HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

Morning All

My WOW today is 10 st 6 lb so a 1 lb loss.

SW: 12 st 1 lb (Oct 20)
CW: 10 st 6 lb
GW: 9 st 7 lb

Happy with a 1lb loss, although I had food poisoning last night so I'm not sure if that has made the loss rather than me being good 😅
We shall see.
I'm going to do an extra weigh in on Sunday to round the month of January off.

Well Done for everyone's losses this week!
Hope you're all OK!

Pepper54 · 27/01/2021 10:04

Hi everyone, feeling good here and just out for my run. Am gradually reducing my carbs as I know for me it’s the bread/potatoes/pasta that are the reason for my weight gain.

B Coffee
L Smoked salmon and home made bread (1 slice)
D Veg casserole with chickpeas

Hope everyone has a good day.

132orbust · 27/01/2021 10:57

I'm sorry @SunshineCake whatever the reason and it may be your decision that cannot be easy Flowers
@HalfShrunkMoreToGo me too really as we grow a lot of fruit and I eat tons with yogurt but I have found sachets of porridge for lunch both low cal, many different flavours and warm and satisfying and tastes good with our frozen summer fruit(nearly gone now)
Less than a stone to go @CescaNicole but sorry to hear about last night!!
Drinking a big cup of tea until lunch at 12.00 which will be 16 hours since dinner.

Pepper54 · 27/01/2021 11:22

HalfShrunkMoreToGo congratulations on your 53 lb loss, that’s brilliant! You must feel so much better without the extra weight.

SunshineCake I think my trainers are ok, I run around a muddy paddock and it’s good so far, no one can see me other than some sheep. I asked for Sweaty Betty leggings for Christmas, in a large so they would be comfortable. I was kidding myself, squeezed in quite painfully! I am hoping when I lose 7 lbs they will be more comfortable. They have a deep pocket for my phone and a clever zip pocket for keys. Amazed by this, my last running leggings were before mobile phones Grin.

AuldFox · 27/01/2021 11:48

Very pleased to hear about all the great losses, well done everyone!

I wish spring would hurry up, I too find it hard to stay away from the stodgy yummy foods in the winter. I think this is probably the first winter ever that I haven’t put on at least 10lb though!

SunshineCake · 27/01/2021 12:59

I need to reread again so I can talk to you all properly but wanted to post effort I forgot again.

Run this morning of 6.39km, good times then disappointment in the scales. Same as every day since Friday. Still hoping due a whoosh!

TheRealHousewife · 27/01/2021 16:13

Hello Lovelies

Another small loss on the scales this morning. A way to go to get back to my recent lowest weight. Pain bearable without the meds. My system really doesn’t like tablets and any relief they bring isn’t worth the cost in brain fog, tiredness and water/waste retention etc.

@SunshineCake fingers crossed 🤞 for you and hope your system soon settles. Pesky hormones.

For those ladies who’ve posted about poor sleep in relation to reduced calorie intake ... from my own experience if I go too low calorie and low carb I can’t sleep. However, I if get too sleep deprived, my appetite increases. It’s all a fine balance. To aid sleep I have a magnesium supplement and a few pistachios. I feel they help. Nonetheless the body is a complex thing.

Take care and stay safe.

Thanks @132orbust Yes excited for this last stone to shift 👏🏻

Interesting stuff about sleep @TheRealHousewife, my troubled nights are so sporadic I'm sure they are related to something specific rather than just a random thing! A complex thing indeed!!

TheRealHousewife · 27/01/2021 21:36

This is ‘Sleep’ Tea. I don’t know how effective it is. Bought when on offer and yet to try. In fact might go and make one and take up when I go in the bath 🛁

Has anyone tried apple cider vinegar for weight loss?

joynoelle · 28/01/2021 07:45

10 stone 4.4 this morning! After staying the same for a while it's now suddenly dropping Shock

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2021 08:05

Things I have been doing in the last 2 days to stop the snacking:

  • bottle of water constantly on hand
  • knitting in the evening to keep my hands busy - DD wants a purple and pink hammerhead shark.
  • applied fake nails - I am a nail biter so usually very very short, having nails makes opening snack packets hard work and off putting 😂
  • started having Voost effervescent collagen supplements which taste like sparkling strawberry. Add 1 tablet to a glass/bottle of water once a day. Doing this in the morning and I don't know if it's the collagen or the water but it does seem to be helping me feel less hungry at lunch.

Have come in under calorie count both days without feeling like I'm struggling with it, and hopefully both the water and the collagen will help make my winter tired skin look more radiant (can but hope right!).

Pepper54 · 28/01/2021 09:26

Morning, no I haven’t tried apple cider vinegar, for every person saying it helps another person says it will damage your teeth (can’t remember the exact reason).

Congrats on loss joynoelle and great tips there HalfShrunkMoreToGo.

I ate a small handful of pistachios last night as a snack and then looked up the calories, ate about 250 kc worth. I am going to limit myself to 10 as a snack in future.

Not sure what I am eating today, almost out of fresh food so it may be something tinned/frozen.

Looking forward to my brisk walk, I am already finding I can put on my socks more easily. My mum is 84 and I honestly think she has more flexibility than me. She walks every day, swims twice weekly and gardens (doesn’t live in the UK). It really is use it or lose it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

joynoelle · 28/01/2021 09:57

Thanks pepperSmile

Drybird2020 · 28/01/2021 10:20

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo I had not heard of collagen supplements. Interesting! And that's a good list of ideas for reducing snacking. My nails are absolutely crap and I often think I'd like to paint them but when I do they chip within seconds and I wonder why I bothered...

10st 11 this morning. I've been bouncing around the 11st mark for a couple of months now. I really want to keep up the momentum but am finding it hard on my non fasting days - doing a lot of cooking and baking for the family which means delicious comfort food is around all the time.

Still, only 4lb to go until my target of 10st 7, at which point I will review whether I want to maintain there or go a bit lower.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 28/01/2021 10:28

@Drybird2020 I just got the Superdrug glue on nails (£4.99 and buy one get one half price)

I started ACV a week ago. I've found it balances my blood sugars and really helps me to fast longer. I drink it with a straw then use mouthwash.

ooooh I'll have to give those supplements a try! What are they intended to do? Could it just be the water making you feel fuller?
Pepper54 · 28/01/2021 11:58

PusheenLove straw is a great idea. Our larder is a mess, I plan to clear it out this afternoon, there might be a bottle in there. If there is and it’s in date I will give it a go. I was going to say I have nothing to lose but of course I do, 2.5 stone in fact Grin.

B Coffee
L Houmous and home made bread
D Roast peppers, onions, courgettes and lentils

I was skeptical at first, but ACV is going really well for me.

I love that you don't eat breakfast. It's such an outdated tradition Grin

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 12:27

@PusheenLove. I started on apple cider vinegar after I went for intolerance testing and she advised me to start on it. I can't say it did anything for weight loss. If you are going to try it it has to be ACV from the mother. I've gone on to Apple cider gummies from Holland and Barrett as more palatable.

Well done @joynoelle

Great ideas @HalfShrunkMoreToGo

I'm feeling a bit disheartened this morning. Just back from a six km run with four passes up a steep hill and I'm the same weight I've been since Friday. The tape measure says I've put two cm on but I look slimmer than before. Just feel really fed up. Felt better when I realised I have only run twice this week but that didn't last when I realised I have also done an hour on the bike plus 36 minutes another day and done two long hard going walks. I wanted to take tomorrow off running to rest my hip and back but now I feel I need to run so I can have the weekend off otherwise I'll be going in to a second week with no loss.

Yep, it's got the mother.

Why were you advised to take it?

SunshineCake · 28/01/2021 12:32

Help with my tummy iirc.
