HELLO, WELCOME & HAPPY NEW YEAR! Actually that doesn’t read right with all the C19 malarkey. Strange & unprecedented times. Nonetheless, 2021 marks a fresh start and and an opportunity for renewal. This thread is for those of us who enjoy healthy eating, exercising and feeling motivated to reach (or maintain) a healthy weight/bmi. The founding members of these threads are inspirational and supportive in equal measure. I’m sure @SunshineCake & @FatGirlShrinking won’t mind me holding them up as our Poster Girls. They both did absolutely fantastic in 2020! ⭐️👏🥇

They have both demonstrated that if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. In December I maintained; I’m hoping to see a loss this January which would see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on these threads. We are in this together.

This thread is moving fast! Some great results posted! 👍👏⭐️🥇🎖Keep going, you’ll be glad you did.

Thank you @SunshineCake not feeling brilliant to be honest. Having pain meds really messes with my body/water retention/appetite etc. Hoping for a better week. Hope everything is ok in your household/family.

Wishing you all a great Sunday Evening ❤️

Sorry to hear that @TheRealHousewife. Hope you have a better week.

I'll be glad when this week is over and that my eating accident passes quickly and without incident.

I'm just so tired. Sleeping so late which isn't like me at all. DH had to wait 1.5 hours for me to wake today. In 25 years that has never happened.

132orbust · 17/01/2021 21:49

Sorry you are having a difficult time @TheRealHousewife. We will keep going, much motivated by your thread and all the great tips on here.
Hope the week ahead is kind to you.

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2021 14:10

Thank ou @SunshineCake and @132orbust 🙏. Feeling a bit better than yesterday so will be doing a roast chicken dinner that I didn’t do yesterday. I’ve also made a gluten free courgette loaf tin cake that included courgettes. Feels so virtuous and utterly delicious. All calorie counted.

You must have needed your sleep @Sunshinecake. You might need a couple of what I call re-feed days. Work out you tdee here and eat that a few days/a week. You might see a rise on the scales but it won’t be fat, just water & waste. You might find your energy comes back. Also are you due any blood tests ... sorry I missed some posts so might have missed any updates. When my cals are too low I start shedding hair, or rather it gets worse. As I got older it a right balancing act making sure I get all my nutrients without exceeding my cal limit. Which is reducing due to thyroid.

Warm welcome @Avocadorable, jump right in. Great group of ladies on this thread. Positive and encouraging.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife lovely bunch on here, I read from first post through before I posted just to make sure 😉
Doing old fashioned saft diet here (stay away from the table🤣) if I’m not hungry don’t eat, stop when full and not picking at what dcs let on their plates. Low carb works for me.
Lunch soup
2-3 large sweet potatoes, 2-3 white potatoes, 3 leeks, 1kg carrots, 1/2kg of parsnip 4 stock cubes or melts 1 1/2 hour on stove and blitzed smooth with hand gun feeds lunch family of 6 2 adult dc 2 primary age dc and dh working from home (brown soda bread for rest of house)
Usually have a few mugs left over in fridge for emergencies if needed

TheRealHousewife · 18/01/2021 16:45

You’re welcome @Avocadorable 😊. Your soup recipe sounds rather nice ... blitzed smooth with hand gun 🤣. I’ll think of that when I’m using mine 🤣. Your eating plan sounds good! It’s always handy to have stuff prepared for emergencies too.

Avocadorable · 18/01/2021 16:55

🤣 have a peculiar way of describing things I know gun I mean hand blender 😉 some soups like chicken I “ blend rough” food processor on pulse setting 😆

SunshineCake · 18/01/2021 19:32

I don't calorie count @TheRealHousewife so no clue how many I eat a day. I filled in all the link you posted, except body fat per cent age as didn't understand, and it said ideal weight is 8 stone 9. to 9 stone 4. When I was 21 I was nine stone three Shock. Not due any tests other than a smear next month and a brain scan the doctor has forgotten about.

Disappointed this morning that after two runs I was the same weight as yesterday but I feel I have eaten well today. Less chocolate than normal. Dh has taken ds to get emergency clothes so will need will power as I expect he will bring me a treat home. The other day I turned down a bowl of Doritos and salsa he had made me. I ate two then said no, I don't want them. Didn't want the two either.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/01/2021 20:26

@SunshineCake my 'Ideal' weight is 10st 1 which would put me at about 1 stone less than I weighed when I was 11 years old 😂 not sure I'll ever get there to be honest, and not sure how I'd look if I did!

11stone 10lb puts me at the very top end of healthy BMI so that's my goal and then we'll see what happens.

SunshineCake · 18/01/2021 20:48

I need to find my BMI so I can work towards that @HalfShrunkMoreToGo.

Onthebrink67 · 18/01/2021 21:19

Can I sidle back in after going AWOL since the start of the year. I’ve been finding this lockdown really hard and have been “comforting” myself with food. Obviously I now actually feel worse but I am determined to weigh myself in the morning and start afresh. I’ve been reading the thread and everyone seems to be doing really well.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/01/2021 21:22

Of course you can @Onthebrink67 I did the same last year. Started in January full of the New year spirit and drive, then we locked down in March and I ate my body weight in Danish pastries in between making teaching resources for my then 5yo😂

Step on it and just do your best. Even if you only make one healthy food switch or pick up 1 extra exercise session a week it will be a step in the right direction.

Onthebrink67 · 18/01/2021 21:26

Thanks @HalfShrunkMoreToGo I appreciate it. Planning to start a food diary tomorrow as recording it definitely makes me think twice about mindless snacking

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 18/01/2021 21:35

@Onthebrink67 the best thing I did was sign up for MyFitnessPal, logging all my food does make me think more before I eat it. I also made it a rule that before I cook/unwrap the food I log it. Then if the calories make me cringe I have the choice to put the food down and get something different.

I am also a big believer in taking measurements and/or pictures monthly, that way even if the scales aren't cooperating you can still see losses.

I weigh daily and it's helped me to understand that my weight does fluctuate but the overall trend has been downward, that means if I just happen to be having a bad scale day on my weekly weigh in it doesn't upset me.

This is what mid September last year to today has looked like, along with a trend line of where I could be by April if I stick to it.

Onthebrink67 · 18/01/2021 21:45

Thanks @HalfShrunkMoreToGo I will definitely do measurements and I love your graph. I may have to start a spreadsheet 😃 I have used MFP before but I find putting recipes in quite slow. I know it works but I am quite wedded to a manual lust but I will log before I eat thanks for that
