A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Aw thanks bob :)

Tbh my approach has been simply to get through the last few weeks 😬 rough time adjusting to meds. However the anxiety seems to have let me lose 2lb this week so yay 😂

I can only seem to think in the here and now so just trying to take each day as it comes and make better choices when I can.

Had a wake up call with a shielding letter today - it’s due to GD which I had in my last pregnancy (DD2 is 3y4m) and controlled it well with diet but I know it was weight that contributed to me having it in the first place.

MrsBobDylan · 24/02/2021 13:49

I had GD in my last pregnancy too and was shocked despite a fully catered for sherbet dib dab craving Shock

I am in a bad mood today because the oven needs an electrician and I have 2/5 sod all to feed everyone until pay day on Friday. Gah!

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 14:17

Oh no! That’s frustrating.

I’ve had some leftover packaged tapas stuff for lunch. It’s a bit of a write off day mood wise and I’m staying in and not getting anything done. Oops.

I really need to get on with my assignment especially as I have my vaccine on Saturday - bit worried about side effects.

AcornAutumn · 24/02/2021 15:58

Sing don't worry, I completely understand the medication thing, I am still battling it and it's a tremendous hurdle in weight loss.

I try to do a minute meditation sometimes between work tasks. A minute can be managed but you have to tell your brain STOP.

If I didn't have to care for mum I'd try to ditch my meds.

Shall we have a cat interlude?

I guess you'll love it or hate it.. or guess what will happen, I didn't! 😂

Forgot to add
I found an old book about habits.
I got it when I was working 60 hour weeks!

But for things like weight loss, it says distraction is very successful with many studies, so I'm pleased to know my thread idea was not so mad!

That said, with those working hours and a 60 - 90 minute commute each way, there was no way I could have taken up a hobby. I did have colleagues who went on 5 mile runs before work but I am not strong enough to work those hours and do anything else on top.

OP posts:
MrsBobDylan · 24/02/2021 17:19

Thank you @AcornAutumn for the cat interlude!

My oven is working again, but only while speaking to the electrician on the phone. I must have come across like a loon SadSmile

I have been looking at swimming cosies online. I need one with good infrastructure. As soon as the pools open I'm going to be there, can't wait to get out of the house and do something different.

AcornAutumn · 24/02/2021 23:30

MrsBob oh that's good. Could there be a loose connection?

OP posts:
MrsBobDylan · 25/02/2021 22:17

Could have been - I just hope it stays ok!

How are you guys doing? I have lost a pound this week which is good. It does feel bit slow though, but I went through a time of putting weight on, so I should be grateful

Are you feeling better after your jab now @AcornAutumn?

AcornAutumn · 25/02/2021 22:35

MrsBob great, well done. Maybe we will lose more as we go along.

I'm not 100%, did some work from home today. Around this evening I literally felt the pulse rate and BP drop. So hopefully tonight I'll get more sleep and maybe tomorrow I'll do a lunchtime walk or workout. Fever and aches and pains are gone. Thanks for asking.

Hello all! Glad you’re rallying, Acorn, and well done MrsBob. Had a very anxiety inducing week at work but my eyes are on the prize on WandaVision and maybe a takeaway tonight.

I haven’t been on the scales for a couple of days, but last time I was on there was no change.

I use Happy Scale to log weight, and I need to lose 0.8lb to hit my next target, so I’m hoping that will happen soon.

AcornAutumn · 26/02/2021 13:21

Gwen sorry to hear that.

You sound nicely on track re the weight though!

About to head out for a walk. Work - and my computer - have made for a very annoying morning.

Starting to wonder if irritability is a side effect of this vaccine...

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 27/02/2021 09:20

Morning! How are you, Acorn? Still irritable?

I’m up and at it, I’ve already top-coated a door and I’m about to head out to the garden to move a shrub. Bring it on!

AcornAutumn · 27/02/2021 10:15

Gwen impressive! Where is the shrub going? (That sounds funny).

I'm not sure....today is a care visit to mum so best "patient" face and all that.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 27/02/2021 13:14

It’s a Sambucus Nigra and I moved it from under the kitchen window to the far side of the garden to add a bit of height between a Rowan tree and a fatsia japonica. I’ve been on a steep learning curve as a gardener and I’m constantly moving plants around to put right mistakes. Blush

Hope your visit goes ok. Can you plan something nice for afterwards?

If you like documentaries, I recently watched the Jonestown one and found it interesting. Very sad though. The Nightstalker documentary series is also fascinating.

MrsBobDylan · 27/02/2021 18:33

Hi! I think I would enjoy the designing of the garden but I would need a gardener to do the actual hard work. In my fantasy life I would do a lovely watercolour of a garden and hand it over to the gardener with the instruction to 'make it happen please'.

You sound like you've been productive @GwendolineWindowlene. How is the decorating going? Our hallway was nearly done when I persuaded dh to paint one wall a very mustard yellow. Dh said it looks like an IRA dirty protest so now I need to buy another tin and try again. The theory was sound but the shade was so wrong.

@AcornAutumn hope your visit to your Mum went well? Do you get on with her? I loathe my Mum but still speak to her/see her out of misplaced duty.

I am getting my Covid jab on Monday and am really keen to get on with it. I food shop most days because we live opposite a large super market and it's more economical than a weekly online shop. I am worried about catching it and passing it to my two oldest kids who are clinically vulnerable but not eligible for the jab because they are under 16.

I am making a corgette and aubergine bake tonight for the first time.I am trying lots of new dishes at the moment especially vegetarian stuff.

AcornAutumn · 27/02/2021 18:52

Gwen you sound very strong with all that activity! Must be lovely to garden on a day like this. I have no functional strength at all, if you know what I mean.

MrsBob I both love and like mum, which I know is extremely lucky. I find the elderly parent thing incredibly hard though and really resent it - but I won't talk about that here. This thread is like my happy thread! Are you still going for a yellow on that wall? Does a pale lemon colour appeal?

There's Trainspotting and Shallow Grave on All4. Never seen Shallow Grave, anyone seen it? I found Trainspotting hilarious so maybe I will like SG?

I could also watch West Wing or comedy. Then I plan to do some yoga before bed and resume workouts tomorrow. I can't believe the blooming vaccine affected me so much.

But I promise to stop moaning about it now. I shall draw a line, see 😂

PS I would really enjoy a garden design. I too would draw it. I'd want a water feature and a wildflower meadow bit.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 27/02/2021 19:55

I’ve yet to find a yellow that is right. It’s always too acidic or lemony or diarrhoea-esque.

I am actually quite strong. I have no abs, but strong arms and legs.

I haven’t been able to make progress with the decorating this week, too busy with work. What I’ve done looks pretty good, I just need to actually finish it.Grin

AcornAutumn · 28/02/2021 21:08

I wouldn't go near yellow for a paint but it wouldn't work in a small flat.

If i had a big house with a morning room, I think a pale lemon would be nice.

have you seen there's a thread about losing a stone in......wait for it....12 days?

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 01/03/2021 08:07

I have the same worry with yellow paint! I really want a warm yellow in our living room but DH reckons it’ll be like sitting in an egg yolk 😂 I think the risk is that it’ll look worse.

GwendolineWindowlene · 01/03/2021 09:04

Egg yolk would be lovely, it's those migraine or vomit inducing yellows that give me the heebie jeebies.

SingToTheSky · 01/03/2021 09:26

Yes I personally quite like an egg yolk yellow! But I’d worry it would end up like various bodily fluids :o

Really have no idea what colour to go for. It feels like a big room compared to our old house but it really isn’t that big, and isn’t very well lit either. Floor is grey laminate (or will be once we’ve bloody painted!!!)

AcornAutumn · 01/03/2021 10:15

Weigh in this morning

Another 1.5lb gone

Good thing I decided not to make it a big focus!

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 01/03/2021 10:46

Yay Acorn, you're doing brilliantly. How much is that since the start of the year?

MrsBoB, were your dirty protest colours either F&B India Yellow or LG Yellow Pink? Both of those look fabulous online but horrific in my house.

What direction does your room face, Sing?
