Fitbit Friends-anyone up for a Fitbit challenge?

FlatteredFool · 09/03/2021 23:17

I'm loving my Fitbit and get such a sense of achievement from all the stats. I don't run or do anything exciting, I just walk and am lucky to live in a hilly place so I tend to get plenty of floors into my daily goals. I was wondering if anyone fancied joining me and sharing their Fitbit goals and achievements to encourage ourselves and others? I'm not familiar with the challenges on the app as have no real life friends to do this with and am aware it might be a privacy issue so maybe we could share daily goals and achievements by screenshot or free text or however.

My goals are:

Steps 10,000
Floors 25
Active minutes 30
Distance 3 miles

My stats for today are:

Steps 20,097
Floors 81
Active minutes 125
Distance 8.28 miles

The school run is 5 miles at a minimum and today I've taken a longer route on the way home both times but gone the quick way there. There's big hills involved and I live in a town house so floors are fairly easy to come by. I don't drive so walk everywhere which helps too.

Please come and join me for an active Spring! If anyone knows how to do the challenges/trophies thing and remain anonymous then please let me know.

I have a Fitbit charge and have no idea how to
Log exercise on it?
I’m doing 30 min tyres intense HIT daily but have no idea how to
Log exercise ?

Jumpers268 · 20/03/2021 20:54

@MegMogandOg on mine I swipe right from the front screen, and then choose "exercise". It normally auto recognises but depends on how slow I'm walking.

Is anyone up for a bingo challenge starting tomorrow? The one I'm doing with my sister is for 30 days, but we can do one for one week? It sure is motivating - as you can see, we are neck and neck at 2 tiles each.

The tiles are for steps, distance and active minutes. Word of warning - don't flip over the tiles that aren't on your pattern. I flipped over a tile for 211 active minutes and it took my accumulated active minutes down by 211, and it wasn't even on my pattern.

It doesn't affect your stats outwith the game, but whatever tile you flip over removes that number from your bingo total.

We don't have to start tomorrow if anyone would rather begin on another day? Also, the length of time can be anything from 1 hour to 30 days, if anyone has a preference other than 7 days?

@Huggybear16 yes I'm happy do the bingo one! Would prefer 7 days as I'll remember then haha but don't mind Smile.

Huggybear16 · 21/03/2021 09:20

Yay @Jumpers268! The active minutes will be easy for you if you're stepping Wink

I'll make one now to start tomorrow. I'll add everyone - if you don't want in then you can just decline the request.

Stronghold · 21/03/2021 09:27

Yy to a challenge Smile my ankle is on the mend finally (touch wood).

In case anyone else ends up unable to walk much; I've been trying to stay active this week by bouncing on my yoga ball chair, and doing small YouTube workout routines on it throughout the day.

Bounces count as steps on fitbit, although I'm not personally thinking of them that way. Hopefully it has helped me to maintain some core strength.

There are also seated cardio workouts on YouTube, some of which are suitably strenuous!

Huggybear16 · 21/03/2021 09:34

Yay @Stronghold!
That's good to know about bounces. I think you should count it - it exercises and strengthens your core, and you're using muscles doing that.
I don't have an exercise ball. I'm wondering if I should get one? How often do use yours? Have you noticed much of a difference with using it?

Stronghold · 21/03/2021 09:49

I love it! But also, I have adhd and struggle to stay still. I have a Yo-Yo exercise desk bike, and a yoga ball for my other desk, and I usually think of these things as things which help me to stay a bit sane and able to stay in one spot, rather than exercise tools (if you see what I mean).

Having started using the ball this week for proper exercise, I'm definitely using it in future too, as it feels great.

Some evenings this week I sat watching movies in the evening while "bouncing" and that made them much easier to sit through, so I'll be doing that in future too.

So in short, I hugely recommend giving one a try, and it could be especially great if you don't like sitting still generally!

Huggybear16 · 21/03/2021 10:16

Ah, that does sound good Stronghold. I like exercise that I can do watching TV! I'll have a look on Amazon today. Thanks!

Stronghold · 21/03/2021 10:23

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072QKYBH4/ I think this is the one I have!

Huggybear16 · 21/03/2021 10:57

Fab, thanks Strong. Looks like I'll need a 55cm - I'm very short! I'll let you know when it arrives 💪

Shufflebumnessie · 21/03/2021 15:10

Apologies for jumping in on this thread but I really need to get motivated to move more/lose weight.
I'm tempted to buy myself a Fitbit to help with the motivation aspect. Is there a particular Fitbit I should be looking at? Is the Charge 4 best, or is there another model that comes out better? Thanks.

Stronghold · 21/03/2021 15:39

It's probably worth having a look at the reviews on amazon and thinking about things like battery life and if you need one that's waterproof and can survive swimming etc?

I have a charge 4 and it probably needs charging once a week. When swimming pools open and I've had my jabs, I'll be testing out the waterproof theory too. I really like the pulse rate and sleep data and logging all my calories in and out too.

If you "just" want a step counter, there are cheaper gadgets out there!

OublietteBravo · 21/03/2021 19:55

25,098 steps today. Because it was actually sunny.

FlatteredFool · 21/03/2021 21:03

Ive beaten my PB this week so I'm happy with that although thinking I must get a step to even try to get close to Huggy's record. 19,053 average for the week. Pretty good I think. Everyone ready for the bingo?

OP posts:
Puddock1 · 21/03/2021 21:21

Well done, that's excellent @FlatteredFool! The step counts have been incredible. I'll be on foot more this week and excited to give the bingo a whirl. Looks good fun 😁

Huggybear16 · 22/03/2021 00:42

Great job everyone! Oh @FlatteredFool please get an exercise step! Jumpers got one and is liking hers. I am loving how our recommendations are actually getting us to try different things - I just ordered an exercise ball after Stronghold recommended one.

Amazing @OublietteBravo - 25k is fantastic!

An average of 19k for the week is great @FlatteredFool, well done.

@Shufflebumnessie, I have a Versa 2. I love it but have only had it a month so not 100% sure on all of the features yet. Also, this is my first Fitbit so can't make a comparison to the other models. Have a look at Amazon to compare and read reviews.

Good luck for Bingo everyone!

FlatteredFool · 22/03/2021 07:34

Well done everyone!
I'm not sure I get zone things on my Fitbit. I'll have to check.

@Huggybear16 you'll be proud haha. Might need a lie down now though....

Huggybear16 · 22/03/2021 13:04

@Jumpers268 that's amazing!! A proper cardio workout there - impressive minutes too 💪

FlatteredFool · 22/03/2021 13:28

Wow jumper! That's impressive! I don't get active zone minutes on my Fitbit, I've checked.

OP posts:
Jumpers268 · 22/03/2021 13:39

@FlatteredFool oh that's annoying! Does active steps come up on your bingo? Or do you have different ones?

FlatteredFool · 22/03/2021 17:13

Active minutes come up. I've just realised that I'm supposed to do the tiles in the heart pattern Blush

OP posts:
Huggybear16 · 22/03/2021 20:20

@FlatteredFool have you turned over tiles not on your pattern? If so, I have just discovered that the tiles outwith your pattern give you 1 of 4 bonuses - so you can swap out your active minutes tiles for distance or steps, flip one for free, get a shortcut. So the other tiles are not what I thought at all - they're actually good!
