Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

Well after an absolutely horrible end to last year I’ve lost two stone, one ‘D’H and have gained an offer for a masters in September! Thank you @Roussette and all for the support in a truly hideous time.

I’m still incredibly shit at doing planks though.

@Slothkin
Oh god, that's awful. There is nothing worse than hearing or reading something about yourself like that. I feel for you.

And your foot, two bones broken, have you got to have it plastered! Sorry to hear you're being put through the mill at the moment. Flowers

You were good at C25K, it just wasn't for me, I think I'm too old! I'm sure you can get straight back into it.

I walk. And walk and walk! Thank goodness for podcasts! It's just a bit cold at the moment, but I wrap up and tramp about listening to true crime podcasts.

I'm not shifting the last weight so easily but I suppose there's less to shift and I am a bit worried about keeping this weight off. However, because I feel so much better, I am determined not to let it slip again (like I did before). I've been a size 10 and I've been a size 20 and all sizes in between!

Good luck @sylv165

Slothkin.... hope the foot's OK. Ouch!

Yes very well done @Roussette! You must feel completely transformed. Once I get Christmas out of the way I am going back to c25k. Hopefully shouldn't be as difficult this time as it hasn't been too long since I stopped. Fingers crossed anyway!

I’m definitely losing inches even if the scales aren’t moving - although I was a bit too proud of my new muscles and dropped a table on my foot. Well done Slothkin, you show the patriarchy what for.

And such congratulations @Roussette! That’s a great achievement, you should be really proud of yourself. We can do it!

Thanks @sylv165 and @Roussette, I’m doing okay! Touch wood anyway 😄 planning to do a big batch cooking session this weekend so I’ve no excuse not to eat well. Luckily I really like soup when it’s so cold!

Hi @sylv165 and @Slothkin

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, when something gets difficult, it knocks trying to lose weight.
I hope you're OK Slothkin and Sylv I hope you get the right meds

I've kept going and just relieved I haven't given up because I feel so much better.
I have lost 2st 10lbs in total and I'm just 5lbs off my target weight but nothing is moving and I'm finding it hard to maintain which has always been my problem. I'm far hungrier in the winter.

Good wishes to you both Smile

Oh no @Slothkin that's tough. Very sorry to hear that, dieting must be the last thing in your mind with everything else you have going on. Are you ok?

Slothkin · 23/11/2021 20:15

Hi @sylv165! I’m back in the game now, sadly my husband decided to file for divorce just after I got back from my folks so dieting went out the window. Fingers crossed on the home straight now so looking forward to what life can be rather than mourning what it could have been.

Is anyone still on the chat? I've been quiet for a very long time as things just weren't going the right direction for me. No matter how hard I was trying the weight just wasn't shifting and I was generally feeling pretty rubbish. Went to the doctor and eventually persuaded her to do some blood tests, which indicated that I have an underactive thyroid and a bunch of vitamin deficiencies. Which at least explains why I was feeling so rubbish for a while! They won't medicate me yet for the thyroid as they want me to take some supplements to see if that improves my symptoms. So I'm probably not going to make much progress with weight loss until that happens. But I at least feel a bit more positive that there is a reason for it, not just me being rubbish. How is everyone else getting on? Hoping you have all kept on track and seen some good progress!

As anticipated, I've put on weight but I'm abroad for a stretch, the lifestyle is not good for weight loss and I've piled on 4lbs even though I've swerved the bread but not the alcohol unfortunately.

However yesterday I saw someone I haven't seen since covid and she said... you've lost weight haven't you. That was nice.

I still am in the right frame of mind but need to come home to keep tackling it!

Hope you're all keeping on!

I had an absolutely lovely time with my folks, my Mum was so sweetly supportive! I definitely need to buy them a sodastream before I next go up so I don’t bankrupt them with my fizzy water habit though 😂

Aw thank you @sylv165, I didn’t mean my Mum would be critical or anything she just worries about me! And still doubts my ability to feed myself properly 😂

@Roussette your story about your aunt made me laugh so much!

Report
Roussette · 29/08/2021 07:27

Your post does remind me of a dear Aunt of mine slothkin... I'm not poking fun in your visit with your Mum, but it just reminded me.

This Aunt was honestly my most favourite relation ever, the kindest most lovely person, I would always try and see her when visiting the DPs (although my DM hated that I did, bit of jealousy there!)
.
Anyway, I think I mentioned on these threads I lost 5 stone about 15 years ago, and hadn't seen her for quite a while. When I went in, she looked at me, grabbed me for a hug like she always does and said ...
'oh dear, oh dear, what have you done, I so preferred you fat!'

From her there was no malice in it, and I laughed and laughed... what could I say?!

I hope your visit went ok @Slothkin. You are so much more than just your weight so I hope your mum doesn't just focus on that xx

I get incredibly sweaty when I am exercising hard - to the extent I slip off my yoga mat towards the end of a session! My lovely instructor has said this is why he uses chalk for handstands.

I’m a little anxious because I’m going up to visit my Mum soon and I know she won’t see anything but my weight and will be worried about me and I can’t exactly say ‘no stay there and watch me do core exercises!’.

Once upon a time when I was very fit, I still got the beetroot face! I liked to think it is because I worked harder than anyone else in the gym but time has proven that it is just some unfortunate genetic thing

Red wine and steak is tomorrow! I just cannot do this over a weekend, I pull it all back on Sunday morning.

Me and youngest DD both have what we call 'tomato face' when we exercise! She's just joined a new really hardcore gym and tomato face is very present for her! No idea why she gets this, she's as fit as a flea. Unlike me.
I couldn't do a handstand if I was paid!

Oh yes, red wine and steak here tonight! I've not had any wine all week so I am really looking forward to the treat. @Slothkin if you manage a full handstand I will be incredibly impressed, that is serious fitness! I went for a run today and looked like a beetroot by the time I got home. More practice needed!
