Hi! So during the first lockdown, i set up an instagram where I posted photos of every single thing that entered my mouth except from tea, and it really did discourage pointless snacking as I’d pop into the kitchen for a random biscuit but then I couldn’t be bothered to take a photo of biscuit as phone was in the other room, then I realised I didn’t actually really need the biscuit and back it went! It was super effective for a while and along with MFP I lost about a stone, but then I started to follow other instagram account and got some followers back and felt pressure to make everything look pretty, which meant I stopped posting absolutely everything so started having random snacks again, and have now put back on a few pounds! I tried setting up a new private instagram but wasn’t really that motivated! So I’m starting again but instead hoping a mumsnet thread will help!? Anyone fancy joining?!

I’m for a calorie deficit of around 500 per day, so eating about 1750-2000 and burning 2250-2500 (i have a fitbit alta which estimates total calories burnt). I walk a lot (1.5-2 hours a day with dog plus i walk to work) but am going to try getting into running again too! Trying to not be too restrictive food-wise as I’m having problems overeating by quite a bit some days! (when I don’t track while eating and then add up after I can easily put away 4000 calories a day without realising Confused )
I’m currently about 9stone (havent checked for a bit so possibly more!) and aiming for about 8st4.
So yes, please do join and we can look at eachother’s non-instagram-able food! Halo

Ps. a tip I never knew about MFP which makes life sooo much easier, is you can click edit, and check all ingredients for a meal if you’re batch cooking for example, then do ‘save meal’! Saved sooo much time! But maybe everyone knew this already except from me Grin

Todays food for me:
Breakfast: banana bread muffin, microwaved with frozen berries, biscoff spread, 2 crumbled biscoff biscuits (fully recommended, tastes like berry crumble!), 200g greek yoghurt mixed with cinnamon, plus a small mocha ~ 508 cals
Lunch: chicken paella leftover ~ 410 cals
Snack at work: Almond bounce ball - 158 cals
Snack after work: mini hersheys bar plus 2 mini cinnamon biscuits - 78 cals
Dinner: Vegan burger with cheese, sweet pot fries and salad - 800 cals
Lots of tea with oat milk! - 44 cals
Total cals: ~ 1954

Snack- 35g 70% choc throughout afternoon, a small handful blueberries

Hi everyone,
Haha! Not much inspiration from me yesterday @Friedbanana, I was aching from running 🙁 and the weather was awful.. my knee support arrived in the post so hopefully that will help with future runs..
Yesterday’s food:
Breakfast: Smoothie and scrambled egg
Snacks: Quinoa chips; Cheese corn crisps, square of Lindt
Lunch: Turkey burger and salad with Greek yoghurt and small amount of mayonnaise + satsuma
Snacks: 4 x mini eggs
Dinner: Lamb steak with a sauce made of leeks, onion, cherry tomatoes, and Greek yoghurt and 55g of chips.
I started off the day well but then let myself get too hungry in the afternoon - I quickly ate some scrambled egg before going food shopping but I should have had a more substantial brunch/lunch which would have kept me going and not led to snacking later in the day, I’m just writing this here so that I remember this lesson in the future!! On a more positive note, if this had happened in the past I would have started feeling hungry whilst shopping and then bought a takeaway sandwich, crisps and sugary drink from the supermarket (because who can resist a meal deal?!) and then justified it to myself or felt guilty, I’m out of this habit now which I feel good about.
Also I went to bed earlier yesterday which definitely stopped me from feeling hungry late in the evening!
1470 calories eaten and 1680 burnt so a bit more of a deficit yesterday.
Weighed myself this morning and I've lost a total of 6.3lbs since the end of November which I'm pleased with 🙂

Op I just came on to say that your food all looks delicious.

Sillybilly35 · 21/01/2021 19:13

Hello 😁
@Friedbanana glad it's working for you too. It works really well for me because my tea is my main meal and the one I look forward too so i like to have plenty of cals.

I ended up having breakfast today because my little boy was up really early so couldn't wait for dinner but all good. My son likes to 'share' my food so I'll be in a deficit more than I think I am on some days he doesn't have a huge amount though, he's only 2. I can't eat anything without him helping me 😂

Breakfast - malted bloomer cheese toastie. 508 csls

Dinner - sweet chilli chicken wrap with salad and mayo. Bag of lentil curls and Satsuma. 498 cals

Tea - chicken and mushroom curry with veggie rice and 2 poppadoms. 740 cals

Snack - 4 sweets. 34 csls

Drinks - 1. Coffee, 1 beanies coffee, cup of tea, 300ml water, 600 ml squash. 71 cals

Total calories eaten - 1851
Total calories burned - 2800
Calories burned from activity - 480
Calorie deficit - 949

Hi everyone,
Hope you’ve all had a good day. @Sillybilly35 my 3yr old is the same, she can hear me opening a crisp packet from miles away 😁.
I still felt achey and tired when I woke up so I decided to walk today rather than run. I walked for an hour or so by the sea (5 minutes drive away) and then in the afternoon left home a bit earlier to pick my toddler up from nursery to fit in another quick walk which brought my steps up to 11,000.
Today’s food:
Breakfast: Coffee with skimmed milk and stevia sweetener- remembered I had this in the cupboard so thought I’d try it again, I don’t love the taste but I’d got into the habit of having Nescafé coffee sachets which are quite high in calories and carbs so I’m going to just have those as a treat now and then. Banana, apple, handful (30g) of nuts.
Lunch: Scrambled egg, 3x hash brown waffles, 2 slices of bacon
Snack: 20g quinoa chips, 2 squares of Lindt
Dinner: homemade chicken and prawn korma with cashew nuts with 60g rice plus two poppadoms
Dessert: Custard with apples, strawberries, 11g biscoff spread and 10g dark choc chips.

Total calories eaten: 1740 approx as I had to estimate for the curry, I'll probably have a hot drink before bed.
Calories burnt: 1993
Deficit: 253

Morning!
@raspberrypickle that’s an amazing loss especially over Christmas!! and well done for getting into healthy habits and loosing the guilt!!

Food yesterday:
Breakfast- cashew milk coffee
Lunch- same bagel as past few days as it’s just my favourite, with extra cinnamon sprinkled, only 430 cals and hardly any protein, 13g, but for some reason i find it satisfying, maybe it’s the peanut butter!
Snack-100g greek yoghurt, marshmallow fluff, lotus spread, berries and grapes
Snack- 18g lindt (no pic), oat milk cinnamon latte, and hazelnut milk hot choc (new new fave low cal milk!! doesnt froth but taste is soooo nice and 29cals per 100ml, i just want to drink it all out the carton though..)
Dinner- chicken fajita with salad
Post night run- protein hot choc

About 1650 cals (estimated dinner as 600 cals as DP cooked it) and burnt 2350 so deficit of 700 :)

also @raspberrypickle hope your achey-ness subsides, sounds awful!! walks are so so good though, good you got out for that!! and absolutely not worth pushing yourself to run when not 100%! I ended up pushing myself when i shouldn’t have last summer then didn’t run for like 6 months as a result.. so your approach is best!

Wow that’s amazing @Smile3 well done!!!

Had quite a treat day today but think I just about burnt what I ate :)

Breakfast- hazelnut mocha
Lunch- same bagel as normal
Pudding- 300g greek yoghurt with berries with lots of marshmallow fluff and biscoff (had more out of the jar which i didn’t photograph! Weighed the jar before i started having it then weighed after so at least i could see how much I’d had and log it :) )
Dinner- chinese takeaway! went for chicken chop suey with rice and had exactly half so i can have the rest for lunch :) I always end up overeating chinese so quite proud of myself! we got free prawn crackers too, but i managed to eat only 1! And then i had the teeniest bit of leftover deep fried chicken from DP but only very small amount (and if it’s someone else’s leftovers, the cals don’t count, right?!) 😅 Added my own side salad too which I’m going to try and do next time too as it really helps fill the plate so psychologically i feel like i’ve had more i think maybe 🤪
Pudding- about half tub of Halo top cinnamon bun ice cream with blueberries, marshmallow fluff and biscoff

Eaten and burnt around 2200 cals :)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the encouragement @Friedbanana!
I wasn’t able to do a run yesterday but I managed to get up to 10,000 steps by walking which I’m pleased with. I wasn’t sure about walking after dark but I went out when my husband got home from work yesterday and found the nearby streets were quite well lit, I also only had one earphone in so that I could hear what was going on around me so that helped!
Yesterday’s food:
Breakfast: Greek yoghurt with fruit, nuts and honey + mocha sachet
Lunch: Homemade soup; lentil curls, apple, then later after getting home from a walk- scrambled egg and a slice of ham
Snacks: Square of Lindt, pop chips (10g approx), small fromage frais, 1x poppadom.
Dinner: Stir fry with 2x chicken sausages, vegetables and small portion of noodles with homemade sweet and sour sauce
Dessert: Same as day before, custard, biscoff spread, cooked apple, strawberries, and dark chocolate chips.
I also had half a slice of toast, a satsuma and a drink of milk before bed as I felt quite hungry later on in the evening. Hope you're all having a good weekend! Smile

raspberrypickle · 23/01/2021 13:26

Sorry, to add: calories eaten 1777 (approx) calories burnt 2022 so a deficit of 245

whyarewealwaysmuddy · 23/01/2021 17:20

So glad I've found this thread!
OP you have completely changed my outlook on food/dieting. I've pretty much spent the past 10 years putting on and losing the same stone and a half. I put it on gradually over a few months and then lose it really dramatically in a few weeks by basically starving myself (eating 1200 calories or sometimes less) and making myself miserable and very unpleasant to be around.
I'm going to start your way today :)
I'm also pretty active, average at about 15,000 steps a day and I am going to start couch to 5k again at some point. I did so well during the first lockdown but I'm terrible in the winter months for not running. I have an active job so build up steps really easily during the week and just need to keep it up over the weekend.
I'll post all my food at the end of the day. This thread is amazing!
Also @raspberrypickle where do you get your mini hash browns from?
And I'm about to add biscoff spread to my Asda order :)

whyarewealwaysmuddy · 23/01/2021 17:33

I always wanted to say to @Friedbanana that I love all your Christmas cups and bowls. Definitely going to get myself some nice ones for next Christmas (much to DP's disapproval)

raspberrypickle · 23/01/2021 18:00

Hi @whyarewealwaysmuddy 👋🏽 welcome!
I was the same, I've tried lots of different diets/ ways of eating but then I found this thread and something clicked, there's also definitely something really motivating about knowing you're going to be showing people photos of your food! @Friedbanana maybe you have a career ahead of you as a healthy eating influencer?! I'm sure you are owed shares in Biscoff by now!

I bought the mini hash browns in Morrison's and the hash brown waffles in Tesco - yes I have two kinds of hash browns in my freezer, they are my weakness and one of the reasons I need to lose weight! 😱

whyarewealwaysmuddy · 23/01/2021 18:17

@raspberrypickle I'm also a bit hash brown obsessed. Going to buy both of those!

It's probably obvious to most people but I was the same as you, something just clicked while reading this thread.

I'm currently 10st 5. According to my fancy scales my ideal weight is 9st 2 but I know I can't maintain that weight. I spent most of my early 20s hovering around the 9st (or under) Mark but I was barely eating. 9st 7-5 is a manageable and happy weight for me so hoping to get there but don't mind how long that takes.
