Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Hi everyone,
Today’s food, I didn't get photos of everything.

Breakfast: Banana; 2 x frankfurter sausages; cherry tomatoes;
Snack: 2x squares of Lindt
Lunch: Homemade leek and carrot soup; lentil curls;
Snack: 2 squares milk chocolate;
Ryvita thins with babybel cheese and chutney; 1x chocolate orange mini egg (20 Cals)
Dinner: Tacos+ beef; cheese; salad; sour cream; salsa;
Dessert: Greek yoghurt; Biscoff spread; dark chocolate chips; 20g nuts;
Calories eaten: Will be approx 1800
Calories burnt will be approx 1600 by the end of the evening so no deficit. I’m aiming to reduce my carbs this week (as I think this affects my weight loss) and I’ve had quite a fairly low carb day so I don’t mind not being in a deficit.

Back on taking photos today and also decided to track cake again, I let myself snack a bit too much over the weekend/yesterday! Posting as I go :) @canipressthebackbuttonplease I just use my fitness pal, I like how you can scan Barcodes and save meals you eat often to save time, and easy to log when cooking from scratch too :)

Breakfast- almond milk mocha
Late morning- blueberries, melon and 2 crispbreads
Lunch- 6 quorn nuggets with flatbread and chopped raw veggies mixed with Greek yoghurt :)
Will probably have veggie meatballs and pasta for dinner
Hope everyone has a good day!!

Looks like a good day @FatCatThinCat!
I had a few snacks this afternoon but not as much as previous days :)
Snacks - almond biscuit, 2 x stuffed dates, another biscuit, almond milk decaf mocha
Dinner- linda mccartney veggie meatballs with wholewheat pasta and salad

Around 2150 cals so either a maintain or a bit of a deficit if I go on a night run! But I’m still a bit hungry so i may have something else, not sure what!

Sorry posted too soon.. meant to say @canipressthebackbuttonplease I use the Fitbit app to track calories, I like that it shows you when you're on or off target for calories.
@Sillybilly35 glad you had a good birthday

@canipressthebackbuttonplease I'm using the weightwatchers app to track what I eat. It also helps me to plan good meals as they have daily menu plans, which I use. Otherwise I'd have the same thing every day as I have no imagination.

Bad day yesterday again. I'm so ashamed. But this time I did capture most of it on camera and I'm going to share, although my hands are shaking with anxiety about it. So yesterday I had:

Breakfast: toast and ginger jam

Mid morning: banana

Lunch: stir fried chicken and noodles

So far, normal healthy eating ...

Mid afternoon: an apple, some grapes, toast with biscoff

The 'hunger' drive is starting to kick in now but I'm still trying to keep it under control as I want to eat healthily. I do not want to eat rubbish.

Still mid afternoon: Cadbury's picnic, hoping this will switch off the hunger

Still mid afternoon: a wispa, a dairy milk bar. Wheels are falling off.

Still mid afternoon: a double decker and a crunchie. All control is completely gone now. I can't stop this.

It's not over yet.

Still mid afternoon: a twirl and an oreo bar (don't even like the bloody things), a spoonful of biscoff follow by more spoonfuls of biscoff but I can't remember how many, 6 or 8 maybe.

Then I could stop because I reached the point where I would be sick if I ate anything else. I spent the rest of the afternoon crying with guilt and shame and feeling dirty.

Dinner: vegetable bolognaise and wholewheat pasta (back to proper food).

decisionsincisions · 11/03/2021 09:07

Hi. Long time lurker on your thread, I think it is a great idea and will probably help me to document my daily eating too, I just haven't managed to get into a healthy routine yet.

Reason for posting is your last two posts @fatcatthincat. I just wanted to say that I have been there, felt that sense of out of control. I just wanted to say that - tomorrow is another day. Of course. Choccy binge was not a great idea, but it is over now. Make better decisions tomorrow and do not be so hard on yourself. You have been doing great. You can do this.

raspberrypickle · 11/03/2021 09:47

@FatCatThinCat well done for being honest, it takes a great deal of bravery to write a post like that. I hope today is a better day for you

Friedbanana · 11/03/2021 10:47

@FatCatThinCat exactly what everyone else has said, well done and thank you for sharing, I’ve definitely definitely been there too many many times and it’s so good to normalise it because it happens, and it’s also really good you ate a nice healthy nutritious dinner still, rather than restricting and then binging again the next day or whatever. Today is a new day, you’ve done no lasting damage :)

FatCatThinCat · 11/03/2021 12:09

Thank you for all your support. It's a testament to this thread that it felt safe enough to share. I've talked about it before but seeing it laid bare is a whole other matter. But I wanted to get it out there because I know I won't be the only one struggling like this and I hope it helps others struggling with the shame to know it's not just them.

I think I'm actually quite lucky because I know the cause of my issue. This isn't a picture of someone who is lazy or greedy or poor or uneducated, which are the sorts of judgments I often see on threads about obesity. It's a picture of sleep apnea, a symptom of a physical illness. This makes it easier for me to shake it off and move on because I know it's not my fault, even if at the time it feels like it is.

I was reading an article earlier by ResMed (the main manufacturer of CPAP machines) and it said that 90% of women with sleep apnea do not get diagnosed because GPs don't understand how it presents in women and only recognise syptoms as presented in men. That's an awful lot of women who are suffering like I did every single day and blaming themselves.

But today I'm having a good day. Slept a bit better, apart from the cat playing silly buggers at 4.00 am. One day at a time.

FatCatThinCat · 11/03/2021 18:07

What a difference a day makes! Today I've had:

Breakfast: toast and ginger jam

Mid morning: nothing as not hungry

Lunch: vegetable bolognaise with wholewheat spaghetti
