A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Sing
I hope you feel better

There's a real sense of progress when you beat a trigger or danger time!

Gwen you're so right, no diet talk! I like how this went, I thought no one would join me!

Bad news - today's work has been cut to just 3 hours (paid by the hour).

Good news - sun has come out. Not what was forecast, I might go for a walk after all...

Get out there Acorn! Have a potter outside and turn your mind off.

Well done Sing on avoiding the dangerzone of after dinner eating. I don't really struggle with that, my twin zones of porky peril are mid morning and mid afternoon.

Cocolapew · 19/01/2021 12:36

Soaked to the arse after my walk 🦆

CatRamsey · 19/01/2021 19:24

It's been a very grim, grey and rainy day where I am so haven't ventured out! I didn't eat well at all last week 🙈. However I somehow lost 2.5lbs. I'm chuffed and just need to keep motivated to carry on. I did walk 5k on Saturday. Yesterday I put together a new bookcase in my study. It looks really nice and I'm starting to fill it now. I'm tempted to do the prompts in a jar thing, I really like the sound of it 😊

AcornAutumn · 19/01/2021 22:12

Coco, what a pain. I didn't go for a walk in the end as it looked like it would turn very quickly and it did!

Cat, that's great, well done. How lovely to have a nice new bookcase too.

I'm liking the jar thing as well, but I would use it for things like "do 25 squats"! I did some extra abs in my workout today, ugh.

I just watched the film Colette. I thought it was really good, just a bit surprised it didn't focus more on her later life.

I have also done some keyboard practice. So a good day all round.

Glad you had a good day Acorn.
Big day out for me tomorrow, Specsavers in the afternoon, I'm weirdly excited Hmm

GwendolineWindowlene · 20/01/2021 09:08

I can’t get my head round the eating at all, but am doing something physical every day. I need to lose a lot, but seem to have the willpower of a wet lettuce.

I did some piano playing last night, just suddenly felt the urge. It was very restful.

InJest · 20/01/2021 09:16

Morning all.

Ha @Cocolapew, a bit of normality is excting.
@CatRamsey I am loving the jar. Its given me back some variety.

Today I lost 2.2lbs. I'm very happy.

And ive been asked out on a date. Wont get to go until lockdown is over, and even then it might only be a socially distanced walk around a park. But its going to help to keep me on track. I dont fit into my clothes properly and will need clothes when the time comes.

GwendolineWindowlene · 20/01/2021 10:10

Congrats on your date, InJest that's very exciting! And well done for your weight loss. All excellent news.

AcornAutumn · 20/01/2021 10:38

Jest l'm not fitting into my clothes either! That's great, well done.

Gwen how many years before I can play as something restful, I wonder?

Today is very dark grey and my work is mostly boring spreadsheets. Going to need willpower.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 20/01/2021 11:24

Well, I started at 3 and I’m now 50! Sorry about that! Grin

That said, I had about 25 years when I didn’t play at all.

AcornAutumn · 20/01/2021 21:56

There is no way I could have learned piano as a child. I'm happy learning something now but I have no idea how far I can get with an app and having to play with headphones in. I guess we will find out!

I've been really surprised at how loud the lowest volume is on the keyboard, though I can muffle it by covering the speakers. Don't want to drive the neighbours up the wall.

Today has not been a great day but I wasn't at all inclined to cure spreadsheet boredom with food, which is good.

I have been having a massive clear out since we moved nearly two years ago. I had always filled book shelves, crammed cupboards and shopped like my life depended on it.

I am still a bit shit on controlling shopping impulsivity but much better at getting rid. I am a naturally untidy person so the less I own, the easy it is to keep in some sort of shambolic order Smile

DH has offered to take a day off work on Friday so he can do homeschooling duties. I have some commissions I really need to finish off so I can be paid and escape the kids.

Today's exercise was carrying a cabinet up two flights of stairs and two sofa up/down stairs. Better than nowt!

AcornAutumn · 21/01/2021 00:08

MrsBob that sounds like a lot of exercise!

I have done the opposite - got rid of stuff to make the flat feel less cluttered and then really regretted it. Going to be extremely careful about that in future.

I really need to be tidy. My parents were/are so tidy. If I didn't look like both of them, I'd swear I wasn't their child. I don't have the tidy, disciplined and hard working genes! 😂

OP posts:
InJest · 21/01/2021 09:09

Neither of my parents can sit still for a minute, always doing something. Me, I can sit doing nothing for hours on end and it wont occur to me to do anything. Wish I'd inherited that trait. I hate my laziness.

'Chore' and 'sing' for me today. The tiles in the bathroom need a proper clean, and i've found a 'finding your voice' video on you tube to try.

Saturday is the day I start exercising! I have put things in a jar and plan to do 1 a day. Its not ideal, but might get me over my reluctance. I'd love to run, but my knees are not keen.

AcornAutumn · 21/01/2021 11:34

Jest sounds good

I think of myself as lazy but actually in my parents house I move around a lot. A tiny flat is not conducive to that. I think it probably helps activity levels to, for example, go to the kitchen for a glass of water, whereas here, that's about 3 steps.

Hope the sun lasts till my lunchbreak so I can have a walk.

OP posts:
AcornAutumn · 21/01/2021 21:39

No one about...

I shall report to myself 😂

Had a good walk. Bought a plant, I wonder how long it will live?! My history is not good.

Didn't do a workout as I can still feel Tuesday's workout in my core and shoulders....well I could have done something but I got distracted by things online Blush

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 22/01/2021 01:51

Could’ve sworn I replied to this earlier 😂 I have nothing to report really, had a lazy day as it was DH’s birthday. Can’t sleep and played too much Mario 😳 must do better tomorrow!

InJest · 22/01/2021 10:15

Morning all. I feel quite busy at the moment, which is a nice change from being welded to the sofa.

Food shopping day! I have a list, will eat before I go, and hopefully resist all temptation. My appetitie is raging still. I thought your stomach was supposed to shrink after a while Hmm.

Today I got 'chore' and 'dance'. I think I'm going to descale the kettle, clean the washing machine drawer/filter, and empty the toaster crumb tray thingy, because I dont do that often enough. I know, I sound fun Grin. For dance, i'm just going to chuck something on spottify, dim the lights and not care that I have no rhymn and look ridiculous, because no one will see me. And its Fridddaaayyyyy

Cocolapew · 22/01/2021 10:28

Morning all, big trip to Specsavers was tiring 😅, I need new glasses so back over on Tuesday. I'm hoping they stop my headaches but I'm beginning think I'm clenching my jaw in my sleep because I'm waking up with them.
Didn't realise Homebase was allowed to remain open so went yesterday for paint. I want to do my living room in Arsenic by F&B, but it's too expensive. I'm trying to colour match a Dulux one.
No plans today, its lovely and sunny but frosty so will go for a walk. I've been trying to clear out and sort parts of the house out so might do that later.

Cocolapew · 22/01/2021 10:28

Not a very good photo but what do you think is the closest?

A weight loss thread with no boring diet info
GwendolineWindowlene · 22/01/2021 10:31

Wow, InJest, you know how to have a good time. Grin Any news on the date, by the way?

I have set myself a challenge, which is to weigh less on Monday morning than I do today. Even if it’s by a tiny bit. I’ve been struggling to get into the zone regarding food, grr.

Sunny day here today, so a walk is in the cards.

GwendolineWindowlene · 22/01/2021 10:32

Coco, if you are anywhere near a Johnstone’s trade centre they do brilliant colour matching, they have all the F&B codes in their machines. They are open at the moment.

InJest · 22/01/2021 10:33

@Cocolapew Lovely colour! I think maybe 4? Glad your trip out into the world was good and that glasses sort the headaches.

@AcornAutumn I'm also a plant killer. But I have an umbrella plant and a zz plant that have unexpectedly lived for over a year now. I'm delighted.

InJest · 22/01/2021 10:42

Hi Gwen. He's keen to date over zoom for now, but i'm not sure.

I definately dont look my best right now. And I dont have much to talk about either as life is perpetually dull.

What would you do? Am I being silly?
