Frolicking through February

Octopus37 · 01/02/2021 08:19

Think I might have used a similar title last year, but here goes. Hopefully we might move towards frolicking cause things have got to improve in February right.

Weighed in at 9st4 this morning. A couple of pounds off this month would be great, but I'm mainly working on my motivation and trying to increase my energy levels.

Have a pint or two now octopus or you'll have a headache tomorrow, or maybe that's just me. Super steps!

Octopus37 · 12/02/2021 08:10

Yes, a pint or two would have given me a headache this morning, might have one tonight though. 9st4.25 this morning. Just having to go with the bits I can do and damage limitation at the moment cause I've go no inclination to eat that healthily. Glad its Friday and delighted that its half term after today, no home learning and I can have my laptop to myself all day

I meant have a pint of water! Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 12/02/2021 08:58

Morning. Thanks. Surgery will be 2 years ago in June and most symptoms and issues are resolved or well managed so I'm ok really. Just need to lose the weight.

Was worried about getting on the scales yesterday because I had stodgy dinner due to the noodles and a slice of cheesecake and ended up eating halo and crisps late at night when over tired.

They've actually gone down a tiny bit bizarrely. May show up tomorrow. I'm in school today with kw kids and going to spend some time in curriculum support with some of my struggling but trying students. Will try and keep my steps up and avoid the free sandwiches.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 09:06

Great that otherwise things are well Honeybadger, that's the main thing of course. I'm down 1.75lbs since last Fri, yippee! 9st1.5. Looked at my Jan steps and can see that's where I fell down as well as overeating. I've a headache myself despite water intake so goals today: 3L water, 10k steps and no after 7pm snacking. That lack of snacking is leading to a 14/15h fasting window tho I'm not doing If, I know that long fast is a good thing.
B: ono and Friday latte
L: nutty fried rice
D: chicken and veg pie with mash.
Happy Friday all!(And don't forget your water!)

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 09:20

I think as well I know my best 'formula'. I'm a hungry person, I can't 'go hungry' without feeling like over eating or that I'm being v restrictive. What suits me is 400+500+5/600 cal meals, ie 3 v good meals in the day. No hunger, loads of nutrition and no feeling of missing out. And leaves me way under my regular burn of 1800-2200 cals.. Also allows me a take away/extra helping at dinner etc without a worry. I'm on it now. Bring on the summer wardrobe!! Grin

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 09:24

Also, I know I'm the over enthusiastic one in the front row, but something I noticed recently, actually thought of you Honeybadger, as you have often mentioned a high cal burn and I know as I lose my allowance is much less. A friend is doing a X steps a day challenge so she's posting her step count each night. She is overweight and more than happy at the size she's at, no problem there obviously, but I've noticed alongside her 10+k steps her calorie burn... She's around 5ft8 and I won't guess a weight, wouldn't have a clue, but her cal burn for the day is usually around the 1200 mark... That's off isn't it? I only noticed as we've been discussing it and I did wonder.. She has never worried or tried to lose weight so I won't obviously be saying anything but it is very low, right?

FlatteredRhubardFool · 12/02/2021 10:29

Everyone is doing so well!
I've not weighed today as didn't want to.
That's is a really low calorie output for someone of that height so that can't be right.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 10:38

That's what I thought flattered and if she said she was 5,9 I would believe it, I'm just estimating.. Only thing can think of is she posting in the evening but did her steps in the morning, but going by her comments I don't think so. It's a fitbit graphic.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/02/2021 17:32

No that's not right. If I did 10,000 steps I'd have 2400+ calories burned. I'm only 5'7. She may not be as fat as me but I'd despair if I only burned 1300 lying on the sofa all day. I'm at 1700 now just from going to work and moving about there and less than 5k steps so far.

So so tired and so so glad it's now half term.

No idea of food plan. Haven't eaten but got in and poured myself a g&t. It would be a fitting day for a takeaway but I really don't want to undo the good progress I've been making so need to cook. I could happily just sleep

Octopus37 · 12/02/2021 18:17

@HeyGirlHeyBoy well done. @TheHoneyBadger enjoy your G&T.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 18:25

Well I see she's logged from 6.30om-10.30pm and cal burns from 1205-1490.... With 10k steps done. Tracker must be wrong or something strange going on. She's a size 18-20 nó idea of weight. We'll done on end of a hard day Honeybadger. Hope you rustle up something lovely and sleep well.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/02/2021 18:59

Ds talked me into takeaway. Le sigh. I'll try not to eat too much and stick to gin and slimline tonic.

I arrived home to a mixed case of 15 bottles of wine and Prosecco from Virgin as a reward for my current account switch. Pretty good switch incentive given the rubbish deals and interest rates around currently.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/02/2021 20:02

I had fish and a few chips and curry sauce. Not good but not the end of the world with a couple of g&ts as I'm on track to burn over my 2100cal goal today and I'm stuffed. No idea how many calories in fish and chips but surely can't be more than 1500.

Hoping for at least dry weather tomorrow to get out walking and must try and drink a few glasses of water tonight. Never drink enough when I'm at work.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 12/02/2021 20:38

OMG chips and curry from a Chinese chippy is my favourite thing. I've not had any for years as our local chippy closed. Probably a good thing for my weight really.

I've had toast and veggie pate just now as wasn't hungry at dinner.

My BMR is 1229 according to MFP and I'm 5'3" and 61kg so something is way off there.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 20:53

Mine is similar flattered, at a bit lighter than you.. But that's if you don't move from the bed.. One can dream!

Overweight · 12/02/2021 21:24

So many questions...

  • how do you know your calories burned?
  • do you try and calculate how many calories are in a takeaway? Feels almost impossible? I'm thinking that as long as the rest of the day has been sensible then a takeaway will be what it will be and it's my choice to have it or not, so I'd just have to live not knowing the calories but assume quite a lot.
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 21:26

My fitbit tells me cals burned overweight, obviously an approximate. So today with 13, 600 steps I've burned 1955cals at almost half nine. That's around the norm for me with activity.

Take aways are in my lose it but as you say how can you be sure? So just enjoy. I did find last year, halfing the rice and spooning so not flooding with sauce was probably the most virtuous I could do.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 12/02/2021 21:30

Light bulb moment re friend... She must only use tracker for the 10k step walk.. That probably works out. I'll stop being so nosey now.

drspouse · 12/02/2021 22:33

My fitbit says 9K steps and 1800 caps.
Think I've had quite a good week, I bought an M&S meal for two for us tomorrow, tried to get the less fatty options, gosh it does seem to be all steak/pork belly/chips/cheesecake.

IDontMindMarmite · 13/02/2021 08:00

I'm 5"9, now slim and my BMR is 1400 so your friends outputs sound plain wrong.

With fish and chips, I did a google and it seems that average chippy meals are around 800 cals. With chinese or indian, I near give up trying to estimate and write it off at 1200 with the knowledge that I could be out by a LOT.

My food has been absolutely atrocious this week. I've told myself that as i'm on "holiday" and should ordinarily be eating out for all meals that I don't need to cook at all. So it's been a lot of take aways and I did weigh myself days go now and had an upswing. It'll be worse than that now I dread to think.

Part of me is annoyed with myself, part not because what's the point of being consistent the rest of the time if I can't have a splurge occasionally? I'll get back on the bike next week. Figuratively. I'm hoping to have a cycle tomorrow actually! And a good walk today. Plus a restaurant at home meal. Gah.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 13/02/2021 08:13

But you seem able to do that Idontmindmarmite and you do get back on the bike without drama every time! I'm zooming the whole weekend so will massively effect my steps unfortunately and unavoidably. Can't go now as there's a storm outside.

drspouse · 13/02/2021 08:20

I tend to get a Chinese and eat half of it, weighing what I eat, that usually works out OK. With fish and chips DH and I share a regular chips and I sometimes have scampi instead of a big fish, or the lightly battered fish is not too bad.

Anyway another 1lb off!

IDontMindMarmite · 13/02/2021 08:24

Thank you HeyGirl, it's good to hear that actually because i do panic every time! Grin.

Yay to your loss drspouse.

FlatteredRhubardFool · 13/02/2021 08:32

60.7kg this morning and woke up with a splitting headache. I'm prone to them it seems. It's minus 3 outside with a wind chill taking it to minus 9. I think we'll stay in today but hopefully go out for a walk tomorrow. The steps make a huge difference for me in getting weight to shift.
Have a great day everyone.
