Welcome to the 'lose 7lbs per month' thread. Our usual host @cricketmum29 is having a little rest for Feb but we can follow her good example and continue to give each other support and inspiration and I'm sure she'll drop in when she's feeling well. Flowers

All are welcome to join, there's a really good mix of diets and methods and everyone is really helpful.

Previous thread is here: Jan lose 7lbs thread

I started last year and I'm so grateful to all the support and kindness throughout the months Flowers Jan was about maintaining for me but finger's crossed February will be about losing again.

It soon adds up doesn't it @AIMD

I had chicken breast meat, cauliflower mash, broccoli, keto yorkshire pudding and a little gravy. That came to 534 calories and was delicious. Nothing like my old roast dinners were though, I love roast potatoes and roast parsnips, stuffing, and so on!

AIMD · 07/02/2021 22:19

@GetTheStartyParted yea mine came to over 1,000 calories. Sounds illy but I just didn’t realise there was that much in it!!! Oooops

GetTheStartyParted · 07/02/2021 22:32

Hope you enjoyed it - at least it feels worth it then Smile

Morning ;)

SW (1/1/21) 12st 1
Feb SW 11st 3
CW 11st 0 (very happy with that!)
GW ????

I'm 5'3", mid 50s, having spent a lot my my life working hard to stay slim, I gave up and have been happy being a fatty for the last few years but Covid has made me realise I need to look after myself a bit better.

I stick to around 1200 cals per day, religiously weigh and record on my fitness pal. I walk 9k every morning (at around 10 minute per km) and do a 30m Joe Wicks hiit session 4 x per week. I used to run a lot but had a long term injury - hope to get back to it once I'm carrying less weight.

How's everyone else doing?

Onesmallstep67 · 08/02/2021 08:39

3lbs down after week 1. I was a lb lighter yesterday but had a couple of treats over the weekend. Feeling pretty positive in general. I will hopefully get out for a walk but if not I will get on the exercise bike.
Have a good week everyone.

Ecci · 08/02/2021 09:39

Weigh in today, 3.6 lbs down, really pleased after so little change for the last 3 months. CW 11st 3.2 lbs.
@GetTheStartyParted @AIMD I make fat free roast parsnips (and potatoes for DH, don't like them myself). Boil the parsnips/potatoes in stock (I usually use an OXO cube) for 5 to 10 min depending on size, then put onto roasting tin, oven as hot as possible for 20 to 30 mins. Most people I've given them to can't tell they're eating fat free roasties.

I've been doing mostly low fat, lots of fruit and veg eating for my weight loss, works for me. CBA to count calories exactly but I have a rough idea of how many I'm eating and my watch tells me how many I've used during the day.

GetTheStartyParted · 08/02/2021 09:58

Well done with these great losses everyone.

Thanks @Ecci but I can't eat parsnips and potatoes on keto. I will definitely try them when I step away from keto. I do sometimes roast a little celariac for with my dinner and that's lovely.

MotherOfChaos28 · 08/02/2021 10:22

Can I join? I was doing really well last year but lockdown #3 is getting to me and I’ve been massively comfort eating.

9st 11lb this morning so a 5lb loss so far this month. Plus that was after a night shift so I’d eaten and drank recently. Really pleased with progress so far this month!

cricketmum84 · 08/02/2021 12:27

Sorry I haven't weighed for a few days now but will do tomorrow for a proper check in.

All bloods are back now and it's looking likely that I'll be diagnosed with T2 diabetes. Haven't spoken to the GP yet b I can see my results online.

HBAC1 was 68. Anything above 48 is diabetes but for official diagnosis I need to have a second test in 4 weeks with another result above 48.

Do we have any other diabetics on the thread who can give me a bit of advice about what I should be eating? Am in a bit of a stress about it all! And so annoyed that this can still happen when I've lost so much flipping weight!!

Thank you for doing such a fab job running the thread @JessJonesJumps

Tash6000 · 08/02/2021 13:44

You need to follow a lower carb diet if your annual blood test came back as diabetic (which with 68 it does look likely unfortunately). I had gestational diabetes and I know the GD UK website is amazing for lots of very yummy low carb food.
I just had my result back as 33 however I'm sceptical so monitoring my bloods for a few weeks and some readings are above 10 😬
A 1lb loss for half week way in for me.. hopefully 2lb by the end of the week 🤞

TheStirrer · 08/02/2021 16:53

Hi @cricketmum84. Type 2 diabetic here 👋

Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed and after the shock has worn off it will be fine! I really cried at first and was very embarrassed but they think that a 30% of the population are undiagnosed.
I was diagnosed this time last year with an hb1ac of 48 but blood sugars now in the normal range. Lots of diabetics low carb or keto and even though your hb1ac is a bit higher than mine I am sure you can get it down lower and potentially manage it without meds. Pm me if you want a chat.
I really recommend the diabetes.co.uk website ( not the org one!) - there are some very knowledgable people on there who started with much higher hb1ac than you who are medication free with blood sugars in the normal range.

shreddergodo · 08/02/2021 20:09

Weighed in today at 10stone 4 lbs so 3 lbs off so far. Eating relatively low carb high protein on fast800 (though not going to lie, eating just over the calorie limit most days). Had a treat (caffé latte) which was really nice but not as good as I remembered, I think this blood sugar diet is helping. Will try each day to stay under 800, tomorrow will probably be a better shout. 7 days on plan though, I’m quite chuffed.

Would love to be close to 10 stone next week , so will double up efforts I think tomorrow and next day and maybe weigh on Thursday ... or I could weigh each day... I have such scale anxiety I think RN so I guess I’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Well done on losses everyone pretty awesome and welcome coming back to post each day to everyone - it is very motivating

Smarshian · 08/02/2021 22:25

Sorry to hear that @cricketmum84 especially as you have done so so well with your weight loss. No advice I’m afraid, but please be kind to yourself.
I’m slightly frustrated that the scale isn’t really budging for me, I’m being consistent though so I’m sure it will follow at some point soon.
Still weighing in at 10st 12. Would love to be at 10st 7 by the end of the month, but anything would be a bonus!

Onesmallstep67 · 09/02/2021 09:07

No movement on the scales. I had another reasonable day with food yesterday and resorted to about 20k on the bike. I'm not sure how effective my relatively slow pace is but psychologically it is making me feel like I am being proactive. Was hoping for a walk today but at the moment it's snowing.
Lots of love and best wishes to you @cricketmum84. I hope that you have been able to discuss your results with the doctor and they've said what the next steps are for getting you back to feeling much better.

NerrSnerr · 09/02/2021 10:07

I'm still 2lbs down but really trying to have a good day today to get the scales moving more.

I'm glad you have some answers @cricketmum84 but it's obviously rubbish when you've done so well with your weight loss.

shreddergodo · 09/02/2021 14:42

Hope you're doing ok today @cricketmum84 - I'm not a doctor but I'm currently doing the fast800 and there is a LOT about type2 diabetes in that book if you're interested... it's special diet aimed and reversing it! I borrowed it for free on the e library websites from our council lib and it's also on audiobook if you're not a big reader...I've found it really fascinating.

Day 9 - Going well, haven't been too strict with calories, just enjoying sensible portions of vegetable stew and tonight I think I'll have a big salad with tofu.
I need to get better with my protein intake!

GetTheStartyParted · 09/02/2021 15:27

@cricketmum84 sorry it's not good news but glad you have some answers. I hope you're doing ok.

I am so tired this week, I should not have stayed up for the super bowl Grin

I made some keto cookies as I really wanted something sweet. They were a little disappointing but I've bought some clotted cream to smother them in so hopefully that makes them nicer! Sticking to my diet but still haven't started any exercise. I have next week off work so ignoring the assignment I need to write, I should have some free time to figure something out.

I have keto meals planned for Chinese New Year and Valentines day, as well as a keto pancake recipe so hopefully I will lose weight still, avoiding DS's sugar-laden plate. He made honeycomb this weekend, it looked and smelled so good. He will have to make me some when I reach my target weight Smile

Seems like a mixed bag for everyone, it is still such a strange time isn't it. I hope you're all ok?

Howmanysleepsnow · 09/02/2021 15:30

Still 9st 11lb today (ish: I have analogue scales so don’t know other than to the nearest lb, but it’s preferable to digital scales that used to be really erratic as the batteries got low.) I managed 19,000+ steps yesterday (only 2 hours sleep due to a night shift so plenty of time to fit them in!) and won’t be anywhere near that today but I’m aiming for 10,000 plus.

Foresttheout · 10/02/2021 08:02

Sorry it isn't good news @cricketmum84 I hope they can get your sugars stable quickly and you can get back to at least a bit of normality.
I seem to be stuck at 71.5kg hoping to shift the 1.5 by the end of the month but struggling due to inability to exercise.
@Howmanysleepsnow well done on the steps 19k is impressive!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/02/2021 08:13

Hi @cricketmum84 I had GD when pregnant with DD the advice I was given was to look up low GI foods and follow a low GI diet. You're not supposed to eliminate carbs just reduce and choose complex carbs over simple ones.

When you do have carbs you should pair them with protein and/or fat to help your body break them down so

  • whole grain or rye bread with peanut butter or egg
  • Apple slices with peanut butter
  • smaller portion of rice/pasta with meat/tofu

I was also advised to stick to an 8 hour eating window and limit snacks to keep insulin level stable rather than having spikes throughout the day.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/02/2021 08:14

Weekly weigh in:

Start of this weight loss journey was 233lb, BMI 35.4

27/01/2021 - 180lb, BMI 27.4
03/02/2021 - 181lb, BMI 27.5
10/02/2021 - 179lb, BMI 27.2

Loss this week - 2lb
Loss this month - 2 lb
Total loss since starting - 54 lb

Onesmallstep67 · 10/02/2021 08:27

Slight regain this morning but fell off the wagon last night out of boredom and long held pointless snacking habits. Aiming for a better day today and not eating biscuits instead of a meal !

ILoveAnOwl · 10/02/2021 08:33

3.5kgs off this week so
Sw: 119
Cw:110.7
Gw: 106 (for this month).

Sadly my son was given a load of sweets and I've been 'grazing'. Need to stop!
