HELLO & WELCOME! March already and the start of Spring! We’ll all feel better with the onset of warmer weather ☀️.

This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @halfshrunkmoretogo won’t mind me using them as Poster Girls.
They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside & move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with light weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Jump right in! If you’re not too shy, post a bit about yourself 😊. How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

You’ll be glad you got on board this time next month 😊

It has worked so far as I have been lucky to have two nett losses! I'd rather miss out in the joy of being lower and also not have the lows of gaining weight but we'll see what happens on the week I put weight on!

fallfallfall · 16/03/2021 17:26

@SunshineCake, yes I have to recognize I’m not letting the periods of weight gain go back to 2016 levels and nip it in the bud. It’s sad that I’m easily taken off track.
IF this next breast exam is normal, I will make a complaint about the radiologist.

SunshineCake · 16/03/2021 17:34

Do you know why you are taken off track easily?

I don't know what has happened with the radiologist but I'm around if you want to chat. Flowers.

fallfallfall · 16/03/2021 17:53

@Sunshinecake the radiologist is pursuing what the breast specialist is saying is a NORMAL breast cyst. the biopsy (two very good samples) came back as NORMAL cyst tissue. BUT he is insistent it needs further examination. it really threw me and still does upset me. He was dreadfully arrogant.

the jerk, entered the exam room, ordered the attendant about, totally prepped me for a biopsy at which point i said "excuse me are you not going to introduce yourself, you've been in the room for 5 minutes and have yet to tell me your name or ask mine" cue name exchange. then i said "consent, you've not asked for consent to do this and frankly i'm not sure i will give it"...cue a bit more soulless chatter.
on the plus side he washed his hands well and was proficient at doing the biopsy (done with a long thin needle using a nice ultrasound machine to guide the whole thing).

it took me 5 months to forget the dreadful exchange...

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 16/03/2021 17:58

@fallfallfall that radiologist sounds like a grade A prick! You handled it very well, depending on mood I'd have either been completely cowed and intimidated or rage filled harpy!

It's worth sending a letter of feedback even if you don't want to pursue an official complaint, just to make sure his behaviours are addressed in some way.

Took my measurements today and there's an 8 inch loss on my waist between September last year and today, which is a bit crazy to think about 😂

fallfallfall · 16/03/2021 18:03

@SunshineCake, it just so happens the breast clinic (which is a fab one stop shop, from mammo to biopsy to seeing the dr all in one day always) all women go home with questions answered, sent me a survey.
and i will fill it in honestly.
Now my dilemma is IF the cyst is NOT normal afterall...will i be grateful for the unpleasant jerk behavior? time will tell
Next ultrasound April 13th.

fallfallfall · 16/03/2021 18:11

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo, that reply should be to you ;).

SunshineCake · 16/03/2021 18:31

That sounds incredibly distressing, fallfallfall.. Obviously if he saves your life that will come the focus but someone does need to have a word. He really should know how difficult this situation is for women. Maybe someone should suggest he thinks about how he'd feel if it was him in your shoes regarding his testicles..

Well done @HalfShrunkMoreToGo. I'm on seven inches off my tummy and five off my thigh. I'm glad I measured as the tape measure gave me hope when the scales were saying no loss. Carry on, you're doing great!

fallfallfall · 16/03/2021 19:32

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo 8inches!! Wow, well done 👍

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 17/03/2021 06:51

Weekly weigh in time

Start of this weight loss journey was 1st Aug 2020 - 233lb, BMI 35.4

24/02/2021 - 178lb, BMI 27.0
03/03/2021 - 177lb, BMI 26.9
10/03/2021 - 177lb, BMI 26.9
17/03/2021 - 176lb, BMI 26.7

Loss this week - 1 lb
Loss this month - 2lb
Total loss since starting - 57 lb

I have also lost 8 inches off my waist and 6.5 inches off my hips

132orbust · 17/03/2021 08:35

Another quick check-in to say I am still alive after my jab and ok aside from a sore arm and possibly a small headache but I'm not even sure of that.
The other 1.75lbs of the 3.75lbs have helpfully buggered off so I am back to 138 lbs again.
All being well on the side effects front I'll post in my 'proper' format again tomorrow and who knows I might have a bit more gone by then.

SunshineCake · 17/03/2021 12:21

Well done again @HalfShrunkMoreToGo and that is great news @132orbust.

I'm feeling so much happier with weekly weighing. Couldn't run today as had an appointment but should be able to go tomorrow and Friday. Dh just told me DS is going back to uni on Saturday so need to watch I don't mainline the chocolate.

overthecorona · 17/03/2021 13:58

Well done to everyone who is feeling on the right track this week and large bunches of Flowers to all feeling prodded, jabbed and otherwise not in form.

My weight went up 2lbs last week (TOTM) and is back down now but still a pound up on the first of the month. Feel like I am doing all the right things (mostly 18:6 / no crap in the house / healthy meals and definitely less snacks now kids back at school). So I am just going to grit my teeth and get back on with it. I want to buy a new swimsuit for summer, so that will be quite motivational I think.....

SW: 14st 3
CW: 14 2
GW: 10 5
GW (March) 13 8

SunshineCake · 17/03/2021 15:16

Are you sure you are eating enough @overthecorona? I was just thinking how now I'm doing 19:5 there's less time to eat so less calories going in.

AuldFox · 17/03/2021 15:53

@overthecorona I gain 2-3 lb every TOTM and it takes me about 10 days to lose it again. It’s really annoying but at least I know to expect it. I do eat more chocolate around that time though, so it’s not all just TOTM for me Blush

Puffalicious · 17/03/2021 16:01

Well done on all the losses. I'm weigh in day tomorrow.

Any advice on after work snacking? Now I'm back on site I'm feeling my usual craving for food when I get home. I'm doing 16:8 so lunch at 12 and by the time I get in (about 4pm) I'm ravenous. I don't want sweet rubbish, I'm craving real food: savoury. I'm vegetarian so a quick slice of cold meat won't work; cheese (my snack of choice) is too calorific and I'm avoiding bread. No real time to 'make' anything as I have DS3 needing to do homework and to start the actual dinner (eaten about 6). Any suggestions for low-cal satisfaction?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 17/03/2021 16:14

@Puffalicious

Cheese string - about 65 calories
Ryvita crackerbread, 19cals per slice and they do plain, cheese or black pepper flavour. Either eat dry like crisps or have with a smear of jalapeño Philadelphia spread.
Boiled egg - medium is 65 cals

AuldFox · 17/03/2021 16:21

How about cottage cheese on crisp bread?

Puffalicious · 17/03/2021 16:38

I do love a Babybel light - 42 Cals but sort of forgot about cottage cheese. I love Ryvita too- various flavours on the shopping list. Thanks.

overthecorona · 17/03/2021 17:30

Ha @sunshinecake I assure you I am eating plenty. I have strapping teen boys and a hungry DH and I am used to doling out near equal portions to all of us. And I do fall off the 18-6 wagon a couple of times a week. The thing I haven't done much in the last week is exercise. As soon as I am getting my steps in and doing a few sweaty sessions I swear I can feel my metabolism crank up a bit!

Thanks for reminding me of Ryvita @HalfShrunkMoreToGo, I haven't bought those in ages and I remember the pepper ones are delicious.

Crazzzycat · 17/03/2021 18:31

@Puffalicious I like one, or two corn thins with a little bit of peanut butter. Obviously peanut butter is quite calorific too, but you don’t need much of it to cover a cracker

SunshineCake · 17/03/2021 19:34

I have to confess 3pm is my snack time and that is when I would have a biscuit or a couple of squares of chocolate. For dinner I made a lovely chicken, onion, carrot, potato, chorizo and parsnip tray bake but annoyingly I had cous cous with it and it seems I am very much still intolerant to it. I'm in tummy agony.

132orbust · 18/03/2021 07:01

Oh dear @SunshineCake hope it has gone this morning.
Woke up at 2am having rolled onto my arm which got sorer as the day progressed yesterday and the pain was bad enough to get me up and out of bed to take something.
Lay there in agony for about 20 minutes but then I'm guessing it must have worked as I don't remember anything until 6.30 - as side effects go it's not that bad and I am so grateful to have had it.
I also love cheese so my top snack is carrot batons with St. Agur Blue Creme - you get a lot of food for 100 Kcals.
So no decrease today I'm still at 138lbs - ho hum.

SunshineCake · 18/03/2021 11:10

Thanks @132orbust. I still have a bit of pain but it is nothing compared to last night and just feels like painful hunger pains. Definitely reacted to something and I am sure it was the cous cous.

Just had a great run, lovely walk with ddog, restorative shower and now planning meals for today.

Glad your arm is better. I walked into the door frame with mine is it took a few days to stop being sore. Your cheese is one I need to try!

Puffalicious · 18/03/2021 11:58

Thanks for all the snack suggestions- I filled my trolley high this morning.

Frustratingly I've put on 1lb this week. No idea why, I've kept to 1000-1200 calories every day maximum (MFP says 1500 for me which i think is too high) and had a 3 hour hard hike on Sat. Plenty water and back on site so definitely more active.Confused Perhaps Mother's Day was to blame- but I didn't go crazy, perhaps 500 calories over.

Ah well, I'm not going to get upset over a piddling pound and just screw the nut this week again.

Hope you're better Sunshine
