Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

Well done @Onesmallstep67. I have also lost 3lbs since the weekend (although I think a bit of that might be hormonal rather than "proper" weight loss). The challenge will be not putting it all back on over the weekend.

Speaking of people who can eat and eat without gaining weight, my already pretty slim DH gave up alcohol for a month and has lost 12lbs. He now keeps trying to give me smug advice on weight loss because he considers himself an expert now! If anyone is thinking of putting down a new patio can you give me a shout...?

@Onesmallstep67

Morning. How's everyone doing ? Don't know if anyone saw the programme last night about how some slim people seem to be able to eat whatever they want and never put on weight ? One guy appeared to eat a lot but did it at regular intervals and pretty much the same thing every day. Another woman was flagged up for eating lots of food but from a very wide range of sources and her diet contained lots of vegetables and vinegar ( broadly speaking) The last girl ate lots of takeaway and convenience stuff but her hunger seemed to be in very short bursts lots of times through the day and she rarely finished any meal or snack and felt 'satisfied' quickly. For her the expert opinion was that her body responded well to the hormones that control appetite; the girl who ate a very wide range of foods had an extremely healthy range of bacteria in her gut - which they implied helped - and the guy who ate most of his food early in the day was doing something intuitive that his body responded to ( sorry a bit fuzzy on that one) What was amazing is that they calculated calories eaten against needs and pretty much it was even. Anything between about 1900 calories and 2300. To me it looked like they were consuming lots more calories than that. It was an interesting watch. I am not offering this up by way of an excuse but I have always felt that what I ate didn't match what I weighed. At college in my 20s I lived with a girl who ate huge amounts whenever she wanted and just didn't put on any weight whereas I always struggled. Down 3lbs from last weekend so that's a huge motivator for me. 6 weeks until my event, ideally another 9lbs loss would be amazing but 6lbs would be great. Have a great day everyone
What was the programme please?

I've found my people!

I will be joining you all if that's okay. I have a massive amount of weight to lose, currently weigh over 20 stone. Have lost almost 2.5 stone since January on the low carb bootcamp but I'm definitely going to post here too. My next goal is shifting a teeny weeny 2lbs to get me below the 20stone which feels like a big step. I've spent my entire adult life yo-yo dieting. In the last 10 years I've stopped going from thin to fat, and started to yo-yo between fat and massively fat. I'm done. This is the time I change it.

Low carb works for me and intermittent fasting works naturally with it due to the way the high fat element suppresses my appetite.

Thanks for having me, I'm off to have a look at the original thread

theotherfossilsister · 29/04/2021 11:42

Just about to walk to my co working space. It's such a small thing but feels like a mountain. I will get the bus back however as I can't do that much brave in one day.

Period due so looking huge with lovely pink balloon face.

harknesswitch · 29/04/2021 12:27

For the first time in weeks I managed to go a whole evening, after tea, just wasting a few bits of fruit rather than sabotaging my day with sweets or high calorie food

Could you possibly link to the newest low carb boot amp thread? There are so many I am totally confused.

I’m trying to hit my 10,000 steps a day. I caved and had half a fish and chips yesterday but am trying not to be too hard on myself. I just wish I hadn’t let my weight get so out of control to the point that I have stones to lose rather than a few pounds. But onwards and downwards.

ouchmyfeet · 29/04/2021 17:41

@mermaidsariel this is the latest thread:

Week 3 - Leaving Lockdown Bootcamp http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/lowcarbb_bootcamp/4228728-Week-3-Leaving-Lockdown-Bootcamp

There is a new one every week. We are on week 3 of 10 at the moment but you can just jump in at any time, they are a friendly bunch.

You'll find a spreadsheet linked in the first post of the thread which has tonnes of information and resources in it. It's really helpful.

mermaidsariel · 29/04/2021 18:09

Thank you!!

Peachypips78 · 29/04/2021 19:09

Afternoon all. First week is going well- I've lost 2 pounds, updated my spreadsheet every day, stuck to 1800 cals a day and 15,000 steps.

It's all very well but I am always on it at the beginning and then I crumble! Really trying to stick with it this time, as I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol, so the concerns about health rather than aesthetics really resonated with me.

Harpydragon · 29/04/2021 20:34

I am so happy, I have just got weighed at SW and have lost 9lbs in my first week😁.

That has dropped me into the next stone band (just) & I am over the moon. I know most of that is water weight this week, but it's one heck of a boost.

You only had half a fish and chips though. Give yourself a pat on the back!
sylv165 · 30/04/2021 06:40

@Harpydragon 9lbs?!! That's amazing 🤩

Harpydragon · 30/04/2021 07:22

@sylv165 @mermaidsariel

Thank you, just shows how Crap I was eating before and also if i eat cleaner what a difference it can make. It's definitely motivated me for this next week to keep going.
I know the following week is going to be hard as I'm having an operation on my hand and won't be able to cook, so I'm digging out recipes this week that my husband and son can use to cook for me! All I have to do them is not start eating out of boredom.

Roussette · 30/04/2021 08:14

I do feel a bit demoralised... I weigh once a week on a Friday morning. I have been so so good this week, and I've lost just 1 lb. I know that is OK but it just seems like so much work and such a long battle.
I've been spending all week cooking low calorie meals, lots of time spent shopping and getting all the ingredients for meals that we can eat together, I've cut out most of the carbs... all for 1 measly pound!

Arghhhh

Onesmallstep67 · 30/04/2021 09:16

@Harpydragon, well done, a great start and huge motivator I'm sure.
@Roussette, 1lb is a pound in the right direction. Not sure how much dieting you have done in the past but I found during my 4 stone loss don't mention the regain I was sometimes good for days and no loss , then out of the blue 3lbs might disappear.
Still -3lbs for the week so happy with that. My aim for the next week is another loss obviously but also to trim out some of the calories from snacking and try to increase the quality and quantity of what I eat as my meals so I am more satisfied. I am clearly addicted to food. I 'save' calories so that I can snack in the evening. I hate the feeling that I have had my last food of the day. For this reason alone I find fasting very challenging, it's the opposite of my natural, learned mindset.

Roussette · 30/04/2021 09:37

Onesmallstep67 Thank you and I know you are right. And yes... I have lost 5 stone before so it is very up and down. I could not cope with weighing daily!

My DD has just given me a good talking to and told me to pick up a bag of sugar and imagine I've lost half of that, which is so true, can't believe I've brought up such a sensible girl Grin

Hey @Roussette congrats on the -1lb! You're going the right way, be proud of yourself
altlife · 30/04/2021 10:14

I've just done W1R3, my calves hurt :( But happy I completed it.

I haven't weighed this week, I've eaten rubbish most of the week so given myself a stern talking to and hope to make some better choices over the weekend.

It's so hard though Sad

Thank you altlife.

And I did do W2R2 this morning because I just know how easy it is to let things slip. (I lumbered around like a big bowling ball) And we're out tomorrow night and I just know there's going to be lots of food and drink so I have to keep in the right frame of mind.

I could have written that post, about saving calories and hating knowing I've finished.

I find that I'm much happier when I eat bigger meals in the day and don't save for bad snacks but it's hard.

I do love 18:6 fasting but have my fasts in the morning for that reason on not liking feeling 'finished'. So my window eating is usually 12-8 or 1-9.
