I’ve gained a whopping 2 stone since March, and have an overall 3-4 stone to lose. This is a combination of : alcohol/crisps/general boredom snacking while WFH and a very sedentary lifestyle.

I used to walk 5-7k steps most days just going to work/out and about at weekends, but now seem to be glued to my office chair or sofa and am really feeling the ill-effects... also without the motivation of social life I have been less inclined to look after myself .

Does anyone want to join me on a push to be less sedentary (& eat healthily) to lose weight

My focus is:

 • 10k steps/day minimum
 • healthy (mostly unprocessed food) diet
 • limiting empty calories from alcohol & sugar

Just got a fit bit to count steps, & will be going for a walk/jog 1st thing to get most of my steps in, then making myself have a few other breaks in the day to get the numbers up
@SunscreenCentral We are all amazing - you included! Just got to keep pushing on, although God knows, there's times at the moment when it isn't easy. Love this thread though.
Yes, January is a tough time anyway and then add in lockdown etc.

Managed 900 calories on the exercise bike yesterday so feeling pretty good.

10kaDay · 24/01/2021 08:51

Morning all - in a jubilant mood over here as I’ve had my morning weigh in and am FIVE POUNDS down on last week ... am pleasantly surprised and VERY motivated to make next week a good one for a good number and a total stone off in January.

Will have my next weigh-in Friday or so now (I don’t want to be disappointed if number sticks/fluctuates)

I think that what has increased the rate is: doing low impact cardio every morning (videos: lots of lunges, squats, knee lifts, that kind of thing, no jumping around)

Also, last week I realised I can use some of my work calls to do some gentle cardio (walking moves) ... in the past I would have tried to multitask on those calls but it’s stressful. I’m going to try to find opportunities this week as I have several of these long meetings this week

Having a big snack at 4 is also helping me stick to planned dinners

Today: off to do a Cher workout video shortly (step) & will make bean burgers, sausage casserole and some soups for lunches and dinners this week. Also going to try a recipe for oat/seed crackers (hoping that won’t be an expensive mess) as find ryvita a bit meh and other crackers probably not v healthy..,

That's fantastic 10k - makes it all worthwhile! I am still stationery but I know I'm doing ok and am determined not to get demotivated by the scales!

Jemmy360 · 24/01/2021 19:01

5lbs is brilliant @10kaDay! Well done!

buckeejit · 24/01/2021 21:45

5lb is awesome, what a buzz!

LarsErickssong · 24/01/2021 21:47

Wow well done on all the amazing losses (I did start tagging people then realised you are all doing great and there were too many to tag!) I've lost 4lbs so far which I know could be better but I've still been having a takeaway and bottle of wine at the weekends as it really is the highlight of my week atm! DP is working away for much of feb, if Bojo doesn't change international travel restrictions by then, so my plan is to be super on it with the eating in those weeks as it's so much easier when I'm not seeing him at weekends!!

@SunscreenCentral as you can see I'm a looong way off 70k steps this week and even though I've been quiet the last few days (purely been too busy for MN) I'm making sure I'm still at least doing my weekly update to keep me on track.

So update for this week...crap week steps wise but ok weight wise, I really want to hit 60k next week and although work will still be crazy it should be a bit better than last week so I'm hoping with a few long weekend walks I will hit it, although saying that I'm not sure what I've done but my back is in absolute agony today so I've got my fingers crossed it feels better tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a good week Smile

@LarsErickssong: well done for keeping at it despite a crazy schedule, and on the 4 pound loss!

This is such a lovely supportive thread! Not a lot to report today as I wasn’t very active. I had a long walk planned but slept so badlylast night/worried about a family member- and the weather was so crap, I decided to just go easy on myself.
Back at it tomorrow though! I am 1/5 (.02) off 12lbs loss as of this morning and like @10kaDay I am VERY motivated to hit the magic number next week.

Mind yourselves everyone x

KatherineJaneway · 25/01/2021 09:44

Well done everyone!

Not good yesterday as I went to go for a walk and the snow came down like and quickly turning into heavy sleet but I'll make yup for it this week.

LarsErickssong · 25/01/2021 14:10

Managed a lunchtime walk for the first time in over a week which has put me on 5.3k, my back is still sore but was manageable whilst I was walking, I got rather windswept though I didn't realise how windy it was until I left the house!

ajandjjmum · 25/01/2021 15:51

1 lb off - better that than the other way, and as we did some baking over the weekend and I indulged (only a little!), it's my own fault! Grin

Walked to one of my oldies this morning with her shopping, as the roads are still very dodgy with the snow. By the time I got back it was 18,000 steps, so at least I'm on track with that!

Hope everyone has a great week.

buckeejit · 25/01/2021 18:21

Weigh in day for me & 2lb off. If I could have 3 off next week that would be a stone in the month which would really give me a boost to keep going. Done 13k steps today so looking forward to a lovely lazy evening.

Have filled in the amazing weight loss spreadsheet which pp provided and great to have the structure and goals defined. Although dropped off groceries to my parents and my mum had made us flakemeal biscuits, snowballs and raspberry ripple ice-cream, eek!

ajandjjmum · 26/01/2021 11:27

@buckeejit - I sympathise - I had a mixer for Christmas, and I'm scared to use it, as all of the recipes I look at are 'not good'!

LarsErickssong · 26/01/2021 21:14

@ajandjjmum I'm sure 18,000(!!) steps will make up for a few naughty treats over the weekend

@buckeejit really routing for you to get those 3lbs off this week, a stone in a month would be an amazing achievement Smile

I had a kick up the bum this morning as I needed to start a new pack of the pill and realised that means I need to be back at the drs in 8 weeks time. On Christmas Eve I got a right telling off from the Dr about my weight and he nearly wouldn't prescribe me the pill because of my BMI so I'm determined to get down to a BMI of 35 by my next appointment (although no doubt the goal posts will be moved then). That means I need to lose another 14lbs in 8 weeks.

So I'm ending today on 8,142 steps which I'm happy with as I've not managed to leave the house, that's just from stepping about the house when I can and a hiitstep class this evening.

10kaDay · 26/01/2021 23:24

Evening all! Made the target fairly easily today (pacing around in a couple of long calls definitely helped)

Well done @LarsErickssong on the 8k steps... it’s good going for not leaving the house! I’ve also not left for last 2 days so going to brave daylight tomorrow!

Is this week the last week of your work busy period? I think 8 weeks to lose a stone should be v do-able.

Bit of an off day food wise yesterday.... I forgot to get dinner started, & realised it would take 2 hours, so we ordered a takeaway. Was greasy, but cold, and definitely not worth the calories! am embracing ‘fakeaways’ instead: expect they will taste better and be a LOT healthier. Sweet and sour chicken/tofu on Friday, and also planning a faux Nando’s v soon

10kaDay · 27/01/2021 07:20

@ajandjjmum: 18,000 steps - wow, that’s nearly 3 hours of walking! It’s a great number & well done on your weight loss

@buckeejit: congratulations on the 2lb off, and 🤞🏼for another 3 this week for you, that would be fantastic!

Weight staying the same this week (to be expected after last week) but I’ve noticed I feel a lot more energetic for standing up/walking more during the working day. I have 2 x 1hr calls about training on using some software today, plan to stand and move around a bit during these (I do a kind of ‘crab walk’ side to side, like really crap 80s school disco dancing 😀). Looking for those opportunities makes the working day fly by and it’s a bit of a game :)

LarsErickssong · 27/01/2021 08:10

@10kaDay yes this week is the last week of being super busy thank goodness! Last week was definitely the worst but even though it's still busy this week I've managed to fit in a walk or a workout on each day.

Porridgeoat · 27/01/2021 08:21

Late to the party. What a great thread!

Starting weight 11 stone 2 weeks ago. Yet to weigh myself again.

5 foot 5

Was hardly walking before and feel better within myself

Porridgeoat · 27/01/2021 08:22

Finding 10k easier to do. It was quite a slog at first

10kaDay · 27/01/2021 10:33

@LarsErickssong: that’s great you’ve still managed to exercise every day

OP posts:
10kaDay · 27/01/2021 10:36

@Porridgeoat: hello & welcome to the thread :)

I’ve also been amazed how quickly being more active helps me feel better: I’m much less tired/drained at the end of the work day

Looking forward to getting out for a walk this afternoon (I’ve met my steps but inside the house last few days): without a step goal I don’t think I’d be thinking of it

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 27/01/2021 11:47

I'm surprised by how many steps you actually tot up during the course of the day at home - a time/motion/productivity survey of me in the kitchen would not look good!

KatherineJaneway · 27/01/2021 11:48

Well done all Flowers

Monday was good with a long walk resulting in 17k steps. Yesterday did nearly 10k steps and 800 calories on the bike. Trying to eat healthier but it's hard to stay away from the wine rack with all these cold, lonely evenings Sad

10kaDay · 27/01/2021 12:44

@ajandjjmum - it’s possible I know spend more time stepping than working 😉 but I’m glad that I’ve started moving a lot more during day, I feel so much fresher

@KatherineJaneway: 17k steps, wow, that’s impressive! I haven’t quite hit 14k yet, so your number is something to aspire to :)

OP posts:
buckeejit · 27/01/2021 18:15

17k is what I'd do in a day in London! That's fab.

I would struggle to do 10k in the house & would be a bit miserable, although I can do about 7k or so on a busy day. My mindees are dragged out every day for the same walk!

Great to have a thread for this, it helps me to be accountable. I've cracked going out in the morn even when it's raining which is good. The ice has made me just glad I'm not likely to slip. Hope it stays decent weather.

I'm trying a new chicken & rice recipe in the instantpot for tea & crossing my fingers it turns out ok but not hopeful-I put frozen veg in before cooking & should have done it after!

On 13k for today, sitting on sofa for rest of day now. I saw my Fitbit emails today & am doing twice the steps I was last month 😁
