A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Well done. It’s hard not to just pop out, isn’t it? I’ve always admired those people who say “if it’s not in the house I don’t eat it”. I would just get in the car and drive to the shop! Grin
Enjoy your amaretto.

Squidgywoo · 13/01/2021 23:27

I had an incident with some custard creams at lunchtime which was not good! I feel like I’ve had quite a productive day on the whole though - 2 short yoga sessions, one first thing and one just now, lots of online teaching and some really great work from my class, a power walk through the mud with the dog and a really useful professional development course. Thank goodness eldest ds cooked dinner for us all!

This evening I’ve continued reading Welcome To Nowhere which I’ll be reading to my class next term.

Well done for all the positive things going on everyone Smile I bloody love this thread!

AcornAutumn · 13/01/2021 23:47

Gwen it's funny isn't - I tend to imagine if I had to get in the car, I'd have enough time to stop and think, but that's because I don't have one, so it sounds like a hassle. To regular drivers it seems completely natural and easy I guess.

The shop is so close I could literally go there, buy something and be back in 5 mins.

Squidgy so glad you're finding it helpful. After falling asleep after work, I spent most of the evening trying to sort stuff on my computer so it runs better, I really want to avoid getting a new one. So I have no interesting distractions to report! Must do some keyboard practice, I'm capable of forgetting everything in 4 days!

PS "An Incident with Some Custard Creams" sounds like an Agatha Raisin mystery.

😀 well done on resisting the shop. My car needs something doing to it today, so I've just handed the keys over and she's gone to get my curtesy car. She said I could wait inside rather than out in the rain but there are no chairs to sit on at all. At least if you come and see me at the hospital, I let you sit down!

Mad few days at work so i've done little but work and sleep, but hopeful today I might actually have an evening.

Singing the other day.... gosh, I just felt so ashamed. Wrong music, trying to sing without alerting anyone, and generally not liking the sound of my own voice. But I do love it when I’m sure I can’t be heard. Singing lessons are a great idea Acorn, thanks.

@SingToTheSky. That psychology course looks good. Would you recommend it? I want to learn something.

Today I got:
Puzzle. Any sort of brain game will do. I’ll find a crossword I think.

Write. I don’t know why I get this one so often, its exactly the same as all the other papers. Assuming it’s a sign that improvement can only happen with practice. Todays prompt is just the title 'A humble brag goes wrong'.

Have a lovely day everyone.

SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 10:16

InJest the one I’m doing is one of the “introduction to psychology” courses by Monash university (Australian I believe). There are various ones focusing on different branches. I do like futurelearn as it’s free (unless you go for the final quiz/certificate etc but that’s expensive), I definitely prefer learning when there is feedback from a tutor (my counselling skills and children’s mental health courses are like that, they were free with my local adult education place) but I’m trying to look on FL as just “access to interesting information” if that makes sense? Reading a bit, some short videos etc. I’m also going to do the Italian one with my DS as he wants to learn.

I love puzzles. Stuck on a logic puzzle ATM.

I’ve taken my 3yo to nursery every day this week. I don’t eat breakfast until I’m back. Still haven’t eaten as I procrastinated about getting into the shower after being rained on 😳

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 10:18

Morning all

Rain and more rain.

I woke up ravenous again...annoying. I guess my body will adjust!

Morning all, lashing here as well. Did any have snow lately? It's a rare occurrence here, we just get rained on continuously.
Trying to motivate myself to walk to the shop, Ill have to go because I'm out of toilet roll but the temptation to drive there is strong.
DH was at the dr so waiting for him to come back then will maybe go after he's gone to work.

SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 10:31

I’ve never read any but I agree! They were very popular when I worked at the library. What are they like? I might try one, if anyone can recommend a particularly good one. Since I’m getting more into reading I’m trying to explore new (to me) genres.
SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 10:33

Oh also re the Diet Coke etc I find it useful when I’m reeeeally craving a fizzy drink to get one of those tiny cans (150ml) as it hits the spot but I’m drinking much less! I still have to avoid buying them most of the time though as if they’re in the house I’ll just drink one whether I really want it or not. Like now. Which is what reminded me. 😳 In my defence I’m verrrry sleepy. 😳

Cocolapew · 14/01/2021 11:57

I bought fizzy water and added juice to it, I hate fizzy water usually but it was nice. Not as nice as Diet Coke obviously, but it hit the spot Grin

SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 12:04

That’s great coco! I don’t like fizzy water either. It tastes weird on its own, to me.

Well my meal plan has fallen apart on day 2 😂 I was far too tired to sort out the soup in the slow cooker when I got in (cold/wet weather = painful hands = struggling to peel, chop etc) but anyway DH has to go and collect our food parcel from the school now so we will see what’s in there for today, and then adjust the plan accordingly.

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 12:13

I like fizzy water
I sometimes drink it to deal with false hunger if that makes sense.

Pneumatic drill outside, meh.

CatRamsey · 14/01/2021 13:06

Hi everyone, popping back in 👋. I'm baffled by the fizzy pop addicts, I had a friend who survived on Pepsi Max! I'm not really a fan of fizzy drinks...I'll have one with a meal but even then usually leave some! I do drink loads of black coffee though and am very partial to a cappuccino, mocha or hot chocolate (I have a coffee machine!!!)

I feel a bit...meh. I'm sticking to my meal plan which is good. I've done more walking than usual. But I just feel a bit down. I really hate myself. It makes me have no motivation to do anything. I'm currently on sick leave from work due to my mental health so I have all the time in the world to do stuff. But I just don't. I stay up late on my computer until 2am and then don't get up until 11am Star. I do set an alarm for 9 but I go back to sleep!

Trying to push myself to go for a walk around the block.

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 13:26

Cat "I feel a bit...meh. I'm sticking to my meal plan which is good. I've done more walking than usual"

That's all terrific though, don't forget that. Flowers

Cocolapew · 14/01/2021 13:52

Cat when I'm not working the next day I have got into the habit of staying up until about 1 or 2 reading. I wake up much later and I used to feel guilty about it. Dh said to me he doesn't give it a second thought sleeping in on his days off do why did I? He asked what was so important I had to do it at 9 compared to 10 or 11. I couldn't think of an answer so I don't beat myself up now, if I want to lie in I do and don't feel guilty, I'm not neglecting anyone or anything by doing it.
Also it has the added bonus of I don't bother with breakfast Grin

How's everyone's day been?

Mine has been marked by a stressful admin thing in relation to my late father. It kind of took over the day Sad

OP posts:
InJest · 15/01/2021 09:16

@AcornAutumn Sorry to hear you had a bit of a day yesterday, and sorry about your father. Hope you got it all sorted and it doesnt spill into today too. Are you feeling ok today?

Yesterday was busy with work for me again. Flopped on the sofa zombie like at the end of the day and had an incident with popcorn.

@SingToTheSky Thank you, that sounds like a good shout, i'm very tempted. Glad I can start for free and see how I get on. I'm great at starting stuff, and rubbish at following through or finishing.

Today I got:
Play. I'm learning how to play chess, so i'll do some of that.
Chore. Been meaning to do the windows.

Have great days everyone.

SingToTheSky · 15/01/2021 10:24

Acorn sorry you had a tough day with the admin 💐

InJest I know what you mean about starting stuff but not finishing! I’m like that with housework/routine type stuff, I find it so hard to keep on track.

Feeling pretty unmotivated today but I’m so glad I’ve managed five days straight of doing the morning nursery run. Normally DH does most.

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 11:22

Thank you

Sadly it is going to hang around for at least a week.

I feel quite low but that's to be expected I guess.

I might go for a walk at lunchtime despite the cold.

OP posts:
GwendolineWindowlene · 15/01/2021 11:24

Hello everyone. I’m feeling crap with a cold and spluttery cough so the last couple of days have been weight loss wipeout. I’ll get back onto it when I feel better.

AcornAutumn · 15/01/2021 12:18

Gwen I hope you feel better asap! Flowers

OP posts:
InJest · 16/01/2021 12:36

@AcornAutumn Did your walk help?
@GwendolineWindowlene Are you feeling any better?

Squidgywoo · 16/01/2021 12:36

@AcornAutumn so sorry to hear you’re having a tough time Flowers

I’m just so tired this week and have struggled to get going each day. I have just slept for about 12 hours which is ok today as I can but I feel like I need to do that every single day. That’s obviously not possible due to work so I’ve just been clawing my way through the end of the week! I’m eating well (mostly!) and exercising too but maybe not drinking enough water - could that be having such an extreme effect do you think?
