Dancing through December

Well thought I would start the last thread of the year. Weighed in at 9st2.25 this month, my aim is to end December at a similar weight. I'm not realistically expecting to lose.

Very happy about the vaccine and waiting to hear about schools.

I'm starting to rein in my excesses and actually feeling better for it. I have noticed that I sleep better when I'm not snacking so much. I don't know whether it's the evening snacking or the sugar content of my diet overall, but when I've not been eating loads of sweet things and not snacking in the evening I can sometimes sleep all night without having to get up to wee! It doesn't seem to depend on how much water I drink in the evening.

Monochrome4 · 30/12/2020 19:37

Ok so I need to come up with a plan not to put on weight for an extra two weeks while looking after the kids all the time AND staying sane.

IDontMindMarmite · 30/12/2020 21:01

Ok Monochrome, what's your weakness/downfall?

drspouse · 30/12/2020 21:12

Quick sign in before the month/year changes.
Had a good few days logging on MFP though too much fat/not enough protein.
Current difficulty is I've hurt my knee, have a long standing hip injury and they've just closed the swimming pools.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/12/2020 21:52

Monochrome I'd be instituting an outdoor time each day plus are you able to get out solo later in the day? That would help maybe. Is it too early to start logging our days again?! I'm just trying to keep an eye on myself really.
B: apple, mixed bugs, Greek yoghurt and cappuccinos (2)
L: roast veg with chickpeas and feta
D:mac and cheese with broccoli and peas
S: riesen 5
2L water
20k steps. Yippee on that score. I'll weigh Fri AM or maybe tomorrow tho I had a lot of pasta.

Monochrome4 · 31/12/2020 03:52

HeyGirlHeyBoy What are mixed bugs?

I've started logging again. Currently my downfall is sweet things in the cupboard, particularly After Eights, but thankfully I've finished those now. My other downfall is portion sizes, especially if I don't have a chance to calculate the calories in dinner. And dinner is usually whatever I can cook that everyone else will eat, so making it low-calorie ends up way down the list of priorities.

We have been going out each day, but it's not really much exercise when I have the kids. Yesterday I only managed to get to 8000 steps. That included doing an online karate class with them and a walk to the playground about 1km away (they cycled) and over an hour in the playground during which I tried to walk around and be generally energetic while I was watching them.

I really need to just stick to my calorie goals when I'm not getting that much exercise, but I think the feeling of being trapped with them makes me a bit stressed and liable to comfort eat. The lack of exercise also makes me feel sluggish and want to reach in the cupboard. It's also harder to log calories when I'm trying not to be completely glued to my phone in front of them, especially at the table.

Writing all this down makes it sound like a load of pathetic excuses!

Octopus37 · 31/12/2020 08:07

Last weigh in of the year 9st4.25, I have eaten quite a bit, but lots of steps (over 13,000) and have done well with the water. Think my food has been a bit salt heavy, have been eating chocolates but only a couple at a time, have a ridiculous amount indoors still. Have been on a light but unexpected period since Christmas Eve, would get it checked out normally but cant cause of covid obviously. Still planning on a Chinese tonight, but will not weigh in the morning. Heygirl, sounds as if you are doing really well. Monochrome, I feel your pain re the kids, I know I would have struggled a lot if all this had happened when the my kids were younger. Well done on doing the online Karate class, can you make something like that part of your routine. Hope everyone is able to enjoy seeing the back of 2020 as best they can.

Not at all monochrome, can understand that. Definitely harder when out of routine.

Mixed bugs are my latest protein addition, some nice crunchy insects, dead of course, to add to yoghurt and salads...

Grin No it was just a typo for nuts Grin Have a good day all, will log later.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 08:11

My two quite like Tracy Anderson classes monochrome and she will get you moving! She's Gwyneth and Madokna's pal.

IDontMindMarmite · 31/12/2020 08:13

It doesn't sound like pathetic excuses at all! I live and die by meal planning calorie controlled meals but when you've got fussy little people playing interference it sounds like that really puts a spanner in the works.

I also love sweet things and having a low cal option is essential for me, it doesn't sound like after eights are too bad individually at 35 cals apiece. My version is mini Reese's which are 16 cals each but I always include a decent portion of dessert in my plan.

So we've got a fancy restaurant meal delivery for tonight and I think that's the last thing that really screws up my calorie counting so I'm hoping to be fully back on the wagon tomorrow. I did lots of exercise yesterday but ate a lot as well.

IDontMindMarmite · 31/12/2020 08:15

I actually thought you were serious about bugs for a minute there @HeyGirlHeyBoy Grin.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 08:16

Ooh lovely, what did you order? Often fancy restaurants equal delicious food but just right portions, I wouldn't be feeling any bit of guilt about that treat, enjoy.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 08:17

Idontmindmarmite Grin I was hysterical when I read it this aim, took me a few minutes to remember what I'd had!

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 08:17

This AM Hmm

Monochrome4 · 31/12/2020 08:43

I have eaten grasshoppers in Mexico. They were deep fried with garlic and chilli and were nice and crunchy. True!

I'll check out Tracy Anderson, thanks.

After Eights are 37 calories each, but they are so moreish that I keep reaching into the box throughout the day and it adds up. I've found the best way with me with chocolate is to just have some every few days and not keep any in the house. I used to get big bars of Green & Black's on the reasoning that I'll just have a small amount of good quality stuff, but if it's there I just scoff the lot.

FestiveFannyGallops · 31/12/2020 08:53

61.3kg this morning. Glad you haven't been eating mixed bugs🤢

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 08:57

Yes I did that with a dark Green&Blacks but yes it was gone in minutes... Decided not to bother with the mixed bugs this morning. A nice cappuccino and apple/pear and yoghurt.

FestiveFannyGallops · 31/12/2020 09:21

We have loads of chocolate left so I think I'll put some away for Easter. I'm back to being shielded and it looks like there'll be no routine for January. Ive says to dc that we will have a daily walk and I'll look at the map to see where we can go off the beaten track. I miss being able to get the train into the Peak District.

IDontMindMarmite · 31/12/2020 09:27

I thought we were going full Marjorie Dawes and was about to suggest Dust as a low fat option...Grin

It's a 3 course set menu with lobster bisque, terrine, sirloin steak with fondant potatoes and other veg and a chocolate cherry fondant dessert.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 31/12/2020 09:46

Yummmm!

drspouse · 31/12/2020 09:46

I've eaten flying ants, fried in groundnut oil they just tasted like peanuts.
I'm going to very gradually eat up the Christmas food but give the DCs lots as treats I think. There's a packet of Lidl spice biscuits in the cupboard and the DCs and DH will eat them once they are opened, I won't get a look in!

TheHoneyBadger · 31/12/2020 17:30

Hi all.

We're having an Indian takeaway tonight and lunch with bubble tomorrow and then that SHOULD be the end of the excess and maybe I can get my head back in the game.

I'm flirting with the idea of giving up, or at least massively cutting back, on alcohol after tomorrow for January. Probably a bit concerning that the idea quite scares me Hmm

Still way off the wagon but checking in to say hi and remind myself there is an end in sight and I will get back on it.

IDontMindMarmite · 31/12/2020 17:43

I'm exactly with you honeybadger. We can do this.

FestiveFannyGallops · 31/12/2020 17:51

Ds is a good lad and says he wanted soup and dumplings for dinner so I've used up the rest of the soup I made and feel good we've got some veg down us. We walked up to my
Mums and back to fix her hoover and I've now hit all my targets except my calorie restriction. Ah well.
Mmmm poppadoms and mango chutney 🥰

drspouse · 31/12/2020 18:09

Fairly simple day though we're having fizzy with some sweet stuff I think later, I'm still not able to walk far (made it into town but had to get the bus back) but we'll get there gradually.
A FB friend has a lovely looking bullet journal spread for weight tracking, exercise etc and I think I might try and find my old one.
