HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

@PusheenLove it's got Marine Collagen, Biotin, Vitamin C and Selenium in.

All supposed to be good for your skin, hair and nails. Collagen is a natural protein though, found in fish oils and gelatin so I did wonder if the protein content could make you feel less hungry, that's not cited as a benefit on the packet though and could just be psychological.

PusheenLove · 28/01/2021 12:52

@SunshineCake

Help with my tummy iirc.
That's interesting because I've found it makes me quite bloated. I'm trying to figure out why that might be? All my research suggests it should help with bloating Confused

I see. How many calories?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2021 12:58

FAQs just say under 10 calories per effervescent tablet.

Thank you. I was wondering if it would break a fast; looks like it would.

@PusheenLove

Has anyone tried apple cider vinegar for weight loss?
Ooooh, I'd forgotten I'd heard of this. Interesting.

Hello lovelies

Weigh in day and delighted by 2lbs, now 17lbs down- slow but sure over 3 months. Next goal, 21lbs which will be half way for me! I really feel that it'll be a fabulous boost.

Halfshrunk I think your tip about upping the water has really helped this week! I've been quaffing it like it's going out of fashion!

Celebrated with 2 slices of my favourite bread with real butter and vegemite and a massive cup of tea this morning. Bliss- the simple things in life.

Pepper54 · 28/01/2021 14:14

SunshineCake that is frustrating. I stick on some music when I’m having a bad day. You do sound fit though and must have dropped a dress size, I think you said you’ve lost 1.5 stone? I will be 54 this weekend and you are so right to have taken up exercise before you hit 50.

PusheenLove · 28/01/2021 14:29

@Puffalicious congratulations! Star What diet are you following?

Puffalicious · 28/01/2021 14:31

Just calorie counting Pusheenlove using MFP and try to only eat 11am-7pm. I've never been a breakfast fan and it felt good to be given 'permission' to cut it out as DH insists it's the most important meal of the day!

I'm a slow loser, but sticking at it this time.

Your DH sounds oldskool.

I try not to eat late at night too, but the urge is always there. Blush

Puffalicious · 28/01/2021 15:12

He is oldskool- not old but oldskool!- he is also super fit and I suppose he needs the energy.

My biggest fight is not to snack in the evenings. The struggle is real!

CescaNicole · 28/01/2021 15:46

I'm intrigued by this effervescent collagen @halfshrunkmoretogo

My hair is falling out so badly which I know is common post partum but it's falling at an alarming rate. I wonder if this would help 🤔

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 15:51

It varies @Pepper54 as I started at 12 stone 9 on day one of couch 25k and my lowest was 10 stone 10.8lb but I've been 11 stone 2.4 since Friday.

Drybird2020 · 28/01/2021 16:47

A question for intermittent fasters: how much do you eat on your non fasting days? I find it really difficult to stick to my TDEE minus 500 the day after fasting. I feel hollow and empty, constantly hungry and craving carbs.

What IS it about nightfall that makes us want to graze BlushAngry

Around 1500.

I'm 5ft so it's more than enough.

I aim for 》800 on fast days.

I fast every other day.

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 17:54

I didn't even know I was supposed to have a non fasting day !

PusheenLove · 28/01/2021 17:57

I interpret non fasting day to mean more calories rather than the time they are eaten.
SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 18:12

I don't calorie count.

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 28/01/2021 18:24

@TheRealHousewife I am doing Weight Watchers online. As a plan, I love it, it was worked brilliantly for me in the past, I just have to stick to it!

This is week 5 on track, feeling so much better!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2021 19:10

@SunshineCake there's different kinds of intermittent fasting.

So 16:8 is where you eat within a 8hr window eg 11am -7pm and then don't eat for the rest of the day but no calorie limit.

5:2 you have 2 very low calorie days a week like 800 calorie maximum then the other 5 days you either have no limit or one with more give.

I stick with 16:8 becomes it comes naturally to me to not have breakfast and I would find an 800 calorie limit twice a week too restrictive.

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 19:30

I mostly do 18:6 but this week I've had a couple of 8pm need a snack occasions. I eat lunch around 12.30-1pm and tea 5.30pm with a snack at 3pm if I want it. That's when I would have a biscuit or some chocolate. I just can't do calorie counting when I cook from scratch 99% of the time plus make up recipes.

Years ago I did 5:2 and it messed up my metabolism for years. I lost only a stone too. It has taken a long time to learn when I am hungry since then and I would never do it again.

Puffalicious · 28/01/2021 21:50

Sunshinecake I've been putting my favourite recipes into MPF and it's actually really easy if anyone is calorie counting.

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 22:16

Thank you but I tried it before and it just made things worse for me re eating issues.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 29/01/2021 00:03

I think I must be doing something wrong. When I do it, it wants to convert the ingredients. The conversions it picks are often odd and the calorie count vary wildly from the original. Am i missing something? Why can’t it just work from the ingredients in the recipe?
