Defeated by fatness no more

Happy Monday!

Following my thread last week about how I, and so many of us, are feeling like we're defeated by our weight, here's a support thread for those of us who don't want stop ourselves from living the lives we want any more.

There were some amazing stories shared and so much honesty about how this is a struggle for so many of us. Here's the thread for anyone wanting to read:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4225173-Defeated-by-my-fatness-am-I-alone

I know that I am sick of feeling ashamed of myself. Sick of hiding away. Sick of feeling that I'm judged for my weight. Sick of feeling that I'm letting myself and my family down. Sick of feeling that my inside doesn't match the outside. Sick of living in the same few outfits because everything else is too tight or looks terrible. Sick of seeking solace in food that doesn't nourish me. Sick of treating myself badly.

If you feel the same, come and join us! Everyone will have their own journey, their own approach and that's fine - please, no criticism or judgement of anyone's plan. The main aim is that we all take steps, every single day, to make ourselves feel better about ourselves.

For me, that means today will include drinking water, taking a long lunch and having a dog walk with a friend (this NEVER happens because work always comes first) and sticking with my Cambridge plan.

How about you?

Hi @Treaclepie19 👋. I know what you mean about cooking. I do Hello Fresh which is good for taking the thinking out of meal planning, but I have to choose carefully as sometimes the recipes can take hours!! And then my fussy children refuse to eat it.

Hopefully we both have our mojo back now and can stick with it for a while.

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 17:14

Hi @sylv165! I’m a newbie so lovely to meet you. I don’t think it’s remotely weird for plans to have gone to hell if you’re in the UK, particularly if you have small kids!

I must admit my parents’ approach to childcare in the summer was deposit us in a lake with any necessary arm bands and fetch us back out when lunch was over, around 6pm.

sylv165 · 26/07/2021 18:03

Hi @Slothkin! I was pretty committed for a while, but got derailed when my mum, stepdad and sister moved in with us. We all went into holiday mode, drinking every night. And as we were all cooking together I didn't feel like I could/wanted to eat separately. So it all went to pot really! They are still living with us, but it is going to go on for a while and I am just going to be huge if I don't cut it out now.

Hope you are seeing some progress!

Roussette · 26/07/2021 18:58

I don't know if it's harder in the summer or winter.

Summer - loads of bbqs, chilled glasses of wine, G&T's sat outside etc

Winter - comfort food, homemade soups with chunks of bread, mashed potato, casseroles, red wine, etc.

My conclusion is....

Both tricky!

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 19:14

@sylv165 before I make any suggestions do you have any cultural things going on, as in whoever the matriarch is in the house they will have last say on food?

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 19:17

I’m of Italian heritage so you didn’t argue with my Mum about food basically.

sylv165 · 26/07/2021 19:17

Agreed! I think I just like food and wine, whatever the season. Which makes for lots of fun, but also a massive arse Confused

sylv165 · 26/07/2021 19:19

No, no really unusual dynamics. The only major issue is that my mum and stepdad both drink very regularly. As in every night, more or less. But they have the ability to stop after 1 or 2 glasses of wine, whereas I don't have a stop button. It has been my downfall really- they insist on a glass with dinner and before I know it I've had 4!!

sylv165 · 26/07/2021 19:20

And we're northern Irish, so when they cook it is heavy on the potatoes and butter!

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 19:23

Oh that’s certainly not a failing just of yours! Would they be okay having a glass after you go to bed?

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 19:25

I love wine so I just can’t start unless it’s some ridiculous fancy wine I could never dream of again

Slothkin · 26/07/2021 19:44

From a food aspect I’ve just started eating huge amounts of greens and chucking high-flavour stuff in; garlic, anchovy, chilli, herbs

This probably doesn't help Slothkin but you don't look like 13 stone!

sylv165 · 27/07/2021 09:11

Well if you shared yours @Slothkin, here is mine. 5ft and 11stone. I was 8st 10 years ago and would love to get back to that, but I think 9st is more realistic.

sylv165 · 27/07/2021 09:12

Excuse my messy utility room!

Treaclepie19 · 27/07/2021 10:05

You both look great!
I don't even have a full length photo of me. Only underwear ones I took for my own progress.
I'm 14st 4 (this morning, 3lb down!) And 5ft 6. Target is 11 stone.

Roussette · 27/07/2021 11:49

You both look really fab!

Here's me... (not sure how long I will leave it up!).

5ft7, 12 stone and that's the dress I squashed myself into on Saturday!
Still plenty of bulges unfortunately but I am nearer 70 than 60 (can I use age as an excuse?!)

sylv165 · 27/07/2021 12:54

@Roussette I think you actually look pretty slim in that dress, and not squashed in at all!

Slothkin · 27/07/2021 13:10

That’s a lovely dress @Roussette and I think it fits well! @sylv165 you have such a flat stomach, I’m jealous!

My goal weight is 10st but I’m trying to appreciate my body as it is and enjoy the little wins along the way (although if the skin on my feet could stop sloughing off like a weird snake that’d be great ta).

Roussette · 27/07/2021 13:18

Thank you ... but side view was pretty horrendous!
Small steps here but we all keep going Smile

Russell19 · 27/07/2021 21:10

Can I just say all your pics look gorgeous! New here but just signed up to a 4 week PT course today. Had a body analysis thing done and it's really shocked me but think it has given me the kick I need.

Roussette · 27/07/2021 21:17

@Russell19

Welcome!

We can do this Smile

sylv165 · 28/07/2021 08:49

@Russell19 I'd love a PT! I have my eye on a transformation programme with a local personal trainer, but at holiday time I can't afford it so thinking maybe October time I might take the plunge. Sometimes I do need someone else to give me a good kick up the bum, it works!!

It's a group beginners thing so nothing too intensive (I hope!) So it's a little bit cheaper but still expensive.
