Hello & Welcome

Roughly 8 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in October I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping November will see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Ah great. Thanks fatgirlshrinking i thought it didn't track when i didn't complete the day.

I am back in work with no breakfast (i slept in and can't do my job on a full stomach so couldn't rush anything) and I am STAAARVING!

TheRealHousewife · 27/11/2020 09:20

Good Morning All

A warm welcome @PippinStar and congrats on your new baby ๐Ÿ‘ถ

@Breathmiller I use MFP. On my fast days of 800 I only enter what I have. It still counts as using the app daily ... Iโ€™m currently on streak 1042. What it wonโ€™t do is predict future weight loss on days under a 1000 when you click the โ€˜Complete Diaryโ€™ tab. Hope that makes sense.

Hahaha it took me so long to finish typing my reply I crossed posted with you @FatGirlShrinking, Iโ€™d put iPad down mid type.

Thanks @TheRealHousewife ๐Ÿ™‚

And @CescaNicole thatโ€™s so funny, hopefully it falls off ๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™m still in the โ€œtrapped under a sleeping babyโ€ stage so I havenโ€™t been able to exercise or move about much, although pushing a double buggy is definitely a workout!

burninglikefire · 28/11/2020 07:04

Morning everyone Smile

So, I have been trying to eat more sensibly/mindfully for a couple of days now - too soon to see any effect but it feels good to be doing something positive for myself.

Hope we all have a good weekend!

FatGirlShrinking · 28/11/2020 08:16

Hoping everyone had a lovely weekend.

My scales said 190lb this morning which has made me happy. Hard to believe they were saying 233lb only a few months ago.

We're going on a park walk again today as options are limited and we have to let DD burn off some energy.

Thinking there might be some kind of takeaway happening today or tomorrow too.

TheRealHousewife · 28/11/2020 09:34

Good Morning All

@burninglikefire Thatโ€™s great that youโ€™ve made a positive start; do you use an app to log your food? It takes the guess work out of it. I also log my food before Iโ€™ve had it so I know what Iโ€™m going to have iyswim. Planning really helps.

@FatGirlShrinking thatโ€™s great! Very motivating!

Wishing everyone a great weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

PS has anyone heard from @fallfallfall .... Hope youโ€™re ok ๐Ÿ‘

Hi everyone, and to the newbies: I'm a newbie, only 5 weeks in. 1lb off this week- 8lbs off. If I can maintain 1lb a week I'm happy. It was my birthday on Monday and I reckon the little relaxing I did (not much actually- piece of cake and quite a few crisps) will show on the scales this week, it always seems to happen that way with me! Trying to stay positive and would like another 4lbs by Xmas.

Like FSG said, I've now got over my craving for sugar and carbs (I do still.eat sweet potatoes and a weekend treat of seeded, wholemeal bread), just the salt cravings to work on- crisp cupboard, I'm looking at you!

FatGirlShrinking · 28/11/2020 10:13

@Puffalicious I love salty foods too, I've switched to peanuts and really enjoy the KP salt and vinegar ones. Obviously high in calories but they have protein too so end up feeling more satisfied with a 30g serving of them than with a bag of crisps.

Puffalicious · 28/11/2020 12:23

I love all kinds of nuts- pistachios and macadamias being my absolute favourites. I have resisted so far because I'll end up eating the entire, large jar! (I need to buy big amounts and pop into jars as I have 3 DS and DH who are all very sporty and eat them til they're going out of fashion!!!).

I shall look into smaller bags of nuts and squirrel them away (see what I did there?Grin) just for me.

FatGirlShrinking · 28/11/2020 17:40

Well according to MFP my Chinese takeaway will basically be a whole days calories so I will need to do some serious exercise tomorrow to make up for it!

Very much looking forward to the gym re-opening next week.

fallfallfall · 28/11/2020 23:59

i'm alive. hardware removed from the left ankle.
need a repeat breast ultrasound and sense i'm sulking.
cold weather and dh seriously craving comforting carbs...
it's been 10 days since the little day surgery and was hoping to do my first leslie walk video.

TheRealHousewife · 29/11/2020 14:11

Good Afternoon All

Hi @fallfallfall lovely to โ€˜seeโ€™ you. Thatโ€™s a step in the right direction! Hopefully youโ€™ll be back to exercise in no time. I totally empathise about carbs ... they definitely call when our soul needs nourishing. Sending love.

@Puffalicious 4lbs by Christmas is a sensible and doable mini goal๐Ÿ‘

@FatGirlShrinking. We all needs treats sometimes and if your weekly limit accommodates it why not ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Youโ€™ve come so far!

Today was home made spicy cauliflower & lentil soup. Steak, green beans and pepper sauce later.

Have fun!

Can I join? I've steadily piled it on since this time last year and now need to lose a stone and a half. I refuse to buy a load of new clothes but feel like a complete lard arse. I'm 5'4, maybe 5'5 and have gone up to 11st 8lbs. I feel best when I'm below 10 stone, but with a knackered thyroid and perimenopause kicking in I feel like I literally have to starve myself to lose any weight. Doesn't help that I dislike exercise other than walking... Low carb usually works for me. My DP 8s thin as a rake and scuffs crisps every night Angry

JayJay336 · 29/11/2020 20:07

STUFFS crisps. God, even my fingers have got too fat to hit the right keys

FatGirlShrinking · 30/11/2020 10:09

Ahhh my very sporadic (due to implant) period has decided to make an appearance.

I will still weigh in and follow the diet but expecting random results this week.

CescaNicole · 30/11/2020 14:11

Finishing the month at 11st 0lb, a 9lb loss for November and 1 st 1 lb loss since I started at beginning of October.

I have also lost another inch from my waist this month and a half inch on arms and hips!

Very pleased with my progress and have to say thankyou to you guys for keeping me motivated!!

Galvantula · 30/11/2020 14:13

Hi all.

Feeling the guilt at my lack of contribution and keeping up with the thread ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Hope you don't mind my flying check-ins!

The A DHD medication is still really helping with my overall level of coping and also with my general mood/mental health. :) So I'm still keeping my snacking and comfort eating much more under control, so much so that I'm really close to the goal I set about 5 years ago when I was at 77.1kg (170lb/12 st 2).

I put in 56kg (124lb/8st 12) as it was a nice round number just above the 'ideal' weight range for my height. Even though I hadn't been that weight since I was about 17 ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

I lost most of the weight the year after DC3 was born but have lost and gained the same 4ish kilos for the last 4 years. ๐Ÿคฆ This thread has really been great at keeping me going and not just giving up. :)

This week I have been consistently at 56.9kg (125.5lb/8st 13) which feels amazing and is better than I've ever done since starting using MFP in 2014.

So thank you again to @TheRealHousewife for the thread and to everyone for all your good ideas and motivation. Despite it being a shit year, at least I'm ending up feeling much healthier.

I'll need to set myself a checking in reminder though. Blush

Hi, can I join is there likely to be a December thread that Iโ€™d be better to join?

Hi everyone

Still thinking about you @Foreverlexicon and hope you are okay.

Welcome to Baby @PippinStar ๐Ÿ‘ถ

@burninglikefire I think half the battle with losing weight is in your mind.

Well done @Puffalicious. How are your salt craving banishment going?

I don't blame you for sulking @fallfallfall. Hope your test goes okay and you are soon able to exercise.

Welcome @JayJay336. We'll see you on the December thread and you are in the right place.

I'll watch out for mine now @FatGirlShrinking as mine is a week late.

Great achievement @CescaNicole!

We will let you off @Galvantula as long as you don't forget us.

I decided to weigh this morning so I could see how I start the week and I was sure I was 11 stone 3. I nearly had a bit of a moment when I realised I had put on ten pounds from only missing one run on Friday. I don't run at weekends. I then realised it said 10 stone 13lbs Shock. My goal was to be ten stone something by the end of the year as I had no confidence I could do it and then when I was suddenly 11 stone 1.2 I thought maybe it was doable for November. And I did it!

May 1st - 12 stone 9
Today - 10 stone 13lbs.

I am very happy Grin. Thank you all for sticking with me and all your support, encouragement and friendship. It means more than you know and I still get ridiculously excited when I get a name check Blush.

fallfallfall · 30/11/2020 18:46

well done @SunshineCake!
my hesitancy on all fronts is mental. not physical for the most part. i've done 2 days of an easy 1 mile fitness walk. today i'll do it again with hand weights. but the movement, does cause the incision line to crack a bit and although it doesn't hurt it may interfere with healing.
the breast issue won't be investigated again until April so i need to not dwell on it (overly) and not use it as an excuse to eat and be sedentary.

CescaNicole · 30/11/2020 19:04

Woohoo well done @SunshineCake ๐Ÿ˜

SunshineCake · 30/11/2020 19:28

Thank you to you both. I'm very proud.

I hope you are able to get moving @fallfallfall. Let us know when you go for your test so we can support you.
