Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

I've had a difficult few days with a banging headache I can't shake off. It's still going now! So I didn't take any pictures yesterday as I felt too shit. But I ate:

Breakfast: toast with ginger jam
Mid morning: banana and a pear
Lunch: pita bread with tuna and cottage cheese
Mid afternoon: a tablespoon of biscoff
Second mid afternoon: a tablespoon of biscoff
Third mid: afternoon: a tablespoon of biscoff
Fourth mid afternoon: 3 bolied eggs
Dinner: homemade meatballs in tomato sauce, courgette and garlic bread

Everything apart from dinner and the eggs was actually eaten before 11.00 am, which isn't good. But that's what happens when my sleep is messed up. Kept waking up because my head was hurting.

On a positive, I still lost 0.7 kg this week, which was a big surprise. Now weighing in at 113.8 kg from a starting weight of 140 kg.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the encouragement @riotlady and @Friedbanana - I’m so glad that I inspired you to start running again, words are so powerful aren’t they? I’d assumed you’d been running for years but it’s encouraging to know that you’ve not been running that long and you managed 10k the other day! I can’t imagine ever running that far!
Yesterday’s food:
B: Smoked salmon and poached egg on toast; Mocha sachet;
Snack: pop chips 25g?
Lunch: Homemade Chicken soup; crackers; (I only ate about half of this bowl as it wasn’t very nice!)
Snack: Chocolate peanuts, half a kinder bueno; 2 pieces of Cadbury Daim - this was over the course of the afternoon!
Dinner: 2x chicken sausages mixed with creme fraiche, red onion, red pepper, broccoli and spaghetti.
Dessert: Other half of Kinder Bueno +4 more pieces of Daim

Reading back I can see that I was a bit choc happy yesterday, this is why I’ve stopped buying milk chocolate as I have zero moderation! This is also why it helps me to write down what I’ve eaten as in the past I would have been in denial..
Calories eaten: 1755
Calories burnt:1510

I’m giving myself a pep talk as I know it’s ok to have days like this and in the past I would have had several days in a row like this which is no longer the case so I know I’m doing better. End of pep talk 🙇🏻‍♀️.

Hope you're feeling better today @FatCatThinCat and well done on your weight loss!

Well done @FatCatThinCat, that’s amazing! And I hope your headache disappears soon!!

@raspberrypickle no I’ve deff not been running for years! And was always just awful at sports, picked last for all school teams 😅 so I couldn’t imagine running 10k either up until last year! One thing that has helped me run further (you prob already know this but I just started doing it recently and really does help) is running like super super slowly for first km, it always felt more natural to run fastest then as you have more energy (I think c25k tells you to do a 5 min slow warm up but I don’t think I ever did it slow enough!) but if you go really much slower than your normal pace, it warms up your muscles amd they don’t get fatigue, which is what normally makes you want to stop after a while! Again you prob know this haha but sharing in case , as it has helped me a lot! Also I find it easier to do longer runs in the evenings after I’ve eaten most of my daily calories!

Ahh very sensible pep talk! Yes, enjoy your choc and take the win that it was only one day!! I am giving myself same pep talk after a very glutinous day yesterday that I’m almost ashamed to post! But again, taking it as a win that I stopped at 100g Ben and jerrys rather than the whole tub, and it was only one day, which is a lot better than what I was like this time every previous year :) also i enjoyed every last bite, I hope you did too!!

Here is yesterday’s food:

Breakfast- large mint mocha

mid morning- small chai latte and half a blondie from takeout cafe

Lunch- salad with leftover chicken tikka starter takeaway

Snacks, microwaved chickpea blondie, apple, yoghurt, 7g almond butter , crumbled biscuit , roughly 45g spread, 100g vegan Ben and Jerry brownie ice cream, waffle cone

Dinner- more takeaway leftovers- 1/2 stuffed paratha Refried (amaaaaazing), tarka dall (thought i was being all clever adding water to bulk it out a bit but ended up getting carried away and it ended up like soup) bit of rice

About 2860 cals eaten, thankfully managed to burn 3040 cals as i did a lot of steps, 31k including another 10k run :)

I must admit I was pretty proud of how good this salad looked, but my phone battery is really crap and old and my phone was completely dead despite being on charge for an hour, so I went and disrupted DP while he was working from home to ask him to take a photo for me on his phone 😅 he was not best pleased but he took a pretty good photo!

Hey everyone sorry not been very involved in chatting just posted pics last few days. A big well done to those who have lost weight and well done on your running @raspberrypickle.

@Friedbanana that salad looks very nice. Whats the brownie ice cream like?

Friedbanana · 13/02/2021 14:56

Absolutely no need to apologise @Sillybilly35!! Hope everything is ok with you!! Yes the fudge brownie is nice! But not tooo nice iyswim 😅 like Ben and jerrys birthday cake I have zero control.. and anything at all marshmallow related..

Urgggh why do I have zero self control on Saturday afternoons? I just flop and constantly visit the kitchen, not because I’m hungry or have particular cravings, not even emotional eating just zero reason/excuse! need to try and think of something else to do 😅 posting all food so far in the hope I can draw a line under it and now not eat until dinner!! Send your self control vibes my way plz 😅

breakfast- large cashew milk cinnamon white choc latte

Brunch- banana oatmeal protein pancakes with caramelised banana, frozen fruit, 15g spread and 10g sweet freedom gingerbread syrup , goji berries, followed by small chai latte

Lunch- bun with vegan sausage patty, red onion chutney

Snacks- 1/2 kinder bueno, other half, 5g spread with 5g almond butter and 10g b&j, then 5g spread with 20g b&j
Small cashew milk gingerbread latte decaf and gingerbread thin

Friedbanana · 13/02/2021 15:13

@FatCatThinCat 😂😂 ok come on over!!! Will be handy actually to be able to make double portions of banana ice cream because my blender doesn’t do well with the one banana as the banana manages to escape the blades by keeping to the side! I don’t blame the banana tbh, it’s what I’d do too if I was in a blender, but I think if there were two bananas the blender would win. So yes come on over and we can share banana ice cream! 🍌 but not today because no more snacks! (For me I mean, you are of course allowed snacks!)

i've just had a Christmas tube of jellytots. Not only is my diet screwed for today but my tongue feels like it's been sandpapered.

raspberrypickle · 13/02/2021 21:31

Hi everyone,
Oh @Friedbanana I was the same at school, I hated PE, I just used to hide on sports day so that I wouldn’t have to take part! I definitely agree about running slowly, at first I felt really silly when other runners would zoom past but now I just try to ignore what others are doing.

@Sillybilly35 no need to apologise, as Fried banana said, hope you’re ok.
Today’s food:
B:1 slice of bacon; 1 slice of toast; scrambled egg; White chocolate and caramel mocha;
L: Homemade soup; Lentil curls; apple; Salted caramel Nakd bar;
Snack: 3/4 of a Wispa bar- in my defence this was handed to me in a weak moment: I’d just finished shopping in Asda which was a stressful experience as it was really busy and I was hungry and I did share the last 1/4 with my husband and daughter so.. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Snack: 15g? Pop chips
D: Chinese take away- sweet and sour chicken, pineapple fried rice, 6x mini spring rolls; few prawn crackers- I measured everything out, I had to estimate the calories, I think it came to around 770.
Snack: 15g Lindt 1x homemade dinosaur biscuit

I attempted a walk at the beach but it was bitterly cold so I didn’t stay out for long. I topped up my steps using YouTube videos when I got home.

Calories eaten: 1704 (approx) I’m still feeling a bit hungry so this will probably go up a bit.
Calories burnt will be around 2000 by the end of the evening.

That takeaway looks amazing @raspberrypickle! And yes deff ignore what other people are doing while running! And my goodness that cookie dough looks sooo good @Sillybilly35!!! Did you make it yourself? And you have had like absolutely huuuuge deficits every single day so far, so a day with a surplus won’t do any harm at all!! In fact I think I read ‘cheat days’ are really good (as long as you don’t go like way overboard and cancel out all your deficits haha but you clearly haven’t at all) Hope you enjoyed it all :D

I managed not to eat till dinner yesterday (after I posted mid afternoon).. but then had some popcorn and then lotsss of spread/ bit white choc, loads goji berries, half a reese cup, some other crap I can’t remember 🤪 stopped taking photos which is a recipe for overeating for me.. no idea on cals in total for the day but im guessing maybe around a 500cal surplus as i burnt just under 2500 cals so not too bad.. I really am going to try cut back on the shitty snacks and focus on having one enjoyable thing a day (starting today with a huge slice of vegan biscoff and caramel cake from our local cafe- prob 700 cals but seeing as I eat that much in random pointless snacks I may as well have cake /other substantial treats that I enjoy!!)

Scales went up one lb this week which I am not at all surprised by, I think I’m going to just focus on maintaining my weight around 8st10-8st12 and carry on building up my fitness for a while, as I think I feel quite happy with my weight atm :) I put on some old shorts over leggings today and they were so loose! On the rare occasions I’m not wearing joggers/leggings/pjs atm i normally wear skinny jeans which were too tight in the first place as i refused to get a size/two sizes up haha so I can’t really tell the difference with them, but these shorts had soooo much spare room, i was genuinely very surprised! So just sharing as a little reminder for everyone to try on old clothes to remind yourself of your progress!! As sometimes its hard to tell just looking in the mirror. And take progress photos too! I had a little look at a photo I took last April before I lost weight and it really helps you notice the difference!
I’m still of course going to post/track as otherwise I am sure I would overeat! I know this is a weight loss board so I hope no one minds me posting maintenance eating!?

Hi all!!

I really want to join this with you. I have gained about nine pounds over lockdown. I eat when bored and depressed, food feels like my best friend sometimes. I work at home now and have done for a year - I'm so lonely and bored at home!

I'm not overweight, I'm 5 ft 6 and 8 stone 13 or so but it really shows on me and I want to get back down to 8 stone 3 or so. Mostly, I just feel less confident and like I am powerless around food.

I just can't stop snacking. I'm also addicted to chocolate milkshake drinks and mochas!! Maybe posting pictures will help me make better choices?

I exercise enough, 10k steps a day and I do HIIT or weights three or four times a week. But not enough to counter my eating apparently. I eat about 14500 calories a week, definitely more on Friday and Saturdays (wine and takeaways!). I have worked out that I consume 1500 calories a week in sugary drinks and 700 calories a week in wine Blush. I'm not willing to give up the wine though!!

According to my google fit app, I only burn 1600 a day despite exercising plenty. That doesn't seem right in my opinion. I am going to aim to eat about 1800 Monday to Thursday and on Sundays, allowing myself a bit extra on Friday and Saturday.

I will start tomorrow :) You all seem really kind and supportive.

Friedbanana · 14/02/2021 21:16

Hello @canipressthebackbuttonplease, yes please do join! It’s really hard not to snack atm isn’t it! But yes taking photos really helps I think :) yes 1600 sounds quite low! I checked my Fitbit app and on a day I walked 10k steps I burnt about 2000 cals so I imagine yours would be pretty similar?

Food today-
Breakfast- gingerbread mocha, protein hot choc before run
Lunch- smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel
Dessert- maple plait- soooo so nice (tesco frozen bakery section is beaut, the cinnamon swirls are also yum!) 339cals and however I didn’t snack on anything else :) had it with fage, 5g spread and frozen strawberries
Dinner- Linda McCartney meatballs with wholewheat pasta, 25g cheese and salad

Eaten just over 2000 cals but may have a chai latte later, and will have burnt between 2500-2800 cals dependant on whether I go on another dog walk tonight or DP does it! Banking the deficit as we have a few treats planned this week as I’m off work :) hope everyone is ok and enjoying the slightly warmer weather! I am missing the snow but the sunshine today was beautiful 🤩
