about sticking to 1500 - 1600 calories. I just feel hungry all the time.
Instead I'm going to eat a bit more if I need it, but only in an 8 hour window.

Also going to keep up the exercise and see whether fasting helps me not feel so deprived! I watched a few videos on IF and it seems like a less stressful way for me to do it. Fingers crossed.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 22/06/2021 14:31

@Mulletsaremisunderstood I do hope those inches are going as I've ordered a raincoat in a size 12 Grin less as something to aim for and more because I really like this particular raincoat, it's being discontinued and I could only get it in a 12! I'd have been happier with a 14 (given that I'll probably have layers under it too) but hey, it'll look lovely on the coat hanger if not me

Hope you're getting your steps in today @poorpaws! I've ordered new straps for my fitness tracker as the ones I have are breaking and I feel like there's no point walking unless I can see my step total going up Hmm

A friend has asked me to join various fitness challenges with her and they all sound great, but are quite expensive and she's so flakey, I think I'd be left doing them on my own! One is online but some are in person - local walks etc. It's not that I mind joining/ attending things on my own, but given that they're her idea, I need to have a good look into them first. She's lovely (we've been friends for about 20 years) but has a habit of just dropping off the radar for a good long time; it's a shame as in theory the challenges are really good but I know she'll drop out and leave me to do some/ all of them by myself!

Agadorsparticus · 22/06/2021 14:35

Happy weigh in.

SW: 198.8lbs
CW:195.6lbs
GW: 150 lbs

3lbs down in 10 days, exercised my tits off last week, no alcohol for 2 weeks and eaten only when hungry. It's not too bad actually.
I'm happy to now be under 14st (only just) and I feel much better for it, not as bloated.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 22/06/2021 16:30

@Agadorsparticus I have pretty much the same stats as you!! Started around 14st, need to get to 10 1/2 st (I'm 5ft 5, so even that's at the upper end of my recommended weight, but I've been happy and pretty slim at that weight before). Well done on the 3lb off so far; I started a few months ago during lockdown as I couldn't fit into any of my clothes Blush and still have a fair way to go. Exercise has definitely made a big difference for me, both with weight/ inch loss and motivation - PE with Joe nearly killed me more than once but did at least make me get into the habit of regular exercise again!

FunnyWonder · 23/06/2021 07:45

Great to see some losses! I'm still ploughing ahead. Managing to stay away from the treats, certainly on week days, and not missing them TOO much. I feel as though I'm getting used to not having them and have felt myself inwardly tutting at DP for scoffing biscuits. He's one of those annoying people who doesn't put on weight (dammit) and still wears the same size waist as he did when I met him 30 something years ago. Probably the same trousers too😂 It can mean he lacks empathy for people who need to lose weight.

I went for my run this morning, but had to cut it short when I realised I hadn't switched off my alarm, so it was going to waken the whole house. I ran more quickly because I was panicking, so maybe that offset the shorter run a bit!

poorpaws · 23/06/2021 07:50

Good morning everyone

We are having a day out today on the moors with the dogs. I think lunch at our favourite café will have to be the ham Ploughman’s again because I enjoyed it so much before. I will do damage limitation by giving my 0H most of the coleslaw and chutney even though I love coleslaw and chutney. There will be a fair amount of walking So that should help. It’s a gorgeous day here.

@Mulletsaremisunderstood
Your comment made me laugh, my 0H always says you’d think we live in Siberia the way I talk about the weather in Devon. I just hate rain, really really hate it.

I hope you all have a good healthy day today whatever you are doing.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 23/06/2021 07:56

@FunnyWonder i’ve got the same problem, a OH who can eat anything and is so thin, very annoying critters they are. They have no idea what we go through. Mine eats all my favourite things and weighs less than I do. I think it’s grounds for divorce except we aren’t married 😀

MrsMime · 23/06/2021 21:04

@poorpaws are you near Dartmoor? My DP is from Devon and we've spent some lovely holidays scrambling around on Dartmoor with the kids Smile

Guestdressquery · 24/06/2021 08:00

Good morning, all! @poorpaws I hope you had a lovely day out and enjoyed the Ploughman's.

I am still mostly sticking to my healthy eating plan - though measuring it by what I would have had/eaten rather than in absolute terms, IYSWIM.

So: 2 days (I failed to post yesterday) of 12k steps, 2l water and the rest:

Hotel breakfast: poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado. 1 mini pastry, 1 slice brown toast (what I really wanted: a full fry-up). Both days.

Lunch: chicken and feta salad. A few pieces of baklava. Another day: feta and watermelon salad. Dark chocolate.

D: duck a l'orange. Half a dessert (what I really wanted: the full dessert, and chips on the side of the duck). Another day: red onion and cheese pasta. Dark chocolate.

I have a wedding this weekend and my interim goal was to look glowy and at least a wee bit trimmer for that. So the next few days will involve lots of salmon, eggs and berries (a sort of bastardised version of the Perricone diet).

poorpaws · 24/06/2021 08:05

Good morning everyone

I have already started the day badly. I just couldn’t tolerate scrambled eggs this morning so I’ve had a huge bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes, huge it was! Yesterday took a nosedive too as far as food is concerned. I just felt hungry all day especially in the evening and I succumbed to more than I should have. For the rest of today I have to do a bit of making up.

I hope you are all doing well, keeping to your plans and doing plenty of exercise. I have to play catch up today.

@MrsMime yes we were on Dartmoor yesterday, we had the most lovely day in the sunshine. I don’t know if any of these places will mean anything to you (probably will do to your DP) but we had a short walk on Bellator, then went to Princetown for lunch (where the prison is on Dartmoor) then went on to Burrator and walked part of the old railway track then went down to the reservoir and sat in the most beautiful secluded area. I know some people find it boring but I love the stillness of the place and we go quite often in summer because the dogs love it too.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 24/06/2021 08:14

@Guestdressquery I hope you are enjoying your holiday and you seem to be doing a very good damage limitation. I wish I had your restraint but I know if I was there I’d be eating everything on the menu, well all the desserts at least 😀

I feel as if I’m falling off the wagon a bit yesterday and this morning and I can’t afford to make any more eating mistakes. I did a food shop last night and bought a lot of strawberries and raspberries so that will probably be lunch with some yoghurt. I can feel everything slipping away from me and I have to rein everything back in before I go to mad and ruin what I’ve done so far.

OP posts:
FunnyWonder · 24/06/2021 09:41

I had a bit of a crappy day yesterday. All was well until dinner time, when I couldn't decide what to cook. I tried to discuss it with DP and he did this thing he frequently does of saying 'what did we have yesterday?' whereupon I have to bite my tongue not to say 'well, if you can't remember, does it matter if we have something similar today?' Anyway, he couldn't have said anything right because I was in a terrible mood (chocolate withdrawalGrin) so I made something for the DC. Then I harumphed about muttering for a while. And then I realised I was starving and ate a load of old crap.

I am, however, back on track today ... suitably chastened!

MegBusset · 24/06/2021 16:38

Afternoon all. I had a migraine yesterday plus I'm premenstrual, both of which make me crave sugar as well as feel generally grotty. I've managed to stay within calories though (assuaging the sugar need with some raspberries and a Jaffa Cake mini roll) and am not even slightly tempted to have alcohol.

Off to Zumba tonight so hoping that perks me up a bit.

Keep on keeping on Smile

MegBusset · 24/06/2021 16:40

@poorpaws I have to stay off bowls of sugary cereal altogether as I have no off switch with them. For breakfast I have Oatibix as it's a fixed portion, or porridge in winter.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 24/06/2021 20:59

Like everyone else I had a ropey few days, didn't do much exercise.

Feeling a bit better today though, I did a workout and stuck to my 8 hour eating window - had porridge with fruit for breakfast, tomato and brie on seeded bread for lunch, and broccoli and spinach omelette for dinner.

I did snack on dark chocolate and popcorn, but generally stayed within my calories.

Trying to get used to no eating after dinner, so having to make do with herbal tea while I fast until breakfast tomorrow. I'm hoping it gets easier, as I'm obsessing about food at the moment!

poorpaws · 24/06/2021 21:34

I’m really struggling this evening, I can’t see a weight loss for me this week🙁 think I’ll have an early night.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 25/06/2021 08:51

Good morning everyone

After a very difficult night im back on track this morning. It’s always, always the evenings that are my downfall. I think I’m going to have a lazier day today. I’ve been doing too much lately and I feel exhausted all the time, although I regularly say things like this and then have a very busy day again.

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping to their plan. If you aren't doing so well, just do what you can, little steps ...

OP posts:
redkiteflying · 25/06/2021 09:06

Hi everyone, hope I can join? I was on another thread that petered out and I also fell off the wagon for a month.
I've lost half a stone of my lockdown pounds but would really like to lose another half at least, ideally a stone by end of august.
I haven't really fallen back into old habits food wise except for biscuits! So, restarting cutting the biscuits out today.

Guestdressquery · 25/06/2021 09:20

I can sympathise, OP - yesterday was not brilliant for me either. Am trying to remind myself of what PP had written ie that I didn't put the lockdown weight on overnight so can't expect to have lost it overnight either.

Yesterday: 10k steps, 1.5l water.
B: overnight oats, strawberries, almonds.
L: salmon, cottage cheese, feta and watermelon salad. Ricotta and peach slice (Gail's - and utterly delicious!)
D: salmon, roasted carrots, asparagus. Ricotta and peach slice (yes, it was so good that I went out to get another one).

Snack: Ritter chocolate. Quite a bit. Not sure why I ate it? Except was feeling a bit meh about going to my ex's wedding this weekend and being a bit chunkier than I was the last time everyone saw me!
