Lockdown stones to lose, please join me

I’ve joined many diet threads on here over the years and in time they have all crumbled into dust. This time it’s dire so I’ve decided to create my own post for the first time and just hope some lovely people will join me and this time stick to it until we are all thinner and happier with our bodies.

During the first lockdown I managed to lose a stone and was overjoyed. Last November my partner moved in with me for six months and whilst I fed him large meals I ate the same plus a lot of evening snacking. He is thin and can eat a lot of food without weight gain because he has a manual job. He left three weeks ago and I have eaten even more food. I can’t fit into any of my clothes apart from a couple of baggy t-shirts and some very old stretch jeans, which to add insult to injury ripped today.

I have to do something NOW. I think (am pretty sure) I have gained 2.1/2 stones. I am 5ft 4 and tomorrow I will face the scales and really lose it this time. Please if anyone is feeling overweight, lethargic and totally overwhelmed by weight gain, do join me, make me feel better and help yourself too.

Still feeling motivated

Yesterday I had a lunch with friends but stuck to chicken Caesar salad. Also couldn't resist sweet potato chips but I felt full all day so skipped dinner. So unlike me! Hopefully stomach shrinking

Today: weetabix x 2

Lunch: left over mushroom risotto (small)

Dinner: quorn fajitas with two mini wraps and low fat creme fraiche

Snack/ boiled egg

Startoftheyear2021 · 17/06/2021 05:58

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl it must be tough if your partner is overweight and not joining you. I agree about needing friends (online wherever) to keep me on track with dieting. I wish I had my own motivation!
Anyway, ok day for most of yesterday but terrible evening as I went out for dinner with friends! Lots of wine so that's terrible for calories.
Should be able to stay on the straight and narrow today though.
Good luck everyone!

Guestdressquery · 17/06/2021 07:20

Anyone else find yesterday particularly tricky because of the heat? I felt lethargic all day - which then meant I started craving sugar!

Only 7k steps yesterday (too warm!) but my full 2l water and then some.

B: overnight oats, strawberries, almonds.
L: toast, carrots, low fat hummus. 2 squares chocolate.
Snack: 4 small crackers, hummus.
D: pasta/tomato/basil salad. 1.5 venison sausages. 2 squares chocolate.

Beginning to wonder whether I should get some scales to track progress/milestones between measurement changes. What do you all use? I have bad experiences of electronic scales in the past (you stepped on them 3 times in 3 consecutive minutes and it gave you 3 wildly different numbers).

poorpaws · 17/06/2021 08:15

Good morning lovelies, another day in paradise 🥴 it’s raining here.

I’m not sure what today will bring for me, I’ve got a lot of planting to do and the obligatory dog walk but I think it’s going to be quite a boring day which is worrying food wise because I will want to snack.

@Guestdressquery
I found yesterday tricky too because of the heat, it makes me quite lazy but then I get guilty because my 0H Works hard in any weather. I find the raspberry specially selected ice lollies in Aldi help. They are very fruity and about 62 cals each I believe. They have them in raspberry, orange and coconut and in hot weather I normally have two but it’s still not that many calories ( and much better than scoffing chocolate).

If it were me I would get some scales because I’m a bit addicted to weighing. I’ve tried in the past to diet without scales but I need them to check my weight because for me just my clothes isn’t accurate enough. Mine are Salter electronic (I’ve had no end of scales in the past). I agree they do fluctuate but mine don’t fluctuate wildly. I always weigh three times consecutively and they are probably quarter of a pound out sometimes. I know a lot of people don’t need to weigh But I really do. I only acknowledge Monday weigh-days but sometimes weigh a couple of times within the week but good or bad I ignore these readings until it’s Monday again.

Have a good day everyone and I hope it’s fine wherever you live (apparently it’s going to be fine here by lunch time. We call my 0H Mr fish (weatherman) because he always knows what the weather is doing and what it’s going to do. Damned annoying that he’s nearly always right 🙄

Morning all!

It's my birthday today Smile so off to the coast for fish and chips tonight

FunnyWonder · 17/06/2021 10:03

@MegBusset Happy Birthday. If ever there was a day to have fish and chips, this is it. Have a lovely time!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 17/06/2021 10:08

Happy Birthday Meg, hope you have a lovely day.

It's a beautiful day here, so I'm going to get out for a long walk later on this afternoon. In the mean time I will try and stick to my calories for the day and not let my raging hormones lead me to stuffing my face as they usually do.

I hope everyone is doing well.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/06/2021 10:17

Happy birthday @MegBusset!! Enjoy fish and chips and the seaside!

@Guestdressquery I spent some happy time wandering round Tesco yesterday enjoying their air con Grin they had run out of the DC's favourite ice creams but hey ho! Have you tried making banana ice cream (essentially frozen banana whizzed up till it's creamy) or yogurt bark as a sweet treat if you fancy it? I have Salter electronic scales too, had them for almost 10 years now, they were only about £10 from Argos at the time. I found the manual ones were too easy to cheat on Blush

Ah wine @Startoftheyear2021, it is not my friend when I'm trying to lose weight! apart from it being calorific in itself etc, it makes me want to eat crisps by the shedload. And yes, it's very frustrating about DP - he keeps saying "I really need to lose a bit of weight" but has made no effort to go back to the gym and will hoover up the DC's leftovers and any snacks around even after I've made him a healthy, filling dinner. We could be supporting each other but he'd rather make snidey comments about my weight to make himself feel a bit better Hmm - no real wonder that I go online for support, is it?

I Shredded again today @unicornsandchocolate, that's twice this week. I'll have abs like Anita by next week, right?! never going to happen

Lostmyunicorn · 17/06/2021 10:21

Happy Birthday Meg! Enjoy your trip to the seaside.
Yesterday was ok. Salad for lunch, some melba toast and a small amount of cheese, two yoghurts and an apple for dinner. I’m heading out with the dog now and going to try to fit in the gym later on.

poorpaws · 17/06/2021 11:43

@MegBusset happy birthday, I hope you have a lovely day. You do know that birthday calories don’t count, right?

OP posts:
unicornsandchocolate · 17/06/2021 22:57

Happy birthday @MegBusset !

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl oh how I'd love abs like Anita!!

I went out for dinner but had a broccoli salad and I drove so didn't give into the wine calories.

Hoping tomorrow will be ok and I don't go into weekend mode to early!

poorpaws · 18/06/2021 08:00

Good morning all, I hope you have a good day fighting the flab.

I really struggled last night. I’d eaten enough but in the evening wanted more. I had Sensation crisps in the cupboard, a large bag, and they were calling to me to eat them. For about two hours I was giving in to temptation and then not and eventually I thought if I did eat them I would be furious with myself this morning and if I didn’t eat them I would be so thrilled with myself this morning. I went to bed without eating them and this morning, exactly as predicted, I woke up and the first thing I thought of was I didn’t eat those crisps. Goodness I think I might be losing it 🤔

Have a good day everyone.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/06/2021 10:31

Well done on crisp avoidance @poorpaws Grin

I was going to run today but we have monsoon conditions here, so I Shredded instead; I don't mind running in the rain but after dropping the DC to school I was already wet through! @unicornsandchocolate I gazed enviously at Anita's abs again - perhaps if I ever learn to do Natalie-style push ups I'll have abs like that?!

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 18/06/2021 11:31

Clara oh my god, I had such a girl crush on Anita when I used to do the 30 Day Shred Grin.

It's such a battle of wills poorpaws well done on not giving in. Evening snacks are my downfall as well.

I'm hoping that I do better with calories today, have had coffee and porridge so far. I will do some sort of workout later and hopefully go for a walk.

Feel like I'm back on track after a few not so great days. I'm mindful that there is a weigh in on Monday so have to do good over the weekend!

I hope everyone has a good Friday.

FunnyWonder · 18/06/2021 11:37

Well, I'm still trundling along here!

@poorpaws That was brilliant, closing your ears to the call of those crisps. It's so hard. And when there's a crisp shaped hole in your stomach, sometimes nothing else will fill it. I love Walkers Sensations, especially the Thai Sweet Chilli ones.

I didn't get much walking done yesterday. DS sabotaged my attempts to get him to walk to school by plonking himself on the toilet and not budging. I'm sure he does it deliberately. We had to take the car, but I parked further away than usual! I did do a kettlebell workout - one round of each exercise, but will increase to two next time. I'm still a bit concerned that I'm going to lose my grip and fling the kettlebell out the window or drop it on my foot (or, even worse, the wooden floor🤣) Eating wise, not too bad. A couple of chocolate sweets might have made their way into my mouth, but that's ok if I'm being careful overall. The important thing is that I've managed to stop myself from just keeping on going with the snacking - this needs to be sustainable and I can't imagine a life with no treats.

So far today, have done my 30 min run. I had overnight oats (soaked in a little apple juice) with plain yoghurt, kiwi and strawberries. It was like a dessert! In fact I might have it for dessert some evening ...

Hope everyone's doing ok.

poorpaws · 18/06/2021 17:35

I’ve worked hard today and I’m absolutely shattered but it feels good that I’ve been moving all day (with a little groaning as I got up and down) rather than sitting down being lazy.

@FunnyWonder they were exactly the crisps calling my name, the Thai Sweet Chilli ones, they are soooo tasty. I’ve bought big bags before with six smaller bags inside which means I can do damage limitation but this was just the big bag with LOTS of crisps in and I knew if I started it I could (would) eat them all. The problem is they are still in the cupboard and they know my name.

Mullets

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/06/2021 20:38

Sorry, posted too soon whilst trying to watch the football

Mullets I was disillusioned of having any resemblance to Anita's abs when I had a cuddle with DS1 earlier on the sofa and asked him if he'd like a cushion to lie on... "no thank you Mummy, your belly is squishy enough"

I keep meaning to buy some more kettlebells/ hand weights @poorpaws - my weights are 2kg each and I feel like I could possibly definitely try something a bit heavier - I think mine were only from Argos or similar, will see how much it is for a heavier set.

@FunnyWonder I bought some of the new Tyrells BBQ flavour crisps 'just to try' a couple of weeks ago - had to persuade the DC to eat some too just so I wouldn't scoff the lot Blush

poorpaws · 19/06/2021 07:54

Good morning everyone

I hope you all have a good weekend and manage to stay on track. Mondays weigh-in is looming so I’m hoping to have a healthy eating weekend. I never seem to do well on week 2, I usually don’t lose so I’m trying hard this weekend because any loss would make me happy.

So what have you got planned?

OP posts:
MrsMime · 19/06/2021 09:10

I've only lost a pound so far this week which is a bit frustrating but I will persevere. Doing a mix of housework and planning for work next week today but will make sure I get some exercise in first. I use a rebounder as it's good fun and easy on the joints. Need to get some wrist/small hand weights so I can tone my arms at the same time.

MrsMime · 19/06/2021 09:12

I've managed to avoid scoffing all the chocolates I got as gifts two weeks ago from all my students who were leaving. It's difficult as I often hear them call my name from the fridge! Need to work out how many calories per chocolate then I can divide them up into diet-friendly size portions!
The kids have offered to 'help' me eat them Grin

FunnyWonder · 19/06/2021 09:27

@MrsMime I used to love my rebounder. But sadly, after having DS1, I felt as if all my insides were about to drop out. DS actually got quite a bit of fun out of it before he got a trampoline!

I decided to have an early weigh in and have lost another 2lbs. I might put one back on before Monday because ... well, because weekend! But I'm very pleased. I had a huge clear out of old clothes a while back, but kept a few things I liked which were too small. My goal is to fit into them again. I won't give a stuff about being too small for my more recent purchases, believe me!

MrsMime · 19/06/2021 09:28

@FunnyWonder I often have to pause and have another wee Blush

Agadorsparticus · 19/06/2021 10:37

Had a little blow out last night but no alcohol which is virtually unheard of for me. I've made up for it by a 55min body combat session this morning.
We have a butcher wholesalers near us and we've stocked up on eggs, chicken breast and lean steak.
Fasting and smaller portions is doing well (other than the licorice all-sorts last night) and 5 tough workouts so far this week. I definitely feel less bloated.
