I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

Thanks 10kaDay ✨☺️
I hate hate hate my new jumbo bras. They make me feel so matronly and awful.

Made some nice soup with whatever I found in the veg drawer, a tin of mixed beans. tin tomato a stock cube and Cajun spices.

Going out to walk at 6.30pm tonight, back in time for a light dinner, 1 square of choc and a few mint teas. And now I’m accountable to you lovely lot! Smile

beautyboxaddict · 03/01/2021 00:19

Checking in and feeling the massive matronly bra pain. I’m short so I just feel like I’m all boob Blush

I’m tracking my food but not limiting myself with anything til I’m back at work on Monday. Just over 10k steps and 2.4l of water yesterday and today so I’m happy with that.

Well done everyone for making a solid start

10kaDay · 03/01/2021 00:30

Evening ladies ...

@cissyandbessy - good news on the consistent walks - and for clearing the Xmas chocs Grin. Meal planning & prep on the agenda here tomorrow too

@SunscreenCentral: your soup sounds lovely! Am trying to eat beans daily myself so making a couple of soups for week tomorrow. I recognise that ‘matronly’ feeling .. hate it so much! On the plus side, 1 week into this my ‘back boobs’ seem to have shrunk away, praise be! It’s one of the last places I put on weight so probably where it’s coming off 1st

Pleasing news today: Fitbit has given me today’s total as 17k steps ... so about 10k in addition to today’s (hideously muddy) walk. Quite shocked but part of it was trying out the YouTube workouts ready for a rainy day, and other nipping to greengrocer when my food order turned up minus the 2 things I really needed, spinach & broccoli, & steps from cleaning. Pleased to have some steps ‘in the bank’ in case one of the week days ends up being a write-off

Boring old walk round the park on the agenda tomorrow and getting ready for the return to work Sad

Will sleep well tonight I’m sure

Enjoy your walk 10kaDay - mine will be limited to a dog walk today, but I might go on a long one tomorrow.

LarsErickssong · 03/01/2021 13:00

We had to cut our walk short as it was so icy so I still need another 2k steps for today but will hopefully get them from pottering about the house.

10kaDay · 03/01/2021 15:25

Afternoon everyone - hope you are enjoying your Sundays!

Just got back from today’s walk, and the Fitbit buzzed for 10k steps as I was walking through the front door Smile. Will leave it for there on the exercise front for today, and just pottering around the house now

Today I’m going to make/plan

  • 5 lunches
  • dinners for sun/mon/tues & work out what I could have wed/thu/fri

Tomorrow going to:

  • do a 45 min exercise video before work
  • walk or do a walking video (so not hot & sweaty) for a lunch break
  • use the standing desk for a few short stints (ie balance laptop on a chest of drawers when I have some zoom calls)
  • have a nicer than usual dinner to make up for it being Monday Grin - possibly veggie sausage casserole

🥁 🥁 🥁

FIRST WEEKLY UPDATE

  • steps : averaged 13.4K/day so very happy with the start
  • weight: I’m down a pound and a half (NYE indulgence included)
  • positive things I’ve noticed:
- back fat gone down (I’m so glad) - feel a little bit lighter (I’m down about 4-5 pounds from my all time high before Xmas) - am feeling healthier mentally (calmer/better mood) - I get a bit of a ‘dopamine rush’ after a bit of walking, & from eating less processed food

Looking forward to hearing how all your weeks have been!

Lastly, don’t feel you need to post weights in updates if you don’t want to ... focus is on being active & healthy

On that note - I saw a great recco for an app on another thread, ‘happy scale’- it averages out weight loss over the week from daily /few times a week readings and gives a running total - it makes me a lot happier than seeing numbers bounce up and down every day! I’m going to be giving numbers based on my running average for the week

beautyboxaddict · 03/01/2021 17:26

@10kaDay that is such a positive start!

Happy Sunday all. I’ve not done my steps yet today. Halfway there due to manic cleaning and will be heading out with the dog shortly to get the rest in. I’m also attempting to do the Yoga With Adriene Breath 30 day program this month and have managed both days so far which I’m happy about. Oh and I’ve meal planned for the next 2 weeks - nothing especially ‘diety’ but easier to resist a CBA takeaway if I’m prepared. Back to work tomorrow

onemouseplace · 03/01/2021 17:53

Well done @10kaDay !

I'll start posting my stats next Sunday when I'll had a full week - but I already feel a bit lighter and healthier after 3 days of knocking mindless eating on the head. Tonight is the last night of booze for me as well.

I've not quite managed 10K the last couple of days BUT I was motivated to get out for a walk both days when I wouldn't have been otherwise, so I am pleased about that.

LarsErickssong · 03/01/2021 18:54

7,271 steps today which makes 70,047 for the the week (this did just include some marching on the stop whilst watching desperate housewives after our walk was cut short this morning ). I haven't been weighing myself this week but that will start again tomorrow.
@10kaDay sounds like a great start for you, you can also add your weight to the Fitbit app each day which then works out your weekly average. When I tell people I weigh myself everyday they look at me in horror and tell me I'll just become obsessed by the scales but I actually think I'm the opposite. I'm not saying everyone will be the same but I found when I used to weigh each week e.g. when doing slimming world, if I had a 'bad' week I would then binge eat because I was upset, and if I had a 'good' week I would binge because I had been good! Whereas by weighing every day I've realised how much my weight can fluctuate from one day to the next e.g. on a Friday (when I would have weighed in at SW) I might be 10st 4, but the day before and the day after I would be 10st 2, those extra 2lbs were just from having a bit to much salty food on the Thursday (ps these are my goal weight not actual weight Grin).
I'm not back at work until Tuesday but plan for this week is to start 16:8 again and I've already booked on 3 virtual gym glasses so far but will try and add a 4th. I'm going to go food shopping tomorrow and also put the 2 unopened boxes of Guylian chocs I have in the food bank trolley. January is my busiest/most stressful time at work so I'm not doing dry Jan but we are going to limit drinking to just one night at the weekend and cut down on takeaways too.

Evening Ladies

@beautyboxaddict -meal planning for 2 weeks is pretty impressive, sounds like a v active day with the cleaning (hmm, I’d better do some of that Grin)

@onemouseplace: great on the walks Star

@LarsErickssong: hit the 🎯 for the week! Sounds like you are really on it Smile. Thanks for telling me about the weight thing on Fitbit too

My work will get v busy in a couple of weeks too (plus I’m, umm, meant to be moving house Shock, so hoping a bit of prep now will help me in the coming weeks

Hi, I'm at 59,450 steps for the week which is a little short of my target of 70k, but I only decided that target on Friday. Hoping to achieve it next week. Am currently 170 steps short of 10k so I think I should achieve that today.

Hope everyone has a good week, and hopefully I'll have better news next week!

10kaDay · 03/01/2021 20:18

Hello @muddledmidget - I think that’s a great achievement for this week, I would have averaged about 300 steps a day the week before Grin.

OP posts:
SunscreenCentral · 04/01/2021 01:16

I think my all-time low was -300 steps 😂

Managed about 6k today. IF and AF went ok, and at least I went out-of-doors...

See you tomorrow ladies Smile

SunscreenCentral · 04/01/2021 01:21

p.s. if anyone here like me is new to Apple Watch, today I discovered you can link it to MyFitnessPal
Definitely going to bed now x

Morning all
Official new year Monday! Thanks for tagging me 10k

Weighing in at a whopping 15st 1lb Blush that's a whole 3st more than I was at 9 months pregnant 5 years ago!

1500 calories set on My Fitness Pal, will walk when husband comes home this evening as I've 2 young ones at home to entertain.

Really motivating reading all the posts.

ajandjjmum · 04/01/2021 10:09

You'll be up to the 10,000 steps chasing after your little ones Ellie!

Good luck for a positive day everyone.

10kaDay · 04/01/2021 10:28

Morning @Ellieboolou33 - wishing you luck for the day!

An idea for during today... there are some ‘family’ workouts on YouTube (both Anna Render & Gina B have a couple) IF you think you can get your kids to do them along with you ...

I’ve done my workout and ready for the day... about an hour/2hrs later than usual though so will need to get up earlier tomorrow!

Have a great day all!

Afternoon all! Thanks for the shout-out @10kaDay, managed 67k steps last week so will try to push that to over 70k this week. Am getting on the scales on weds so will see how the first week has gone then. Salmon and steam veg for tea, and meal planning done for the next 2 weeks.
Back at WFH today after Xmas and I've managed to avoid the allure of the shortbread tin.

Have a good week everyone.

LarsErickssong · 04/01/2021 16:11

7k steps so far today for me and I'm doing a HIIT class at 6pm so hopefully I'll be on 10k by bedtime!

Pleaseaddcaffine · 04/01/2021 18:15

4k run first of 2021 as not run for 6 days due to. Snow... .. Omg my legs are sore but I feel better.
Now to not scofff all the bread for tea as too lazy to cook

sofakingawesome · 04/01/2021 19:51

Morning! Hope you are all doing well! I haven't weighed myself... I feel like I don't even want to look at the scales for a little while 😂 I managed to get in the gym Friday and had a good cardio session followed by a core workout from apples new fitness+ app which was actually really good!
Iv been eating well, have so far avoided chocolate completely. Did have a glass of red wine whilst cooking last night (it's my serious downfall) which then turned into another and a few shortbread biscuits.. doh!
However am feeling better today (apart from a really stiff neck). Was hoping to get in the gym again tonight but my children are just not playing ball, however have managed to hit my Apple Watch goals and do 11,000 steps without the gym so not feeling too guilty!
Even managed to go to the co op today and resist all their Easter chocolates and bakery cakes... so definitely a win for me!

sofakingawesome · 04/01/2021 19:52

And that's how awake I am... I put morning but it's 7.50pm haha! I really should go to bed hah

LarsErickssong · 04/01/2021 22:00

That's me done for the day with 10,163 steps, I wasn't back at work so that was a combination of a trip round Tesco's, a 40 minute walk and a HIIT class. Food has been ok, both my meals were healthy but I have had a few chocs and melt in the middle chocolate dessert my DM bought me Blush my main focus for now though is to hit the steps and the food will follow.

Tomorrow is when it will get tough as I'm back WFH, the plan is to find a walking workout to do on YouTube tomorrow morning, then a walk at lunch and I'm booked on a HIITSTEP class tomorrow night.
