Hello & Welcome

Roughly 8 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in October I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping November will see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Morning all, I have just completed a 2 mile at home workout which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have also downloaded the Paul McKenna app, I listen to his hypnotherapy session on a night before I go to sleep. I am not sure if it works but I certainly sleep well. Right now I am trying to ignore the chocolate digestives calling from the biscuit barrel

MrsJonesAndMe · 04/11/2020 13:27

Hi all just a quick check in - will come and read properly later. 10.8kg total loss this morning - just under 24lb for those who struggle with the other measure Wink Considering what's going on, I'm happy. Lowest I got was 28lbs off.

Ignore those biscuits @Doseydots

MrsJonesAndMe · 04/11/2020 13:27

Any news @SunshineCake?

CescaNicole · 04/11/2020 15:29

Hi Everyone

Very pleased with my weigh in this morning - 5lbs loss since last week! I had to weigh 3 times to double check lol
28th Oct - 11 st 9 lb
4th Nov - 11 st 4lb

Total loss since starting on 1st Oct : 11 lbs

Planning a cheat day this coming Sunday as my OH wants a KFC with the Liverpool game haha!

Hope everyone is keeping well x

Trisolaris · 04/11/2020 15:31

Iโ€™ve apparently put on 200g today but Iโ€™m going to say itโ€™s water retention/muscle tears from exercise as I did a 5km run yesterday and havenโ€™t been overeating, well, not since Sunday anyway!

SunshineCake · 04/11/2020 15:38

Brace yourselves.

Confession time first - just ate two pieces of Oreo chocolate and a double decker. Slightly hungry. Very emotional. Not sorry. Sometimes we need love and chocolate is live right now. I rationalise it with weigh lost so far and my running.

For the last three days I have improved on my speed with my running so I am very happy.

No loss, actually up 0.4 since last Wednesday, disappointed as thought as I've just finished my period I would be less but also heartened by the fact the scales really wanted to be two instead of three and I am due a loss.

No news on DS2 bloods so hoping means okay.
DD has had a call and will have her appointment in two weeks. Up yours to the GP who wouldn't listen or help and was useless.
DS1 popped by for a visit which was lovely but so hard no to cuddle him as he didn't want to risk giving us anything. He is tier two and we are tier one.
And I got a letter off my mother. She gave me up for a man. Ruined my life and where I lived. Gods sake.

Forgive me the chocolate.

Well done on the losses, @MrsJonesAndMe and @CescaNicole and anyone I missed.

BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers · 04/11/2020 20:49

Hi everyone, checking in!

@FatGirlShrinking I remember 64kg feeling absolutely wonderful, I mostly miss the feeling of being so light on my feet, I was never dragging myself around. I once got down to 58kg and I looked awful, stick-thin arms and legs and gaunt face. That's why I'm making 64kg my very strict stopping point this time. 65 is my "hit the brakes" weight.

When this thread started I weighed 76.6kg. Weighed in this morning at 75 kg, so that's 1.6kg (3.5lbs) down for the week, I'm pleased with myself.

rivierliedje · 05/11/2020 07:38

Well done @CescaNicole!
I've decided to try a non sweet breakfast today, so instead of having porridge with jam or golden syrup or peanut butter, I'm having miso soup with kale, leek, tofu, mushrooms, pumpkin seeds and nutritional yeast. I have a massive bowl and the calories are only about 2/3 of what I usually have in porridge!
I've packed my lunch and put that in MFP already as well.

Yesterday I cycled to and from work and stopped by the sea on the way home to swim which was lovely. Lots of people swimming but all keeping their distance and it was freezing! Only about 9 degrees out.

FatGirlShrinking · 05/11/2020 08:19

Oh @rivierliedje just the thought of jumping in the sea right now makes me shiver!

I am definitely feeling the cold more this year without some of my excess padding, I've always been one of those people who goes all winter without a coat, now I'm wearing 4 layers all the time.

Down a lb overnight so now at 196 lb I'm loving every lb that drops off and gets me further away from 200 and further towards my next goal of 164 lb (healthy BMI).

Had mushrooms on toast for lunch yesterday and it was lovely, used the new Hovis everyday fibre bread which is 106 cals per slice and has 50% more fibre than regular bread, lots of mushrooms fried up with black pepper, salt and a tsp of I can't believe it's not butter (I can believe it, but it will do). So 1 slice of toast and mushrooms was 150 calories which allowed me plenty of allowance for Mac n cheese for dinner.

TheRealHousewife · 05/11/2020 09:28

Good Morning All

I couldnโ€™t post yesterday as was out for the day with friends (socially distanced in the countryside with the dogs ๐Ÿถ. Lovely it was to ๐Ÿ˜Š).

@justanotherneighinparadise I hear your frustration. For some people they weighing less often is better and that usually shows a loss (disclaimer = unfortunately not always). Men lose more swiftly as they generally have more muscle to fat ratio so they burn more energy even when not moving) BTW your graph is great! Definitely going in the right direction!

@rivierliedje if I was you Iโ€™d get checked out. Not meaning to scare you, I had dreadful periods and over a decade they got increasingly worse until I was in pain and bleeding 3 out of 4 weeks. It was endo. Sounds a great healthy breakfast with some fat & protein which will sustain you and keep blood sugars stable.

@FatGirlShrinking great BMI result! Awesome ๐Ÿ‘ Your breakfast sounds delish ๐Ÿ˜‹

@PontiacBandit I wonder too how the scales know ... total sourcery ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ.

@Doseydots ignore the calling! Unless you can regulate and only have the one with a cuppa โ˜•๏ธ, which I feel no one could do. They are wicked little creatures ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.

@MrsJonesAndMe thatโ€™s fantastic๐Ÿ‘โญ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‡. For me itโ€™s a long term lifestyle change (for the better) that will see me maintain my loss. If Iโ€™m less accurate with portions I maintain or even gain (quite quickly). Iโ€™m trying to incorporate more strength based muscle building exercise which all help to keep the metabolism ticking over nicely.

@CescaNicole you are doing so well! ๐Ÿ‘โญ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‡ Treats are important, especially when shared with family ๐Ÿ˜Š

@Trisolaris I think youโ€™re right and is connected to exercise; whatโ€™s your weekly graph looking like. If the trends downwards allโ€™s good.

@BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers great going ๐Ÿ‘ keep going ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

wraps arms around @SunshineCake. Thinking about you and sending loving vibes. The letter from mum but have been triggering. You know where I am if you need to โ€˜chatโ€™. No news if good news I hope re: DS2 bloods. Fingers crossed for DD too. How lovely to see DS1. Must have been bitter sweet to not cuddle your offspring ๐Ÿ˜ฅ You deserve a treat considering the time youโ€™ve had of it!

Iโ€™m doing date nights Friday and Saturday. Friday is usually Fake Away Movie night in front of TV and Saturday more formal on a lovely set dining table with a couple of courses and wine ๐Ÿท. Get dressed up to with make up, nice hair and clothes that make your heart sing. F* you C19 ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Wishing you all a good day in these unprecedented times.

Hi lovely new friends. I'm feeling very down hearted today and quite angry. After my great start of 3.5 lbs last week I've only lost 0.2lb this week Shock.

I could not have eaten any less. I have been beyond good- not a bit of sugar or wheat has crossed my lips and I've stick to at most 1000-1200 calories every day, sometimes as low as 800. I've resisted every piece of Halloween sugar, every offer of cake in work and the 11-7 is suiting me brilliantly (I now feel no guilt for not feeling hungry in the morning and not eating as my DH is obsessed with breakfast kick starting your metabolism).

Saying that, you made me laugh justanotherneighinparadise

Argh I honestly thought I was going to have lost today and yet Iโ€™m still the same bloody weight to the nearest decimal point!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Itโ€™s crazy how much my body is determined not to lose. Iโ€™m sticking to my diet plan dutifully. No cheating. I swear if there was a nuclear fallout it would just be me and the cockroaches left as my body is so determined to survive

So thank you. Similarly, my mate in work lost 8lbs in a week because he's a bloody man!!!!!!!!

What makes some bodies want to cling onto fat?! I have most 3 stone to lose, so it's not as if I'm a skelf (sorry, Scots dialect alert!) who just needs to lose 7lbs!

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 09:51

Almost not most

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/11/2020 10:22

Iโ€™m glad I cheered you up @Puffalicious ๐Ÿคญ. Youโ€™ll be glad to know my stupid body outdid itself this morning by putting on .5lb just to piss me off further ๐Ÿคฃ. What a twat it is.

Luckily I have a Keto blowy device that tells me I am busy burning a high amount of fat right now. So when my scales are being an arsehole, I can go and lean on an alternative device and find some optimism.

My understanding of why women lose weight slower is our hormones and our bodies assumption we could fall pregnant at any time. Then post menopause itโ€™s hormones again but also a lack of muscle. The one thing we can all do to ramp up our metabolism is build muscle. Men have much more muscle than we do naturally.

Trisolaris · 05/11/2020 10:30

@Puffalicious @justanotherneighinparadise Itโ€™s so bloody frustrating isnโ€™t it? Iโ€™ve had whole months where Iโ€™ve been so good and not lost anything (although gained muscle) but just remember that the scales do eventually go down and the ladies here are amazing at keeping you motivated and supporting when you feel like throwing the scales through the window!

My body seems to be stuck at the moment and I think itโ€™s because Iโ€™ve upped my running distance to do regular 5ks but Iโ€™m hoping that that will lead to a nice drop once it gets used to the exercise.

Drinking more (water, that is) will help too!

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 11:14

justanotherneighinparadise I'm so glad your body pisses you off and is an arsehole Grin. I am now adopting the 'my body is an arsehole' and treating it with such disdain that I shall ignore it until it gets itself into line and fits into its clothes better, then I shall perhaps be nice to it (perhaps treat it to a spendy moisturiser).

I'm peri menopause so no bloody chance of pregnancy! I'd die if I had more than 3 boys to run after. (You'd think with the amount of washing alone I do it would shift some pounds, or the stomping cold feet at the side of a rugby pitch! Gah!).

Yes, Trisolaris I'll try and drown said crappy body with loads of water, see if that helps!
Thanks, ladies, you've made a shitty morning better x

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/11/2020 11:16

Yes, Trisolaris I'll try and drown said crappy body with loads of water, see if that helps!

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 14:59

UPDATE my body obviously listened! I, ahem, needed to visit the bathroom just after I posted. I have, indeed, lost 1lb!!!! Celebrating small mercies!Grin

FatGirlShrinking · 05/11/2020 15:17

So my wardrobe now consists of 3 pairs of joggers, 3 hoodies, a handful of T-shirt's and vests, knickers, 2 sports bras and a couple of pairs of very baggy old pjs.

That's it, I've gone from a solid 22 to an 18 which is a bit loose but not quite 16.

I refuse to buy anymore so that will be it until they're all too baggy and get replaced by a smaller size. It's a bloody good thing we're in lockdown and I can't go anywhere nice Grin

Doseydots · 05/11/2020 16:11

Hi there, I never gave into the biscuits for the sole reason of coming here to tell you all - so thank you.

[fatgirlshrinking] that is an amazing loss you should be really chuffed.

I canโ€™t remember how to put usernames in bold Confused

Puffalicious · 05/11/2020 16:12

It might be annoying to have fewer clothes fatgirlshrinking but what a fabulous reason to go and buy lovely, new things once you're at your goal!

SunshineCake · 05/11/2020 16:25

@Doseydots to do bold put a then the word you want in bold then again, without spaces.

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. I talked to a friend about things and she made me think. I'm 100% I don't want to reply or any kind of contact. I wish I had a mum but not her.

Couldn't run today because of school runs and work in the house. I did 5km on the bike but I really want to get out tomorrow. I have had a biscuit, a double decker, some crisps and a square of chocolate. First time in ages I have been ridiculous but it is fine. Salad for lunch and cottage cheese plus a few olives so no wonder I was hungry. And I did walk for 2.5 hours with the dog.

FatGirlShrinking · 05/11/2020 17:41

In the very unusual position of having basically eaten like an idiot today and have lots of spare calories

B - emmi skinny latte drink 87 cals
L - pepperami - 126 cals
D - slice of pizza from Asda cafe - 346 cals

I'm not especially hungry although that may change over the next couple of hours so do I have an actual meal or eat something stupidly decadent but small like chocolate cake

Trisolaris · 05/11/2020 17:56

I just did a 6km run. Trying to mix up my runs by extending the distance on one run and then do a faster 5k the next and then am going to introduce an intervals run and then repeat each week.

Hopefully that will help the bastarding scales go down!

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/11/2020 18:12
