Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Usual apple, yoghurt and granola breakfast.
Melon for snack
Gnocchi with tomato and chilli sauce and lots of cheese for lunch.
Debating takeaway for tea and DP and I are both full of cold and feeling a bit wretched and not like cooking

Looks good @riotlady! hope you feel better soon!! And hope you got your takeaway! We had decided on a takeaway from our local chinese and when I finished work at 7 I had expected DP to have ordered it, but then turned out it was closed 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ So i ended up making sweet potato veggie burgers, they weren’t the quickest to make but at least we have some leftover for tomorrow dinner!

Breakfast- banana, strawberry, oat and peanut butter smoothie (forgot to add protein powder!)
Snack- protein mint mocha
Lunch- same as yesterday, with left over salad from last night (I mixed in 15g mango chutney into the salad and it was a really nice dressing for it!)
Snack- cinnamon syrup cappuccino
Dinner- sweet pot burger with sweet pot wedges done in air fryer

Eaten about 2030 cals and burnt about 2400. Weighed 8st 12.6 today

Sorry forgot photos
(added extra biscuits on my smoothie and some squirty cream halfway through eating 😂)

Love polenta fries- this huge pile was only 150cals, I get a ready made block of polenta and cut into fries then air fry them (used to fry with frylight in pan which also works)

@Friedbanana how do you manage to burn so many calories?!
Very envious - I'm 5ft 10 and on 1200-1500 cals a day

Friedbanana · 12/01/2021 21:45

Oh that’s not much! do you have a fitbit which tells you? I think it’s just steps, like most days I go over 20000 steps, sometimes closer to 30000, taking the dog out for 1.5-2 hours most days and housework etc.! Burning less now on average during lockdown as not going to work/doing other errands! Sometimes I wonder if fitbit is accurate but there have been some days where I have done much fewer steps and the calories burnt is much lower so yes, i guess just steps!

Ahhh makes sense. I'm pretty much housebound at the minute so hopefully when I'm mouthguard and about again it will help
And I'm double your weight

Friedbanana · 12/01/2021 21:59

Also you’re a lot taller than me! I’m 5ft 5! Also I did used to be on much lower cals may- july, (1200-1600, should never have been that low though, if i had days eating 2000 cals i would be disgusted with myself and water weight would obv go right up the next day, my lowest weight went down to 8st8.8) and I think if I went straight from that restriction to eating 2000+ cals that, I might have seen the weight go on a lot? In fact i did have a proper diet break like August- October (and put on some weight and got my period back as my body clearly wasn’t getting the right nutrients) , then when i started focusing on being in a deficit again even on 2000+ cals, my weight started decreasing again! I’m fully prepared for my weight to plateau at some point but that’s fine, I think at that point i’ll just accept that’s the right weight for me, even if it’s not what i have in my head! Sorry for complete ramble i’m just sharing in case any of this is relevant, because if someone told me 5 months ago i could eat what i do currently eat without putting on loads of weight I would be v surprised! I think your body maybe gets used to a low amount of cals then if you have a little break it might readjust and then you can increase your cals a bit? Sorry if i’m talking absolute crap haha just my experience!

B: 2 egg omlette with cheese and ham.
L: vegetarian sausage wrap
D: prawn masaman curry with cauliflower rice
Snacks: lychees, grapes and a pack of Wotsits.
I couldn't believe how many calories were saved using cauliflower rice rather than basmati!

pontiouspilates · 13/01/2021 07:48

friedbanana I really want to try polenta fries now! I'm 5.5 and almost 12 stone. I'm pretty active, walk everyday, run 2-3 times a week and have started doing some weight training, but I'm finding it so hard to lose weight. Will try again today to add photos to my post!

raspberrypickle · 13/01/2021 11:21

Yesterday's food-
Breakfast: Same smoothie as day before but with banana and blueberries instead of strawberries + skinny cappuccino sachet with almond milk and options white hot chocolate
Lunch: Leftover vegetable chow mien with some added veg
Dinner: lamb steak with a few chips and vegetables
Snacks: garlic crackers, lentil curls, 2 squares of Lindt salted caramel dark chocolate, a Freddo (I let myself get too hungry before dinner!), an apple and an almond milk/ skimmed milk drink before bed. Did Chloe Ting full body YouTube workout with my 3 yr old- it sounds intense but we did the no noise one so there's no jumping or running, lasts 15 minutes but it's manageable if you're just starting to get fit like me! We also went for a walk so 1706 burnt and 1554 consumed, a small deficit again 🙂

My bloomin phone is still not letting me upload pics - Grrr!
B: fat free greek yoghurt with banana, raspberries and a spoonful of biscoff spread.
L: hard boiled egg, ham, cottage cheese, 2 Moroccan spiced falafel.
D: lentil cottage pie with tender stem broccolli.
Snacks: cherries a creme egg and gallons of tea!
Riot your tuna couscous looked lush!

raspberrypickle · 13/01/2021 22:04

Today's food:
First Breakfast: Banana
Second breakfast/Brunch/Lunch 😋: Bacon and cherry tomato wrap, I wanted to add a hash brown but we didn't have any so I added two onion rings from the freezer!
Dinner: king prawn and vegetable korma with a small portion of rice, three popadoms and a teaspoon of mango chutney
Dessert: Greek yoghurt with berries, nuts, dark chocolate chips and some caramel drizzle which I bought today, it's nice, not too high in calories and very sweet so you only need a small amount.
Snacks: lentil curls; two squares of Lindt salted caramel dark chocolate
I'll probably have a hot drink before bed which will probably add around 50 calories.
Total calories: approx 1465
I completed Wk 6 run 2 of the couch to 5k today and added a short walk on at the end. I'm not sure if the Fitbit app is accurately calculating the calories I'm burning so I think I'm going to try and focus on the calories I'm eating and just see the exercise as a bonus to weight loss (and good for mental health obviously 🙂)

so nice to see everyone’s food, all sounds and looks yummy!! and workouts and runs are so good! i wish i could report some good exercise but I’ve done nothing today, felt so tired and dog didn’t even want a walk 😅 might do quick yoga before bed

Here were my meals for today:
Breakfast- banana cinnamon smoothie with cinnamon palmier and biscuits
2 x cappuccinos
Snacks- 2 cinnamon palmiers and a reese cup
Lunch- roast veg with tuna steak and chapatti
Dinner- leftover veggie burger, bun, cheese, rice and salad (no photo)

but then like an hour ago i had a major snack binge :( no idea on calories, maybe like 1000? but really no idea, could be less but also could be more! don’t feel terrible and sick, just a bit uncomfortable, so at least i stopped before i felt really awful! I just asked myself why i was doing it, decided i didn’t want anything else and it wasn’t making me happy/taking away my stress and then i decided i was full, and left the kitchen.. think i’ll be in a surplus of like 1000, but nevermind! Weighed 8st 13.2 this morning, that’ll prob go up tomorrow but it’s ok! all it’s done is cancel out some deficits so not going to get upset about it :) will be back in a deficit tomorrow hopefully :) writing down has made me feel a bit better too :)

@Friedbanana

caramel drizzle sounds nice *@raspberrypickle*, where was it from?
I bought it from Morrison's, it's so rich, you'd expect it to be higher in calories!
riotlady · 14/01/2021 10:27

Even though you had some extra calories I think you get major mental points for stopping yourself during a binge @Friedbanana. I used to really struggle with binging myself (ironically back when I was thin... I have a much healthier relationship with food now I’m fat!!) and I know how hard that is!

Sillybilly35 · 14/01/2021 13:28

So thought I'd join in after stalking your thread.
I am morbidly obese. Always struggled with my weight and having counseling starting soon. I am ashamed of my weight so much but I need to be honest so this is me:

5'10
Starting weight 24st 2lb
Current weight 23st 12lb
Size 24uk

Calorie allowance 1920 per day set to lose 2lb a week. Tracking my food on my fitness pal.

Lost 4lb in my first week. Weigh in on a Monday morning. I try and do 30 minutes on my cross trainer everyday which burns about 300 cals. I don't eat breakfast because it makes me want to have more food. So I have dinner and tea and if my calories allow it I'll have a evening snack and this suits me just fine. Trying to drink more water too.
In my adult years I've got down to 16st and my heaviest is what I started at on the 4th Jan.

:)

Sillybilly35 · 14/01/2021 13:32

Today's dinner was seeded bread toasted with fried egg using fry light with chopped tomatoes. 585 calories.

Also had 2 beanies caramel popcorn flavor coffee.
