I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

  • 10k steps/day minimum
  • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
  • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up

@SunscreenCentral wow 12lbs that's fab, and I'm glad those pesky lbs have dropped off for you @10kaDay

@KatherineJaneway I'm really missing the gym too, even though I can still do the classes virtually from home it's just not the same and I missing going for an actual workout in the gym.

60k hit for this week, I did actually do more steps yesterday but realised when I went to bed my Fitbit had run out of battery. I'm hoping this week will see me drop into the 14 stone bracket, looking back at my Fitbit weigh in logs the last time I logged anything below 15st was last March so that's my main aim for this week! Not booked onto any gym classes yet but will probably do cardio ones tomorrow and Tuesday then strength later in the week.

@LarsErickssong: I always enjoy your updates! I’m parked on the sofa so charging Fitbit now

Higher than usual steps this week, as I could pace/exercise during several meetings

My goals for this week: around 12k a day if I get to pace in my meetings, 10k otherwise, and sticking to my meal plan at around 1400 calories a day. I have my workouts planned for the week, with an easy day on Thursday (today was also an easy day, just a walk)

I've felt lazy this weekend, both on the food and walking front. Need to get my mojo back tomorrow - weather looks good so I'll aim for a good walk to start the week!

And yes - I'll have repetitive strain injury from keep checking my steps! Grin

10kaDay · 31/01/2021 22:47

@ajandjjmum - sounds like you are ready for it!

Tomorrow is Monday & start of a new month... perfect for getting the mojo going!

Can I join in? I’m slowly getting walking steps up again after lots of inactivity, lots of weight to lose but being active for me is the key to my weightloss. I also cycle when weather allows & that’s my favourite but walking too all counts.

SunscreenCentral · 31/01/2021 23:34

I really like cycling littlefires can’t wait for longer (warmer!) evenings to hop on the bike
And for the yoga studio to re-open!!
I don’t mind walking but in truth
I find it a bit lonely, even with a good podcast on to distract me.

@littlefireseverywhere: welcome! 1st of a new month is a great time to start...

I’m just about to start my morning workout, and will either go for a quick walk or do a dance video this afternoon

Meals (and snacks) planned & prepped for the week... I’m ready to go :)
Hope everyone has a good Monday Smile

Morning all & hello @littlefireseverywhere (loved the book & show!)

Monday morning again but back on track after a little wobbly weekend, still good overall though.

Delighted to weigh in this morning to 5lb off so over a stone off since starting in January. Grin

Would love another stone off in Feb. Managed dry January but think I'll mostly need to carry it on if I want to lose at a decent rate.

Been out for a slightly longer morning walk & done 6k so far. Didn't do many steps yest as it's my lazy day. Looking forward to an indulgent tea of chilli con carne wraps later & have a fairly healthy meal plan for the rest of the week.

Hope everyone's Mondays are off to a good start!

@buckeejit - 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 (that’s one for each of the pounds gone!)

I continue to be good at doing steps - and less good at avoiding sweets and chocolate!

10kaDay · 02/02/2021 19:51

@MirandaWest: at least the steps are a bit of damage control!

That is what I am thinking Grin

10kaDay · 02/02/2021 20:00

I’ve not hit my steps at all today - 7k yesterday, 1.2k today (!) as I’m resting and feeling a bit ‘under the weather’. Going to get a COVID test tomorrow but hoping it’s not that. I’m not nauseous but idea of a meal (esp veg or dairy ) makes me feel 🤢

Have managed porridge, a scrambled egg and some crackers today - no interest in food but felt physically hungry. This is NOT my preferred weight loss method ...

Hope you’re feeling better tomorrow @10kaDay 🌸 keep your fluids up in the meantime
Well I’m stuck at the same weight for a week now. Bit fed up with that amongst the other many many things currently available to be fed up at HmmGrin
Hope everyone is doing ok! Been absolutely bucketing down here past few days!

LarsErickssong · 03/02/2021 11:13

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling great @10kaDay fingers crossed it isn't COVID!

I'm feeling disheartened today as my weight hasn't budged for 5 days now but I've been managing 10k a day and eating well, I know I'm the one always harping on about weight loss not being linear so just need to take my own advice and stick with it! I'm going to DP's for a long weekend and that's always my downfall so I really need to try and stick with it whilst I'm there, he's just bought an air fryer so hoping the novelty of using that will keep us away from the takeaways Grin

10kaDay · 03/02/2021 11:39

Thanks for the kind messages all, feeling slightly livelier today, think I will do 7k or do steps and call it a day

Yesterday was interesting: I worked but was totally sedentary otherwise and did 1.3k steps, so probably 1.5k -2k would be the baseline if I wasn’t trying to accumulate steps. To get to 10k I’m being active for at least an hour on top, which I think will be helping me lose, and when the time comes to it will certainly help me maintain

@LarsErickssong... ooh, airfryer!! I’ve been thinking of getting one, please report back

OP posts:
10kaDay · 03/02/2021 11:43

@LarsErickssong... it is disheartening waiting for scales to budge. I hope you will get some movement. Maybe wait until Friday morning before your weekend to give it best chance?

I’m in 2 minds about whether to weigh a few times a week or just weight a month or so ... I think I need the feedback to keep me motivated but it’s hard when nothing happens. Seeing my deficit (on MFP) and my Fitbit numbers helps fill the gap ... a bit

OP posts:
littlefireseverywhere · 03/02/2021 23:54

Thanks all for the welcome. I’m aiming for 4500 steps a day this week. Will increase to 5000 per day next week & so on. I also walk a lot in the house but record steps on my phone.

littlefireseverywhere · 03/02/2021 23:54

Pressed post too soon...so not always got phone on me in the house.

LarsErickssong · 04/02/2021 07:30

@10kaDay we've thought about getting one for a while but lockdown boredness has finally got to us! Will report back after giving it a go.
I'm with you in that weighing regularly keeps me motivated on the most part, there's just a few days that I sometimes have a wobble but I think overall it's better for me than weighing less regularly.

10kaDay · 04/02/2021 09:33

@littlefireseverywhere: you could buy a tracker for around £20, it’s very motivating to have EVERY step count!

Me too - I've become very sad about choosing tops that have pockets in them, so everywhere I go, my phone comes too!

I realised it was getting out of control when DD wanted to borrow my phone for five minutes yesterday, and said 'it'll give you a few more steps too, while I'm using it!' Grin

10kaDay · 04/02/2021 19:24

Evening all - feeling less ill, and after a couple of days of no appetite have eaten a LOT of carbs today (so, must be on the mend!).

Tried to do cardio today, but wasn't feeling very lively so broke it up with a bit of jogging/marching on the spot and am going to leave it at 8k steps for today. Week has been a bit of a slow down/set back, but going to take it easy for a few more days if I need to then get back on it!
