Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

I have yet to try the workouts you suggested at the start of this thread, Acorn Blush, but I know I can very rarely manage workouts, so good on yer for persevering. I find even basic yoga has positions I can't get into, and I have no ab strength at all. I really should try to do them, because my bingo wings and my paunchy apron aren't going to shift just from running.

longestlurkerever · 14/03/2021 17:25

Yes I'm in awe of the workouts too. Not a very diety day today. Had pie and cake. Have been running though (dd1 insisted on accompanying me by bike) and a long walk with kids. Downloaded a treasure trail thingy and bizarrely it mentioned the Highgate chicken ghost Acorn!

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 14:34

long the chicken ghost story is quite popular among north Londoners IME.

Gwen and long I'm in awe of you both running, l literally can't, too clumsy.

Gwen, you mentioned being quite robust. I am not at all robust, so the easy Jessica workouts I do are a way to try and build a very low baseline of strength which most people already have. I'm trying to do a long term plan so hope to move to something more challenging in summer.

I have learned that it's pointless for me to do a workout that's really tough because that level of exhaustion the next day just puts me in a bad mood and makes me eat more.

Acorn I have been a north Londoner for nearly 20 years but am originally an interloper from the actual North and may have missed a few steps in my assimilation.

I am pretty clumsy too. Think I may actually have dyspraxia but never diagnosed. Totally agree re overdoing it. I was reluctant to start running again because I could barely walk for the rest of the week last time I ran 2 days in a row but I cycle more these days and it must have helped a bit with my general strength/fitness if not my weight.

Still feeling podgy. A free rice pudding arrived unbidden with my Turkish takeaway at the weekend and is tempting but I have so far resisted. Small wins.

GwendolineWindowlene · 15/03/2021 15:47

Oh god, a Turkish takeaway.

The thing I miss about living in London is a really good kebab. You can keep your world beating culture, architecture and financial services. Grin

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 16:17

Well, this Londoner knows her ghost stories but....never had a kebab. Not joking.

I think I am dyspraxic but my sister thinks the fact that I drove - learned quickly and was good - means I can't be.

Honestly I don't run for the bus because the sheer number of times I've tripped over my own feet. Can't learn dance steps either.

Sadly I lost my driving ability with mental health meds. Otherwise I'd definitely drive to Highgate in hopes of meeting the chicken. Grin

There's an excellent TV show/film in there somewhere. Surely Spring Heeled Jack could have him tucked under his arm?

Hello all! I have been a misery today and don't really know why. I usually love putting on music to sew along too but I couldn't find anything I wanted to listen to which has never happened before.

I had a few treats yesterday including making an inroad into the cooking Sherry, it was delicious!

Acorn I am getting excited about my garden project. Need to wait until dh gets paid (bloody ages!) until I can buy the paving stones, sand cement and benches, fencing and finally the important bit, the flowers! I have got it all planned though and lists have been made Grin

I too love Turkish and a chicken shish. I read today that once women start going into the menopause we need 300 less calories a day.

Ffs, why do we always get the shitty end of the evolutionary stick? And men burn more calories than us everybody when they are the same height and weight. Angry

inkysplatter · 15/03/2021 16:48

Hello, just found this thread. On day 1 of the new regime.

Wanted to say Longest Lurker, I've only realised I'm dyspraxic in my mid 30s, currently awaiting assessment but I tick most of the boxes. A lot of my friends are but it never occurred to me until I was asked to look into it for DD. OH is but has really good hand eye coordination and balance but it affects his processing in other ways.

Today I had an excuse to cycle which was nice. Youngest has just started nursery so hoping the break in the endless the endless cycle of producing snacks will have a positive effect on my own snacking.

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 16:49

MrsBob ah, lovely garden plans. I think I've pushed mum to her limit of what I can sneak into her garden.

Sorry you're feeling low.

This might be a good one for a cheer up dance it out...sorry about the man peeing but he does it before he weighs himself 😂

That has put a smile on my face, thank you Acorn. I loved how he took one foot off the scales, I might try that, it'll really aid my weight loss! My favourite dancer was the guy who came in with the tea trolley.

I think tomorrow I will watch a Fred Astaire movie.

Hi @inkysplatter lovely to have you join us Smile
My brother is Dyspraxic and many years ago when he was on a date, on a rollercoaster. His bag ripped open against the platform as they set off, his car/house keys flung out and he gave himself a black eye when he his hand was caught by the g-force Grin

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 19:19

Welcome inky! I hope you enjoy our mad mix of music, ghosts, decorating, owls, camp running outfits.. Grin

MrsBob Glad you enjoyed it, a favourite of mine. I love the way everybody just comes in and dances. I love George - obvs - but when you just listen to the music, you forget his rhythm also made him a dancer - apologies for the pun! Such a stylish gent too.

Mum was sad he didn't get a memorial statue or something. I know his family said he would hate it but I don't think "we" need one because he will be well loved and remembered even in a century's time I reckon. Wonderful legacy.

I do wish I'd gone to the Highgate Festival the year they closed it with a pub singalong of George songs. It would have been such fun and a lovely tribute but it was Sunday night and I think I had to be up at 5 for work the next day!

Thank you! Interest thoroughly picqued with camp running wear. I want all of that. I've been browsing vintage shell suits wondering if they count as waterproof trousers 🤨

@MrsBobDylan that's absolutely hilarious and feels so like something that would happen to me. I made a friend whilst away on a residential and he initially thought I was being abused, by the second day in my company he appreciated I was absolutely fine, just a bad combination uncoordinated and impatient. (I couldn't figure out how to get off an assault course and just kind of leapt off - it probably looked worse than it was.)

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 20:21

inky "I've been browsing vintage shell suits wondering if they count as waterproof trousers 🤨 "

I say yes!

I wouldn't go near an assault course, I'd break my neck. How did you manage to safely exit?

I'm very impatient. I try not to let it show at work but in real life, people have felt that I have been very abrupt with them.

OP posts:
inkysplatter · 15/03/2021 21:25

I dismounted with all the grace of a tranquillised elephant and just sort of threw myself off it and landed in a heap. It was a couple of meters high. I tend to get vertigo and after a bit of a jibber it felt like the only option I had left. Think I was high on adrenaline and country air - it went a lot better than it should have.

OH is very patient, but honestly I get lot more done. Hurrah for being impatient. And purple and gold shel suits.

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 21:51

inky a couple of metres? I couldn't have got there at all, never mind back to ground level.

Love it! I'm in 🙌

longestlurkerever · 15/03/2021 22:25

Welcome Inky, I'm new here but people have been very welcoming and I think you'll fit in nicely. That is totally me re the keys etc. It's kind of funny but also debilitating. I totally hate lockdown but one benefit is WFH and not having to navigate commuting and wearing tights and generally having to be in the right place at the right time. I miss all sorts of things like work drinks but not the office as such.

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 22:27

@Decoratin

Love it! I'm in 🙌
Welcome! We love decorating talk too!

MrsBobDylan · 16/03/2021 09:23

Welcome @Decoratin It is fab to have some more people to talk nonsense with Grin

I have a lovely niece who is 10 and just about to start the diagnosis pathway to somewhere. I have lost count of the times she has walked into the room and hit the decks. She goes at 100mph though and hardly takes breath before she's back up. She is an excellent rugby player because she's so hardy!

I feel happier today and am going to do some sewing while listening, singling and occasionally dancing to gorgeous George Glitterball

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2021 09:55

Acorn I am Shock at you never having had a kebab. Proper kebabs are actually a pretty healthy choice, grilled meat and piles of salad. Are you veggie because falafel is an option? I live near a branch of E Mono which Giles Coren raved about in the times.

GwendolineWindowlene · 16/03/2021 11:14

Stop with the kebab talk now! A proper shish is a thing of beauty.

I attempted a run this morning, but just wasn't feeling it so ended up walking instead.

AcornAutumn · 16/03/2021 12:04

Gwen I feel for you. I had that a few times with the gym, one of many reasons I don't belong to one any more.

Good that you had a walk though.

I just opened a reed diffuser I got for my birthday. The packaging looked horrific, hence I didn't check the smell before.

It was a nightmare to open, i had to use a corkscrew! Is this normal?

Guess what it's called....CALM.

longestlurkerever · 16/03/2021 16:18

Ha Acorn, they must be confident in its ability to rectify the situation stress caused by the packaging.

My mother's day blue grass has arrived! Going to plant it now.
