A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Oh don’t feel bad acorn it’s easily done - advertising is getting more manipulative and clever by the day, and it’s increasingly difficult to tell the wheat from the chaff (no idea if that’s the right word 😂), you were just trying to do something for yourself and your future.

I’m happy with any kind of discussion - it’s nice to talk about random stuff but happy to talk food etc too.

Completely get the irritability thing. Food is so good at squashing uncomfortable feelings like that :(

Hoping to get my new adhd meds sometime next week so I’m desperately hoping that helps

It wasn't advertising I just found it through searching I should have looked into it properly but with a free trial, I stupidly thought, what's the harm.

I hope the new meds help.

Ah I see what you mean - tbh I was including website fronts etc in that!

I found something that looked absolutely brilliant for doing an online degree and it looked SO convincing, it took a bit of digging to see other views on it. The internet is a minefield.

I feel a bit better after dinner although grabbed too much leftovers! It’s been a really overwhelming day.

AcornAutumn · 30/01/2021 10:33

Hopefully today will be better for everyone. It's raining but I'm planning a quiet day. I am still decluttering.

Regretfully I have decided I have to remove as much as I can. Some of it will go to mum's as I can carry something on each trip. I think in a small space, less clutter is incredibly important.

Can you do anything cunning to improve the space, Acorn? A high shelf above door height for books? A bed with shelving or storage underneath?
I love those small space websites, everywhere always looks really cosy.

I am very short so I have no use for the high shelves I already have! They are part of a kitchen cupboard so I keep things like light bulbs and batteries up there.

Storage bed already.

I have looked at those websites for ideas and just get scared of being stuck in a small space forever!

I did a new exercise routine yesterday and my glutes are starting to know about it!

Sing something occurred to me after your comment on medication

I'm on meds for A&D, which are a factor in themselves for weight gain.

I realised today that what I call "bottomless pit" days, i.e. days when I can't stop eating, I'm probably overstimulated.

I need to find a way of being better balanced. I'm avoiding setting routines, partly because I hate them and there are other reasons, but I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and do that.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 30/01/2021 18:26

It’s so hard isn’t it. I am constantly torn between wanting and needing routines and not being able to cope with them.

ADs have such a terrible effect on weight. Looking back I can see how much I put on when I took amitriptyline.

It is so interesting to hear this being said! Everyone I have ever known seems to want routine. That makes me feel less alone, thank you.
OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 30/01/2021 20:23

I’m desperate for a break in routine. Every day it’s a walk, home schooling and work, then dinner and TV. I just want to go somewhere.

AcornAutumn · 30/01/2021 20:55

Gwen
Yes, I can understand that.

Btw did you buy a rug in the end?

I was thinking of how some people have even a vague idea about when they will eat meals. I don't. I wonder that will make things easier. Also I think meds complicate matters in that they bugger up hunger signals so sticking to times, even if not rigidly, might help there.

I like to be much more "go with the flow" on mealtimes but I can't keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 30/01/2021 21:20

Are you me 😂

It’s like I have two sides. I need and crave security, for this reason when people say I should chase a career I can do from home I’m like NOOOOO I want more than anything the safety of somebody telling ME what to do. And telling me I’m doing a good job, frankly. I have done tutoring on and off for years which I’m good at but I crave employment in the future.

And then the other side feels so hemmed in, is incapable of learning to do the same thing every day, has zero discipline and lives in chaos.

Unfortunately for me this is the result of being both autistic and ADHD. I hate change, but I can’t handle boredom. 😅

SingToTheSky · 30/01/2021 21:32

And yes, the eating at the same time thing. I’m getting slightly better at the morning routine now - in the week anyway, I don’t eat until I get home from dropping off the little one at nursery. Since we’ve had no clubs to run around to in the evenings, DH usually does dinner for around 6, but I just can’t seem to manage it when it’s my turn.

AcornAutumn · 30/01/2021 21:34

We definitely have similarities!

I have never liked routine but I am very organised within my work, if that makes sense.

I have been losing enthusiasm for that for years though. What puts me off a lot now is the increasing involvement of tech, and I also am irritated by how much tech creeps into daily life e.g. you get a better service from banks if you bank online.

I definitely have the organisation gene, but for some reason, applying to it to personal daily routines annoys me. I suppose I associate discipline with work and then I don't want to stretch it into personal stuff.

I also prefer to workout at the end of the day at some point - last night I was lifting weights at midnight.

Anyway, if I at least give myself a time frame for meals, that would be a good start probably. I'm on the dot punctual for meeting people.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 31/01/2021 16:02

I think I would eat less if ignored routine. I use food to give me ‘staging posts’ throughout the day. Particularly at the moment when there’s not much to look forward to and I’m feeling uninspired by my job.

AcornAutumn · 31/01/2021 19:22

Maybe a totally unscientific experiment is in order....Gwen could try abandoning meal routine and I could designate meal times!

Today has been a good day so far, mostly because I had a good friend on the phone for about 3 hours which made for a nice day. It's again that whole thing of "if I am interested in what I am doing, I don't overeat".

The mad clearing up is starting to progress.

Totally this. I can ignore food happily if I’m engaged with piano or studying

It's February and Imbolc tomorrow. A good time to remind ourselves that we wanted this thread to be about stuff we find really engaging and interesting, and that we'd lose weight too!

So what are our doings? Interestingly, my piano app has updated to massively expand the practice sessions so I probably wasn't the only one to get to the Can Can and say "wtf, I can barely do Jingle Bells". 😂

What have we been studying and watching and reading? I watched It's A Sin. Not an easy watch but very good quality drama.

I'm re-reading short stories by Philippa Gregory and dipping into a book about Stoicism.

Me too, if I’m gardening I don’t graze at all. I think my job is bad for me, I’m starting to really hate sitting on my arse looking at a computer.
AcornAutumn · 31/01/2021 20:31

Gwen, that is the worst thing about working life. I wish I could do something that didn't involve computers.

Morning all
What did I miss, spam?

I weigh the same today but that's okay. Onwards and downwards.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 01/02/2021 10:18

Yep, spam. Not the tinned kind.

Morning all. No weigh in here today. Going to get a walk in later.

SingToTheSky · 01/02/2021 10:24

I’m on a few different weight loss/fitness type threads and the same spam was on more than one 😂 someone was quicker than me with the report button. Just some link to a video I think.

I have had absolutely no willpower the last week or so, it’s been too difficult with so much uncertainty. DH just had a negative covid result though and so we can try and get back to whatever passes for normal tomorrow!
