Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

I still can't post pictures, which is probably a good thing see as I've done nothing but eat crap all day. Had an awful night last night and today I'm paying for it.

canipressthebackbuttonplease · 02/03/2021 14:43

@FatCatThinCat

Ah, I'm sorry to hear things aren't going well! Try to be kind to yourself.

Friedbanana · 02/03/2021 20:20

Sorry to hear you had a bad night @FatCatThinCat, hopefully tonight is better!

@canipressthebackbuttonplease ahh I do exactly the same, eat things just to stop them going to waste even if I’m not enjoying ! But well done for stopping!!

Sorry so many biscuit photos today 🤪 I was in M&S for first time in aggggeeees and saw they had lots of exciting biscuits so decided to try some! Absolutely no regrets, deff worth the calories! I have to say, I’m glad I started taking photos again as I’ve been eating much more mindfully (if I wasn’t taking photos maybe I’d have exceeded my 5 biscuits haha and enjoyed them less!)

Breakfast- small almond milk coffee with zero cal gingerbread syrup (thiught this was gross the first time I tried it but it’s actually alright so using it a bit more!), 2 crispbreads with almond butter, spread and ginger nut butter

Lunch- salmon katsu curry- had lots of white rice underneath, estimated 900 cals

Snack- 3 biscuits, oat milk gingerbread latte, 14g chocolate popcorn, goji berries, raisins

Dinner- vegan black pudding, egg and cheese bun

Snack- 2 biscuits

About 2100 calories eaten, 2300 cals burnt :)

Hello

@Friedbanana I used to work at M&S, and got so many free biscuits..

Breakfast: 2/3 tin of beans (250)
Snack: Bruschetta (150)
Lunch: Lentil dahl soup, tzatziki and celery (300)
Snack: three falafels, about seven pringles, one and a half slices of white bread, celery with tablespoon of light Philadelphia (400)
Dinner: Quorn fish, three potato waffles, peas and carrots (700)
Snack after dinner: Three squares of chocolate
Drinks: Latte (100), mango lassi (100)

Calories about 2000, give or take. Exercise-wise, I walked 2 miles and cycled 4 miles. I also went for a 2 mile run and did a 20 minute Pilates routine.

Faith50 · 02/03/2021 22:08

canipress
That is a lot of exercise.

For those who go for long walks and cycles, do you fit this around full time work and homeschooling?

I struggle to walk more than 2-3 miles a day after working an 8 hour day, assisting dc with school work, cooking etc.

raspberrypickle · 02/03/2021 22:47

Hi everyone,
Today’s food:
Breakfast: Nescafé skinny cappuccino sachet; banana; 1/2 apple;
Lunch: Ham, salad and mayo baguette; pop chips;
Snack: 2 squares of dark chocolate; 1/2 cookie;
Dinner: leftover sausage casserole and rice
Dessert: 1/2 Cooked apple and cinnamon + custard, 12g biscoff, 10g dark chocolate chips; 20g nuts; Hot chocolate with half skimmed and half almond milk+ marshmallows
I did 11,270 steps, a combination of two walks and tidying at home.

Calories eaten: 1605 approx
Calories burnt will be 2000 ish by the end of the evening

@Faith50 At the moment I’m looking for work as we moved in the summer and I haven’t been able to find anything yet. My daughter is at nursery 3 days so I try to go running on those days or at the weekends, when I’m at home with her I try to make sure we go for a walk together to get my steps up, although I know my step count will probably be lower on those days. I'm not sure how I'll do with exercise and calorie counting when I'm working again, it must be tough to balance everything.

@FatCatThinCat hope you have a better night tonight

FatCatThinCat · 03/03/2021 07:05

Much better @raspberrypickle, thanks for asking. Still can't post pictures though.

canipressthebackbuttonplease · 03/03/2021 09:44

@Faith50

I work full-time 8-5, but have no kids yet, I'm mid-20s and probably won't have any for a few years. I've been working at home for the past year which makes it easier. I also don't have a car so if I want to go anywhere, I have to walk/run/cycle

I have no doubt that homeschooling makes time to exercise far harder to find! I do struggle to fit it in and have to be tough on myself, but exercise is something I enjoy so tend to use my lunch break for it

But yeah, no kids obviously makes it easier for me

Faith50 · 03/03/2021 09:55

raspberrypickle
It is great that you bring your toddler daughter on walks even though she slows you down.Wink

canipress.
I always assume every woman on mumsnet is or is about to be a parent! Silly assumption to make. I also use my lunch hour to go on walks.

canipressthebackbuttonplease · 03/03/2021 10:18

@Faith50

Haha that's a fair assumption to make. I came on here first because I really want children but am not in the position to have any and find that hard to deal with, people gave me some good advice and I stuck around

raspberrypickle · 03/03/2021 11:36

@Faith50 we've got her a scooter now so we can move a bit faster! She's still learning how to avoid crashing into people/ benches/ dogs etc! 🥴

canipressthebackbuttonplease · 03/03/2021 19:44

Sorry @riotlady I missed that you were unwell, I hope you feel better soon!!

@canipress oh my goodness free M&S biscuits is an amazing job perk!!! Are there any particular varieties you would recommend?!

@Faith50 I’m also similar to @canipressthebackbuttonplease no children yet, although I’d love one soon! I have absolutely no idea how anyone is managing to juggle wfh and homeschooling, let alone managing to eat well/exercise! I am currently only working about 30 hours a week from home (I’m freelance and before covid I’d usually do 50-60 hours a week, sometimes more and sometimes 7 days a week so I’m deff making the most of all the extra time off with nice long dog walks and more running! When I’ve previously had really busy working periods, I definitely didn’t do any extra exercise and ate much worse hence the almost decade of yoyo dieting! ) so yes I salute anyone who is managing to juggle all of these things and I recognise my situation makes it far easier for me at the moment.

Here was my food today, I haven’t tracked calories but I think I’m prob in a deficit as I’ve done a lot of walking, 27k steps and burnt 2850 cals.

Breakfast - large oat milk latte , 2 crispbreads with jam and peanut butter

Snack- chai latte

Lunch- large Yorkshire pudding, roasts, chicken, gravy

Snack- 2 x biscuits

Dinner- burger salad bowl with rice

Pudding- hersheys cookies and creme egg

Had a bit of extra rice too I didn’t photograph. Also weighed this morning and I’m pleased it was a maintain in my goal range :)

I seriously wondered if you all went for walks at 5am to accommodate work, homeschooling and family life! Either that or you employed nannies/au pairs!Grin
