Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

I live middle of countryside and the only PT around here is a guy who does some painting and decorating for us.
I really cannot imagine him putting me through my paces, it would be like getting our postie to do therapy sessions Grin

sylv165 · 30/07/2021 07:42

I didn't quite meet my 2lb goal, but I almost got there. 1.5lbs this week. Not bad as I was slightly sidetracked by the fact that I now have a 3 year old in isolation, so haven't been able to fit in much exercise!

Roussette · 30/07/2021 08:08

Well done sylv! 1.5lbs is pretty damn good and it's not easy when we can't do exactly what we want because of outside factors.

I actually have lost 2lbs this week, and I'm over the moon. I have upped the walking distance, no idea if that's helped. Did 5 miles yesterday but I was knackered after, and it takes so much time.
I am 1lb away from a 2stone loss, and I do feel much better for it. I have to hang on in there, I would love to lose just over 1 more stone so I can wear some of the clothes I've got.

Keep going everyone!

sylv165 · 30/07/2021 08:14

Ah @Roussette that's fantastic! 2lbs today and 2 stone overall - you must notice a huge difference when you look back to where you started. Especially when you haven't stripped all the fun out of your life and still allowed yourself to enjoy the odd nice dinner and boozy weekend!

Roussette · 30/07/2021 09:09

Thanks, and yes, I think if you take it too far, it's easier to give up. I really look forward to weekends... I eat and drink what I want more or less on Fridays and Saturdays (and rein it back in on Sunday onwards)
Yippee it's Friday!

Slothkin · 30/07/2021 16:24

I did a barre class yesterday and thought I was going to die.

sylv165 · 30/07/2021 19:19

Is that like a ballet thing @Slothkin? I did a ballet based workout on Les Mills and was wrecked after, definitely harder than it looks. I had a newfound respect for my 9 year old dancer daughter afterwards!

Roussette · 30/07/2021 19:46

I have googled barre. I am too fat, too old, too unsupple to do any of it!

Onesmallstep67 · 31/07/2021 09:27

Happy Saturday everyone and well done on the losses and fitness activity! You look great in your photos too, I’d be delighted to look as slim as you all do !
I’m still feeling the after affects of COVID. It’s left me a bit drained and with irritated sinuses. Following any kind of diet has gone out of the window and the gnawing feeling you get when your stomach is empty turns into nausea with me so I am eating at regular intervals. No alcohol and limited cravings has seen another lb come off. Finishing July with a 4lbs loss overall. Fingers crossed for August. Enjoy your weekend losers Smile

Roussette · 31/07/2021 11:25

Sorry to hear Onesmall you are still suffering the after effects of Covid, hopefully that recedes soon!
Have a good weekend too

Slothkin · 31/07/2021 13:02

It was @sylv165, my usual class was cancelled and I thought it would be relaxing (laughs bitterly). I had to barrel roll out of bed yesterday and my husband said ‘graceful ballerina Slothkin?’ and was lucky my limbs were too feeble to chuck a cuddly toy at him.

Slothkin · 03/08/2021 15:08

Well went in for a bra fitting and I’m on the next band size down; I look so much better with a properly fitting bra! I’d been feeling a bit down that I looked quite fusty in clothes I’d been looking forward to wearing and everything now looks all sleek, I’m feeling really motivated!

Roussette · 03/08/2021 17:45

A good bra, the right size makes all the different. I think my boobs are shrinking a bit, I hope so!

Glad to hear you're motivated Slothkin... we have to keep on keeping on!

Lookin' good Slothkin
Great figure. Smile

sylv165 · 20/08/2021 10:01

How are you all doing? I had my holiday last week, which involves lots of food, wine and a 4lb gain. Oops. Have been angelic all week and managed to lose....0.5lbs. This is going to be a slow process!!!

Roussette · 20/08/2021 13:04

Hi @sylv165

I'm still slogging on! I can feel a difference, I should jolly well hope so given I've lost 2stone 3lbs in total as of today, phew.

I have 12lbs to go and I think it is going to be long and tortuous.

Losing after a holiday is fine sylv because it just means the right head set doesn't it...

My problem is... we are away for a long period in a couple of weeks, (visiting family abroad) and it is going to be really really hard to keep on track because we eat and drink non stop when we're there, I so much don't want to undo what I have managed.

sylv165 · 20/08/2021 14:15

I think that is the most frustrating thing for me @Roussette. I was actually starting to feel a difference, then gained a few lbs when my parents moved in, then another few on holiday and before I know it I’m back where I started! 2st3lbs is absolutely fantastic though! I bet you do notice a difference. Well done - even if you gain a pound or two on holiday at least you know you’ve lost it one and can do it again

Roussette · 20/08/2021 14:19

Yes, I get the frustrations!

It is just constant all of this now isn't it. It's not been easy and I do worry I'll lose everything I want but then just go back to 'normal', which is greedy!
I am hoping not because I am so pleased with myself at the moment, but I have been here before!

Slothkin · 20/08/2021 17:41

I’m very much stuck at the same weight but seeing big differences in my fitness and inches in some places - the one place it’s not budging is my belly, so I think sadly that’s going to involve some really strict work to shift which is something I have to be careful about.

Slothkin · 20/08/2021 17:45

BUT yesterday I managed an L-handstand and felt ridiculously proud of myself!

Roussette · 20/08/2021 17:48

Slothkin I use one of these and it helped with my belly years ago. It's not so brutal as sit ups without anything and manageable for an old bird like me!
I keep using it in the hope I can reduce the wobbly flab I have!

Defeated by fatness no more
Slothkin · 20/08/2021 18:10

Thanks @Roussette - I’m sure someone will have one gathering dust on ebay I can try!

Roussette · 20/08/2021 18:28

Yes, absolutely!

It's the only piece of equipment I've got. And it has helped me in the past when I lost a lot of weight a long time ago. I'm ever hopeful it will do the same again

Onesmallstep67 · 25/08/2021 15:04

Hi everyone, hope you are keeping well. I am finally beginning to feel back to normal following Covid but my dieting efforts have completely gone out of the window. Miraculously there has been no weight gain despite lots of eating and drinking with my DDs etc over recent weeks.
This thread has been great and I genuinely appreciated having a forum on which to share thoughts and feelings but it came down to a few of us core posters. I spotted this thread a couple of days ago and I have posted on there. Seems a fair bit busier for those of us who like a bit of regular 'support'
