Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Mid afternoon: homemade snack mix of nuts, dried fruit and cinnamon crispbread.

Dinner: Danish rye bread, spinach, smoked salmon, poached egg, and bernaise sauce. Should have been hollandaise but I bought the wrong one. This will also be lunch for today.

@FatCatThinCat your food looks lovely (i would like to come live with you and have that nice cod lunch 😂) and that poached egg looks perfect!!

Have you found a nice hollandaise sauce to buy? I never found a nice one as i also used to try recreate eggs royal! I tried the jar Maille one and thought it was gross, maybe just me as it had good reviews, but it completely ruined my meal :( then had the schwartz powder mix one which was nicer, but a bit bland! I was going to try make it one day but a healthy version with greek yoghurt, but never got round to it!

FatCatThinCat · 27/01/2021 09:07

I use the supermarket's own brand ready made sauce. It tastes fine to me but I don't have anything else to compare it to. I'm not in the UK so that won't help you. The bernaise sauce worked quite well too.

Smile3 · 27/01/2021 12:03

I'm fighting my urge to eat rubbish, woke up feel dreadful, head feels foggy bit of a cough, sat here with a blanket round me and heating on. Need to do homeschooling pretty soon ad keep putting it off. Someone give me a nudge 🤒

Friedbanana · 27/01/2021 12:34

Hey @Smile3! maybe you could allow yourself one nice thing that you’re craving and leave it at that, it’s not end of world if you have a higher calorie day one day of week, or say to yourself ‘not now but later’- giving yourself permission to have it, even if later, may get rid of that urge? :)

ahh i see @FatCatThinCat i shall continue my nice hollandaise sauce quest, or stop being lazy and make it myself 😂

Welcome @hiptobeasquare!

@Sillybilly35 yay glad you like!

Today’s food:
Breakfast: large mocha
Lunch- usual fried banana bagel, biscoff, peanut butter, flora
Pudding- greek yoghurt, microwave apple, cinnamon, almons butter, biscoff, marshmallow fluff, maple syrup
Snack- Birthday cake fibre one bar (no photo)
Dinner- quorn nuggets, mayflower curry sauce, sticky rice and looooads of salad (had about double this salad with some extra sauce after finishing this plate!)
Planning to go on a run later so will have a protein hot choc too

About 2000 cals eaten and after run i’ll have burnt about 2700 by end of day (I apparently burn 55 cals an hour just from being alive according to fitbit so that’s how i estimate total cals burnt in day, even when the day isn’t finished yet!)

Hi everyone,
Welcome @hiptobeasquare @FatCatThinCat 👋🏽
I’ve had a busy couple of days so haven’t been logging calories but I think I’ve been doing ok as I haven’t eaten anything that different and I’ve been fairly active.. I finally conquered c25k wk6 run 3 yesterday! I set out thinking I’d just run for as long as I could as I didn’t sleep well the night before but I got to 12.5 minutes and thought I had a bit more energy left, then suddenly I was at 20 minutes and I thought I might as well keep going to 25!@whyarewealwaysmuddy
how did you get on with your run?!
Today I’ve gone on two walks and done 11,000+ steps.
Today’s food:
Early Breakfast: Smoothie, usual ingredients plus Whole earth peanut butter which I've now started adding, it makes it taste so much nicer!
Later Breakfast (after going for a walk): 2x chicken frankfurters with cherry tomatoes and onions on a slice of seeded bread
Snack: 2x squares of Lindt
Lunch: Homemade soup, 3x garlic crackers; lentil curls
Snack: 1/2 a cookie
Dinner: small slice of homemade quiche; half a potato; boiled egg; salad; Mayo
Snack: other 1/2 of cookie 🥴
Dessert: custard, cooked apple and cinnamon, 11g biscoff, 15g mixed nuts
Total calories eaten: approx 1990
Total burnt by the end of the day will be around 2000
Hope you feel better soon @Smile3

Yesterday's as I couldn't post last night:

Breakfast: Raspberry and chocolate chia pudding. Looks horrible but is really nice.

Mid morning: banana and coffee

Lunch: Salmon and poached egg on rye bread (same as dinner yesterday)

Mid afternoon: porridge with apple, hazelnuts and cardemom. It smelt so good that ate half before taking a picture Blush

Dinner: sausage, aubergine, courgette, cherry tomatoes, olives, cooked with French herbs, and garlic mash.

Someone how I've lost a day and am sharing stuff from 2 days ago instead of yesterday. I'm technically illiterate.

So actually yesterday was:

Breakfast: scrambled egg, ham and salad

Mid morning: just coffee as not hungry

Lunch: the sausage and potato thingy from the night before.

Mid afternoon: cinnamon crispbread with nutella and banana

Dinner: sourdough roll with lettuce, tomato, steak, pickled red onion and mayonnaise.

I should be up to date now.

I'm stalking all the food/weight loss threads at the min as trying to shift my last stone of baby weight. 7 lbs gone so far. Can I ask as I always get confused with burning calories... how do you know you're burning so many, these numbers are big that I'm seeing on here. When I work out I only burn 3-400 (not massive workouts) you much he doing so much exercise? Or have you a way of finding out how many you burn just from daily life?

Hi, I'm just getting my head around this but if you calculate your BMR you should get an approximate no of calories that your body burns just by being alive, I use the Fitbit app which calculates BMR and exercise which is why the numbers look high.. hope that helps!
namechangefail2020 · 28/01/2021 09:22

@raspberrypickle ok brilliant, thank you

hiptobeasquare · 28/01/2021 11:03

@raspberrypickle thanks for clarifying that as I had been wondering the same and thinking how was I going to get some much exercise in.
I am not calorie counting though, I’m just trying to prioritise getting fruit and veg into my diet.
Breakfast- mango pineapple smoothie with bran flakes and mixed nuts.
I’ll try and take a lunch picture!

hiptobeasquare · 28/01/2021 12:07

Lunch- cheese avocado and hummus bagel with salad and pop chips.

Friedbanana · 28/01/2021 12:18

Yes this exactly!

Also, 3-400 cals burnt from a workout is actually really good! You will prob find that that, plus your BMR, plus any cals burnt from just generally being on your feet during day = a highish number!

Just in case a breakdown is useful, this was my day yesterday:
I burnt 2404 cals according to fitbit (I know yesterday i said it would be 2700 but i ended up going to bed instead if going on run lol so that’s the -300!)

of that, 1350 was my BMR, then i did a 2 hour dog walk so that was an extra 635cals according to fitbit = 1985 cals, so the extra 400ish cal was from just generally being on feet around house, like cleaning the kitchen, prepping food, walking about a bit between zoom calls etc. and that apparently amounted to 400 cals over course of the day! not sure how accurate it is

OP posts:
Friedbanana · 28/01/2021 12:23

Oops sorry i meant to quote @raspberrypickle answer!

Also where people have jobs where they’re on feet lots that adds up too, like my friend is a nurse and is smaller than me, so lower BMR, and on her 12 hour shift days (she does no actual exercise in addition) her fitbit normally says she burns 3000+ cals during those days! And likewise when i worked in a school and was walking round school lots i would burn loads on those days, near to 3000! So my point is you may burn more than you think therefore be able to eat more than you think in order to lose weight :)
