A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Inky did you watch Black Books? I can't hear "little book of calm" mentioned without seeing that in my head.

My friend actually bought me a copy of that book because we were both fans of black books :o such a great show.

I was about to mention black books, you beat me to it. Having gourmet pie for tea. Not v diety but will share with dh.

SingToTheSky · 16/03/2021 19:48

Well just the other day I did add a drop of lavender to milk and leave town with an orange

😂😂😂😂

That's one of my favourites

I think that might be the best opening episode ever, do they think they wondered how they'd top that?!

Hello exercisers, furniture restorers and hunters of ghost chickens everywhere.

I'm going to talk a bit about diet, sorry. (BBC voice over: this next bit contains scenes that some viewers may find distressing). This last while I've become a bit troubled by what I've let myself become. I can sense those familiar panicky sensations are returning, where each day I resolve to do better and each night I feel guilty about another day of crap eating. So, I ordered a book and I've started reading it. It's this one. So far it's all making sense and isn't preachy or about depriving yourself.

Just in case anyone's interested. Do carry on. As you were.

longestlurkerever · 17/03/2021 13:57

Sounds good Gwen. I have been a bit rubbish this week. Got chocolates for mother's day despite saying flowers would be more appreciated which have been hard to resist and have also drunk more wine than was truly ideal. Need some proper fun in my life I think. Hoping things will start to feel brighter soon.

AcornAutumn · 17/03/2021 18:11

Gwen glad it's helping.

long sorry you're feeling low, hope it lifts soon.
Btw did you order the blue grass after seeing it here?

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 17/03/2021 18:22

Yes! I mentioned it to dh a propos mother's day.

Am feeling a bit better already thanks. Suspect hormones playing a role.

AcornAutumn · 17/03/2021 18:27

Aw, i like that this thread is contributing to gardens!

Ooh I love Black Books. Time for a rewatch I think. Someone once told me I reminded them of Bernard and I was so happy. (Probably ruined the illusion.) I was 17 at the time Wink

After strong first day new regime joy and enthusiasm collapsed yesterday. Bad combo of events - had to keep the kids off school/ nursery and head to Covid test centre (despite being sure they didn't have it, but couldn't get them into school without one.) That was all fine but DD pooed herself on the way home - luckily outside an Iceland so bought all the wet wipes and carrier bags. (Lady on the till must have thought I was deranged As when she asked me if I wanted a carrier bag I said no thanks, then in the same breath asked for 3.)

I'd also conveniently forgotten I'd got a hello fresh freebie so had lots of luxurious eating waiting on the doorstop. I desperately wanted a Turkish takeaway (hello kebab, I blame you all for sewing that seed.) after all the faff, but DD insisted on the truffle pasta. High fat, high carb, highly delicious. I succumbed to her will as a special treat as she'd just got her first wobbly tooth. Did she eat it? Did she heck. Did I eat most of hers? Of course.

Did i also have a packet of animal biscuits, half a bag of walnuts and packet of raisins for dessert - oh yes! Wink

AcornAutumn · 17/03/2021 19:15

inky I never mention food on here so I am blameless Halo

Hope you have a nice relaxing evening.

I'm like a hygienically clean Bernard. 😂 Everyone knows I'm going to die upside down on the floor of a pub toilet! Whores will have their trinkets!

But....where do you get a friend like Manny?

I've had an unexpectedly tiring day - had to go to the City for an emergency meeting but enjoyed that, I mean the City, not the meeting - so no workout.

That Calm reed diffuser is good btw, even if it was a bit Crystal Maze trying to open it. I think packaging strategists have detailed schemes to outdo each other in terms of inaccessibility and particularly, invisibility of access points!

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 17/03/2021 21:12

Oooh at going to the city. I'd love a change of scene. My walls a new colour though - blue! That'll have to do.

Actually sort of missed running today even though i was looking forward to a rest day. Now have an early meeting and video call for dn's birthday to fit in beforehand so going to have to find another time to go but hopefully will manage it at some point.

Also need to finish job application. Can't really quite find the motivation but I felt excited when I first saw the ad so trying to recapture that. Is at the supreme court which I do think would be fun, though is same thankless pay as current job Grin.

Happy St Patrick's Day to anyone celebrating.

inkysplatter · 17/03/2021 21:37

Ooh I've been scheming to cycle into the city whilst the kids are in school and nursery. I want to see it whilst it's still closed up.

DS is only at nursery 2 days a week and I should definitely spring clean the tip. Garden visits looming on the horizon and all. I should also be doing work for my course which is fun and necessary but hard to find time for.

So impressed with all this running. I want to love running but I just don't. I think I need to get back on couch25k as i remember how fit I was when I joined my old gym after doing that.

AcornAutumn · 17/03/2021 21:40

I forgot it was St Pat's Day! Had some interesting ones in NY!

long I think I might have seen your reservoir on Landscape Artist of the Year, just been watching it.

Good luck with the application.

Nearly did an emergency junk food run tonight - there was one at the start of the thread. Happily distraction worked!

OP posts:
AcornAutumn · 17/03/2021 21:44

inky I just too clumsy for that kind of thing, maybe if there was a track near me, I'd try couch to 5k. I hear it's doable and fun. But I just can't run on pavements etc, I will literally just fall over my feet. Sad but true.

Are you going to the gym when it opens?

OP posts:
longestlurkerever · 18/03/2021 08:24

I had to go to Euston and kings cross a few times and cycled there. Yes, that was my reservoir! Haven't seen the show though. Bookings open Monday for the following week, hurrah!

inkysplatter · 18/03/2021 10:02

Well done for distractions! It's amazing if you can power through the craving passes. I needed reminding of this. I've taken to going to bed at the same time as the kids. If I'm not in the kitchen (which I usually am in the evening) I don't think of snacking so often.

In the past I've walked to the park to warm up and then run on the grass, I have ridiculously weak ankles though and I'm prone to sprains. Running also makes me feel awful. I not convinced it's good for me. 😂

Actually although it's now covered in cushions and blankets like a cosy nest I did invest in a fitness trampoline recently.

When I do it it's actually amazing as it's low impact cardio - so feels much better than running and it's fun. Also in theory it folds flat ish which was its other major selling point.

Just back from the school run and nursery drop, this is my second full day to myself ever. I have hoards of crap to deal with in the table, endless homework.a mountain of recycling, boring admin but first - I'm going to have a bounce!

I've cycled to kings cross a fair few times this lockdown! My parents live there and I have a few health appointments around there. I've found a fairly quiet route, although had a sketchy moment when my liability of a scarf blew across my entire face. Luckily It was big empty ish road and I retrieved but it took me a moment to react whilst I just thought 'ffs this is such a me thing to happen.'

When I first started cycling on the roads in Brighton around 18-19, I I got my scarf caught in the peddles. I remember thinking oh I'll deal with it later, but then every turn got my head closer to the floor. 😅 I had to get my friends to unravel me. Luckily it was a long stretchy scarf.
I made a snood recently. It's fractionally too razzy as it's ice blue zebra print but it was the fabric I had and it's so cosy and much safer. It also doubles up as a mask if you've forgotten one for the school run.

AcornAutumn · 18/03/2021 10:22

inky hope you enjoyed your bouncing, if you pardon 😂

That scarf thing would happen to me.

long glad it's opening.

inkysplatter · 18/03/2021 10:29

😂 obviously I've just cleaned the cooker instead. 🙄

inkysplatter · 18/03/2021 10:43

I won't go back to the gym though, the Crexhe has stopped taking kids over 2 since Covid so it's no use to me really. I may join a closer one but it seems like it has a potential to be a hotbed of transmission with everyone panting away and sharing equipment.

I do miss it though. I was contemplating a PT a couple of times a month but I think I need to get a little bit fitter before I take on park humiliation.

MrsBobDylan · 18/03/2021 10:53

I've missed so much, have enjoyed catching up but I'm confused about long's reservoir and am now imagining you work for MI5 Acorn as an undercover spy, hence the need for emergency meetings in the city Grin

I've heard really good things about that book Gwen. Can you report your findings back please to No boring weight loss talk HQ please?

DH and I have a negotiated a diet peace pact after he got all huffy last night when I made another ill-advised joke about sloppy vegetables.

Inky I can neither find the motivation to run or clean the oven. The closest I get to the latter is buying an oven cleaning kit and since I now have five and they all stand untouched, I think it might never happen Sad

AcornAutumn · 18/03/2021 11:02

MrsBob I will clarify

Long personally owns a reservoir in North East London and I am in charge of 24 hour surveillance for it, it's a very large area.

The camera HQ is in the City and yesterday, I was called to respond to a chicken shaped translucent image picked up on the cameras.

HTH.

OP posts:
inkysplatter · 18/03/2021 11:31

The reservoir sounds beyond exciting!

@MrsBobDylan I must confess I only did the hobs (and hoovered the inside 😂) But oh to my shame - an electrician sent by the letting agents has arrived. OH was meant to postpone. I'd pull out so much stuff for the new robot hoover that is on strike. Every surface is heavy with junk, everything we move has mouse poo and general detritus behind it. He needs to be in everywhere. We've banned him from our room. This is beyond mortifying. Confused I was about to spring clean, honest!
